"Simply for posting a link to the Israeli chapter of the Red Cross, the novelist Kristin Hannah was deemed a 'Zionist'..."

"... as was the author Gabrielle Zevin for delivering a book talk to Hadassah, a Jewish women’s organization. Needless to say, the creator of the list — whose post on X announcing it garnered over a million views within a few days — encourages readers to boycott any works produced by 'Zionists.'... Since a large majority of American Jews (80 percent of whom, according to a 2020 poll, said that caring about Israel is an important or essential part of their Judaism) are Zionists, to accuse all Zionists of complicity in genocide is to anathematize a core component of Jewish identity. Over the past several months, a litmus test has emerged across wide swaths of the literary world effectively excluding Jews from full participation unless they denounce Israel.... For a growing set of writers, declaring one’s belief that the world’s only Jewish state is a genocidal entity whose dismantlement is necessary for the advancement of humankind is a political fashion statement, a bauble one parades around in order to signify being on the right team....."

Writes James Kirchick, in "How ‘Zionist’ Became a Bad Word in Publishing" (NYT).

I just posted this on yesterday’s Libertarian thread in response to Gadfly’s weak attempt to pretend there’s distance between Leftism and fascism, but it’s just as appropriate here. After all “the issue is never the issue, the issue is the revolution.”

Communism is inherently anti-Jew as well. It’s baked into the fascist-commie-socialist ideology. For some reason secular Jews who reject the God of the Torah and Prophets are drawn to the commie religion, which by its collectivist nature is always fascist in practice. But non-Jewish collectivists always end up turning on the secular Jews as well when it comes time to purify their movement or like now, when the collectivist forces of evil are at war with the civilized nation of Israel.

I suppose there are pros and cons about the way Israel is handling its war, but there are no pros and cons with Hamas. They're really, really bad people. I'd put them down as worse than the Nazis. Anne Frank had a pleasant time with the Nazis compared to what those girls in Hamas captivity are undergoing--the ones that weren't raped and murdered. Hamas initiated this war and did it in such a way as to trigger an "exterminate the brutes" response. The Israeli response, considering the nature of the provocation, has not been off the charts. I'd characterize the response as appropriately disproportionate.....There are all sorts of unpleasant people in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, the West Bank who are looking at Gaza. Their hatred is now more intense but (one hopes) they'd be less inclined to launch the kind of raid Hamas made.

Alienation is essential to Jewish culture, to keep Jews from assimilating. It takes the form of finding antisemitism everywhere. It's even better if it's real, as it is from time to time.

Academic book catalogs that I used to get in the 80s, in the Jewish Studies section, always had a "Holocaust for Children" subsection.

High IQ Jews, and there are a lot of them, maintain alienation as a creative resource independently, but the others would not.

Stalin killed Jews at a brisk rate. In the first show trials, fifteen of the sixteen defendants were Jewish. Lillian Hellman, however, never lost faith in him. Still, I think Hamas will be a bigger stretch for the secular Jewish left than Stalin or Mao. Maybe if Hamas adapted red berets instead of prayer shawls more on the Jewish left would find it in their hearts to support their cause.

Point taken. Killing people is pretty easy, with military weapons. Now ponder this for a moment; if the NAZIs had wanted to kill every Jew in Germany, they could have done it quite easily. They would not have needed camps and trains and gas chambers. They would not have left any "Holocaust survivors", who spent years in the "extermination camps", moving from one to another, but somehow never got exterminated. Anne Frank would not have died in an infirmary, of typhus.

You can't really blame the Palestinians for crying "Holocaust". Look how well it has worked out for the Zionists.

Understandable, but don't worry. Leftist American Zionists- which is to say, the vast majority of American Jews- would rather be tortured than admit flyover Americans buy their books.

Knowing that their pets are rejecting them with increasing violence is the worst thing Jewish urbanites can experience. The more you call them our Greatest Ally and assure them they can come to your barbecue any time, the more pain they feel. Really, they're watching the entire system of international law declare them a pariah nation. You can afford a tiny bit of sympathy for such unfortunates.

But then, Naomi Klein, Max Blumenthal, Glenn Greenwald and many others are finding a large audience for the idea that Zionism is anthetical to Judaism. Expect that audience to grow.

Jupiter said...

The fact is, that "Zionism" was invented during the 19th Century, by Jews. It consisted in an effort to obtain land for a Jewish homeland. At that time, the system of the World was imperialism, and there was nothing particularly unusual about a group of people asking one potentate or another to give them a place to live. Places to live belonged to the rulers of empires, not to the people who lived there.

The Zionists were successful, although not in quite the way they had hoped. But the system of the World has changed. The displacement of the native peoples of the Americas was far enough along that it has become a fact on the ground. I am not "going back" to Ireland, and the Kalapuya aren't going to try to make me. They're too busy running their casinos. But the same was not true in Algeria, or South Africa. The French settlers were driven out of Algeria, after a horrific struggle. And things aren't looking too good for whites in South Africa.

It is a small World, after all. There isn't enough to go around, which is why people fight over it. The reason genocide is so popular is that it settles things, once and for all. There aren't any Christians left in Turkey, to complain about how their land was stolen.

Jupiter said...

"But then, Naomi Klein, Max Blumenthal, Glenn Greenwald and many others are finding a large audience for the idea that Zionism is an[ti]thetical to Judaism. Expect that audience to grow."

Well, grow it may. But where does it lead? If Zionism is antithetical to Judaism, where does that leave the Jews of Zion? "Hey, sorry about all the fuss with five generations of your family. I guess we'll be heading back to Russia and Germany now. We were happier there anyway".

