At the Gloomy Day Café...

This morning was cold and 100% overcast, so I skipped my usual run. The photograph is from yesterday at 6:37 a.m.

It turned cold last night: from shorts and tees Tuesday to long pants, undershirt, long-sleeved undershirt and flannel. Winter is icumen in, all sing goddam.

And it's only going to about 28* tonight--hardly worth noticing to you Northerners.

I'm braving the cold soon to hear the Mozart Requiem presented by the MSO and the Rhodes College (alma mater of Justice ACB) Singers. Free and open to the public in the Rhodes College performance space that used to be a church. Mi esposa is averse to the drive, the sit, and leaving the dog again (we ate out), and as you will recall she can't hear very well.

Hope you can make it.

So after "the endless deep Lake Mendota of Althousia" it's still lake pictures?

They say the tallest candidate wins, or the candidate with the longest name. Lately people are saying it's the stupidest candidate who prevails. None of that is literally true, but President Fetterman is still our future.

Rope a Dope Sleepy Joe sets a historic midterm holding Senate and looking toward holding the House (results in a week, two or so) in the delusional hype of a RED WAVE. MAGA election result deniers take a beating, Lake is next, Warnock in 4 weeks to add to the results. Historic midterms in a time when inflation is high, wages not good and a President with 44% record makes history. What does that say about right wing offerings of culture issues and the big lie? Blacks Latinos, Gen X, Asians, single women, Dobbs, trump all in the mix for rejection of Maga efforts and very weak, unelectable candidates thanks to the losing president of last administration. trump will come out Tuesday and announce a run for 2024 and cement Warnocks win especially if he thinks about going to Georgia, the real kiss of death for the football guy. Well, it looks at least they'll have Loren Bobbert Sleepy Joe breaks the historic trend average of losing minimum 26 seats in House as incumbent Administration, rope a dope by partisan Joe runs on Democracy, his legacy adds points It looks as if the previous AUTOPSY REPORT by the righties failed bigly, Even the election result trump big lie election result deniers are conceding, ground control to Major Tom. Trumpism weening toward McCarthyism and out the door, will take few more years though. Repubs just want to win, time to get rid of the losers. Pulling back from the brink. Can we get an AMEN? BUT REMAIN vigilant! Veterans say OORAH!

Senate now lost to Republicans.
House now in danger of Dems retaining control.

All this with the country in the toilet.

And some would have us believe that the most visible man in the Republican Party who on Monday was bragging about how great he is and how people want HIM, these people would have us believe that his overbearing presence played no role in the result.

I've been inside for a week due to the weather. It isn't that bad but it's that but for now. I slowly acclimatize to winter. In the meantime I'm forcing myself to walk/run on a treadmill. Takes some mental gymnastics to keep going. So much easier getting over the "feels bad...quit" vibe when you are moving through space.

The split in the House may end up being one or two votes.

The problem is that House members are dying all the time, seats open up all the time during the term. Which means that leadership could flip and flop back and forth repeatedly.

That would be

fucking awesome

Speaker McCarthy: "We'd like to open up our impeachment trial of the attorney general. Calling our first witness."

Republican keels over and dies.

Speaker McCarthy: "Shit!"

Speaker Pelosi: "The republic is saved! We're re-opening our show trial of the former non-president, Donald Trump. We are issues subpoenas for the president's dog, who was there at the time...order! Order!"

Republican #1: "Donald Trump doesn't have a dog! He hates dogs!"

Republican #2: "What kind of fresh hell is this?"

Speaker Pelosi: "Calm down. Calm down. This is not an official White House dog. This was a secret dog, playing fetch with the President, on the lawn, the day of January 6. As this dog will testify, using the Lassie method, one bark for yes, two barks for no--"

Republican #3: "This is bullshit!"

Republican #4: "Dogs can't talk in the House!"

Republican #5: "Man's best friend my ass!"

Democrat keels over and dies.

Speaker Pelosi: "Motherfucker!"

Speaker McCarthy: "Out of order! Out of order! Any members cursing in the chamber will be sentenced to Republican jail."

AOC: "What the fuck!"

Speaker McCarthy: "Jail her."

AOC: "You can't do that shit!"

Speaker McCarthy: "Put a muzzle on her."

Enter the kangaroos.

Speaker McCarthy: "Who let the kangaroos in here? Who let the kangaroos into the people's House?!"

Looks as though Laxalt has lost in Nevada. The Warnock-Walker runoff is going to be for whether the Senate is 51-49 Democrat, or 50-50 with Harris breaking ties. McConnell and Trump are not fond of each other, and Trump has lost no time blasting McConnell’s leadership during this campaign. Frankly. neither man covered himself in glory, and an election that decent people had hoped would lead to finger pointing between moderate Democrats and Progs will see finger pointing on the Republican side instead. Bad as Trump’s performance was (why didn’t he spend more of the money he raised helping candidates he endorsed), a fair analysis is that McConnell’s performance was no better. The efforts provided by him and NRSC chairman Rick Scott were at best ineffective.

