My gut says Trump is unlikely to court challenge the broader Biden pardon theory, should he later on be in a position to benefit from it. Trump is not unpredictable.
He'd be stupid if he did. Biden just set a new and disgustingly base precedent, and this is Trump's last term. They create new rules, but they're not going to like them.
The biggest problem I have with preemptive pardons, Fauci getting away with mass murder (possibly) granted we don’t have the documents, nobody under oath. That’s what a trial would have discovered.
It seems wrong to circumvent accountability that way. An incredible abuse of power.

He can still be subpoenaed to testify in an investigation if they wanted to hold one. Also, because he's been pardoned he can't plead the 5th Amendment and if his testimony is found to be fraudulent he can be charged with perjury. So there's still a few tricks up Pam Bondi's sleeve.

If a president can pardon preemptively, then presidencial immunity is truly legally near omnipotent. And if I remember correctly, the supremes may have hinted that is not the case, by sending it back to the lower court to mull it over and write it up.
Let’s try it again. Self preemptive pardon and limited presidential immunity are in a collision course… or something.

Biden doesn't have a pardon. Force those who do have pardons, like those shiitte family members, give testimony about Old Joe. They can no longer claim the 5th Amendment.
Why wouldn't every president not simply preemptively pardon himself, his cabinet, his aides and his lawyers, at he beginning of his term? Also his family members.
Clearly, now that the "norms" no longer apply, the pardon power needs to be defined.

Would be poetic justice if Fauci was extradited to Russia, or China, to be prosecuted for his crimes against humanity - first misconduct during AIDs epidemic and implementation of inappropriate and deadly medications (and denial of appropriate medical/drug protocols), then misconduct during Covid epidemic and implementation of inappropriate and deadly medications (and denial effective medical/drug protocols), plus outcomes of biowarfare weaponization research sponsored by NIH, all under his specific direction.

This would be a terrible outcome for Biden, because even a DC judge wouldn't be able to accept hyper fast onset dementia without risking a SCOTUS challenge. At that point all of his pardons would be under scrutiny, along with quite a few of his laws.
The Clintons avoided this by having spineless opponents and relatively mediocre grasp of the legal system. Biden doesn't even have that.
