"Gajda says that she used to be uncomfortable with the idea that courts could balance protections for an individual’s dignity and liberty with protections for a free press and free speech..."

"... as a journalist, she was worried that an overzealous judiciary might curtail the reporting of real news that powerful interests were keen to keep secret. Now she seems to see things differently, placing what seems to me a surprising amount of faith in the judicial branch and even Facebook’s Oversight Board, of all things, to generate norms that balance speech with privacy and 'unite the world as one.'"

From "‘Seek and Hide’ Grapples With the Complexity of the Right to Privacy/The law professor Amy Gajda writes about the tug of war between the right to know and the right to be let alone" — a NYT book review by Jennifer Szalai.

Which of these "protections" are enumerated in the US Constitution?

Interesting that she sees liberty as being in tension with freedom of conscience.

If the end justifies the means...

When the change party (aka left) fought the establishment they wanted free speech.
When the change party became the establishment they fight free speech.

This is the routine playbook of out-of-power totalitarians strategizing for hegemony and dominance. It doesn't matter if you call them Revolutionaries, Freedom Fighters, Patriots, Protestants, Communists, Greens, Woke, or the next flavor of the day.

The king is dead. Long live the king.

This is precisely why the US constitution avoided direct democracy.

The more women in courts, the more anti-speech it will get.

Worst fucking song ever.

And that's a hill I will die on.

It proves that McCartney was the genius in that duo.

Surely this person can't believe the things she says. I suspect her phenomena is like being a salesperson who is told what misleading things to say about a product while claiming that they really believe in the product. She is on a woke leash and doesn't know it.

I wish there was someone really powerful that could lead us to, and bring about a more just and merciful society.

How about God?

No, not that guy!

Humm…… I wonder if Zuckerberg could do it?

It's ironic, rh since most of them can't shut up.

Joe Smith,

Worst fucking song ever.

With you there! Tied for second and third: "Little Boxes" and "We Are the World." But "Imagine" is the all-time winner, no question.
