"A focus on saving democracy and protecting institutions might be more conducive to those who already believe in the system — an audience that overlaps significantly with their college-educated, liberal base. But a personal appeal — making the case that taxpayers’ personal information, money, and benefits are at risk — could attract less tuned-in, less educated, or less partisan Americans. It’s a fork in the road for Democrats, and they need to make a choice soon. For the last month, the Democrats’ resistance has appeared sporadic, slow, and splintered, enraging the party base.... A focus on Trump’s threats to democracy and anti-establishment tendencies does not appear to have been successful.... [P]erhaps Democrats will be more inclined toward a new strategy: an individualistic, populist appeal...."

If those are the two choices Democrats are doomed. Frankly I’m surprised some Deep State stooge hasn’t sabotaged Treasury payments to ordinary Americans and claimed it’s Elon Musk’s fault.
The democrats are fucked. They look like idiots complaining about Trump and Musk. The I didn’t vote for Musk comments are lame and meaningless. They are arguing for the continuation of wasteful spending and fraud, not a winning line for independent voters.
What should Democrats do? Humble themselves and repent. (Same thing Republicans should do.)
Notice that the stated goal is to "take down Trump", not "be better at governing than Trump".
There's your problem right there....
I humbly suggest a third option.
“We got nuthin’.”
"A focus on Trump’s threats to democracy..."
What democracy is that? The one where a majority of voters chose Trump?
As Sen. Zell Miller D-GA said years ago...
The Democrats’ “Big Tent” has shrunk to the size of a dunce cap.
"If those are the two choices Democrats are doomed. Frankly I’m surprised some Deep State stooge hasn’t sabotaged Treasury payments to ordinary Americans and claimed it’s Elon Musk’s fault."
Why? If we wait long enough, Musk will sabotage Treasury payments to Americans himself. And he'll boast about it!
The Vox crowd is loath to admit that attacking Elon Musk as a meddling billionaire is a lot harder than doing the same with George Soros. Tony Stark 2.0?
"Notice that the stated goal is to "take down Trump", not "be better at governing than Trump".....
Yes - nor is it: Support your duly elected President and work to better government for the American people. Noted. The Democratic Party is a Death Cult.

I remain in awe of Cookie’s prescience.
"The democrats are fucked."
We're all fucked.
"What democracy is that? The one where a majority of voters chose Trump?"
Well, yes...although, the votes for the two candidates were so close--only a 1.5% differential--it's only nominally accurate to say a majority of voters chose Trump." There was no landslide, no "sweeping" victory. It was a squeaker.
A highly inculcated, divergent base? Is stuck in the muck of Diversity (i.e. color judgment, class bigotry), an equivocal, incompetent umbrella philosophy for class-disordered ideologies. Lose your religion.
They would have better luck with bringing up futile attempts at reparations deals, and investigating cases of Felony aggravated ejaculation.

Didn't Rush Limbaugh say he hoped Barack Obama failed, because he thought Barack Obama was going to try to usher in socialism and he wanted him to fail at that?
Dems should get their own Trump.
They could have had Kennedy.
They could have had Tulsi Gabbard.
The Dems need someone with a sense of humor. Obama and Clinton were kinda funny but not much. JFK was very funny. Humor disarms most people. Trump and Elon are funny.
The worse thing anybody could do is take advice from Vox.
well,
the Democrats ALREADY tried Impeaching Trump.. twice
the Democrats ALREADY tried Arresting Trump.. more than twice
the Democrats ALREADY tried assassinating Trump.. twice
They ARE running out of options
Dems are defining themselves not by who they are, but who they're not.

