No sunrise picture today. It was raining in the 6 a.m. hour. But I did get a walk in the clear afternoon. That picture was taken at 4:44.

I’m certainly enjoying the trajectory of the Mar-a-Lago raid! It launched with enough rumors of ‘nuclear secrets’ that (alleged) presidential historian Michael Beschloss compared Trump to the Rosenbergs. It’s flaming carcass reentered the atmosphere with today’s admission that the DoJ illegally confiscated privileged attorney-client documents, and the revelation that the raid’s lead FBI agent was terminated last Friday.

tim in vermont said...

So the FBI agent behind the raid abruptly resigned and was escorted out of the building today? Same guy who told Facebook to suppress reporting on unter-Hay iden-Bay's aptop-lay, known by the FBI to have been accurate, just prior to the election?

I simply don't believe that the FBI has suffered some fit of conscience. I don't trust that hive of villainy, sorry. This story is probably false.

Looks cool and refreshing!

I finished McCullough's "1776" the other day. Very well paced and sourced, without parti pris or pedantry, and fair to all participants (as near as I can judge).

So apparently the FBI has decided to toss one agent under the bus for the Hunter Laptop debacle.

I have to ask our left commentators... When are you going to hold your side accountable for being wrong on every issue? Either you are going to have to switch sides, or live with perpetual egg on your face. Hunter's laptop was true, the FBI spiked it, the FBI is clearly partisan. You are the baddies. Accepting that you are in denial is the first step.

An interesting side-by-side whataboutism comparison:

FBI Director Christopher Wray said on Thursday that allegations of FBI agent Tim Thibault's partisan social media posts and efforts to suppress information in the investigation into Hunter Biden’s business activities were “deeply troubling.” No formal hearings or confronting the whistleblower, just "your gone." Of course, we have been down that path before, when Pete Strzok and Lisa Page were accused of twisting Trump's interactions with the Russians in the 2016 election - but as in all such cases ever, political bias has never been proven to make anyone, including FBI agents criminal.

Meanwhile, our infamous Secret Service Agent and Trump supporter, Tony Ornato, who had agreed to talk to the DHS about Trump's actions on January 6 and to give information that he might have regarding the massive deletion of messages from USSSA cellphones - suddenly retired on August 29. According to a memo sent by the DHS IG, the inspector general had been attempting to interview Ornato since June 29 and spent all of July and much of August following up.

“We can confirm that Anthony Ornato retired from the U.S. Secret Service today in good standing after 25 years of devoted service,” Secret Service spokesperson and special agent Kevin Helgert reported. DHS has continually dodged this issue and now, suddenly Ornato is a private citizen who cannot be forced to cooperate. But the Jan 6 Committee can continue to investigate this matter.

gadfly said...

Tony Ornato, it dawns on me, is "just an ordinary guy, trying hard to win [Trump's] prize."

“Most Republicans, including me, believe that when it comes to Trump, there is no law,” [Lindsey] Graham seethed in that Fox appearance. “It’s all about getting him.”

So I wonder how he plans to explain this to the Georgia grand jury? "Open mouth, insert foot" won't work.

What is this insane war against motherhood being rolled out at the NYTimes? A column about how men (cavemen?) invented the 'myth of maternal love,' and a truly grotesque article comparing all human mothering to the travails of a caged, aging gorilla, complete with the author's lurid description of the gorilla's sagging, milkless breasts.

Has she ever seen an aging male gorilla? They also have sagging breasts.

Why am I forced to even ask such an idiotic question? Criticize zoos if you want, but the only places human mothers are locked in lifelong captivity are Islamic dictatorships. And of course the author ain't touching that.

Funny fact: in the early 20th century, the NYT was one of the most vigorous purveyors of "black beast" imagery describing black men of being subhuman, specifically ape-like.

Now they're doing it to soccer moms.

John Searle asks the class to go home and try to think of another kind of speech act besides the 21 (or something) listed.

I have one. Mansplaining.

It's a philosophical style that makes you useless, for example in Signature Event Context, a debate with Derrida.

Cavell, on the debate ("What Did Derrida Want from Austin?"), took issue with Derrida, namely that he had misunderstood Austin completely, but mentioned that Searle was completely out of the debate in any case.

