"Biden pardons Anthony Fauci, Mark Milley and the Jan. 6 committee in an extraordinary use of presidential power against potential Trump 'revenge.'"

AP reports.
“The issuance of these pardons should not be mistaken as an acknowledgment that any individual engaged in any wrongdoing, nor should acceptance be misconstrued as an admission of guilt for any offense,” Biden said in a statement. “Our nation owes these public servants a debt of gratitude for their tireless commitment to our country.”

It’s customary for a president to grant clemency at the end of his term, but those acts of mercy are usually offered to everyday Americans who have been convicted of crimes. But Biden has used the power in the broadest and most untested way possible: to pardon those who have not even been investigated yet....

Among the pardoned is Liz Cheney.

ADDED: Here's Biden's statement.

The Cheney name is now officially Mud.

Temujin said...

Weird to be granting pardons to people not charged with anything yet. Sure seems like a declaration that an upcoming investigation might find some things that reach the level of criminal activity. And...just in case...

There is literally no other reason to do this.

Dave Begley said...

So, they have to accept the pardon? Never heard of that. I urge Fauci, Cheney and Milley to reject the pardons and do it in writing.

Captain BillieBob said...

Obviously they are all guilty of something. The innocent don't need to be pardoned.

Leland said...

Now there is no reason not to have a full and open investigation with everyone on the record.

Great. No 5th amendment protection in hearings, and perjury charges available.

And forced to testify under oath, without Fifth Amendment protections. They will not be immune to prosecution for future perjury.

There’s that whole thing of no 5th Am privilege, too. It clears the runway to investigate and publicly expose for those amongst us that still choose to deny…

Has Biden preemptively pardoned Eric Ciaramella and the Vindmans yet? Cassidy Hutchinson?

Enigma said...

This isn't going to end for a decade or two. Civil lawsuits. The ambulance chasers will be getting busy today. Someone may consider a RICO suit against a much broader group of conspirators too.

mindnumbrobot said...

Maybe I missed it somewhere along the way, but is this even legal? How do you grant a pardon with no criminal conviction? Was this discussed among "legal experts" when Hunter Biden's blanket pardon was granted?

Whiskeybum said...

Corrected headline: "Biden pardons Anthony Fauci, Mark Milley, and the Jan. 6th committee in an extraordinary abuse of presidential power against potential US justice.

Enigma said...

And how does that differ from their reputation years ago? Dick Cheney's name was mud among Democrats way back during the GW bush administration. Liz cemented her reputation in leading the kangaroo court too.

rehajm said...

…so when they were boasting that no one is above the law they meant Republicans and the other little people…

Iman said...

WTF. An outright acknowledgment of their guilt.

A Legion of Criminals, truth be told.

Whiskeybum said...

Since pardons are granted for those who have committed criminal acts, I guess we have a bunch of senators who have criminal records!!

Big Mike said...

Oh, he lad the turd this morning instead of yesterday.

And Democrats destroy any moral authority they may have once had (i.e., Nixon's pardon by Ford). They will be seen as the party of official corruption for 50 years. To update Michelle Obama: "When Republicans go low, we go lower. We go down into hell."

Marek said...

How do these blanket pardons work when there is no crime specified? Could Fauchi (hypothetically) empty his deep freezer of several dead bodies in front of the press tomorrow? Are there any carve outs? I know the Hunter pardon had a convenient 10 year window. This is a genuine question, if anyone knows the answer. The AP article didn't help.

Iman said...

It’s KAK!!!

rehajm said...

I do suspect, before the week is over, for Dana or some other DC Foxie to declare that prosecutions would be counterproductive and ‘it’s time to move on’. Washington will still try to protect its own…

Big Mike said...

“The issuance of these pardons should not be mistaken as an acknowledgment that any individual engaged in any wrongdoing, nor should acceptance be misconstrued as an admission of guilt for any offense,” Biden said in a statement.

These pardons are not mistaken at all. We understand completely.

Eleven. Eleven years. Strange they chose not to round down. For some strange strange reason…

Per the crazy folks who went after the Supreme Court justices (as Democrats turned a blind eye), I suspect there will be more crazies targeting those who were pardoned.

Advice to all pardoned today: Keep your head on a swivel. Grow eyes on the back of your head. Hire a food taster.

Tell that to Michael Flynn you A-hole.

