"I was... not the right kind of 'queer.' I was just another 'cis'... gay male—in other words, a privileged and unevolved relic of the past."

"After all, I had my rights—the right to marry, the right to serve openly in the military, the right to assimilate into this oppressive, 'cisheteronormative,' patriarchal society. It was time to make way for a new generation of 'queer,' one that had very little to do with sex-based rights and more to do with abolishing the concepts of sex and sexuality altogether.... Queer theorists insist that subverting the categorizations which have been imposed upon young people—for example, the sex they were 'assigned' at birth—is the ultimate expression of autonomy, and further, the key to liberating society from a system devised largely, so they claim, by cisgender white men.... Gender-nonconformity, after all, is a very common experience for most of us during childhood. I, for one, was relentlessly bullied in grade school for my femininity... But I have grown up to be a well-adjusted, successful, even masculine man.... [T]oday I am... fearful of the radical activists... who push a regressive, anti-liberal agenda that reifies gender stereotypes, downplays the seriousness of long-term medicalization and ultimately seeks to abolish my identity—for without biological sex, there is no homosexuality. Today, the least-accepting spaces for people like me are, of all places, the halls of LGBT rights organizations, where the threat might not be violence but is nevertheless terrible stigmatization and shame."

Writes Ben Appel in "The New Homophobia" (Newsweek). He is describing his experiences interning with "a major LGBTQ-rights organization" and taking the class "U.S. Lesbian and Gay History" at Columbia University.

Actually biological sex is where you produce a baby... males have a penis and females a vagina kind of thing.

All else is a kind of masturbation.. a mimic of the penis/vagina action.

Not the right kind of queer. Not the right kind of black. Not the right kind of woman.

I'm beginning to think there's a pattern here. It's almost as if essentialism is a shibboleth for something else.

How about just SFTU about your sexual preferences and what you feel like inside. I don't care what it is. And I'm not your psychiatrist.

Hey, I like to sleep with girls. Isn't that interesting! Let's all talk about it. I don't care if you're not interested. Talk about it goddamn it! Shout it out -- you support how I feel. All my kinks and dirty thoughts. They're normal and good. I NEED YOU TO SAY IT!

I feel sorry for people who have such empty lives.

Left wing movements always die from internal divisions and disagreements. The right wing settled on a stable and (often sustainable) system long ago. Traditional gays and lesbians, JK Rowling and the TERF tribe, Tulsi Gabbard, Bill Mahar, etc. stand to flip over as "new conservatives."

Birds do it. Bees do it. Even educated fleas do it. Let's do it.

It wasn't so long ago that the culture wars were fought over multi-culturism, prayer in the schools, illegal aliens, civil unions, flag burning, vaccinations of very young children, the rights of Nazis to march in Skokie IL, blockbusting realtors, affirmative action in college admissions, prohibiting cigarettes in shared spaces, etc.

Will there be a rational end? Not if a generation buys into the idea that the mutual attraction of the two sexes is a bad thing. Welcome to the Junior Anti-sex League!

Oh, wonder! How many goodly creatures are there here! How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world, that has such people in ‘t.

Clearly virtually every mammalian species on earth is worng. Cisheteronormaty is oppressive. We must all be free to get our frea...er...express our gender non-conformity because that is natural and normal just like we see in nature. Only man can think himself into neurotic and unnatural behaviors and call it normal. THe vast majority of us are simple cis-heteros and we should be free to pursue that without being pressured to non-conform. There is a deep chasm between accepting those who truly are non-cis, and ostracizing people who don't find a color on the diversity rainbow. We really have this whole thing upside down. Since when was it good to say being cis was evil when that describes 95% or more of the population?

No, biological sex is sexual intercourse between two or more humans. Period. Baby-making is sometimes the result of biological sex between men and women, but by it is not the the result (or goal) in most acts of sexual intercourse, even between men and women.

Oh, yes! That is what he is saying. Perhaps it would have been clearer if he had used the (dreaded) term "biological gender."

I attended a recent screening of Coda [see it!] sponsored by a university student disabilities organization. An intro was made by someone identifying themselves simply as transgender. I spent a long time trying to figure out what that meant (and what their disability might be; not deafness). Failed. This transgender militancy will fail just as lesbian opposition to the marriage equality movement failed.

PS If Appel studied at Columbia with George Chauncey he is lucky. Brilliant scholar.

