Here we have the case of Joel Mungo, a public school teacher in Newport News, VA, who is suing one of his students for .... I guess for racism. Is that a cause of action in American courts?

He claims that the 10th-grade student left a banana outside the door to his classroom. Multiple times!

The 'What's happening' sidebar on Twitter is a shitstorm of mind-bogglingly idiotic, intelligence-insulting, leftist fever-dream drivel.

On any given day they really try to outdo themselves to show us just how piously woke they are.

I don't need to be force-fed stories on queerness or trans-ness or black/Hispanic/POC empowerment 24/7.

If they want people to read that garbage, they should at least have a smart enough algorithm that temps me to click on a story.

I think I've clicked on one in the last year.

Even Apple lets me block feeds from the 'NYT' and 'WaPo.'

I feel better now...

You have to go in through the portal, then start and complete your shopping.

Apples just aren't used anymore? Why not just eat the banana? Or take them home and make bread?

So a lot was made about The Light Bringer’s White House visit. And we all know Biden isn’t going to make 4 years. And that no one in the Democrat Party actually wants her as POTUS.

They can’t just 25th amendment Biden away. That puts Pelosi next in line and Kamala can’t appoint a VP since she’s acting President waiting for the President to declare he’s fit for duty. They have to get Biden to resign. Probably with a “bribe “ to Dr. Jill…

So what if they keep him going until the exact 2 year point and he renders his resignation then. The senate is going to flip, no doubts about it. So Kamala takes office- and any VP she appoints needs Republican approval. So, she appoints- The Light Bringer! The RINOs would roll over and ratify him. Then, the hidden part of the deal shows up. Kamala resigns. Leaves a free for all for the Democrat nomination 2024. Kamala will never be the front runner. Her fans and admirers are few and far between. Hillary ends up at the back of the bus. And the Obama wing of the party dominates the candidate selection process.

Just wargaming a scenario based entirely on reactions to his WH visit.

Don't be fooled by all of the stories about the Hunter laptop.

Even CBS and the lefty media is reporting it.

I don't think it's a plot to oust Joe.

It's a plot to cover for Joe just as Mueller was a plot to cover-up for Hillary and the intelligence folks.

They will come out in a few months and say they did a thorough investigation and found that Hunter owes taxes or some such nonsense.

He will get a slap-on-the-wrist fine and some sort of suspended sentence.

The media can then all join hands and forever more say, 'It's an old story. Nothing more to talk about. You're a conspiracy theorist if you think there's more to it.'

That probably happened. As to whether the motivation was racism or just yanking Joel Mungo's chain is a toss up.

The term 'Neocon' gets tossed around here and elsewhere with complete and often reckless abandon. The original, and by strict definition the only proper Neocons were former lefties like the Kristols who began having second thoughts in the 1970s and 80s. Not all of them were New York Jews but they were the principal leaders and ideologists.

Most conservatives are not Neocons because they were never on the Left. I would argue that in a lot of ways the 'con' part is not very helpful. It sets an implicit contrast between (presumably) Liberal or Left politics and its opposite, but insofar as most if not all the Neocons remained Trotskyite in ambition for permanent worldwide revolution, it misleads. Permanent worldwide revolution is NOT a conservative ideal.

Bush and Cheney of course were just a couple of dumb greedy goys to be manipulated when it came to foreign policy, and can not be called Neocons with accuracy.

Con-men, certainly.

Ann earned her money today. She put up 12 posts, all of which offered an opportunity for discussion.

I always like it when she posts anything about Constitutional Law. I didn't jump in on the post because as Ann put it, the issue is handled in the first 25 pages of class.

The Joshua Tree post reminded me that some classmates at Occidental College went out there in the early '70's to drop acid. I passed on that trip.

So if Brown Jackson can be nominated and confirmed in anticipation of an opening on the Supreme Court that does not yet exist, why couldn't any president simply nominate and have confirmed people at any time during his term, even on Day One, and then when an opening does occur, that person just steps into the seat? Even if the opening doesn't happen until the next president?

BBC News:

Russian aluminum producer calls for war crime inquiry

Friday's Financial Times leads with reports that aluminum producer Rusal has become the first Russian group to call for an inquiry into alleged war crimes in Ukraine.

Ukraine says more than 300 civilians were killed by the Russians in Bucha, although Moscow denies any involvement.

Unlike a number of other Russian companies, Rusal is not the target of sanctions, although its billionaire founder Oleg Deripaska is.

The war in Ukraine and the backlash against it have also wreaked havoc on Rusal's supply chains.

In a statement on Wednesday, it wrote that it was shocked by reports from the city of Bucha in recent days.

"We support an objective and impartial investigation of this crime and call for severe punishment for the perpetrators. No matter how hard it may seem in the context of ongoing information war," it said.

The company also called for "an early peaceful resolution of this conflict, to preserve priceless human lives and return to normalcy."

https://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-europe-61032786

Safe prediction: Whoever in Rusal either wrote or approved this statement will soon be fired.