Eric the Fruit Bat said...

So why haven't I heard about Trump making it his first official act to lay down a blanket pardon of Biden along with a bill of particulars that would make the Declaration of Independence blush?

Dave Begley said...

I like that idea!

I don’t think the pardon power includes blanket immunity from prosecution to begin with. I’d like to see this challenged. People permanently affected by COVID could have standing against Fauci, for one possible approach.

In 2017 when Trump arrived, probably 2/3rds to 3/4ths of everyone in power in DC wanted him gone. Now, a majority apparently support him. Some of them are dirty or were dirty, but they saw Biden's actions and entered the enemy-of-my-enemy-is-my-friend mindset. Routine DC sausage making.

A TACIT ADMISSION OF GUILT

boatbuilder said...

So when Trump pardons all of those charged or convicted for J6 during his inaugural address, nobody will object?

Leland said...

Roger that. The real insurrection of Jan 6, 2021 was when Gen. Milley ignored the US Constitution is his oath to defend it and told China that he would not accept lawful orders from the Commander and Chief with out letting them know, as requested by the Speaker of the House that he do so. Gen. Milley should have resigned if he had issues with his leadership. Instead he committed insubordination in furtherance of usurpation of power by the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi.

mindnumbrobot said...

Originally I wasn't in favor of investigations, but this changes things. Since they can't be prosecuted, investigations can't be characterized retribution. Now, their guilt doesn't need to be proven, but they need to prove their innocence.

Breezy said...

Biden could’ve pardoned all the J6 prisoners, too, along with the committee. That would have been uniting.

rehajm said...

I expect we haven’t heard the end of the list here at 8:30AM. Perhaps on the back of the successful invention of the Blanket Pardon (tm) we’ll see the implementation of the Blanket Pardon List (patent pending), immunizing any and every of our political allies, named and unnamed, for any and every crime real or imagined, committed or yet to be committed. You know, something akin to the genie granting your wish for unlimited more wishes…

The same thing is true of Tratiorous General Millie Vannilli. He probably broke several laws including contacting foreign governments and telling them our current military posture without authorization, and disobeying direct orders and lying to the Commander in Chief.

Tomorrow morning, Congress should announce the creation of a committee to investigate these pardons, and then subpoena Biden. Let his spend five hours in front of a committee answering questions about how he came to the decision to pardon these folks, or else constantly invoking executive privilege. Either way will be enlightening.

Former Illinois resident said...

Double-edged sword, a smear and a favor wrapped in one tidy swipe of presidential auto-pen. Perhaps unconstitutional, certainly blatant partisan lawfare, from the president most likely in need of a pardon himself. But preemptive pardon signals acknowledgment crimes were committed. The bios of these high-profile lawfare partisans, Cheney, Fauci, Milley et al, will now begin with "preemptively pardoned during last hours of Biden presidency, for unnamed crimes, treasonous acts of lawfare, and blatant personal profiteering from national crises..."

Fauci truly deserves investigation, prosecution, and conviction, for his personal role in misdirecting federal actions for AIDS and Covid epidemics, his personal profiteering from NIH patents, his intentional policy misdirection and misinformation, and the many many people who DIED because of Fauci vile actions and nonactions. Fauci is an evil troll.

This must be challenged as an unwarranted use of the legitimate presidential power to pardon people for specified crimes that they have already been judged in a court of law and resulted in a conviction. The "blanket pardon" for unspecified crimes or other actions creates a very dangerous precedent.

As an example of where this might lead, what if Trump signed the following pardon today: "I, Donald J Trump, hereby pardon any citizen who harms anyone who was just pardoned by my predecessor. This should not be taken as a call for vigilante action but as an act of pre-emptive mercy for patriotic citizens who mistakenly seek justice for treasonous acts against this country."

It's Mudd. Not mud.

It’s “Mud”.

A popular belief is that the term comes from Dr Samuel Mudd, who set John Wilkes Booth’s leg after the latter assasinated Lincoln. However, the term long predates Dr Mudd, and the name Mud means a stupid or foolish person.

Another popular misconception is that Mudd was innocent of the conspiracy and was just a country doctor who set a broken leg. However Mudd had met Booth a couple of times before the assassination, and even provided supplies for Booth’s plans. By the time Mudd set Booth’s leg, Mudd was aware that Lincoln had been assassinated. And he was slow to report setting the leg to the authorities.

