I'm certain plenty of American women (and men) — probably a big majority — care about keeping transwomen out of competitive women's sports, but that doesn't mean what is wanted is any sort of unkindness or disrespect aimed at the individuals who will be excluded.
For a long time, I've thought of DeSantis as a good alternative to Trump for people who like a lot of Trump's ideas but can't take the weirdness. DeSantis had the opportunity to repackage Trumpism in normality and reliable solidity. But somehow he's opting for a different route. Really awful.

Coming in at the tail end with a hypothesis: I will bet you that most "fake-women" athletes do not have fathers in their lives who are alpha males. Only the weakest betas, or absent fathers who have no influence on their sons would allow male offspring to think there is any upside, or honor, in beating women in sports where men have insurmountable and natural genetic advantages.
I have no data, so just articulating a theory. Is anyone aware of published research on who these fathers are, and why they would condone such ridiculous behavior? These kids did not spring from the soil, they were raised by somebody who did not -- or could not -- stop them from making this huge mistake.

Are you referencing the same patriarchy that any first-year women's studies major can tell you conceived, created and imposed the social construct "gender" on the world as a means to subjugate all women? Gender is inherently oppression, which begs the question, why would anyone conform to its dictates?
I saw it and thought it was funny as hell, because it was true. The trans folk who are taking opportunities away from real women are not the victims, they are the perps.

When transgenders hiding their male sex beat wrestlers and MMA athletes into the hospital, I'll give a thought to their feelings. And decide they just want to beat women into comas.
When males with a meat and two vegs decide they're going to use the sympathies of calculating misogynists to deprive women of their athletic accomplishments and stand there smirking on the award blocks, I have to assume you're smirking too.
When male predators demand and usually receive transfer to women's prisons by feigning transgenderism, where several have raped and stalked female prisoners, I can only think you endorse raping imprisoned women.
When transgender leadership successfully esttablish that the only rape victims to be counted as sex OR gender bias hate crime victims are transgenders, not women, you quietly support the legal dehumanization of women.
When transgender leadership stops calling women "breeders" and "cissexuals" and declare such terms verboten in their movement, I might believe they've gotten a bit better at hiding their hatred and mockery of us.

With that said, the rise of the alphabet ideology has invited a new category of people into the transgender tent: sexual predators. The drive to accommodate and celebrate transgenderism has been an invitation for men with various frustrations to invade women’s spaces and take them over. Transgender athletes are one such category; another is sexual predators and deviants.
Yet another example of this, in addition to those rapists who worm their way into women’s prisons, are the men who join gyms to gawk at women in locker rooms, and those who become residents of women’s shelters to prey on already victimized women.
It’s disgusting, and it is also the official policy of many governments to enable this abuse.

Which is what I call "cruelty oriented". But then, I actually care about women prisoners, women who've been physically abused, and women who've been raped.
Which is why I don't want to let male rapists claim to be female, and then get access to all those victims.

What I'll say is this:
you can care about transgender people, or you can care about women in women's shelters
You can't care about both
Either "trans women are real women", and male rapists can say they're trans in order to get access to those vulnerable women, or else "if you have a penis, you can't enter women's spaces".
There is no "in between"
And the reason why there's no "in between" is because that's the way the "trans activists" want it
So either you are at war with the trans activists, or you are at war against raped and battered women