I understand that regular male gays are no longer fun, they are stale and white. Lets move on to white girl gays. Then when we are tired of them, black male gays, and then black lesbians. Upon reflection, we can then permute and direct research to white gays who penetrate lesbian white women and black gays who penetrate white or black lesbian women. Each of these finite classes of sexual participants can be considered as a multidimensional graph of set {m X f X g X L} and edges from and to each state.

The classes of data considered above can be countably infinite, so, to make it easier to consider, we truncate all data we don't like and conclude that all gays are good. QED.

Bees do it.

The queen does it for a day or two, once in her life. As far as the drones go, maybe 12 get lucky:

Drones are in for a rude awakening once they’ve finished mating. The queen then pulls away from the drone, ripping out the male reproductive organs and some of his intestines. This kills the drone almost instantly.

I'd rather not do that.

This was predictable, wasn't it? Maybe somebody even predicted it. Like they predicted that someday you would be able to marry your dog, your pencil, or a tree.

Enjoy the postbinary, pansexual, polyamorous future, Ben. You may like to have sex with guys and even marry a guy, and that's fine, but do you really want to let that define your whole life and limit your possibilities?

There are some mighty fine pencils out there, Ben.

As we've been saying on this blog for, what, years?

"the ultimate expression of autonomy, and further, the key to liberating society from a system devised largely, so they claim, by cisgender white men"

Which is what it's all about, autonomous self-definition to undermine the order of order. From a miniskirt protest against a cisgender heteronormative principal to the recategorization of all categories in a few easy decades.

"who push a regressive, anti-liberal agenda that reifies gender stereotypes, downplays the seriousness of long-term medicalization and ultimately seeks to abolish my identity—for without biological sex, there is no homosexuality."

Well put. Now, recognize your actual allies, right here, on the right. You know, the liberal liberals. Or is regressive anti-liberalism still better than deplorability?

But he's ok with straight men being stereotyped as "privileged" and "unevolved"? He just doesn't want to be lumped in with the heteros for being "cis"? Ironic that his straight neighbors are more accepting than the culture warriors who no longer find him useful.

If Lady Ga Ga were to sing "Born This Way" today, she would be ostracized as a TERF.

I'm beautiful in my way
'Cause God makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born this way
Don't hide yourself in regret
Just love yourself, and you're set
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born this way (Born this way)

Don't be a drag, just be a queen
Don't be a drag, just be a queen
Don't be a drag, just be a queen
Don't be (Don't be, don't be)
*********

Or maybe she can bring it back as "Assigned This Way"...?

Accepting a transgender gondolier is the liberal thing to do, that is, a good thing to do. But this ideology is not liberal. It's unsettling to read about it. Columbia University. It's as if our ruling class is developing a collective case of dementia.

First, there was social justice for babies, then women, colored... people of color, and now trans/homosexuals, excluded. But, I'm progressive, as diversity dogmatists (e.g. Some, Select [Black] Lives Matter) invades neighborhoods to intimidate families and residents to take a knee by choice, Choice, or force.

As a person with a PhD in Chemistry, the cis and trans language adopted by the activists of sexuality leave me with giggles. in Chemistry, cis indicates that the functional groups (substituents) are on the same side of some plane, such as on a C=C double bond, while trans conveys that they are on opposing (transverse) sides. The sexual nomenclature reverses that, or at best confuses that, at least as far as I can tell.

Then again, the first crossdressing homosexual stripper/prostitute I had as a friend was in 1977, so perhaps I just haven't kept up with the times.

"abolishing the concepts of sex and sexuality"

What was it that nasty villain Syndrome said in The Incredibles? "When everyone's super... no one will be." Syndrome missed the point of the super heroes - It wasn't their abilities, it was their services to others that were appreciated.

The specific goal of those on the extremes of sexual behavior is to eliminate their status. They should beware of what doing that will mean. Nobody will care about them or what they do any more, at all.

"liberating society" from what? Freedom? individual rights? Wealth? Stability? Happiness?

"cisgender white men". Which is to say, men who were not totally divorced from reality created the best society in human history, and therefore we must destroy it.

I am LOL amused that "gays" are now just another group of "cisgender men". Oh how the victimhood pyramid changes!

Hear that LUGs? Now you're just "cisgender women". Men who decide that they are the "real women" are far higher in the victimhood hierarchy than you are.

HAHAHAHAHAHA