The only unresolved question with Dr Mudd is if he only partook of Booth’s initial plan to kidnap Lincoln, or if he was aware of the later plan to kill him.

But.... where is the list? The story was written without providing a list of exactly who was bestowed with a pardon. We don't even have a round number. How many pardons were issued, anyway?

And: It must have been quite a conundrum for the cabal. Do we wager that Trump doesn't prosecute any of our team, and maybe secure a conviction of 'guilty' - or do we grant a pardon in advance, and remove all doubt?

They've removed all doubt. The phone lines must have been jammed up.

While it's been uncommon this is not the first time a President has issued pardons for crimes not charged or convicted. There's the obvious case of Nixon but Carter did it for Vietnam era draft evaders, Johnson did it for Confederates after the Civil War, and Washington did it for participants in the Whiskey Rebellion. It has generally been unnamed persons who might have committed specific crimes are pardoned for those offenses. I think this is the first time since Ford's pardon of Nixon that specific persons have been pardoned for unspecified crimes, and certainly the first time such pardons have been issued en mass.

It's absurd to think that people can be pardoned for crimes not yet adjudicated, much less those not yet charged or even known. Surely our Founding Fathers did not mean for this sort of thing to be included in the pardon power.

I hope Trump goes ahead and investigates them all in exhaustive detail -- with vigorous prosecution of any new instances of perjury, obstruction of justice, contempt of court, or contempt of Congress that may occur along the way -- and takes it all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary. Some aggressive prosecution by Texas and Florida and other red states seems to be in order too. These scum should be hit back ten times harder than they hit Trump.

The US sent a diplomatic cable to Pakistan telling them that they had to remove their prime minister, Imran Kahn, who was the most popular politician in the country, and he said that out loud, and was arrested and imprisoned for "revealing state secrets." This was on Joe Biden's orders.

@Freder: I don't think illegal pardons are the issue here, as no one will bother prosecuting the senile puppet Biden for actions he did not understand that were completed by the hidden people who moved his hand in signing them. The issue is whether pardons are logically possible and enforceable, given that no-one has been charged with or convicted of any crime.

Still, these pardons give Trump and the MAGA Republicans an immediate and massive credibility boost versus all hostile political actions and propaganda from 2015 to 2025. The Republicans may revisit everyone who was not "pardoned" to expose, bankrupt, and humiliate. Perhaps this will mirror anti-Trump lawfare. Sane politicians would have seen this coming, but TDS was real.

You see, Biden is certifying that merely accusing people in damaging - as we all know - but a Dem President is certifying The Fact. So now we can agree that it's the intent of lawfare to cause damage and we know it's the intent of the left to do lawfare - so why not cut them right off. Illegal? The lawfare is wrong but not illegal and till it's illegal and thus stopped, effective opposition is not wrong and not illegal. Later, a Constitutional Amendment forbidding both lawfare and preemptive pardons against lawfare?

Yeah. And the partisan hacks here defend it because "democrats". Disgusting.

Anthony Blinken for money laundering. He paid Joe Biden a million dollars to teach a no-show class at Penn. That's how Blinken got his gig as Secretary of State. Biden's only appearances at Penn were all events that required paid admission.

Fauci’s response, via a Democrat stooge:

Jonathan Karl
@jonkarl
Dr. Anthony Fauci tells me he appreciates the pardon, but he committed no crime:

"I really truly appreciate the action President Biden has taken today on my behalf. Let me be perfectly clear, Jon, I have committed no crime, you know that, and there are no possible grounds for any allegation or threat of criminal investigation or prosecution of me."

To which Donald Trump, Jr. replied:

He doesn’t have to accept the pardon. If he did nothing wrong be a man and turn it down… But you know he won’t because everyone knows he’s guilty of so much.

“So much” includes the callous murder of millions of Americans.

It seems to me that such a broad and untested use of Presidential power should be, ah, examined.

That is the impression it gives. It would be nice if we could ask what they are being pardoned for. Now that they can't be prosecuted for it.

It’s nice to see Democrats acknowledge that “lawfare” is a thing.
Not of course that they’d ever be guilty of it.

I hope these pardons cement the Democrat Party as the Party of Corruption forever. May they never be in positions of power again. The democrat Party in its current corrupt form - must die.

