gadfly said...: BPR reports that it has long been believed by European leaders that Russia is using a disinformation campaign in connection with private environmental groups to discourage fracking so that countries will be forced to turn to them for oil. Russia, as part of their sophisticated information and disinformation operations, engaged actively with environmental organizations working against shale gas to maintain European dependence on imported Russian gas.

The Russians have weaponized energy by actually funding some of the most rabid environmental groups in Europe because they can sic them on the energy projects that aren’t Russian. As a result, Scotland, Bulgaria, and The Netherlands have all banned fracking and other EU countries are not pursuing shale energy development.

Unfortunately, American environmentalists are also being similarly misdirected. New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware, adjacent to the fossil fuel-producing Marcellus shale basin have banned fracking. Vermont, Maryland and Washington have also done so but these states have little, if any, shale deposits.; 3/16/22, 3:45 AM

A Bronx apartment complex where 17 were killed during a blaze in January was due for an inspection that never took place because fire officials were diverted to a COVID task force to ensure restaurants followed pandemic guidelines.

The building was scheduled for inspection, but 90 out of 450 New York fire inspectors (20%) were reassigned to enforce DeBlasio’s COVID rules in restaurants. Presumably the inspection, had it taken place, would have uncovered the issues with malfunctioning doors that turned a space heater fire into a major blaze that killed 17 people (including 8 children) and injured an additional 60.; 3/16/22, 7:09 AM

Given that Russia is only a gas station with a military, one should expect such devious behavior from them. It makes me wonder how anyone can believe that Trump was under their influence, given that his oil-related actions as POTUS were in direct opposition to their primary interests.; 3/16/22, 8:21 AM

Naughty of me, but I like to laugh at the foolishness of the “woke.” For the record, I don’t regard either person as a true woman — as I have often written, they are men who are imitating a man’s impression of what it is like to be a woman. Out of an estimated 138 million US men, there might be a dozen or two that really understand what it means to be a woman. I doubt that Lia Thomas or Rachel Levine are among them.
