"Russia wants to turn Ukrainians into silent slaves..... They steal everything from food to gold earrings they just rip out with blood."

"We are dealing with a state that turns the right of veto in the UN Security Council into a right to kill. Which undermines the whole architecture of global security. Which allows evil to go unpunished and spread the world. Destroying everything that can work for peace and security. If this continues, the finale will be that each state will rely only on the power of arms to ensure its security, not on international law, not on international institutions. Then, the UN can simply be dissolved. Ladies and Gentlemen! Are you ready for the dissolving of the UN? Do you think that the time of international law has passed? If your answer is no, you need to act now, act immediately... If you do not know how to adopt this decision, you can do two things. Remove Russia as an aggressor and a source of war from blocking decisions about its own aggression, its own war. And then do everything that can establish peace. Or show how you can reformat and really work for peace. Or if your current format is unalterable and there is simply no way out, then the only option would be to dissolve yourself altogether."

From the official translation of Zelensky's speech yesterday to the UN Security Council.

ADDED: Here's the WaPo article on the subject, including the response from Russian U.N. ambassador:

“We place on your conscience the ungrounded accusations against the Russian military, which are not confirmed by any eyewitnesses.”

Russia’s goal in Ukraine, he said, was “not to conquer lands” but to bring “peace to the blood-soaked land of Donbas,” the largely Russian-speaking eastern Ukrainian region where Russian troops and mercenaries have been fighting Ukrainian forces since 2014. “We need to root out the cruelty, cut out the malignant Nazi tumor,” Nebenzya said. “We will achieve that goal.”

Calling out the ineffectiveness of the UN is downright Trumpian.

For video of what the Donbas looked like a year before the war started, look at this 35 minute video. This guy (Bald & Bankrupt) has traveled all over in the former USSR.

Most of the world elites hate the US, even in the Obama years, it was there but they loved him personally as a celebrity. It’s like the US elites hate Trump. They think that there is no down side, but we have seen the downside with Beiden. Like a socialized high school girl selecting boys for dates, they don’t always go for substance, they go for appearance. “I like the growing economy, low inflation, energy security and peace prospects in the Middle East, no wars, but he is not cool and seems to lack the forms of classyness. Let’s get someone we think is cool and we will have it all, because peace and economic security can’t be too hard if Trump can do it.

Go watch French documentarian Anne Laure Bonnet’s 2016 project called Donbass: 8 Years of War.
She presents the devastation of the Russian-speaking region by the Ukrainian government.

Now, this STARTED in 2014 after the American-assisted Maidan uprising with Victoria Nuland front and center (Look her up. She’s still up to her ears in this mess).

Perhaps, just perhaps, the Ukrainians aren’t “good guys” here.

Unfortunately for Russia, the accusation of "nazi" has been worn to near-transparent threads of meaninglessness by their fellow travelers in the west.
Some can only pretend to care. Nobody actually believes.

Laurel- While I agree that there are no good guys, it's still Russian tanks and soldiers on Ukrainian soil and it appears that these atrocities and civilian murders are real. Conflict is not always good vs. bad. It can be bad vs. less bad. There is more of a chance that, in 10 years, Ukraine will be a semi-normalized governable country that Russia, I think.

A long time ago. Get US out of the UN, and the UN out of the US.

The bloodshed in the Donbas, mr ambassador, that your "little green" men fomented in the first place.

Yes please dissolve the UN. I've always wanted to see a smaller democracies/values coalition rather than the mess that is the UN. Include US, UK, Canada, Australia, Israel, Japan, NZ and maybe South Korea. Churchill's English speaking union with a select group of others. Democracies who have shown an understanding that it's a rough world and who will spend money on defense.

Though now that I look at that list, not sure about Canada now nor NZ. It's a sadly small group. Is there anything that the UN actually does well, I mean other than having "peacekeepers" raping women?

That's going where it hurts. If you don't support me, you could lose your phony baloney jobs.

Can blood rip things out?

But I do agree about disbanding the UN.

If not, make the other world leaches 'pay their fair share.'

That is why invading Ukraine as a whole was a bad move.

Invading Donbas and Luhansk had some justification. The Ukrainians were committing genocide there.

Invading the rest of Ukraine was a massive blunder in addition to being evil.

Really all governments involved in this are greedy shitheads that are hurting their own people.

If they separated the Russian parts from the Ukrainian parts this would be true.

As it currently stands I think we will see a long term occupation of those two states by Russia.

Eventually Biden will start a war over it to liberate the Russian ethnic provinces from the russians.

Everyone involved is unpopular with their own people. They all need this war to hide failures at home.

The original UN theory-- the Security Council of big, responsible countries would ride herd on the troublemakers--was fine in the afterglow of victory.

But there's always a catch.

In 1939, Poland wasn't a very democratic country, to say the least, and had recently snatched a bit of Czechia. But stuff like that pales into insignificance next to Blitzkrieg from three sides by a much larger country.

Blitzkrieg. But sometimes there's a catch.

This will turn the world into two competing blocks.

The US and Europe and China/India/Russia.

I wonder who Japan and Australia and indonesia will choose.

Well, those are certainly the Russian government's lines. Thanks for sharing.

Those who swallow propaganda whole are not as smart as they think they are.

Atrocities committed at behest of Kiev rulers in Donbas over the pat 8 years are well documented and substantiated. Even Kiev junta does not deny them; they only justify them along the lines, “those non-humans got what they deserved”.
