""[Biden's Georgia speech] was aggressive, intemperate, not only offensive but meant to offend. It seemed prepared by people who think there is only the Democratic Party..."

"... in America, that’s it, everyone else is an outsider who can be disparaged. It was a mistake on so many levels.... If a president is rhetorically manipulative and divisive on a voting-rights bill it undercuts what he’s trying to establish the next day on Covid and the economy. The over-the-top language of the speech made him seem more emotional, less competent. The portentousness—'In our lives and . . . the life of our nation, there are moments so stark that they divide all that came before them from everything that followed. They stop time'—made him appear incapable of understanding how the majority of Americans understand our own nation’s history and the vast array of its challenges. By the end he looked like a man operating apart from the American conversation, not at its center...."

Writes Peggy Noonan, in "Biden’s Georgia Speech Is a Break Point/He thought he was merely appealing to his base. He might have united the rest of the country against him" (Wall Street Journal).

It's a common liberal conceit--everyone thinks like me. Those people who don't think like me don't really exist, or exist in the hills somewhere where we can ignore them. It shows up in all sorts of places, where liberals say the most stupidly insulting things in any company because it doesn't occur to them that anybody present might not fully agree. No one has horns and tails, so obviously they're all good liberals.

Is a vile, demonizing speech written by others and read by a dementia patient president more offensive, as offensive, or less offensive to propriety than the worst of Trump's mean tweets?

When can we start vilifying and demonizing Joe and his writers back?

This should be more inclusive.

It should include everyone in DC really.

What is really prompting this is the GOPe are losing control of the people as more and more of us realize they are the problem. The democrats didn't have to worry about a romney or a bush getting elected. They would usually move the agenda forward even faster. McConell and Ryan and McCarthy have demonstrated that they are more than willing to work with the democrats.

The problem is that an outsider is going to get elected in 2024. No more political class people. We will not just elect some politician.

The next day, after his rant, the Democrats pulled a typical stunt by deleting the contents of a NASA bill already passed by the Senate and inserting the HR 1 vote stealing language. Another deceptive maneuver. They think the Republicans cannot filibuster because a bill with the same number but different contents has passed before.

mezzrow: Obama used a small number of wonderful rhetorical devices. He used straw man arguments, where "some say" something horrible (he implied it was Repubs saying it) and then he'd state his prog wishlist. He lied like a dog, or a Clinton, to make myself clear. And he conflated groups of opponents with really vile groups.

For instance, he repeatedly spoke of law abiding gun owners as equivalent to actual mass murderers, and pushed the idea that any gun owner was just a mass murderer waiting for a chance to kill, kill, kill. He didn't call me a mass murderer, just said I was exactly like them solely because I was a law abiding gun owner.

Dementia Joe is just dehumanizing, othering, demonizing and throwing filth to see what sticks to his opponents. I, for one, find Obama's rhetoric horrible and Joe's speechwriters deserving of a bucket of tar and a bag of feathers.

i guess Biden is really in trouble when his "I hate Trump" base is attacking him.

Notice that Noonan wasn't upset at Biden lying and attacking Trump. Or pushing his Orwellian "Domestic Terrorism" office. Or leaving our Southern Border wide open and refusing to enforce the immigration laws. Or lying Hunter Biden and his corruption. Or calling up 25,000 NG troops to protect them from nothing. Or Biden lying about CV-19 or inflation (What? there is no inflation). Or lying about Rittenhouse being a "racist", or refusing to care about the Christmas Parade Massacre while blubbering on TV for months about Dead Criminal George Floyd.

Biden in his voting rights speech is just acting the way Biden always does. Noonan is only noticing because the Republican Establishment thinks the Voting rights bill will hurt them.

Biden was unfit to be POTUS - he's senile. That was obvious in the primaries. But people like Noonan refused to say and continued to attack Trump. Now, they finally recognize the problem. 1 year too late.

Exactly. There was an art to what Obama did, and he and his handlers were skillful if malign. I had no illusions before, but it is a tell to just straight out say these things without the gloss. Leaving an indelible record to be replayed time and time again.

There is no there there, I believe. The runaway train has slipped from control. I don't know if I have ever seen this level of disconnection from political reality from the Dems when the numbers already look as bad as they do for them. They are usually very competent retail politicians, but this is awful.

Each time they react to failure it gets worse. I had not grasped the depth of the incompetence as well as the depths of the incomprehension. They still have the institutional Republican party and several months of events to bail them out of their plight.

I find the emphasis on voting rights very odd. More people voted in the last presidential election than ever before. We just are not going back to Jim Crow. That is a ludicrous claim. The brief that Georgia filed in response to a suit seeking to undo its recent changes to Georgia law catalogued all the states that have similar rules to each of the "problematic" provisions. And there were lots, including Delaware and New York. It is simply fantasy to say that people are being denied the right to vote. So what is going on? Who is benefiting from this distraction? The Democrats have the House and (just barely) the Senate. They could be focusing like a laser on issues that matter to every day people. Take the high price of medicine in the US -- much higher than in other countries. Why not have hearings on that? Craft a bill, have a debate, give speeches on that. Even if you disagree that the high price of drugs in the US is a problem, it is at least worth an investigation, and a plan for a remedy that could be voted up or down. Instead, the President and the Democrats are focused on whether laws forbidding people from approaching folks standing in line to vote are a threat to the fundamental right to vote. What is going on here?

