"Do not blame the LGBTQ community for any of this.... It's about corporate interests and what I can say and what I cannot say."

This is new video — 5 minutes of it — from Dave Chappelle — posted yesterday at Instagram:

He says that everyone he knows in the LGBTQ community has been supportive of him. He made a series of comedy shows and a documentary about making them. The first show was about the murder of George Floyd, and the documentary was accepted into various film festivals. Then, after the controversy over his most recent show, "The Closer," he got disinvited from the festivals and no one wants to touch the documentary.

He doesn't say, but you can infer that he thinks that has more to do with race and George Floyd than anything about transgender people.

He says he's willing to meet with transgender people, "but you will not summon me. I am not bending to anybody's demands." He states 3 conditions, the first 2 of which are serious. You have to watch the entire show, "The Closer." And you have to meet him at a time and place of his choosing. The third condition is a punchline: "You must admit that Hannah Gadsby is not funny."

He goes on to say that he's going to screen the documentary, free, in 10 cities (click through to the Instagram page to see the list), "And you will see what they are trying to obstruct you from seeing and you can judge for yourself."

He ends: "You have to answer the question: Am I cancelled or not?!"

The pronoun salad team is just a tool.

One of many tools.

This is all about the aristocracy tearing our social fabric apart one piece at a time.

They need us divided and fighting among ourselves so we do not notice their corruption and greed.

Their time is coming.

I'm confused. All those people who angrily surrounded the pro-Dave guy the other day... are those the loving people Dave is talking about?

or is he attempting to paint them as "loving" so perhaps they wonder to themselves - "gosh, I'm not that loving, am i?"

He's specifically referring to the transgender people that he knows.

Unless he says George Floyd was a setup job show trial, he's not as with it as he thinks.

Do you know why you hold somebody down with your knee on his neck? Because it takes no force, just a blockage that doesn't move if it's moved against. You can hold the knee position absolutely firm regardless how much force is exerted against it. That includes a tiny force, which is what was applied.

I'm sure you people will love his George Floyd routine.

This is false. A portion of that "community" is indeed coming after him. "Corporate interests" pressure him because they are getting pressure form the left. DC is here retreating into an anti-corporate form of PC to make nice with his enemies. But he is a clever guy, playing his cards, keeping up the pressure on his end.

Pandering while assuring us he's not pandering. This guy is funny!

He doesn't want to be told what he can or can't say, but he's telling us what we can or can't think.

No one said comedians are smart. Some of the things they say are dumb. But sometimes even the dumb things make people think. And that's why people try to cancel them.

Thanks, Dave, for telling us who not to blame so we don't need to think. That way maybe you won't be cancelled.

The aristocracy needs us divided.

Some are willing to lend them a hand.

AA: "He's specifically referring to the transgender people that he knows."

Only in that one line is he talking about people he knows.

First he talks about the Netflix employees, then he says it's "not about" that community being against him. "It has nothing to do with that."

Oh really? What, exactly, does he think "has nothing to do" with the LGBTQ community being against him.

If this was an isolated instance, then maybe what he says makes sense. But anyone who is not living under a rock understands that it has everything to do with that community.

He wants to blame it on corporate interests. Would those corporate interests keep him from telling jokes about trans people if the trans community didn't try to cancel him?

Joe Smith said...

The LGBT, trans, etc. community is NOT an oppressed group.

When major corporations donate hundreds of millions of dollars to your cause, and the most powerful country on earth flies your flag outside of their embassies, you are the opposite of oppressed.

You are the ones calling the shots. You are the oppressors of opinion. You are the despots.

"Are we the baddies?" is more appropriate...

WHY can't he joke about them?? Comedians joke about everybody and everything. Are they special or something?? If they can't take the heat, maybe they SHOULDN'T have jumped in the fire or maybe they should wait until they are mature enough to deal with it.

The 20 angry trans-people who didn't even watch his show, have the power to shut Dave down and cancel him.

Strange times.

Read this thread and the links inside - and it's clear that the media are behind the faux-drama and outrage.
Note the gas-lighting numbers. "hundreds!" not quite.

Sort of like Fauci lying to Rand Paul about Gain of Function money and research. He denied it and said 'how dare you!" to questioning. Now it is confirmed that gain of function research did take place. Now Fauci and his hacks in the hack press cannot deny it - so the goal-posts and narrative are moved to "but none of that funding and research had anything to do with covid. and how dare you suggest such a thing."

It's all the same leftist lying garbage.

He's drawing a distinction between your average transgender person, who in every other way are just people trying to live their lives, and the activists who purport to speak for them even though they never did anything to earn that position.

Chappell is uncompromising and so is comedy. The trans activists don’t have what Dave has. Despite having all that corporate power, they are doomed to fail. At least canceling Dave Chappell they are doomed to fail. The danger for the trans activists is that Dave is showing others how is done. Once they aren’t feared, they are powerless.

Hannah Gadsby was funny on her "Douglas" special. If you know someone or are on the autism spectrum, her "Am I made of box?" was pretty funny.

