Even as a long time pessimist I was surprised by this bit of news. Even Dollar General, the Walmart of the truly desperate and broke, is now having trouble. Egad.

Dollar General depends upon wafer-thin profit margins, which have evaporated over the last (counts on fingers) four years. COVID didn't help, but high shipping costs are killing them.

The reason the Kamala Harris' lie about working at McDonald's is important is that her team didn't have any idea how easy it would be to prove that Kamala Harris has never worked at McDonalds. They don't know about paychecks, corporate records, W2 forms, HR, paying taxes .... that's all stuff WE do. They don't do any of that, so they think they can just lie about having jobs and think we can't catch them lying.

They're price gaugers! And they're getting out of business before Kamala can bring her righteous might down upon them!

It’s staggering that the MSM has yet to expose the most glaring weakness in the Harris campaign, which is her complete lack of KH branded trading cards, sneakers or bibles. How she can possibly be taken seriously without this? But then It’s obvious the MSM and deep state won’t allow such criticism.

It reveals that Harris has no grasp of the meaning of what really constitutes “American history” and the role that these vital artifacts play. The cards allow the real Trump to be seen, a fearsome warrior, lighter by around 40lbs and 8 less shades or orange. Free of the shackles of the woke and failing MSM it’s a chance to see the true alternative to Harris -- the “crypto president” with the “knock out suit”.

By far the most unfair part of this is the dilemma of which cards to buy. I’m sure many will be drawn to the one of him holding actual real bitcoins, but there are so many others – “Supertrump” (my woke spell check keeps making that “Supertramp”), “Greatest of All Time”, “Fight Fight Fight” – I’ve not been this conflicted and confused the first time I saw the Village People perform “YMCA”. Luckily, at just $99 each, there’s no reason not to get them all. For just $7,425 you can get 75 cards, 3 pairs of Trump sneakers, dinner with the Greatest of All Time himself, an autographed piece of “that” suit, plus a replica of the tighty-whities Trump was wearing at his “business meeting” with Stormy Daniels, autographed by Stormy herself.

Until Harris addresses this monumental failing in her campaign, I can’t see how anyone can take her seriously.

Trump inciting violence again, so soon after the shoving of an Arlington Cemetery employee by his campaign staff.

At Trump’s rally in Johnstown, PA a rally goer jumps over the Press barriers and starts climbing the risers where there were press filming the rally. This happened directly after Trump criticized the press for him getting bad publicity. CBS security personnel got to the Trump supporter first and took him down, then he was tazed by law enforcement personnel.

Trump noticed the commotion and the attacker being taken down and said, “Beautiful” thinking the man was against him, but quickly it became apparent to Trump that the man was a Trump supporter attacking the press after being incited by Trump. “Since Kamala and the media don't want to attack her radical record, we will," Trump said.”

Trump then says this "That's alright. That's OK. No, he's on our side," Trump said as the man attacking journalists was taken down, before offering a quip and a chuckle. "We get a little itchy, don't we? No, no, he's on our side."

“While testifying to a Federal Trade Commission attorney Tuesday, Kroger's Senior Director for Pricing Andy Groff said the grocery giant had raised prices for eggs and milk beyond inflation levels.

"This is not at all surprising," Drew Powers, the founder of Illinois-based Powers Financial Group, told Newsweek. "Companies across multiple industries have been posting record profits since the COVID-19 crisis while consumers have faced the highest inflation in recent history. The math can only point to companies raising prices above the general level of inflation. As the old saying goes, 'Never let a good crisis go to waste.'"

“While testifying to a Federal Trade Commission attorney Tuesday, Kroger's Senior Director for Pricing Andy Groff said the grocery giant had raised prices for eggs and milk beyond inflation levels.

“This cherry-picked email covers a specific period and does not reflect Kroger’s decades-long business model to lower prices for customers by reducing its margins,” a Kroger spokesperson said in an email response to questions. "What’s missing is the fact that Kroger’s retail prices include the cost to run a grocery store, including labor, transportation, advertising, and other costs. Many of these costs have significantly increased since 2020. Kroger’s pricing decisions are impacted by factors beyond inflation.

Kroger said it works to keep costs low, particularly for essentials like milk and eggs.

"Since 2020, these commodities saw significant cost fluctuations for a broad range of products. Despite these challenges Kroger has maintained competitive pricing for milk and eggs, especially compared to Walmart. Reducing margins to lower prices over time so more customers shop with us is our business strategy, and the strategy we will implement at Albertsons after our merger," the company said.

If DG goes bust then I don't know. They'll die at faster rate than they do now I guess. Think of Frank Gallagher from the TV show Shameless but without the family support system. My semi retired social worker & educrat background and life experience gives me some insight on things. Eggs are good fresh protein for not much money, but they're delicate and have to be cooked first & refrigerated. Bags of cookies or generic candy is what they live off of. That and drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. Trump v Harris doesn't mean shit at that level of society tbh so I can't get too worked up about debates and tv ads, although the attempted assassination of Trump is concerning. Not to sound like RFK but it's hard to see how that shooting wasn't State provoked.

Without evidence of wider industry price collusion, the Kroger accusations do nothing to explain the economy-wide inflation we’ve experienced, especially in regions of the country like mine where there are no Krogers.

Gospace said...

From what I've read- the USA is the only country in the world where eggs are routinely refrigerated. We'd take on cartons of eggs before a spec-op or deterrent, and 72 days later would be eating freshly cooked never refrigerated eggs. Much better then powdered eggs.

The commodities in shortest supply have larger price rises because price rations consumption to match what's on hand. Not everything matchces the inflation rate and it's idiotic to think it should, typical of the news media.

rhhardin said...

Everybody consuming and nobody producing. Inflation is working out the disruptions that that produced, with price rationing the consumption of various inputs and outputs, except in places where nobody raised prices and the result was empty shelves. That in addition produced hoarding. No product at any price.

The prices of gasoline and diesel fuel have risen well beyond the inflation rate. Foolish Newsweek and bigger fool Inga think eggs sprout legs and walk from the hen house to the grocery shelves.

The price of eggs has always fluctuated, higher around holidays (because people like to bake) and also higher when supply wanes due to avian flu outbreaks and other factors. Prices dip when supplies are ample. ALDI used to have reliably lower egg prices but they've even had to boost prices. Milk's a commodity, too, and market prices for producers vary widely.

I'll still take that over government monopoly any time

The inflation rate is an AVERAGE. Some things rise more, some less.

Each item has its own supply and demand. That’s what makes Kamala’s plan so ridiculous.

"There is growing evidence that fake judge @Alexandre engaged in serious, repeated & deliberate election interference in Brazil’s last presidential election.

Under Brazilian law, that would mean up to 20 years in prison.

And, I’m sorry to say that it appears that some former Twitter employees were complicit in helping him do so.

Anyone with examples or evidence to this effect, please reply to this post.

Gospace, correct. My dad switched from dairying to laying hens in the 1970s. It's a variation on 'Red Delicious' syndrome. You know, the apples that look exactly like everybody pictures an apple should but taste like slightly sweetened sawdust. Refrigeration may extend the shelf-life of eggs somewhat but primarily it keeps the yolk firm so that the eggs look fresher than unrefrigerated eggs.
