"In a society where discussing politics is largely off limits and traditional media is tightly controlled, popular culture is the rare realm where individualism can thrive. And so the 'little fresh meat' phenomenon is about more than fashion and aesthetics; it offers an outlet for Chinese men and women at a time of economic uncertainty and a shifting power dynamic between sexes.... What the party appears to ignore, though, in blaming them for allegedly corrupting young men is that their fan base is predominantly female and in wealthy metropolises like Beijing and Shanghai. These women’s embrace of a more fluid form of masculinity is not a phenomenon the party should dismiss. Well-educated and financially independent, these women are bucking gender norms themselves by turning away from matrimony and motherhood and are proving to be resistant to the party’s push to boost marriages and births to offset the effects of an aging population. To this end, the party would do well to heed these women’s preferences. As some fans put it, the seemingly gentle manner and mild temper of 'little fresh meat' offer a welcome contrast to the chauvinistic attitude they can encounter in Chinese men. 'Having men be tender and thoughtful like women improves them,' one woman going by the name Jiangzi wrote in an online essay explaining her fondness for 'little fresh meat.' 'In dating and marriage,' she asked, 'who likes to be scolded?'"

I had an experience a couple of days ago:

Small towns- I went grocery shopping and through the check out of a woman who graduated a year ahead of me- Catholic High School.
We chatted, as our daughters went all through the years together in school. A young man came up behind her and was talking a bit with her, as well- and heard my eldest’s name. “Oh, _____ is home for Christmas! I follow her on Facebook!” So I say- Hi- who are you and both my friend and this young man smile(I assume as they were both wearing masks) & I immediately knew- “Oh! I’m sorry!” The young man answered that it was fine- “I’ve changed a lot- lol.”

My friend’s daughter is now her son. I’ve talked about this here. What a beautiful person. It saved this person from a horrible life- and maybe a sad, lonely tragic death…

I told him he looked wonderful and that that was the 1st time he had every spoken to me 1st.

There are 2 contradictory points in the article—that these are the men women are marrying and women aren’t marrying anybody. I don’t believe either one. I do believe that Helen Gao has some friends who are what we would call fag hags and she decided to get an article out of it. A woman at 20 may say she doesn’t want marriage and children, but don’t draw any conclusions until you see her at 30.

Yes, the NY Times giving its approval to their view of masculinity and men. It's working out so well here in the Western nations. Warning that China best think this through because their own elite class seems to be going the same way as the Upper East Side of New York.

China, in it's wisdom, previously killed millions of their own, then put limits on childbirth for decades, and is now playing catch up in a game where you typically just don't catch up. Like the US and other Western nations, and Japan and Russia, their birthrate is a problem and replacement rates are not being met. Not by an aging population. And now, just like us ultra-sophisticated in the West, the Chinese are working on sophisticating themselves out of existence. Their only hope: Import Mexicans and Central Americans like we do. The amount of time, money, and effort Chinese parents pour into their 1 child is huge. Which means that if you have 2 children, and aren't fantastically wealthy, both your children start out behind the 8 ball, because mom and dad can't give each of them as much as the other parents are giving their 1.

In a society where it's all about the "academics" and tutoring, that investment matters.

So it doesn't matter what the CCP says, upwardly striving parents aren't going to have more than 1 kid.

China has 100+ million more males than females. So if you're not a 10, 9, or maybe 9 male, you're likely losing out on the dating game, and have to dance to the women's tune.

Or, you decide to go gay, because that was can at least get some sex.

If we can ever get some honest data out of China, we'll get a look at exactly what % of men are willing to go gay, outside a prison.

That's a big "if", of course.
