"... because doing so had only added to her anxiety. She became neither hopeful nor despairing. 'In the cave, the line of time disappears, and everything floats around you,' she told me. 'A while ago I was born. A while ago I was going to visit Mongolia. There is no past, there is no future. Everything is present, everything is a while ago, and it’s all brutal and strange.' One temporal marker remained. After five defecations, she would carry her waste, in plastic pouches, up to the exchange point, and then hurry back down.... There came a moment, she told me, when she thought that she was dying. It felt like an act not of suicide but of release: 'There was no difference between what I was feeling then and what I understand as death.'"
From "The Woman Who Spent Five Hundred Days in a Cave/Beatriz Flamini liked to be alone so much that she decided to live underground—and pursue a world record. The experience was gruelling and surreal" (The New Yorker).

Six weeks, six months, and Beatriz emerges from the womb. Mom, are we there yet?
“Womb”. These people are retarded.
I'm gonna guess she's a Democrat.
I'm sure this is very exciting.
To someone who gives a sh*t.

They're playing wuth a double-edged scalpel,
tramp-ling metaphors, and birthing "burdens" on their sociopolitical discourse. Let us empathize. Off with her head!
So I'm guessing she was menopausal?
gspencer nailed it at 7:15.
If I ever run into a person who decides (for notoriety) to live in a cave for a period of time, I doubt very much this would be the person I'd single out for life perspectives. But then...I'm not on the staff of The New Yorker.
Amateur.
"gspencer nailed it at 7:15."
You're assuming she's American. She's not. She's Spanish.
Gosh, I am so grateful there are people brave enough to do the things we all are yearning to do but have much better sense.
FedEx won't find you darlin' Trust me

The Spanish equivalent of a Democrat is a member of Partido Socialista Obrero EspaƱol (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party). Originally founded as a Marxist worker's party, it has renounced Marxism, but is still a party in the Social Democracy mold.

"He not busy being born is busy dying,"
Bob Dylan in "It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)."
"It was grueling and surreal...."
But let there be no doubt that finally, indisputably, it was All About Her.
She didnt know it but Aaron Rogers was down there too.
It would be interesting to know what her mental health profile was before she started inhabiting the cave so that there would be some basis for a comparison.

She was "in the womb of the cave," so she must have been busy being born.
So, after 500 days, did she finally cave?
"To someone who gives a sh*t."
She gave it on a pretty regular basis : )
'FedEx won't find you darlin' Trust me'
But the feds would if she'd been in DC on Jan 6 : )
Crazy.
Ann Althouse:

So you agree she didn't know if she was coming or going.
Does publicizing her actions not destroy any other reason she gives for doing them?
5,000 mg of vitamin D would have solved all her problems. $9 a bottle. Idiot. Is she a scientist?
