"Haskins was walking on I-595 between the exits for I-95 North and I-95 South. The highway is eight lanes wide...."

"Haskins tried to cross the westbound lanes of I-595, where there was oncoming traffic. An oncoming dump truck hit him. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities."

From "How did quarterback Dwayne Haskins die on a South Florida highway? Here’s what we know" (Union-Bulletin).

"Haskins tried to cross..." — What he was trying to do isn't one of the things we know.

We know the what part. It's the why part that has us stumped.

Where was Mason Rudolph at the time of the accident? Cui bono.

This is insane. I'm not sure that anyone will ever know. But...I have to say that suicide must surely be under consideration. It may not be the answer, but you don't go walking across the highway in the wee dark hours, into oncoming traffic unless you are confused...or know exactly what you are doing and looking for a specific outcome.

This is very sad.

So, Baker Mayfield goes to Pittsburgh from Cleveland. I'll be more apt to cheer for the Steelers than the Browns,

Haskins. Eric Boehlert. Both inexplicable from initial reports. I hope it isn't what Occom tells me - Demons. The lives of the train engineer and the truck driver have been scarred for life. Sad all the way around. Sad.

The toxicology report will answer all your questions.

So incredibly sad. Had he run out of gas or lost a hubcap?

It's Florida. Drugs were no doubt a contributing factor.

That headline is misleading. The lanes in question are only a few. Then there are jersey walls separating the other lanes, which are all part of an interchange.

Some people have said that he had been in a car that broke down on the way to the airport, but the airport is east of that location, so why was he crossing the westbound lanes? Not to mention that there is nothing to go to in that location. Certainly he had a cell phone with him for assistance.

We will be told a cleaned up version...never the entire story.

The NFL has as much power as Disney...

Suicide seems to be a real possibility.

He was a colossal failure as a first round draft choice and Pittsburgh had him as a third string backup to Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph.

It's not like "Why did the chicken cross the road," because the chicken crossed the road.

But I take your statement to mean the same thing I mean: The known facts don't support the inference that he was trying to cross 4 lanes of interstate highway on foot.

LAST SHARE Dwayne Haskins shared chilling final post about being ‘at peace’ just hours before Steelers star died at 24

The back story probably will not reflect well on Haskins. On the other hand, if anyone publicly speculates on a negative back story, they will be cancelled. Some ninety year old ex-coach said that Haskins had disciplinary problems and did dumb things. The ninety year old ex coach attracted a twitter mob. He has since profusely apologized, not that it will do him any good.