Sweetie, You're forgetting that Trump won a majority, not a plurality. And he did so because voters in every demographic moved toward him. Over the past 8 years there has been a steady drift toward the Republicans and toward Trump despite the left controlling the news, the universities and Hollywood. When voters have overcome that steep tilt they are set on continuing the climb. They can't be moved by hysterical messaging from the usual suspects. That's the Dem problem. And the only solution is to try to reform the Biggies - Big Gov, Big Pharma, Big Data and, yes, Big Lies. But these entities exist the way they do because of the Democratic party. And if AOC was in power Big Gov would be even bigger. So there's no reform toward the left. Now there's a huge group of independents and Dems should, of course, reform in that direction. But Trump has two of the more attractive possible leaders of Dem Reform, namely RFK Jr. and Tulsu Gabbard, working to achieve his reforms. And the Republican Never Trumpers are contaminated by their association with the leftys. So without leadership or policies, the Dems will wander in the wilderness. Conferring with lawyers; telling a nation of voters to do what local, unelected judges tell them to do; crying, blaspheming, and shouting ugly threats; in general trying to craft a political comeback with "Amerika Sucks" as a slogan - well, well, I shouldn't criticize. It's all good. Yes, I think it is. Go for it.
Ann has become Aguirre at the end of the movie.
How exactly are ANY of the following actions by Trump, "dangerous" or a "threat to democracy"?
* Deporting criminal aliens, including murderers and rapists, who are here illegally
* Returning control of our borders
* Uncovering and stopping blatant payment fraud in all our agencies
* Freeing our hostages
* Complying with judicial orders, unlike the previous President's ignoring orders regarding student debt
Contrary to the wild assertions, Trump has been respectful and compliant. Nobody is listening to the lunatics and their flailing attempts to portray Trump as some kind of dangerous threat to democracy.
So. Gonna run on a platform of stopping all efforts to eliminate fraud, waste, and abuse.
"saving democracy" By asking unelected lefty judges to stifle the democratically elected president.
You'd think people who are in favor of big, strong, effective government would like tough audits, cutting fat, efficiency--but no. #Resistance is the tell.
It was a squeaker.
If handily sweeping all seven swing states constitutes a squeaker, I'll take it.
Based on figures from the IRS, if you divide the revenue collected by the income tax by the numbers of filings, it comes out to about $14,280 each, which is $1190 a month. The means it takes an average of a little over 70,000 tax filers to raise a billion dollars of revenue.
Take a look at the magnitude of graft, fraud, waste, and abuse that’s being revealed. For every billion dollars, the Democrats are basically telling 70,000 tax filers that “You didn’t need that money. We deserve that money and even more. So shut up, pay your taxes, peasant.”
I don’t think that’s going to be a winning message, but hey, you be you.
"(a) personal appeal — making the case that taxpayers’ personal information, money, and benefits are at risk — could attract less tuned-in, less educated, or less partisan Americans."
What leads them to think they can make that case? They sound like they'd luuuuv for that to happen, but wishing don't make it so. As our Leftist friends like to say, this is "an assertion made without evidence".
"Well, yes...although, the votes for the two candidates were so close--only a 1.5% differential--it's only nominally accurate to say a majority of voters chose Trump."
Like I said- a majority.
"There was no landslide, no "sweeping" victory. It was a squeaker."
I didn't mention anything about "landslide", "sweeping", or "squeaker". Just sayin'.
"Trump and Elon are funny."
The Democrats will be the first to say "That's not funny!"
One approach that we know Democrat Party members will never choose is an honest assessment of government spending and an emphasis on domestic needs and tranquility, because they are sneaking thieves and anti-American terrorists.
"JFK was very funny." Huh. I've never encountered a clip or anecdote of Kennedy being clever, funny, or amusing. I have listened to phone calls he made reaming out staff for being honest with the press, and for not covering up his shady behavior towards military appropriations. I have read the memoirs of the White House custodian under the administrations of Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon. Kennedy was the only president that was described in unflattering terms, very unflattering. Honestly wondering what I'm missing, because all I've ever seen is proof that he was an arrogant bully and a real sneaky asshole.

True but they don't want a normal human. They want Biden and empty shell of a man so the "Experts" can run things.
Or Kamala and vapid woman unable to string togeather 20 minutes of answers to questions that haven't been given to her ahead of time.
Tulsi has a mind and opinions that don't fit with the current brand of crazy that the Democrat party leadership and donors want.
"True but they don't want a normal human. They want Biden and empty shell of a man so the "Experts" can run things."
Exactly. That's why they don't want Trump's political appointees looking at the country's finances. Much better to leave that stuff to the experts- you know, the guys who spend billions of dollars without tracking where the money is going. Very professional.
Well Team Trump put the skeer on the Dimocrats, and as long as they weep and wail and thrash around the skeer is going to stay on. These Dim types need to take a deep breath, and STFU for about six months. After they've gathered their breath they may (and I emphasize "may") be able to come back with a better strategy. But right now the voters are eating Trump and his Team up like a bowl of vanilla ice cream, and it's dumb to try to interrupt that. Trump will no doubt stumble over something--maybe his own feet-in the next six months and the Dims can attack that. Right now they are just flailing.

here was an interesting overlay, due to "chronological order"..

