"In the early 1970s, Burton preached that members needed to immerse themselves in high art, such as opera and literature, in order to get rid of negative thinking.”

"He relied on ‘44 Angels’ — who included the spirits of historical figures such as William Shakespeare, Benjamin Franklin and Italian poet Dante Alighieri — to lead him in enlightenment."

From "Inside the ‘love fest’ cult that’s allegedly infiltrated Google headquarters" (NY Post)("Google has been infiltrated by a 'destructive' California cult led by a 'pedophilic' leader, according to a lawsuit").

I guess Tulsi Gabbard's cult leader is Butler? For a while, some years ago, my brother and sister-in-law were trying to follow Marianne Williamson's "Course in Miracles." They eventually dropped this, and it was weird to me when Marianne ran for President.

Without my glasses, I read that as "In the early 1970s, Burton preached that miners needed to immerse themselves in high art, such as opera and literature, in order to get rid of negative thinking," a far more interesting and productive concept.

It seems like Google and other tech firms have competing cults, depending upon the department. There is the cult mentioned in the article, there are the various LGBT cults, BLM cults, Bernie/socialist cults ad infinitum. I remember reading a few years ago about a group at, I think Facebook, who identified as animals.

These companies must make so much money that the actually owners, represented in theory by a board, must not care about whether the employees actually work and care about job performance. I almost long for a recession like 2001 that was specific to the IT and Internet world to bring some sanity into the business model to stop the bleeding of the Tech corporate culture into the rest of the world.

On the other hand, you can't have better models than Shakespeare, Ben Franklin and Dante. Take out the creepy sex part and this just sounds like a pretty standard arts appreciation club.. Maybe that's all it is but since it's composed of culturally conservative white people who appreciate art produced by dead white males they have to demonize it somehow?

This week I stopped reading the daily news (except Althouse) and instead read stories from The Decameron. It helped get rid of negative thinking and contributed to peace of mind.
