"Former President Donald Trump’s pick to unseat Rep. Liz Cheney in the race for Wyoming’s lone House seat holds a commanding 22-point lead with a month until the primary..."

"... a new Casper Star-Tribune poll shows. Natural resources attorney Harriet Hageman leads Cheney 52% to 30%, the poll shows.... In past elections, Cheney has handily beat her primary opponent. And given that Wyoming is one of the nation’s most conservative states, the Republican House nominee often coasts to victory in the general election. But the Wyoming Republican Party has turned on Cheney, censuring her soon after Trump’s impeachment and voting last fall to no longer recognize her as a member of the GOP...."

Imagine if the incumbent in one of the most left districts had voted to impeach Barack Obama and was constantly talking about how awful he was. Then Obama picks a loyalist to run against her in the primary. I wonder how different the coverage would be. I'm guessing there wouldn't be a lot of talk about how courageous she was.

Dems are hoping to prop her up by crossing over to vote in the Republican primary, but I doubt more than a handful of fringe activists care enough to do it. Cheney hitched her wagon to the wrong star. Good riddance.

Winning a primary is meaningless. The goal is to win general elections. I thought Trump was a great President but if his picks win primaries but lose in the general elections he will be personally responsible for losing a once in a generation opportunity for the Rs to meaningfully turn back the left tide. He can do more for us as an influential elder statesman keeping us on course than an overly active and combative participant.

Candidly, Obama has done more damage behind the scenes in the last year than as President. He’s been more influential, of course for the negative. Trump can use the same playbook for the positive.

Never figured Why she thought she'd Represent wyoming (other than that she could get elected).

She's NOT From Wyoming, she's from Northern Virginia (born in Madison Wisconsin)
Dick Cheney was born in Lincoln Neb, and Lived in Texas.. He had to move to Wyoming
A few months before the election Cheney put his home in Dallas up for sale and changed his drivers' license and voter registration back to Wyoming. This change was necessary to allow Texas' presidential electors to vote for both Bush and Cheney
When he didn't live in Texas, Dick lived in Washington DC. Lizard Cheney has NEVER lived Anywhere besides Northern Virginia.

You know who Wyoming people like? Alan Simpson. Want to know Why? Alan Simpson is a Direct descendant of Finn Burnett (Alan is Finn's great grandson). Do you know who Finn Burnett is? You should

I received a fund raising email from Cheney. My response was to unsubscribe immediately. Lizzie represents the worst in Republicans: she's a Stockholm Syndrome Republican. She's wants good press coverage from the Democrat media. They love her and says she's the future of the Republican Party. She'll support Democrat agendas to get that good coverage. But, the vast majority of Republicans are revolted by her actions and support of Democrats. She's toast.

Hasta la vista, Lizzie!

She'll land a nice job on MSNBC or CNN. And some 'expert' political roles on the side.

She should move to New York and run for Senate. I've seen it done once before.

" the Wyoming Republican Party has turned on Cheney," LOL I wonder what crisis will allow mail in ballots to resolve this pesky problem with the one true Republican running.

I have seen it done twice: there was Hillary, of course, but how about that RFK?

I guess that NY talent pool is surprisingly shallow and they need these outsiders to come in and take the Senate slots.

She’s hitched her wagon to a Big Lie herself. No one cares about J6 when we have other humongous issues raging. Sad.

The burning question is, who was polled? If only Republican voters were polled, then what about the Cheney strategy, visible on her campaign website, providing instructions to Democrat voters on how to switch temporarily to Republican in order to vote for Cheney in the primary - something that is legal in the state. Were they included in the polling?

The Democrats have realized that the primaries are the place to win. A candidate can only win in a general election if they appear on the ballot in the first place, and they have a great chance of winning if they are the only candidate representing the party. Democrats have been doing it in NYC for decades, arranging primary winners - and this November is going to be a Party-affiliation-type election. A small number of voters decide the primaries. Small numbers are easier to manage.

Take a careful look at the Secretary of State primary just conducted in Colorado. A polling lead of 20% evaporated for a well-known Republican candidate running a traditional campaign, and suddenly a complete unknown, someone new to politics that did not campaign, someone who works for Mark Zuckerberg - they were the winner instead.

TDS is a powerful drug. But focus on the "D" for derangement. Liz has it in spades. Not someone I'd vote for.

And one of two "R's: hand picked by Pelosi to be on the J^ committee. Why? Because Pelosi, rightly, concluded Liz would not object to withholding evidence and would exhibit extreme bias.

Not someone I'd vote for.

Then Liz came out as clearly pro-life. Not someone rabid "D's" would cross over for.

You'd think that participating in the J6 Dem show trial would be too much even for a RINO deluded by undue self-regard. But no: shameless Lizzie goes along eagerly.

Fortunately, "our democracy" can still send a message every once in a while. In this case: FU.

Simpson was also a second generation politician, and now belongs more to the Bush-Cheney wing of the party than to Trump's. Biden gave him a medal last week. Liz was there. Alan is backing her. He does have more of a personality than Liz, but the curmudgeon thing cuts both ways. The politician who can be salty-tongued and wryly sardonic about Washington can direct his cynicism more towards the voters than to his colleagues.

They HATE the people who once supported them, and then got sick of the grift.

So...they all decided to betray them, and in Liz Cheney’s case, go after and punish them.

How dare you abandon us!

Her dad is a fucking war criminal and her fat ugly ass sits in congress because she’s his spawn. They live and prosper off of war blood money. Donald Trump was not tied to that cabal of blood thirsty grifters and would have eventually gotten around to them (A guy can dream) She’s done all of this out of fear. Probably 75 percent of the federally elected officials and at least half of the over bloated workforce in DC should hang or be in prisons. I don’t ever want a career politician as president again.

She came out clearly, but she chose to sit on the sidelines and not vote on the so-called “Ensuring Access to Abortion Act” Nancy threw out for a vote. She didn't want to offend the Democrats who are planning on voting for her in the primaries.

He's the most liberal person elected in wyoming in the last 40 years. He also would have a Hard time getting elected there now. Even Finn Burnett can only do so much (Which is why Alan's son got voted out of the statehouse in 2010)

Cheney's obsession with Trump means that she isn't focused on the mess we are in now. Democrats are donating to Cheney to keep the distraction going.

Pete Buttigieg has changed his voter registration from Indiana to Michigan, a state that's friendlier to Democrats. I expected him to become a college professor or president and then run for Congress from an Easy or West Coast state. This could be a sign that he has more immediate plans. It also could be a sign that auto companies and unions aren't wedded to petroleum and internal combustion any more.

I live in Cheyenne, WY. Have for 8 years and, to my knowledge, Liz has never even made a single appearance in the city in all that time. True story: My husband was at the Republican Headquarters asking for a full list of candidates for all offices for the upcoming primary. A woman came in and asked for a Cheyney sign for her lawn. The woman in charge said "they don't talk to us." I wouldn't vote for Liz to pick up my dog's poop.

Mike of Snoqualmie said...

Lizzie's strategy of getting D's to voter for her runs aground on one inconvenient fact: D's make up only 15% of Wyoming's electorate.

Probably has something to do with Trump saying the Iraq War was a mistake. I supported it at the time but now agree it was a mistake. She will not forgive that as her father (who I have admired for years) was probably responsible for it. It was a mistake, admit it and move on. She can't do that.