Democrats are sad. They are fake and fraudulent.
and they lie.
Nothing in their mass-delusion and ever-arrogance is geared towards Americans. Zero self-awareness - zero authenticity.
Obsessive Trump-Hate is all they have. If not Trump - then they move to the next target like hypnotized hive-cultists.
Awesome perfect democrats are the smart, educated... & whatever shall dems do to keep everyone divided, angry, and gas-lit?

Kurt Schlichter sez:
"The deep state has a lot less power when you stop giving it the benefit of the doubt that it’s acting in good faith and understand that it’s just a bunch of grubby little political hacks exploiting the system."
Yes - and the grubby hacks scream non-stop about
"saving democracy!" Democracy that serves their personal profits... using our tax dollars.
Frankly I’m surprised some Deep State stooge hasn’t sabotaged Treasury payments to ordinary Americans and claimed it’s Elon Musk’s fault.
I think DOGE is literally waiting for that to happen and if it does that person gets frog-marched out of the building.

Not sure who those "custodians" were...people who ran the facilities in the WH?....., but the larger press have described virtually ALL presidents in unflattering terms.
FDR for being a snooty aristocrat.
Truman for being just the opposite---a country boy
LBJ for dictating to his aides whille sitting the crapper
NIxon for duplicitousness and criminality
Ford for being an unathletic doofus (though he was a college football star on championship teams, and turned down offers from two pro teams)
First Bush for being too much a government insider, and his father for supposedldy being a closet Nazi
Clinton for.....well, we all know about those claims
Second Bush for being a "dry drunk"
Maybe you should move up from skimming through the Cliff's Notes biographies...

Yes! You can easily see your size....it's M for...Microcephalic.
I think I remember a paperback book back in 72 or 73 entitled "The Robert F. Kennedy Wit". JFK was also witty: "The Kennedy Wit: The Humor and Wisdom of John F. Kennedy". I read the former, but not the latter (which is available on Amazon). I am also witty (no false humility here) and I have often explained to people the difference between being smart and being witty: "You can pretend to be smart, but you cannot pretend to be witty."
... I’m surprised some Deep State stooge hasn’t sabotaged Treasury payments to ordinary Americans and claimed it’s Elon Musk’s fault.
My only income is the monthly Social Security credit and this thought occurred to me about a day after the front pages began to fill up with DOGE nonsense. Eh; I gambled, many decades ago, and if I'm currently ahead, well, well, we'll see in another ten or twenty years.
"Not sure who those "custodians" were...people who ran the facilities in the WH?"
The link to the book is right in the comment. J.B. West, chief usher of the White House.

Maybe you should read the comments before you shit out of your mouth and not repeat tired tropes out of ignorance, shithead.
"college-educated, liberal base. But a personal appeal [to] ... less educated..." Educated does not equal intelligence. Especially today when educated means nothing more than having a potentially useless bachelors that required little knowledge acquisition nor critical thinking development. How far off are we from the intelligent using "educated" as an insult? 2-3 years? The beauty is that the educated idiots won't pick up on it.

312 vs 226 is much more than a 1.5% differential.
“it's only nominally accurate to say a majority of voters chose Trump.”
Is “nominally accurate” the new “a little bit pregnant”?
The Dems could propose to their Republican fellow legislators an actual "budget" or a specific bill or bills which specifically identify the supposedly vital spending items which Trump and Musk are cutting, and stating that Congress does indeed want to spend that money for that particular purpose. If the Republicans agree (or the Dems win a majority in the next election) then those spending items become law.
That is how it is supposed to work.
Do the Democrats think that the voting public supports these things, now that the nature and extent of the graft and incompetence is being revealed?
The Dems problem is accountability.