Also, from Sky News:

In a wide-ranging interview with Sky News, Dmitry Peskov denied atrocities had taken place, said NATO was confrontational, accused Boris Johnson of not being "constructive" and said Russia is trying to bring the war to an end soon. [Except that it isn't a war but an Orwellian "Special Operation"].

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov tells Sky News: "We have significant losses of troops and it's a huge tragedy for us"

The 41-second clip of Peskov's acknowledgment also included the assertion that Russian troops were withdrawn from the Kyiv region "as an act of goodwill".

Which is, of course, a blatantly obvious contradiction.

Shouting Thomas made a point earlier about churches- the converged churches have empty pews. My own observation is that fire and brimstone preachers among the Protestants are the preachers with the healthiest and youngest congregants, the ones with kids. In the Catholic Church around here there are older Catholics like my wife who attend mass weekly- holiday Catholics who show up for mass on Easter and Christmas, and nominal Catholics who have (usually) grandmothers who made sure they were baptized in the Church and know they're Catholic- but they know no theology at all. I remember a lunch table discussion where several of us explained to one of them the Virgin Birth and what the Holy Trinity was. The Virgin Birth bit blew her mind...

One of my sons moved cross country and went from on RC Church that said the mass in Latin to another. Both have- young healthy congregations with parents with young children. Both sponsor Trail Life Troops instead of Scouts USA troops- much to my disappointment as a Scouts USA leader. All 4 of my sons were in Scouts until age 18, 2 Eagles, 2 Life Scouts. Kind of odd, don't you think, that Churches with Latin mass are attracting the younger? I don't think so- it's the Catholic version of Fire and Brimstone...

And then, even among those, where were the Christian Churches during the covidiocy? Hiding. Almost all of them. I believe I read of one or maybe even two that ignored lockdown orders. The Church (as in the Body of Christ made of all followers) meets in basements and in secret throughout the totalitarian world. But here in the free USA- first amendment and all- they cower before the power of the state. There's not a Right Reverend John Peter Gabriel Muhlenberg among church leaders today, also known by the end of the Revolution as Major General John Peter Gabriel Muhlenberg. I'm certain he would have had something to say about lockdown orders that said the Body of Christ wasn't allowed to gather and worship, and it would not have been "We will comply for the powers that be have decreed it for the greater good." If you've herd the story, he was the preacher who read from Ecclesiastes, dropped his robes to reveal his unform, walked outside the church building, then enlisted the men in his congregation into the militia, and marched them off to war. Nope, not many churchmen like that today. Seems to be many pastors today forget that along with preaching love thy neighbor, Jesus the Christ also overturned tables and went after people with whips. The King James Version of the passages:
To Everything There is a Season

1To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

2A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

3A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

4A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

5A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

6A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

7A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

8A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Jesus the Christ also said: Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. 3 In Christ, there is peace, but the space must sometimes be fought for. The battle against evil never ends. And, evil is often seductive. From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs was not said by Christ. He preached the Parable of the Talents. The parables of Jesus used to be common knowledge, but are no longer such, since teaching the Bible in public schools is forbidden, but not the teaching of the Five Pillars of Islam. (Yes, that is a 100% true statement.) So if you don't know that bit of common knowledge- look it up.

Butkus51 wants to know what we think about dumbing down the teaching of math to provide equity. I am unsure what being Democratic or Republican has to do with an opinion on this subject.

Mathematics is difficult for those whose minds do not understand the required rule structure needed to excel in the subject. So I have always thought that the five basic branches - Algebra, Number Theory, Arithmetic and Geometry - are useful for daily living but advanced math such as Trigonometry, Calculus and Statistics requires that certain mind discipline.

Its like playing chess or checkers. If you are an accomplished chess player you have the mind training needed for tackling advanced math. Checkers has fewer and less complicated rules to learn in order to win. So equity is simply outside of the question.

"A pavilion, or sala, is a common structure in Thailand generally used as a shelter from rain and heat. Olbrich's pavilion is more ornate than most roadside salas in Thailand and represents those found at a temple or on a palace grounds. However, Olbrich's pavilion is not a religious structure. The pavilion was a gift to the University of Wisconsin-Madison from the Thai Government and the Thai Chapter of the Wisconsin Alumni Association. UW-Madison has one of the largest Thai student populations of any U.S. college or university.... The pavilion was built in Thailand, then disassembled and packed in shipping crates. The pavilion traveled seven weeks by sea, then by rail to Chicago, and to Madison by truck. Nine Thai artisans traveled to Madison to reassemble the pavilion after building it in Thailand. It took three weeks to reconstruct. Amazingly, the pavilion is able to withstand the winter weather of Wisconsin with no protection because it is constructed of plantation-grown teak and weather-resistant ceramic roof tiles. The gold leaf, however, is delicate and not able to withstand the oils of the human hand."
