Cane holder? Why can't we have Grandma actuated — with holonomic movement?
January 6, 2022
"The single wheel unit uses a steering actuator for infinite wheel rotation, meaning it can turn 360 degrees, which enables holonomic movement, like a figure skater."
From "Hyundai imagines a world in which it has turned everything into a robot/House plants, tables, even Grandma’s cane holder" (The Verge).

Like in Heaven…
A past look at the future compels me to short this idea…
After multiple soinal compression fractures, I'd like to obtain holonomic movement.

Most scifi movies and books have this issue. They tend to focus on one change the future holds and hold the rest of the world static.
Grandma is going to be in a VR world or using a robot to go shopping and wont need a cane most likely.
We also wont really have car companies like Hyundai. It is hard for companies to visualize a future where their primary product no longer exists.
Why can't we have Grandma actuated?
Because if grandma can move like a figure skater, she might not want to go back to the covid free zone nursing home- Andrew Cuomo.
Looks even stupider than it sounds.
I didn't see that linked in the Verge article.
Hyundai has nothing on the Rockwell Automation Retro-Encabulator. The Retro-Encabulator has now reached a high level of development and it is being successfully used in the operation of Milford trunions.
Serious Question: WHY?
wouldn't it be more better, to just be dead?
i don't WANT to live in a world, where i need to convince a robot to allow me to travel
"But Grandmama, what big teeth you have!"
Even your stranded on a snowy road, emergency bottle will be a perky, inquisitive, charming robot.
I like furniture with caster wheels.
My brother bought a Roomba which has very good turning engineering built in. Turns out, when the dog makes a doody, you get a very fine layer spread about the whole house. Somebody should repeal the Law of Unintended Consequences!
Everyone knows Hyundai for cars. I've been very happy with the Elantra I drove for 11 years, 140m miles.
But they are also huge in automated machine tools
And robots. Very nice robots and lots of them
If they say they are going to do this I would never bet against them.
I would certainly question why, though

I had always wondered how Pat's Wheel of Fortune worked.