Exactly right, Peggy. Democrats are way past the point of reconciliation and QuidProJoe knows it. His speech writers and puppet masters are paving the way for sociopathic progressive Ă¼bermenschen to become our rulers as was meant to be. They own federal law enforcement and thousands of federal apparatchiks armed by Obama and maybe the military. They are attempting to neuter the police. I figured the opposite: that they wanted to wait, but he's declining too quickly and his unpopularity threatens to sink the Dems. Biden was supposed to get three big things passed in 2021: Afghan withdrawal, vaccine mandates, and BBB. All three have failed and now he doesn't want to leave because he would be seen as a failure. Meanwhile, I think Harris is getting antsy because a) there was an agreement that he'd step aside, and b) she needs a Dem congress to help pass some sort of legislation which she can hang a 2024 run on. A lame duck for two years would almost certainly invite a primary challenger, and she can't survive that.

I agree with Tim Maguire. The Democrats can not let Biden resign because that makes Harris the President and that is a clear demonstration of the cold, calculating failure of 2020 decision regarding the VP selection. Everyone knows that she is incapable of being the President. Plus, if she does become President they can't have anyone primary her in 2024 because she is a black woman and it would be racist. They know that if she runs as the sitting President the results would make Dukakis look like a winner.

The only play is to get her out as VP, maybe some carrot/stick combination, and install a VP who can take over from Joe when he resigns and is a credible candidate for President in 2024. That would be a back room decision without squad or Bernie consultation because they know they need someone perceived as electable and moderate. I don't think they want it to be Hillary but who else can they choose??

Invasion of the Text-Body Snatchers - US Capitol January 14, 2022
The House Dems have taken a bill, H.R. 5746, which as sent to them by the Senate, dealt with NASA leasings, snatched out its text-body and replaced it with another quite different text-body. Led by "Butcher" Pelosi, they took out the main text body dealing with NASA leases, and inserted the main text body of the two Dem "voting rights" bills into the cavity thus formed. They then passed "H.R. 5746" by vote and sent it back to the Senate for final passage. This maneuver allows the Dems to bypass the filibuster since Original H.R. 5746 had already passed all other stages required for legislation. Since Manchin and Sinema have said they support the "voting rights" bills, they perhaps will vote for Body-Snatched H.R. 5746. That seems to be the goal of the evisceration and total replacement of H.R. 5746. Can Dems simply replace text of laws with other more Dem-friendly text whenever they feel like it? Have we always been at war with East Eurasia? This can hardly be Constitutional. We'll see if Senate Dems care.

Who calls them deplorables? Who calls them traitors? People voted for Biden in some sense because they thought they would get a nice guy in office, but he is the representative of the party of evil, the party of hate and divisiveness that wants to gain control of the levers of power to be able to dictate behavior and thought. They will send innocents to jail on trumped-up charges. They don't want to make America great, they want to punish their enemies. The assertion that maintaining levels of voter integrity is racist and seeks to deny legal living eligible citizens from voting is insulting. The Democrats want no barriers to cheating. Huge majorities of Americans including majorities of Black and Hispanic citizens favor voter ID.

Have Democrats ever once put forth legislation to ensure every American has access to an ID? No, because they know every American who wants an ID has one. This is a tool to cheat. Mail in voting is another tool to cheat, that's why it isn't allowed in most of the world.

If you want to know which party is more adept at cheating in elections look at the primaries. In 2016 the Republican party operatives did not want Trump to be the nominee, but the people did. Likewise the Democrats did to want Bernie to be the nominee, but the people wanted him. How did that turn out? The same was true for the Democrats in 2020.

They really need to be more careful with what they say around ole Joe.

That's funny.

If I were Dr. Jill, I'd start pushing for a new chief of staff. Mind you I think she's engaging in elder abuse by the whole spectacle of putting Joe up for Prez, but we are where we are. If the prospect of having your hubby become President was sufficiently enticing for you to help make it happen, I'd think you'd be invested in his term not being an epic failure.

Glad to hear from some folks that those who comment on the train wreck that is Joe Biden are "rude and insulting". There are apparently at least a few souls out there that still love them some Biden.

But with a speech like the disgraceful display in Atlanta, their numbers are fast diminishing.

David: "Peggy Noonan has been a professional agitator for the right since the 1990's. Without reading a word of her column you know she will be caustic and make snide remarks that are best said in a junior high school. She engages spphistry ignoring historical truths. Georgia's Republican party is a child of Dixiecrats and old south moralists. Biden knew exactly what he was doing, and he gave back to his rude and insulting critics as they gave him. References to Bull Connor and Jeff Davis were suitable considering the location. Noonan is a brilliant woman who defeats herself by predictable rancor and distortion of the facts."

There are so many things wrong here one really can't start.

So we'll just point and laugh at David for doing his/her/xer's best gadfly impression!

Readering: "I'm not Biden's base......."

