On a 0% cloud cover morning, the most interesting thing about the sunrise was how it shone through the state capitol building.

I know it doesn't show too clearly, but it's the best I could do.

The time was 7:04.

Netflix dark comedy "Don't Look Up" was inspired by Greta Thunberg 😉

During the Trump administration the usual Althouse lefty trolls bitched endlessly about Trump’s alleged “tax cuts for the rich.” In fact, Trump’s capping of the state and local tax (SALT) deduction at $10,000 hit wealthy limousine liberals right in the wallet. Biden’s Build Back Better bill includes raiding that cap to $72,500. Who can take advantage of SALT deductions thst high? Not ordinary working stiffs. Not even small business owners. But people pulling in more than a $350,000? They are projected to save thousands of dollars in taxes.

As if they needed it.

You might think about getting one of those cheap clip-on telephoto lenses to clip onto your phone. I have onecand while I don't use it all that often, it's occasionally useful -- e.g. taking pictures of water lilies, which are generally not close enough to photograph well with my phone. I find it's best with the Samsung "pro" mode (where you have some shutter speed, manual focus, and white balance control) but I think a lot of camera applications have those options these days.

Check other photos from the same date (and a day before & after) for sunrise visible through the Capitol. Also check photos from January 18-22. November 22 may be one of only two days a year when you can see this.

There is a phenomenon called Manhattanhenge, the two days a year when the sunset aligns with the cross streets & shines straight down them. Seems you have your own private Mendotahenge.

First of all - cheese doesn't come in cans - dairy plants and cheese factories don't have such a packaging system. Second, Winsome Sears as Virginia Lt Governor won about the same percentage of votes (50.7%) that Glenn Younkin won (50.6%) in the gubernatorial race, so no evidence of voting popularity other than party line. Third, this news item is three weeks old.

Tavistock clinic treats girls who don’t like dolls ‘as transgender

Girls who do not like pink ribbons or playing with dolls are being treated as transgender at the NHS Tavistock clinic, according to a whistleblower.

'Dr David Bell, who was a governor at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, said that his former employer was acting as a “gateway for puberty blockers”, putting young people on a pathway to medical treatment.

At a conference organised by Genspect, a parental support group for gender-questioning children, Bell said that adolescents not conforming to gender stereotypes were treated as if they had been born in the wrong bodies.

Medical intervention at the north London trust was “supporting a rigid, binary construction of gender” where if patients “don’t like pink ribbons and dollies, you are not really a girl”...'

What a ridiculous report. Are these people paid for making such profound remarks. I bought My daughter a beautiful pram along with dolls and all the accessories. When I moved house i passed this onto a friend in perfect unused condition. My daughter was an outdoor type who preferred her brother’s Lego and cars. She is now a mother in a happy relationship. Nothing unusual about that.

I love being a woman, think dolls are freaky, hated pink as a child, ran about outside, often with boys, love getting covered in mud. Enjoyed lego, maps, maths and science. I am a chartered engineer and well-balanced mother to 3 boys. I don’t want anyone, particularly a man, telling me what I should be like to be a proper woman.

I'm glad that I'm not young now. I didn't like dolls etc, preferring to play with construction toys and train sets. I became a physicist but am definitely a heterosexual female! One of my daughters was similar and she became an engineer but is also married with 3 children. Heaven help us if the Tavistock Clinic had got hold of us!

I don't think this idea has been floated yet, but DR Jill Biden seems like the obvious Dem POTUS move for 2024. Why hasn't the Dem braintrust figured this out yet? I'd bet my first SS check that she would poll higher right now than Joe, Kameltoe, Mayor Pete, or any other candidate that has been floated so far. She's a DR, she's a WOMAN, and she's already running the country!

Yet somehow she has won a couple of Republican primaries. But you keep on rebuilding the Republican Party by calling us all racists. It's infuriating and drives turnout.

" CT is another democratic stronghold and sanctuary state. The criminals are fearless and have no regard for anyone."

In South Florida it's pickpocketing, which is an art form in South America and parts of Europe. Low level crime is a fact of life in the UK, at least, the only place in Europe I have lived, and I once only avoided having my laptop stolen because I had slammed it shut right before the hand that swiped at it passed. I was using it in public to take advantage of one of those BT WiFi hotspots they have there. Saw the guy running away, I guess he felt like the guy in the cartoon where the moon exploded.

When the government gives in to petty criminals, quality of life drops. That's one thing, but when the government gives into to violent criminals, you can expect vigilanteism, and organized crime. Watch Godfather I, he used his thugs to protect the neighborhood, and took a little tax for it. The Italian neighborhood in the North End of Boston was legendary for how safe it was to walk on the streets there at night, it was also famous for the Mafia figures who lived there.

If you (while still being the person you are) could choose whether to be black or white, which would you pick?
Would your answer be different for different stages in your life?

My iPhone 12 Pro has a telephoto lens, and I don't really want to go in, handheld, and further than than I do.

I do have little portable tripod that I could take on my run, but I've never used it. I bought it thinking I'd do a time-lapse sunrise now and then. Some day.

"Do your best". A great motto to follow. One that many learned in their youth and probably don't follow in their adulthood.