Dave Chappelle is a genuine freedom fighter. You can see this because he is fighting for the 1st Amendment. And it's backed up by the woke seeing him as a terrorist.

How many trans people can he possibly know? Despite what you read there are scant few of them. Maybe 4 tenths of one percent of the US population. Tiny but loud.

It's not the LGBTQ community, but the "T" community, or at least the activists that claim to speak for them and the corporate interests that are scared to death of those activists and treat them as if they're elected representatives.

Sounds like he's saying this whole controversy was aimed at stopping his George Floyd documentary from getting the planned exposure. Why? If he agreed that GF was a hero and all the bad things that happened in Minneapolis thereafter were righteous, I can't imagine there would be any pushback. Could it be that he was going to point out the negatives of the riot and loot culture?

Jupiter said...

Yo, Dave. I saw your BS glorification of George Floyd, the drug-addicted thug who held a gun to a pregnant woman's stomach while his friends searched her apartment for money. So, yeah. That's a big yes. You're cancelled. Siddown. STFU.

The average transgender person - if there truly is a "community" of transgenders - is not distinguishable from the activists. As long as this "community" fails to shut down these activists it is complicit in their behaviors.

FWIW, I haven't seen anyone in the transgender "community" denounce the trans student who has raped and molested two different high school girls in Virginia.

For that matter, I haven't seen any denouncement of those assaults by the representatives of the '#MeToo' interest group.

Only parents and students have spoken up.

I wonder why that is.

Well, no I don't.

Jeez. Maybe I'm just missing it. Or maybe I've been a Chappelle fan for too long to think he's anything but himself- again. But I love listening to him, even though I'm sure his take on George Floyd might ruffle my feathers. I can take it. I've always considered him one of the greats of our time. Because he's unique and he's always been his own man. That's important to me. He made his way...his way.

This is a guy who left the coasts to live in a small town in Ohio to get away from all the shit. Yet when he goes out, it still finds him. I look forward to seeing a copy of the movie he's talking about, even though it may piss me off a bit. There's too much good and smart and funny in what he says and how he says it for me to block out his entire being for something I don't agree with. I save that for Democrats.

No doubt Howie (thinks he) is being sarcastic but seeing that George Floyd died in a democrat stronghold, that is a democrat run city with a democrat run police department in a democrat run state that should be right on the money.
Especially when (almost) all those resulting mostly peaceful protests were in democrat run areas of 'systematic racism'. Because that was what they were protesting against after all, the 'systematic racism that was inflicted on them in the places they live, places which happens to be (mainly) under democrat rule.

Yancey,

How many transgender people do we believe Chappelle actually knows? I am guessing they can be counted on 1 finger.

You mean including the girl comedian he knew who killed herself?

Now that "transsexual" does not imply sex reassignment surgery any more, just identity and (maybe) hormonal treatment, transsexuals aren't nearly as rare as they used to be. My husband's niece, now nephew, is one. He has also had a few in his orchestras. .4% isn't accurate. It's more like 2% IIRC.

How long this will last is a good question, though. The kids my husband describes are going through hell, the sort of hell you don't ordinarily bring upon yourself if you can help it, and so it seems more than the latest teen fad. That said, I'm afraid a lot of them will do something that's difficult or impossible to repair, and then find that they don't like it any more. That Bari Weiss-hosted Substack piece last week detailed some of the nastier consequences, and it was written by two MTFs.

I think the requirement he should have set for any meeting with the complainers is that they have to prove exactly how they (as individuals) have any right to represent the entire transgender community? Was there an election? Did they call a convention and appoint delegates to select a spokestrans? Or did they just unilaterally declare themselves as spokestrans for the group and we're expected to accept that? And maybe ask them to explain how they polled all the trans across the country to determine how they felt about the Chapelle special so we can be sre they aren't just projecting their own grievances as those of the entire group.

So he thinks it's about white people wearing masks, too.

Watch The Closer to the end and say it's about hating trans people. Or more specifically, that it's about Chappelle hating trans people. There is hate of a trans person, but it's not coming from him.

Frankly I'd never heard of her. I pulled up four separate U-Tube videos....

Perhaps my sample was far too small. But it was 100% not funny.

Chappelle often hits close to my personal biases. But he's funny.... a lot.

Brian McKim and/or Traci Skene said...

Humor is subjective. Having said that, I offer this assessment of Gadsby:

She's not all that good at standup.
A lot of her material is old shit (in some cases, not even camouflaged).

Might have something to do with the Aussie comedy scene. (We visited a comedy club in 1992, in Sydney, and we were shocked. The material, the premises and the delivery were decades behind the U.S. Sure, one night in one club, but it was the best club in town and Sydney is the biggest city in the country. I suspect it had something to do with the fact that unions restricted who could mount the stage and when, in stark contrast to here, where anybody can get on any stage, if they sign up and wait around. Not sure if that's changed... things like that tend to get worse over time, though.)

Regardless of whether or not you think she's funny, she's just sucks at standup.