Oh, of course not. Why, who could think such a thing?

readering: " I don't pay attention to all the folks here who call Democrats fascists and communists ;and don't pay attention to all Biden's rhetorical flourishes. But Jim Crow is part of recent US history. Fascism and communism, not so much."

LOL

readering writes that literally 1 day after Biden's Earpiece calls on "private" businesses that are at the mercy of govt pressure and rule making to silence Biden's Earpiece Administration opponents.

The very definition of fascism....before the democraticals changed the definition of fascism...which is precisely the sort of rewriting of history/changing definitions and "truth" that EVERY communist government has engaged in.

But only every single time in every single place they held power.

Drago said...

narciso: "Romney's gonna put you in chains,..."

Biden's Earpiece was right about that....but what Biden's Earpiece was wrong about was just WHO Romney wanted to put in chains.

We now know its republican base voters.

As evidenced by Romney proudly, yes, quite PROUDLY, marching shoulder to shoulder with the marxist BLM and supporting the complete weaponization of the government and its institutions against the people who, according to Biden's Earpiece Administration DOJ flacks, are "anti-authoritarians".

AMDG said...

For those who say Dementia Joe was just reading what was put if front of him - I disagree.

Biden’s the guy that accused Mitt Romney of wanting to out black peoples back in chains. This rhetoric was right in his wheelhouse.

You do realize that Joe Biden just told corporations to ignore the Supreme Court and to fire anyone who does not bend the knee to his vaccine mandate right?

He said that yesterday.

Government and Corporate collusion to ignore individual rights is the definition of National Socialism.

You can hum and plug your ears and not listen all you want.

The democrats in power right now are fascists, definition of.

Biden was always that guy. He was always an irresponsible loudmouth. So this is a strange moment. People who liked and trusted Biden are shocked, shocked, at his remarks. I'm thinking "Meh, typical irresponsible idiot Biden."

Worst, most reprehensible speech I've ever heard from a POTUS.

It was a disgrace.

I want to give him a pass because he's always been an asshole and now he's a senile asshole.

But it was so bad I can't and won't.

'The good news is, after Biden read the toxic bile written for him, he got a scoop of his favorite ice cream.'

Speaking of Noonan and speechwriters, we usually know the names of the people who write consequential speeches.

Who is the asshole who will take credit for this pile of garbage?

BUMBLE BEE reminded us of LBJ's take on the deep, moral lesson of his 1964 Civil Rights Act: "That'll keep those _____s voting democrat for the next 50 years."

Unfortunately, the Dems don't seem to realize the expiration date ended in 2014. (OK, Math is hard for social studies majors.)

But you keep on playing the race card, Brandon. That's the ticket...

The Democrats don't know what to do with Biden and Harris because they never expected to have to do anything with them. They were supposed to be virtuous losers--sacrifice candidates. When they were selected by the Democrats as candidates, Trump looked like he was cruising for an easy re-election. The covid pandemic screwed up their plans by giving them an unexpected win. Now they have to deal with the results.

The admin has now seen that Biden's speech isn't going to do what they thought it would do. He's rocking back on his heels now.

So, next step: tell the pet journos that Putin is setting up a false flag op in Ukraine - get them repeating this - and then Biden sends covert troops into Ukraine and starts trouble, thus opening the door to WWIII.

Because Biden is now so out of the running that the Dems are going to need a war to keep them in power.

Readering remains upset that some remember he/she/xe remains, to this very day, a russia collusion truther and conspiracy lunatic who also pushed the Clinton hoax dossier, Putin changing votes, the make-believe pee tape, Putin controlling Trump, etc.

Readering enjoys presenting him/her/xer-self as a "deep deep" thinker who is quite unlike those crazy conservatives thus, being reminded of these very uncomfortable truths upsets readering quite a bit.

Of course, if readering no longer believes these many, many, many idiotic and lunatic and utterly debunked far left conspiracy theories, now would be a great time to fess up and "move on".

My confidence in that occurring is not high....

Correct.

Its just another ploy to pretend to be pulling out all the stops to get Federalized Permanent Cheat By Mail passed which is generally sufficient to fool the democratical rubes, like readering for instance.

The Democrats / Left put together an incredible election machine. Covid was just another gift. With the juicing of the results in certain areas, I am not sure there is any way Trump could have legally won.

And my gut feeling, is the fraud is even worse than what has been reported so far. There was the usual level of fraud, but then they had to go beyond that to push Biden over the finish line.

DECKIE66: As a commenter above noted, Biden('s speech writers) ignored a great opportunity to get the crowd on his side with one opening sentence: "How 'bout them Dawgs!" The crowd would have roared, and the halo effect would have made many of them ignore how awful was his subsequent speech. (Disclosure: I live in Georgia but I'm a Crimson Tide fan. So that wouldn't have worked with me.)

"It's who counts the vote"....so now Slow Joe is quoting Stalin? and lest we forget Bull Conner and Jeff Davis were both Dems. Conner's punishment for unleashing the Klan and using dogs and firehoses against peaceful demonstrating black marchers - was to be appointed to head the Dem party. That was probably edited out for brevity. (sarc)
