I hope Spotify caves and Rogan moves to Rumble.

Spotify bowing to the mob and then dying for it would be a good outcome.

Rumble would become a competitor to youtube overnight.

Gettr is already replacing twitter.

Facebook is dying the death it deserves to die.

Business models based on abusing your customers instead of providing them what they want need to be destroyed.

He wins no matter what. If Spotify doesn't want him Rumble does. He has more listeners than all of the msm combined. He calls the shots.

Driving around I have time to think about stuff. I came to what I might say neat realization today with the help of an incidental video I watched last night. Noam Chomsky explained how words can be used to mean both, their traditional meaning AND it’s opposite.

https://youtu.be/CLqCx95ed20

“Misinformation” is like the nword now.
Only blacks can use the nword/and its opposite = nword.
Only health authorities can dole out information/misinformation.

The idea hit me when asking when is someone going to point to the “misinformation” in Joe Rogan podcasts?
The answer is; Joe Rogan used the nword. Misinformation is now like the nword, also, in that no context is needed.
Rogan misinformed people because he has not been anointed (as Thomas Sowell might say), just like Rogan can’t use the nword because he’s not black.

That’s the insidiousness of censorship for you. Without censorship, none of this bullshit would be possible.

Wasn't that a Joni Mitchell lyric?

His $100 million dollar contract is, correctly, called FU money.

Psylocybin is a helluva a drug (or so I've heard anyway). Good for Joe.

I was thinking that Rogan is like the talk show hosts of my teenage years (60's/70's) like Mike Douglas, Dick Cavett, David Frost even Phil Donahue who had long form conversations with people they didn't necessarily agree with who wanted to talk about ideas. I'm not a podcast consumer, but of all the talk show type formats only Rogan and Maher still seem to be willing to engage with ideas. Interesting that they are both comedians by background.

I think that's the Bananas Foster at Eddie V's in Austin. Yumm! That's one great dessert!

I prefer to think he was referencing Carl Sagan: "We're made of star stuff,"

This incident reveals the stark differences between left and right, and how we'll never bridge the gap.

The right is defending the free speech of a Bernie Bro, while the left is seeking to have him destroyed because he isn't saying exactly what they want him to say.

Howard has a lot of resentment toward rich people. You know what Joe Rogan doesn't do? He doesn't try to run other people's lives. So those of us who feel the same way, and just want to be left alone, don't resent Rogan's money. You know who does resent Rogan's money? The people who want to run our lives for us. It's not that hard of a dynamic to understand, if you haven't been programmed into a cult.

Basically this is a continuation of the theme from the previous post: "the skill of putting up with a leaf blower right next to your table while you're eating at an outdoor restaurant makes me think he's taking the pursuit of serenity too far. There are other mental skills including protecting yourself from damaging decibels and feeling that you are entitled to basic respect." Sometimes that's not possible.

The whole point is to not "put up" with the irritation or the big controversy but to learn to not be irritated. Do something else by setting your mind to not let it bother you. IOW, give a big FU to the offense.

I think Lewis Carroll got there first:

“When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.’
’The question is,’ said Alice, ‘whether you can make words mean so many different things.’
’The question is,’ said Humpty Dumpty, ‘which is to be master — that’s all.”

Very post modern: which is to be master — that’s all

I was recently at a restaurant that included big fire demonstrations two times!

A bit of the cooking that was at the table, and also the dessert.

I was thinking: these antics are annoying.

Maybe I would have liked it more if I was high. Or if I was dumber.

I dunno.

FTR, I’m a huge JRE fan going back more than six years, never missing episodes before he moved re the exclusive deal at Spotify. But I have no idea why people treat him like a guru. He’s entertainment, but the more he puts his thumb on the scale re politics and conspiracies = not entertaining. Two Bears, and Bertcast, and Burr, and Skeptic Tank are wise to mostly avoid politics and conspiracies. Or they mock all of it. Also they don’t forget that their shit does stink, something Joe loses track of at times. It is unwise to think that having so-called FU money means your previously hidden garbage ideas should now be shared. Taking this to the hyperbolic extreme: just because someone may be guaranteed to get away with murder, that doesn’t mean that murder is all of a sudden a good thing for that person. IMHO.

***********

Joni:

"We are stardust
Billion year old carbon
We are golden
Caught in the devil's bargain"

From her song "Woodstock", covered by CSN. (and 291 other artists)

Myself, I think Carl Sagan's sentiment is what you might expect from a star-struck astronomer and planetary scientist, but a great surprise to hear from a singer like Joni Mitchell.

(Hard to believe that Sagan's been gone for 25 years.)

If there are already 24,536 comments on that instagram post, why would any rational person add number 24,537? What kind of people wrote the first 24,000? Who do they think sits quietly at the table reading tens of thousands of comments? At least with only 17 comments to this Ann Althouse post, there is some small possibility that someone will read this ... comment number 18.

Thank you for reading.

Now that the nword and the misinformation podcast are down/censored you can’t judge for yourself.

Rogan said the n and the m word.

@Leora: I remember (accurately, I hope) PBS’s “McNeil, Leherer” show having Saddam Hussein’s mouthpiece on after the invasion of Kuwait. They didn’t call him a liar, of Iraqi Supremacist, but just let him bloviate — trusting the viewer to figure things out.
And nobody tried to deplatform them!!

I never thought I'd live to see the day when someone cited Donahue as a responsible talk show host.

Joe has publicly stated he never reads his comments. He believes it's the only way to handle social media that gets as much traffic as his does.