So, if Fauci says he declines the pardon can he claim to accept it in the future, Readering, after noon today?

Found the actual pardon on X (obviously MSM is lacking). Indeed it's is back to 2014. Seems to be limited to matters, "... arising from or in any manner tapered to his service as Director of [NAIAD]..."

So- how long do think it will be before the NYT comes out with an article explaining why someone who has committed no crimes needs a pardon?

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

Pardons for Joe's family and for Fauci are for the same period of time as the Hunter Biden pardon, eleven years. It really is crying out for Congressional Investigation.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

"I have no idea," would be the standard response, you can be sure.

Dr Weevil said...

It seems to me that pardoning Fauci and Hunter going all the way back to 2014 implicates Obama. As I've pointed out before, the "Big Guy" who got 10% of Hunter's "earnings" was not Joe Biden, as everyone seems to assume. Hunter himself complained that his father took 50%. That means that the Big Guy must be Obama: no one else could be called that in that context. Worth investigating!

As for punishment, it may not be possible to jail any of the Bidens, even Joe, but it seems to me that Congress could declare him a swinish failure of a pseudo-president and refuse to pay for a Biden presidential library or any kind of monument. Could they even forbid him to build a presidential library and pay for it himself? Worth a try! And if Obama is clearly implicated in any of the crimes Fauci and Hunter were pardoned for, cancel his library, too. I hear the people of Chicago don't want it, anyway.

Yeah I think those are "either/or" but difficult to do both at the same time. Certainly you could bury him alive first, then come back later and do the chopping.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

Among your other many and widely acknowledged deficiencies you have a serious logic problem in attempting to link arbitrary targets and "personal vendetta." If it's personal then he knows who wronged him and is targeting them. But if he knows them and is purposely targeting them they are in no way randomly selected. You are a good candidate for AI proofreading as it would help your sentence construction and reduce logical errors that your own pea-sized brain is incapable of recognizing.

Christopher B said...

If anybody doesn't know, yes he did. But apparently stopped short of a self-pardon. I guess under the Hur standard he figures he doesn't need one.

Christopher B said...

As Lawnerd noted above, the controlling standard is Burdick v US, that holds that an acceptance of a pardon is an admission of guilt, however unless subjected to a court proceeding a pardon doesn't have to be announced to be effective (though I guess that usually happens). United States v. Wilson established that it is possible to reject a pardon.

Christopher B said...

My reading of the brief Wiki summary of Burdick v. United States is that Fauci would be best served by keeping his mouth shut (unlike Milley). A pardon can be declined in order to preserve the right to avoid self-incrimination but I can't see anything that says it can be invoked and revoked at will. My guess would be that the ones Biden has issued can be, however, so long as different charges charges are brought.

Christopher B said...

I disagree it implicates Obama, Dr Weevil. It's more a matter of when the alleged offenses occurred than anything Obama would necessarily have been involved in. Federal funding for Gain of Function research was banned in 2014, and it appears that 2014 is when the Biden Crime Family realized they needed to start cashing in on Joe's remaining two years in office since Obama wasn't going to support a bid for the Presidency.

Narayanan said...

more to the point >> can the recipients cash in on the pardons >>> get paid to confess crimes by others during the period?

1. Biden pardons innocent people which now renders them guilty. 2. Judge Merchan issues a "sentence" of unconditional discharge to a guilty Trump which now renders him innocent.

did FJB fuck thing up by not pardoning Obama ?

I just heard that just before Vance and Trump were sworn in Biden issued blanket pardons for half a dozen members of his family. I wonder what sort of shenanigans THEY might have been up to? Hmmm... (Actually, I have a pretty good idea of what they were doing and I have to assume they're all guilty as hell.)

MJB -- Wuhan's plan for gain of function research started then, I believe. Wiki: "In 2014, the WIV's National Bio-safety Laboratory was built at a cost of 300 million yuan (US$44 million), in collaboration and with assistance from the French government's CIRI lab). The new laboratory building has 3000 m2 of BSL-4 space, and also 20 BSL-2 and two BSL-3 laboratories"

I tried to make an intelligent comment re the pardons and it disappeared. See "Burdick vs US 1925" in which SCOTUS says accepting the pardon is, in effect, admission of guilt. There's some difference of opinion, but SCOTUS has not changed its language. Bunch of guilty bastards.
