The memorial for Charlie Kirk, live.

It has been an amazing service. A great tribute to Charlie Kirk. The left has no idea what they have done.

Achilles said...

There will be a narrative from the left coming out of this that Kirk wanted dialogue and that Trump supporters should commit to being peaceful and accepting leftist hate and violence because that is what Charlie would have wanted.

It isn't gonna fly. You killed the guy that wanted to talk to you. We see you shitheads for who you are.

The left is going to have to accept that they will have to live with people who disagree with them.

If they cannot accept that they are going to leave.

And it is time to make the penalty for flag burning exile. If you don't like the country get the fuck out.

People were saying this when they were lawfaring Trump.

Heck, even with Floyd (scih), it took four years to mostly counteract the results. CC, JSM

Lots of people there. I didn't see any burning buildings though.

Kirk had a significant impact on young people. He engaged in person without preaching, and allowed the left to expose their worst dogma and then calmly refuted it. Those under thirty had never seen that, and probably thought it couldn’t be done.

They had an attachment and affinity for him. Seeing him murdered in cold blood and then watching swaths of the left celebrate his death is not something they’ll soon, if ever, forget.

Are they openly baptizing new followers? It would be a shame to miss out on all the people opening their hearts to Jesus Christ today and accepting him as their Lord and Savior. God is indeed working miracles through Charlie Kirk. Imagine the changes in government that are coming with Christ's message now firmly embedded in human hearts!

Another Leftist Shooter Attacks Country Club Wedding In New Hampshire

"Tom Bartelson of Pepperell, Massachusetts, told reporters that he was at Sky Meadow Country Club for his nephew’s wedding when he heard the individual say, "The children are safe," and, "Free Palestine." The slogan is commonly chanted at left wing rallies and protests, an attempt to absorb Islamic fundamentalist movements under the woke intersectional umbrella."

Was there a single riot because of Charlie Kirk’s murder?
Was a single store looted because of Charlie Kirk’s murder?
Was a single building burned or occupied because of Charlie Kirk’s murder?
Did a single leader call for violence after Charlie Kirk’s murder?

We are not like you. Most of us want nothing more than to be left alone. Don’t force your beliefs on us. Don’t start nothing and there won’t be nothing. In short, don’t push us because future performance is not guaranteed by past results. Personally, I’m not a “turn the other cheek” kind of guy.

jim5301: " I bet Charlie would be appalled by miller’s unhinged rant."

What specifically is unhinged about it? Stylistically, it is a bit of a rant. But hey, the guy is mourning his friend. Probably a choice of shout or weep. Substantively, Miller said things Charlie (z''l) said and believes. Basically that this country is built on the things Kirk (rip) preached. And Miller finished up with "God Bless America!" Is that the unhinged part?

Also, very important to have a Jewish person give a speech so that this thing isn't seen as just for Christians. And to communicate that neither Charlie (pbuh) nor his friends want to suppress any other religions, but rather rely on the vast commonalities among them all. CC, JSM

All 100K people were uneasy at that, even though they understood what he meant. CC, JSM

"then watching swaths of the left celebrate his death is not something they’ll soon, if ever, forget."

That is the real transformative experience for young folks. I'm not talking about any notable figures on the left, but just ordinary leftists on social media being absolutely gleeful, mocking, and celebratory about a horrible murder of a man in front of his wife and kids. One of the bigger emotional reasons folks are on the left is to indulge a moral inferiority complex. By assuming the absolute worst about the right regarding their motivations and the outcomes of their policies it lets many on the left feel like they are the good guys simply by being on the left. For many, this emotion is going to be impossible for them to hold after seeing how far too many on the Left reacted to this heinous murder. Many are going to be forever alienated and disillusioned from the Left.

I've lost much of my anger toward the people who hate me and my political friends, and our leaders. I know he would never let hate like that into his heart, and he would forgive and pray for people who hate us. He would tell me to let it go, and he would tell me to love them and try to help them, and to hang on to them. I have friends who are probably celebrating Kirk's death, although I will avoid finding out if possible. I imagined telling them we can no longer be friends if they showed that to me. I no longer want to do that, and Charley is the reason. What a gift from a compete stranger. His impact is far from small or temporary.

Yes, yes it does. Because it's based on Christian ideas. Ideas like every soul is worth the same, so every vote is worth the same, every dollar is worth the same, every idea is to be interrogated with equal rigor, etc. And Western Christians are willing to die in its defense because they know they will be resurrected. Unlike postmodern atheist lefties, who have only this world to think about and will back off if they look like losing, especially when there's no KGB troops with PpSh's behind them. CC, JSM

Interested? Emmanuel Levinas, in _Outside the Subject_, the short chapter "The Rights of Man and the Rights of the Other"

The civil system starts with watching out for the rights of the other guy, not as a contest of wills. That's how rights wound up as moral. They define you when you grant them or fail to. (what defines you is moral.)

Obligation to the other guy.

It's not pragmatism, it's phenomenology. The moral system starts with an obligation to the other. No other beginning. Religion, if it's any good, will say the same, which makes the religion attractive because it "seems right." The religion is secondary. Decent prose is a plus.

So what's the point? I don't care how people get there, but some really do, especially the ones who pretend to be above it all.

I've spent many posts arguing that Judaism is more Christian that Christianity. In particular Sanhedrin 98b-99a which can be interpreted by an ethics-biased interpreter as every man is the Messiah. Takes on the suffering of the world, etc. The moral fact.

See Levinas _Difficult Freedom: Essays of Judaism_

google lead AI says, which I quote because domestic Talmud interpreters become very angry but they're from a different power structure:

Emmanuel Levinas's approach to Torah and Talmud analysis was taught by the enigmatic Jewish scholar known as
Monsieur Chouchani. Levinas studied with Chouchani in Paris between 1947 and 1951, receiving intensive nightly lessons in the Talmud.
Key aspects of Chouchani's influence on Levinas include:

A unique interpretive method: Chouchani's way of approaching the Talmud left an "indelible mark" on Levinas. It emphasized ancient rabbinic traditions of interpretation over modern historical-critical methods.
Holistic textual understanding: The "Chouchani style," adopted by Levinas, involves interpreting a text not just by its individual words, but by the entire context of the surrounding citation. This approach created a dialectical methodology for "widening" the scope of the Talmud.
Simultaneously traditional and radical: The hermeneutical approach passed down to Levinas from Chouchani is described as being both deeply traditional and radically creative, using ancient rabbinic sources to reinterpret meaning.
Ethical focus: While Chouchani left no written works, some scholars view him as a great, if unconventional, teacher of ethics who influenced Levinas's focus on the ethical implications of Jewish thought.

The most important thing that happened today was that the entire leadership of the U.S. government and the conservative movement came to this memorial and said just what they wanted to say and no one was able to stop them.
The deep purpose--and most powerful effect--of left-wing violence and near-violence is to prevent people from speaking out in order to manipulate public opinion. Practices and ideologies that are actually very unpopular can be maintained for a long time if no one is permitted to speak against them and the regime's communications apparatus constructs as fake information environment.
But once people are free to speak freely, preference cascades wipe out the unpopular regime.
Whatever the specific motives of the grotesque loser who shot Kirk, the motives of those supporting, encouraging, and cheering for his crime wanted to silence people through fear.
It didn't work, and that is bigger (and more encouraging) news that anything else said.
(It's sad, though, I couldn't bring myself to post this until the event was safely over in order not to jinx things. And we had the deranged thread-jack to provide entertainment...)