I loved this paragraph from the linked article:

One of the greatest mass delusions of the 21st century is the belief that Israel is committing a genocide against Palestinians. This grotesque moral inversion — in which a genocidal terrorist organization that instigated a war with Israel by committing the largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust is absolved of responsibility while the victim of Hamas’s attack is charged with perpetrating the worst crime known to man — began taking shape before Israel even launched its ground invasion of Gaza.

I do not, I will not, tolerate women who call themselves feminists but who nevertheless are perfectly okay with the gang rape, torture, and murder of young Jewish female civilians, because that’s how much they hate Jews (or how much they want to be part of a “mean girls” clique that hates Jews). I have even more contempt for the men who find the tactics employed against unarmed Jewish civilians on October 7th. Soldiers fight against soldiers; that’s what they do. The men of Hamas attacked unarmed civilians; they are not soldiers in any sense of the word. They do not rate the rules of the Geneva Convention; they rate death.

"As has been said, the Antisemite is always, at root, a fool."

Well, that's deep. Pretty much every country in Europe has expelled the Jews at one point or another during the last millennium. Turns out -- They were all fools! Yeah, that explains it. Fools. Must be something in the water.

Communities of Jews lived as separate populations within the Christian nations of Europe, with their own laws and leaders. While they were often able to prosper, it was generally by financial manipulation and trade, rather than by agricultural or industrial production. Such success was often regarded as parasitic by the Christian community. Relations between Christians and Jews were always problematic, and the Jews were well aware of that fact. Zionism was intended -- by the Zionists -- to be a solution to that problem. I guess the Zionists were fools too.

I understand why you'd post that sarcastically, but there are any number of dual citizens who will certainly be using their alternate passports. I wouldn't be surprised if over one million Israelis literally think they were better off in Egypt, solely because they weren't being bombed. Veggie Tales had a great bit about this, actually.

Now, at some point is that going to be terrible news for everyone left behind? Of course, but I wasn't the one who told them to colonize the West Bank. The more NATO countries withdraw support and "international law" indicts Israeli leaders, the more pressure the Democrats come under to disavow the whole project. The GOP can labor harder for Israel than they do for their own country: it's not going to matter. The internal contradictions of the NWO are causing it to fracture along a dozen lines.

Ironically, even in the current tribulation any number of Americans are doing just fine blending in. Max Blumenthal hates Zionist Israel on a level where I wish he'd back off a bit. Nonetheless, things proceed.

mikee said...

The Palestinian supporters in the US suffer under the same delusion as Hamas and the Gazans, that having started a war with the nation state of Israel with a genocidal attack, Hamas and their Gazan supporters get to determine not only the ROE of Israel during the conflict, but the terms of surrender to Israel after Hamas is defeated. And that after winning the war, Israel must for some reason surrender to the demands of the conquered Gazans and provide them with another chance to kill more Jews in Isreal. They demand even a nation state recognized by the Israelis, composed of all Israeli territory, with the magical disappearance of all Israelis from Israel.

And here I thought chutzpah was a Yiddish word. I suggest Israel demand unconditional surrender and have immediate war crime trials by military courts for Hamas and all supporters.

It's the hit cur that yelps.

Fancy that Europe's Jews turned to finance and trade, being forbidden by law to work in most other areas until the 19th C.

Then, when they were emancipated and moved into formerly closed professions and started beating the goyim at their own games, there followed an explosion of artistic, scientific, economic, and cultural achievements that we call the Modern World. (The emancipated slaves of the USA are another instance of the advantages to a society of equality under the law, and similarly contributed to the distinctive success of late 19th and early 20th C. America.)

There is nothing in the history or culture of the Palestinians to indicate that they have anything to offer the world but their own backwardness, stupidity, and grievance.

If you care about the actual Palestinian people then you want Hamas killed and heads put up on pikes. The people who were dancing in the streets when Palestinian fighters drove around with brutally beaten and raped women in the backs of their trucks need to be made an examples of.

These examples need to be explicit so the West Bank Palestinians get the message and make appropriate decisions.

The problem is that Israel is dragging this bullshit out. The Palestinians are hated by everyone in the region. Two other countries have killed more Palestinians than the Jews. The wall Egypt built to keep the Palestinians out is epic.

Pretending this is an Israel problem is just stupid.

The Palestinian men need to be defeated and the women and children dispersed into surrounding tribes where they can live in peace.

The "Palestinian" tribe is a failure and we need to stop consigning generations of kids and women to live under their failed leadership.

There are Black Jews as well; you might recall that Jonathan Netanyahu, Bibi's brother, was killed while rescuing them from Ethiopia. Part of the problem is the association of the word Zionist. For people in their sixties and older like me, Zionism meant a Jewish homeland in a part of Palestine. But increasingly, and the association for people in their thirties or younger, Zion is Greater Israel, is Palestine. From the river to the sea. That's what it means to Bibi.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

Readering at 9:17 provides a most excellent explanation for why “quibbling over words” is necessary, for it is not at all limited to internet conversations. As the late and very great man Rush Limbaugh said many times, “Words have meaning,” which he would follow up with whatever current redefinition leftists were attempting contemporaneously. Leftists are always destroying words, redefining words, proscribing words and inventing new words to disguise their intentions and control the narrative. Even the miseducated youth Readering mentions will mature and gain some knowledge not gatekept by their teachers and some will realize the older meaning of words that they learned in error. Perhaps some will find that Zion is used interchangeably throughout the texts on which Judeo-Christian cultures are built, texts that predate the invention of Islam and “Palestine.”

“Don’t quibble with my words” is the filthy refuge of internet scoundrels, doing their own interpretation of Alice’s Red Queen, but really using the Leftist mob’s favorite tactics of destroying meaning to control the Narrative.

Oops: “Zion is used interchangeably with Israel throughout the texts“ I meant above. Sorry for the lack of clarity.
