I spent a little time in those. It's another world, but black Americans are welcome (we're welcome almost anywhere - people elsewhere know what happened here). I met an African family who the French had deprived of a driver's license for 5 years. A few Hip-Hop artists. At night, they're dystopian. One of the Paris attackers in that terrorist hit on that Eagles of Death Metal show was from the village I lived in and a friend of my God Son. France is NOTHING like people here think.

I got no other experience with life than the one I'm having, which is South Central, the LA/Hollywood valley, San Francisco, Utah - which is enough to understand two things really well: how the American Dream is fabricated by corporations and what cultish bullshit is.

The center just ignored the speech...that was the wise thing to do.
If you like Biden or want to cover for him, you'll ignore his very untrue and ungracious comments about nothing being done against COVID during the Trump administration. You'll think they're true, or more true than untrue, or that Trump deserves them, or that Biden and his cause are functionally or pragmatically justified in minimizing the role of the last administration or that it's just politics and therefore excusable.
People's minds only seem to work when they have something to work against. If you agree with Biden, you find his tone soothing, and that soothing tone convinces you that this was a great speech and just what the country needs. You don't hear anything problematic or offensive in Biden's comments because you're taking in the music, not the lyrics. If you don't like Biden, your mind is working overtime to find things wrong with the speech.
And there was plenty wrong with the speech, but I did notice one overreaction in the criticism: so many on the right jumped to defend Trump supporters against the charge that they were attacking Asians. But Biden didn't say that Trump supporters were responsible. That may have been a "dog whistle," but if there was some hidden intent behind the remark, part of it may have been to provoke conservatives into such reactions. Saying "It wasn't us; it was them" when that wasn't in question to begin with, doesn't look good on TV and gets interpreted as yet another dog whistle.
