"Robert Durst Found Guilty of Murdering Friend."

Questionable use of the word "friend" in a NY Magazine headline.
Real-estate scion Robert Durst was convicted of first-degree murder by a jury in California on Friday for killing a close friend...

There's that word again.

... over 20 years ago. The crime is one of three murders Durst is suspected of over nearly four decades — all of which he apparently confessed to in the HBO documentary series The Jinx, six years ago.

Does the blog have a theme today? Unacceptable behavior?

I din't really follow this story, but did see/hear what was claimed as a 'confession.'

If that's all they had, then his lawyer is pretty terrible...it was weak sauce.

If that's how he treats his friends I would not want to be one of his enemies.

Didn't Vito always tell us to keep our friends close? Or was it enemies?

If he's going to brutally murder you, he's not really your friend

She was his friend up until the point where she decided to turn him in. The fact that she gave him a fake alibi to get away with murder then decided to rat him out... what the hell was she thinking?

Instant karma is a bitch

Since she was a friend, he probably killed her most politely.

Howard: "what the hell was she thinking?"

I recall reading that she got 2 $50,000 payments from him just prior to her demise. So, she was thinking blackmail. But even a daughter of a mob boss can underestimate a serial killer (maybe because with them, it's never "just business"?).

I guess the killing of "a friend" is supposed to elicit more condemnation, if not more consternation. While the killing of a stranger on the other hand we are suppose to process it as though it was the killing of a innocent bystander? That doesn't compute.

Or maybe he killed her softly...

All too late.

Once the story about Durst living as a woman in Galveston while he was on the run becomes more widely known, he is sure to be pardoned and turned into a trans national icon.

While we’re nitpicking language in this headline how about the ‘found guilty’?

Guilty was misplaced? Just plain lost? Not anymore!!!

I feel safer when I see that the murder victim was family or a “friend.” It sees as though there are people who don’t work out their personal problems and use violence as a solution. There people seem like the “other” — the deplorables — and not like people in my life. It’s the monster roaming about looking for strangers that feels more dangerous when you don’t know anyone in your life who seems capable of violence.

Ah.... comment from Althouse dated 7:28 pm 9/18/21. Did this really sit here ending the conversation ever since?

Great comment -- Ann! Rehajm? Farm girl?

I don't know if it's what Althouse really intended to say, but if not it sure seems like a dangerously Freudian slip. Am I missing something? I hope so!!!

Yet, look at some of these lefty commenters here. Their hatred sometimes sounds close to murderous rage to me.

Unlike the deplorables who exercise reason, logic, and history. Big whup; exterminate all the brutes, right?
