"Searching for a strategy to avoid a 2022 midterm disaster, advisers to President Biden have discussed elevating a unifying Republican foil not named Donald Trump...."

"Biden confidants worry that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is too unknown, that Biden won't demonize Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell because of their longstanding and collegial relationship and that elevating Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis could backfire.... [S]ome Biden advisers are reluctant to contest every midterm race on DeSantis' signature issue — COVID-19 — because the Biden administration's approaches on vaccine and mask mandates may be a political liability with some swing voters.... [T]here's close to a consensus that Democrats can't hold Congress by focusing on Trump.... Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) told Axios: 'I wish that we could just find one face that we could point to, such as with Donald Trump... maybe a composite.'"

Axios analyzes.

Here's the TV Tropes article on "composite characters."

Certain media, including Real Life, tend to have the time and space to utilize Loads and Loads of Characters, a large number of individuals with significant and/or necessary contributions to the storyline. But in an adaptation it can be difficult to offer adequate time and space.... A solution is to invoke artistic license and compress two or more such figures into a single character with traits drawn from all of them.... Instead of having three different smart guys on the team divided up into distinct fields, you make one of them an Omnidisciplinary Scientist and discard the others....

I don't know how well that will transfer into political discourse, but here's something about "Dilbert":

Dilbert revived LOUD HOWARD, a character who'd proved quite popular with readers of the strip but who the author thought was too flat to make much use of. To make him more interesting, the show merged him with Nervous Ted and had him shout constantly about trivial worries.

How many Republicans would you have to merge into a composite character as useful to demonize as Donald Trump?

They will have to find a Congress critter who is easy to demonize, as a stand-in for all Republicans, regardless of the poor scapegoat's relative importance in the power hierarchy in the Legislative Branch. Then the Two Minutes Hate will be repeated ad nauseum. How deplorable.

I'd suggest cherry picking some quotes from Mitt Romney, Lindsey graham, Senator Cotton of Arkansas, and MTG, and mashing them all together. Social Conservatism from MTG, "Let them eat cake" quotes from Mittens, and Cotton and Graham quotes for warmongering Neo-connery. And then throw in some lies about some Republican supporting "white supremacy" or some such nonsense. Libtards always love it when their opponents are called Nazis.

What a brilliant plan, but it needs fleshing out! I know, let's get Morning Joe to have the chosen foil on as often as possible during the primaries and have CNN and the rest of the mainstream media constantly boost that person, but only until the Republican convention. Then, after the foil has the nomination locked up, work like the devil to get the snot off your fingers before the general election. That approach worked great for the Democrats using Trump as the foil in 2016! Oh wait! MSNBC and CNN actually had viewers to influence in 2016 and couldn't make it work. Why should they do any better when all their anchors are only seen on milk cartons? Still, could the Dems do any better by actually running on their agenda? Talk about snot on the fingers! I suspect they're fucked no matter what they do, and it sure looks like they suspect it too.

I think Biden is gone shortly after the State of the Union. The goal is to play up the notion that the admin is in chaos and beset by incompetence, so that people will welcome a new Harris admin.

Like I said yesterday, the Democrats have not had a new idea in over 50 years. They are as they have been for the last century- looking for one person to demonize and tell their followers that that person over there-That One!- wants to remove social security from your grandmama, take school lunch away from your kids, and take away their health care options. They want to cut taxes for the rich, and destroy the environment by drilling for oil. And they want to take all Black people, gay people, and Portlandians and throw them all on a barge headed for Cyprus.

Tell me when you've heard this before.

They don't have an ounce of self-awareness. Not an inkling at all that maybe, just maybe some of their ideas are not right? I mean, they don't even consider that their ideas are not only incorrect, but disastrous for everyone outside of Government and Big Tech companies.

In this way they are exactly like today's media hacks- our Journalists!, who like to ponder out loud the mystery of why people don't trust or like them anymore. Usually coming up with the same answer: Trump voters. Racists!

Yes, interview Sen. Mazie Hirono for comments on the big picture ideas and listen to her answer: We need a boogie man. Fuck the ideas. We don't need no stinkin' ideas. We just need a new boogie man.

Such is the state of our elected officials. I'll say again: there should not be another Democrat elected for two generations. It'll take at least that long to clean out the mess and create a worthwhile Party. At least something you can listen to without regurgitating.

Consider this.

1) The public is growing increasingly alarmed by economic conditions.
2) There is considerable anger (on both left and right) with the government mishandling of COVID
3) Issues around fairness and justice continue are still very contentious.
4) The Democratic Party holds both branches on Capitol Hill as well as the White House

Not even then. Hillary lost to a New York real estate developer and reality TV star with no experience in politics. Instead of focusing on why Americans hate them so much that they would put such a man in office, the political class spent all their energy trying to bring him down. Not once did they stop and think that Trump was a symptom of a growing resentment to their unaccountability and incompetence. Nope, it was those evil deplorables (or as one poster here likes to say "you people") and their xenophobia that put him in office. So I give Hirono props for a smidgeon of creativity.

I am deeply frustrated by the repeated Democrat claim that the Trump tax cuts increased the deficit. They did not. Revenue collected by the IRS went steadily higher after the tax cuts, it never went down. The deficit did increase, but that's because spending increased even faster than the increase in tax revenue. What's more, economic growth after the tax cut was higher than projected--whether the tax cuts deserve the credit is a separate question. What else is more is that the Trump tax cuts made the income tax more progressive, not less so, primarily with the cap on the SALT deduction. The share paid at the top increased, as did the absolute dollars paid, so hardly a tax cut for the rich. Look it up on the IRS website. It's the Democrats who now want to scrap the SALT cap to give an enormous tax break to the rich.