Over on the House side, NRCC chair Tom Emmer is trying to take a victory lap, but we expected to flip something like 30+ seats and the real number will be closer to 10. Work smarter, Tom, not harder, if you can, and that goes for McCarthy too.

And when will we finally get rid of the utterly worthless rich Romney relative Ronna McDaniel and replace her with someone who understands that “work” is not truly a four-letter word. Harder or smarter, either would be s happy change.

I’m going to make a prediction, right here, right now. The Republican presidential will not be Ron DeSantis, and not because of Donald Trump (not solely, anyway). The media will have two years to set out to destroy his candidacy, and they have already started.

"We were quite happy with his major and unprecedented policy successes: making America energy-independent, restoring the manufacturing base, revisiting trade deals to benefit American workers, creating a surge in employment and prosperity, laboring to put a stop to illegal immigration, appointing conservative judges, rebuilding a depleted military, and establishing renewed American pre-eminence on the international stage. Now we are ready to consign him to the golf course. How quickly gratitude turns to recrimination."
"Republicans need to get their act together instead of unintentionally justifying the betrayal of the RINO Machiavellian elites and foolishly consolidating the Democrat campaign against the very nation they presumably hold dear."

"Second, although I have nothing but good things to say about Ron DeSantis, I do note that his single largest donor is the financier Ken Griffin. In a recent interview in Politico, Griffin said that he was ready to back DeSantis in 2024. Why? Many reasons. But one prominent reason, Griffin said, was that DeSantis “wants to . . . blunt the vein of populism that has complicated the party’s relationship with the corporate world.”

Ah, “the corporate world.” That would be BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, Davos, and the World Economic Forum. Forget about “making America great again.” The new mantra is “making globalism great again.”"

What that air show crash immediately brought to mind was my mother telling us stories when we were kids of how heartbreaking it was for her to watch American planes get shot down overhead, in Holland during the war; and her descriptions. But she did say that they used to watch the battles from the roof of the garage. She also told me, when she was in her eighties, that she still had nightmares about the fucking Nazis. I added the expletive; she never swore. She said the only time she ever heard her father swear was when Nazi planes appeared the first time.

Did I say I hate Nazis? But I guess that what Kissinger said is true, that America has no permanent friends or enemies, only interests. As the saying is in the front office of sports teams, “Think like the fans, sit with the fans.”

wendybar, when are you going to figure out that Ukraine is the center of Democrat political corruption, that the only significant and documented election interference in 2016 came from Ukraine, and that the impeachment was primarily intended to cover this up?

These are all positions I have held since 2016, except for the impeachment part, which didn't happen until 2020. Did you think it was weird that Trump's attorney, who went to Ukraine to gather evidence of this had all of his phones and computers seized and that Trump was not allowed to present any kind of defense, because that defense would have raised the fact that Ukraine interfered with the election, making up fake evidence against Trump, the "Black Ledger," at the behest of Democrats. The Ukrainian politician who "leaked" the "Black Ledger," per White House logs, had met with "the whistleblower" in Biden's offices there prior to the leak of the fabricated ledger.

Of course now Biden takes meetings like this in Delaware, where no logs are kept. But you continue to be a good doobie and accept that they are not lying to you about Nazis in the Ukraine.

tim in vermont said...

In fact, it’s not a stretch to infer that the reason that the phone call to Zelensky set their hair on fire, despite its seemingly innocuous nature, was that they were terrified that Zelensky might spill the beans.

I've known that since Biden bribed them (with OUR money) to force a prosecutor to step down that was investigating Hunter.

Big Mike,

I'm not a Democrat, but: So much depends on premises in your question, yes? It might be that a lot of Americans would say "making America great" would involve things like legislating / funding access to health care for all citizens, for instance. But something tells me you wouldn't think that was so "great."

The Mozart Requiem was not that familiar to me. I had heard snatches of it but never the whole work. Not what I expected--many shortish sections. Great music, naturlich.

I hadn't realized until I got there that Lauridsen's "Lux Aeterna" was the second work. I've heard recordings, but the live performance last night was brilliant.

There was a good and diverse crowd. Many of the young women (and some of the not-young women)
looked fit and hot, blue hair and tats notwithstanding.

tim in vermont said...

But still it doesn't bother you that the CIA overthrew the non-aligned government of Ukraine and installed a pro-NATO govt and it it doesn't bother you that the US then took sides in the resulting civil war and you seem to believe that Russia's move was "unprovoked" even though Ukraine had started a massive artillery barrage, which usually opens the way for an offensive, on the Russian speaking areas, who refused to accept the coup. Oh yeah, and BTW, the nazis were the muscle in that coup.

Can you at least accept the possibility that the press is lying to you, Biden is lying to you, and that what you hear about the war in the press is mostly lies? If you had read stories about Ukraine in the US press, even the New York Times and the Washington Post that were written before this year, they talked *a lot* about Ukraine's nazi problem.
