"We have no coherent message. This guy is psychotic, and there’s so much, but everything that underlines it is white supremacy and hate."

"There needs to be a message that is clear on at least the underlying thing that comes with all of this."

Said Representative Jasmine Crockett, Democrat of Texas, quoted in "'We Have No Coherent Message': Democrats Struggle to Oppose Trump/More than 50 interviews with Democratic leaders revealed a party struggling to decide what it believes in, what issues to prioritize and how to confront an aggressive right-wing administration" (NYT).

It was crafty of Trump to cause incoherence by seeming "psychotic." Or... it was inept of Democrats to allow their idea that Trump is mentally disordered to justify their own mental disorder. Crockett seems to think that coherence can be restored by simply and forthrightly centering the message on the other side's "white supremacy and hate."

The article also reports on the race — the "tepid race" — for chair of the Democratic National Committee, which, we're told, lacked "a broad party message" (other than hating Trump): "The eventual winner, [Ken] Martin, offered a diagnosis that was all about how the party communicated, rather than what it was saying."

Also: "The lack of public outcry [after Trump's 2024 victory] has left Democrats debating whether liberals are simply tired of politics or whether they agree with more of Mr. Trump’s platform than they want to admit...."

The campaign to denormalize, deplatform, and ultimately to impoverish and imprison, one's political adversary has a flaw. If it fails, you have exposed your lack of credibility.
So now when Crockett pulls out the big rhetorical a-bomb of white supremacy and hate, the reaction is ho-hum.

Crockett's focus on white supremacy is absolute poison to a country (not to mention total BS). This is a continuation of the Obama/Biden division that has so hurt this country.

A problem for the Dems is that they aren't allowed to prioritize. They can't rank any item on their agenda as more important than any other. There can be no compromise packages that accept partial victories on some issues and put off others for another day.

She's got the South Dallas district, which is a strongly-black demographic, which helps keep her in office with Democrat Machine votes. And it covers a lot of downtown, which means she'll get plenty of corporate donors - provided they are happy to watch the rest of the city movers jump on the Red Wagon, which more of them are doing. I haven't looked at the results of the recent election, but she strikes me as a slightly more intelligent version of Houston's Sheila Jackson Lee, who was successful at playing this scheme for a long time, even though she was often wacky.

"White Supremacy and Hate." Just say it three times as you click your heels, and you're back in 2012 Obama-land. "Gee, Auntie Em, you mean Trump and Biden were all just a dream?"

The first thing they need to agree on is to stop digging. Stop the blaming and unite around a message beyond Trump. Race bating and psychoanalyzing the voters was (unsurprisingly) soundly rejected by the voters. To continue to parrot that, after Trump can no longer run again, will be interpreted as a continuation of unrestrained competent for the voters they desperately need to win, if they want to be in the majority again.

The left sees language as a weapon. They use it to conceal their true values, and enact policies that are clearly anti American.
Like other totalitarians, their message is cover for control, and eventually people realize they are being lied to.
It's good they decided to go all in on a failed strategy. The MSM seems to agree, which is even better.
The DNC decided promoting mental illness, hatred, and bigotry is the way to go forward.

Larry J said...

Oh, they have a message. It comes through loud and clear. “Hey, peasants! You’re too stupid to make your own decisions. Turn over all control to us, the superior people! We have Ivy League degrees. What do you peasants have?”

The voters heard their message and rejected it. That wii not do.

The Dems won't be fixed until they go back to 2015 and purge all the people in their own party who promoted Trump as dirty trick. They can't move forward as long as their internal manipulators are still in charge.

The Democrats appeal to women is abortion. And that has reached the limit of its appeal. Especially against Trump, who isn't a hardcore pro-lifer.

that was all about how the party communicated

Electing David Hogg as vice chair sends a clear message, there is no trouble decoding that.

Good grief. The Democrat is controlled by the Left and believes in certain things. As do the various interest and ethnic groups that vote Democrat. They're not changing what they believe or want, they're just arguing over messaging.