Searle didn't get Wittgenstein either, considering him a little dreamy, when Wittgenstein was outlining the simultaneous argument against yourself that philosophy needed.

Tony Oranto is following the exact same pattern as the FBI and DoJ agents. Retiring to move them out of bounds to the IG.

Are you saying that is proof they are guilty.

tim in vermont said...

So Thibault’s departure from the FBI conveniently put him out of reach of the IG.

The last couple minutes of Burn After Reading where the fixer comes in seems more and more authentic as time passes. Thibault will get a cushy sinecure somewhere, the rotten to the core FBI takes care of DNC operatives embedded their, who go way beyond the senior staff.

Why did Ron Desantis pull out of the Lee Zeldin fundraiser?

Despite Officer Perez passing away eight days earlier, apparently, Governor DeSantis was unaware of the Monday funeral plans when he flew the governor’s jet to New Jersey to meet with billionaire real estate mogul Joseph ‘Jay’ Cayre on Sunday, forcing him to cancel the Zeldin fundraiser a few hours later in New York, or so the story is told.

However, the background looks really bad. Billionaire Joseph Cayre of Midtown Equities just gave New York Governor Kathy Hochul “more than” $400,000 for her campaign against Lee Zeldin, right before DeSantis showed up. [LINK]

Ron DeSantis flies to New Jersey/ New York on Sunday, meets with billionaire developer Joseph Cyre, who just donated $400k+ to Democrat candidate Kathy Hochul. Immediately following the meeting, DeSantis cancels the fundraiser with Hochul’s opponent, Republican Lee Zeldin, and returns to Florida. Apply Occam’s Razor here.

"I’m certainly enjoying the trajectory of the Mar-a-Lago raid!"

Media reporting that the Washington DC special agent in charge FBI guy who kiboshed the investigation into Hunter Biden's laptop has "resigned." Tim Thibault allegedly resigned according to FBI leaks to their "friendly" media co-conspirators, otherwise known as "reporters."

Scott Johnson over at Powerline notes that the FBI is a deeply corrupt agency. And he's right.

How corrupt are they? The FBI just leaked that he has resigned to get the media to back off. But he didn't resign. He's just been transferred. He's still employed by the FBI, still getting our tax dollars as payment for his corruption. Still due a 7-figure pension. The trick will work too. Watch how fast the media drops this story.

That's how corrupt your FBI is.

The Hopeless gadfly does what Hopeless gadfly's do when his/her/xer's most recent hoaxed up conspiracy lies are exposed and debunked: try and make up in volume that which never existed in truth.

It actually started in earnest yesterday in the media and elsewhere where the leading hoaxed up liars, to be followed by the dumber ones such as our Hopeless gadfly, recognized the unraveling of their latest hoaxed up lie and shifted back to reciting litany's of the previously debunked hoaxed up lies with an increase in BadOrangeMan insults.

In the world of lefty The Hopeless gadfly and those that tell gadfly what to think and say, anyone who does not happily advance the latest political needs of the New Soviet Democratical Party is absolutely guilty. Politically guilty.

Recall the scene from Dr Zhivago where the General explains to Zhivago that it didnt matter what men did in the war, they would still be judged politically.

This is what all leftists and NeverTrump-AlwaysDemocraticals and GOPe-ers (but I repeat myself) instinctively do. Which is how "True Conservatives" end up opposing the most conservative agenda in 3 generations simply because of orange hair.

Desantis is acting just like Ted Cruz did and it started happening after he hired the Cruz 2016 campaign team.

Cruz talks a good game. Never crosses the people who give him money. Senator Cruz never actually does anything. Remember who Ted Cruz's wife works for.

All of the wrong people are giving Desantis money right now.

It is clear that this is all about class and the wealthy are all in on stopping Trump because he represents the working class.

Desantis stuck it to Disney. He deserves some credit there. But he is starting to do slimy shit like Cruz did in 2016 and I think that is all about his current handlers.

The working class will not turn out for Desantis at this point and the people that are funding him know he will probably lose to whatever democrat is nominated in 2024.
