Tonight is the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. The moon will be down, so the sky will be dark. The best time to watch is after midnight, when the Earth is facing into the swarm. Here in Pugetopulis, the sky will be clear, so I'm going out to are property tonight to watch them. The sky there is pretty dark and now that we've cleared our home site, I'll have a good field of view to watch them.

So now Moderna is better than Pfizer against Delta?

Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine may be more effective against the Delta variant than Pfizer’s, according to a new study.

"...Researchers found the effectiveness of Pfizer’s vaccine against COVID dropped considerably last month as the Delta strain took hold, according to two reports published on medRxiv on Sunday that have yet to be peer-reviewed…

The study included more than 50,000 patients in the Mayo Clinic Health System, which runs hospitals in Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin."

'...Now, as to the value of the science and the consistency of the messaging from the government, we appear to have a serious problem that needs to be addressed. You may recall that barely a month ago we were told that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which has been plagued with problems from the beginning, was “highly effective” against the Delta variant with only one dose. So how does that compare to Moderna and the now lagging Pfizer? We don’t know because nobody is telling us.

Along the same lines, let’s take a moment and look through a small sampling of headlines, almost all of which came out during the same period.

'...Every time we turn around another story is released by the “follow the science” people and each one seems to contradict the last. First, all of the vaccines were great. Then some were greater than others. Then we didn’t need a booster but now we probably do. This vaccine seems to work great while this other one is sort of garbage but don’t worry because they’ll all keep you out of the hospital even if you catch the disease after taking our highly effective vaccines that were supposed to stop you from catching the disease.'

"...All I know is that we need some consistency in all of these expert studies if the government wants confidence in the vaccines to improve and vaccination rates to rise. That would do one heck of a lot more for them than lottery drawings, free cash, or mandatory vaccination orders."

Apparently the Russians stole Hunter Biden's laptop so they could have compromising material they could use to gain leverage over President Biden. There are two problems with this. One, There is no leverage if the media doesn't cover the story, and they can't even buy facebook ads due to the fake news filter. And two, if Biden was asked to comment on Hunter's exploits, all he would say is "Hunter who?"

Stupid Russians.

And I’ve seen another study that says Johnson&Johnson is the most effective against Delta. Someone’s lying, and due to their spotty track record on Coronavirus-related topics, I am inclined to believe it’s the Times.

Did the Vice President die? I admit I don’t watch the news anymore but I could swear we had the first woman Vice President and she was very active in the beginning of the current presidency. Now? Not so much.

On the scaffold, just before she was beheaded, Anne Boleyn took the opportunity to speak aloud about her love and undying or, anyway, unswerving loyalty to Henry VIII. Some historians have remarked that she was probably hoping for a last minute reprieve or, perhaps, she was reflecting that beheading wasn't the worst possible punishment and that it would be impolitic at that time to express her doubts about the prerogatives of anointed kings......I just finished reading Journey into the Whirlwind by Eugenia Ginzburg. The book is a memoir of her time within the Soviet Gulag. It was written in 1967, some twelve years after her release, and published abroad. She goes all Winston Smith in the last chapter and states how happy she is that the Soviet Union is returning to true Leninist principles after all that unpleasantness under Stalin. It's kind of chilling, but maybe she was being more Anne Boleyn than Winston Smith.

StephenFearby--I wonder, as I read your comment, how much more common has the Pfizer vaccine been? From the start, Pfizer was the gold standard of vaccines, with most people choosing it if they had a choice. Well, now it's less effective against Delta. Should we be surprised? How tight are the numbers between how much more common the vaccine was before Delta and how much less effective it is against Delta?