The other truth that the Democrats want to bury is that after the tax cuts and before the Wuhan flu, the unemployment rates among POC were the lowest ever recorded.

"Hovers in the low 40s" is an interesting way of saying "hovers around 40 +-" Whatever you do, avoid the truth if it makes us look bad, is their motto, I guess.

Some White House officials are optimistic that Biden's numbers may creep slightly upwards if the omicron variant is, indeed, the last wave of COVID-19. But it's not clear such a boost would come soon enough or be powerful enough.

Oddly enough, this is exactly what conservatives have been saying since the numbers came out of South Africa in mid-December, and then the UK, and it was dismissed as "dangerous misinformation."

only thing that will save Democrats now is the overturning of Roe v Wade

Setting the standard of viability for the beginning of life to match the end of life.

In the meantime, it's Roe, Roe, Roe your parent/hood... down the river Styx for social, clinical, redistributive, and fair weather causes.

1: Dr. Jill is not going to give up being "1st Lady" and power behind the throne
2: If they get rid of Biden, then Harris becomes President, there's no VP, and until the GOP votes in a new VP the Dems have no Senate Majority. Which means they lose all legislative power

They are going to flail and scream, and otherwise accomplish nothing of a positive nature

1: She may not want to give it up, but if the party as a whole is screaming behind closed doors that Biden has to go, she won't be able to stop it.

2: They're already on track to lose the Senate Majority, which would render Harris useless. If they wait until after the midterms for Biden to step down, she would be a caretaker president and likely face a primary challenger in 2024. Her best bet is to take the reins prior to the midterms, when the Dems might be able to peel off a GOP vote or two for new appointees and to push some sort of legislation through that she can run on in 2024.

I am astounded at how deeply incompetent Biden and the Democrats are at politics these days — it’s not just that Biden appears to have learned nothing in his fifty years in Washington; it’s that every action Democrats take appears to have been crafted by a diabolical enemy leading them to their destruction.

"The best way to understand any organization is to assume it is controlled by a cabal of its enemies."

The problem for the Dems is that the long-term goals of the party require actions which are at odds with those actions required to achieve the short-term goals if the party leadership. The smart move would be to focus on opposing illegal immigration, imposing tariffs, and protecting the rights of parents and small businesses. This would appeal to the large blue-collar conservative voting bloc that used to be the Dem base. The problem is that such a move would piss off the progressive activists who make up the current Dem base, and who are burrowed in deep in Dem fundraising and campaigns. Any leader who doesn't toe the woke line gets destroyed by the left.

It's the lefts go to move. I believe Obama was a pioneer in one his books with a "composite" girlfriend. Was she white? Asian? Maybe both. Not black.

Based upon my Facebook feed, I'm pretty sure that Marjorie "Gazpacho" Taylor Greene is currently the designated "typical Republican". A day doesn't go by that I don't see 1 or 2 posts about her.

Dems have Mazie, GOP has MTJ.

Please listen to Hirono. She is by far the dumbest person ever elected to high office in this country, and it's not even close.<

Phi Beta Kappa does not induct dumb people into its membership. It would have been very strange for them to have made an exception for Mazie Hirono.

You might even think that all of this is intentional.

Find out that this has been going on for years, at jbs.org

Far be it from me to provide advice to the enemy but they may consider turning away from their busy body impulses and leave the american people the fuck alone for a few years. That would be a huge improvement over what they are currently doing. I don't think this country can stand many more months of their "help". Everything they and Biden touch turns to shit so they may start there.

Oh, and send Hirono to Ann Arbor, so she can learn how to spell “Maize.”

Why hasn't it occurred to the Democrats to run on a positive platform about solid steps they want to take to improve the nation?

Biden's strategy is to get into a muddle in the Ukraine.. and somehow claim victory.

But as Obama said, "Don't underestimate Joe's ability to fuck things up". You can add Harris to that to.

Trump is unique. They'll go with Trump.

They tried that in VA

They got swept Statewide, and lost control of the VA House, with a 12 pt shift to the GOP from 2020.

So I sure hope they do that

Vax Mandates Remain After Four Republican Senators Skip Senate Vote

1: The 4 stayed away because if teh Senate passed a different bill than the House, the gov't would have shut down, since the House was on vacation
2: The 4 assholes are Senators Mitt Romney (R-UT), Jim Inhofe (R-OK), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and Richard Burr (R-NC)

The only thing that will save Democrats now is the overturning of Roe v Wade. Fortunately for Dems it appears the Supremes are willing to do their part.

Which is then followed by most States NOT banning abortion at least until the end of the 1st trimester.

At which point the big Roe freakout becomes a bust

most everybody has already said the obvious. Running on agenda items expose the Democrat lie.
Democrat Party policies have been exposed.
In a nut shell, their policy is to pander to the separate classes Dems invented, telling them they are 'less' and need protection and special $help$, Woman? You just can't do it, dems are your only way to be successful, can't do it on your own. Blacks? Dems have been helping you f 60or years, which is why dems are redoubling their $eforts$ to remove barriers, like merit based testing, and other measures of achievement. You cant achieve and that's where the Dems step in to correct that.
Gays, illegal aliens, chicks with dicks, $democrats$ are your solution, Self reliance is a ruse.

In short the Democrat Party is one part.Spend massive amount of other peoples $money$. Claim that $$money is going to $help$. While at the same time skimming off the $vigorish$ for themselves and their families growing $wealth$ off the backs of the oppressed.

Oh, I almost forgot, the Dems are about the money they can pocket and the power they can amass.