The Left constantly argues over tactics. Do we go slow, or go push the pedal to the medal. Do we throw the white working class a few crumbs and ease up on hating them, or do go full bore Left. The Goal never changes.

After 9 years of Trump hate, they've found it doesn't really work and they're exhusted. So, they'll ease up. But its just temporary.

@Meade, does Trump seem psychotic to you? Me either.

Or... it was inept of Democrats to allow their idea that Trump is mentally disordered to justify their own mental disorder. [sic]

@Althouse, you and I are old enough to remember when Republicans were mocked of “trying to fly with only a right wing.” In 2024 the Democrats tried to fly with only the extreme tip of a left wing.

Crockett seems to think that coherence can be restored by simply and forthrightly centering the message on the other side's "white supremacy and hate.”

Calling them “white supremacists” is certain to bring back the black and Hispanic voters who defected to Donald Trump three months ago.

Also: "The lack of public outcry [after Trump's 2024 victory] has left Democrats debating whether liberals are simply tired of politics or whether they agree with more of Mr. Trump’s platform than they want to admit...."

Once upon a time the losers in an election would say “The voters have spoken — damn them.” Then they’d start thinking about how to do better in the next election. Now Crockett thinks they should instead engage in public temper tantrums and maybe a little rioting. Yeah, that’ll work.

tcrosse said...

The Dems are busy defining themselves with relation to Trump. Whatever he's for, they're against. But it's as foolish to believe that Trump is always wrong as it is to believe that he's always right. This leads them to believe whatever is the opposite of Trump, no matter how ludicrous. Rather than argue any of these beliefs on the merits, they can only respond with insults, billingsgate, and invective.

It's hard to see what segments of the populace actually stand to benefit under democrats' policies. As I see, it's basically just government workers, trannies, and minorities who could get a job through or because of DEI that they couldn't get without it. The dems' appeal to other constituencies mainly depends on tribalism, i.e., maintaining the fable that dems are the good guys and Trump and republicans are the bad guys. To turn their fortunes around, dems need to come up with some material, real-life ways in which they can actually improve people's lives.

This racist bimbo is the one who is psychotic. Having said that, the Democrats, leftmediaswine and other Gramscian Marxists do have a coherent, if vile, message. The message is the same as during his first term: Trump and his deplorables are bad, therefore we can shamelessly go about destabilizing the nation to achieve our Marxist agenda.

Whenever we mistakenly think they are stupid, we discount the fact that they are evil.

Posted elsewhere, not by me:

"The critics of the civil service system call these people goo-goos: "good government." The goo-goos have always defined good government as rule by their class: formally educated, certified, professional, and above the political fray. They want rents. This is the classic case in American history of rent-seeking. These people want jobs for life. They want a guaranteed income. They want promotions based on seniority. They want the taxpayers to fund their lifestyles and their activities, but they do not want taxpayers to have any say with respect to how the government is run."

That is what he has to say at a DNC meeting. If he's smart, he's already working to bring the big money folk back into the Democratic tent and reassuring them that the zanies will be kept in line this time.

"The lack of public outcry [after Trump's 2024 victory] has left Democrats debating whether liberals are simply tired of politics or whether they agree with more of Mr. Trump’s platform than they want to admit...."

The activists are stunned by the defeat. They're not tired of politics, but they don't know what to do next. Many rank and file Democrats do prefer Trump's program to Biden's. It's not totally different from what Democrats wanted in the Eighties and Nineties.

Part of it has gotta be the fact that a narcissistic, 50IQ nobody like Crockett is considered a "leader".

If the Democrats are serious about becoming relevant again, they need to examine what Trump is doing and figure out that about half of his policies are relatively similar to what most people in this country want including Democrats. Based on those areas of mutual interest, the Democrats should work hard to support that part of his agenda.

Trump thrives on conflict and the vitriolic hatred directed at him. I know it sounds counterintuitive but if the Democrats work with Trump they will actually make themselves stronger and more successful.
