Okay, all ye Early Music fans out there:

When did the Hilliard Ensemble do this recording of Early Polyphony?

I mean, I’ve got probably every recording of early polyphony out there (there's not that much of it), and how a recording by the Hilliard Ensemble snuck by me, I don’t know.

Are these recordings on a CD included in this book?

Where the hell did this recording come from?

There's a website that wants all businesses to pledge that President-Emeritus Joe Biden was election was legitimate:

"The Democracy Pledge is a simple commitment that corporations, companies and businesses can make to support democracy by affirming the legitimacy of the 2020 Presidential election.

They're asking for a company name, such as "The Democrats stole the 2020 election." and a Full name, such as "Joe Biden" or "Kamala Harris" or "Nancy Pelosi." Other responses about how honest the election was are possible as well as other politicians' names.

Roughly 35% of adults have gotten at least 1 shot.
A minimum of 17% have gotten the 'Rona, assuming a rather high 50% of cases captured by testing.

Assuming that roughly 1/3 of those who had the rona also got at least one shot (it's probably lower), 47% or so of US adults are effectively immune. Even if they've only had one shot, it's still around 90% immunity provided by the MRNA or PFE shots.

If, the serology samples are correct, somewhere between 35-45%, at least, of adults have gotten the 'Rona.
Subtract 45% from the vaccinated group assuming random shots, and we're at 50-60% immunity.

So, 45-60% of American adults are no longer susceptible to the 'Rona.

Give up the fear, people.

The golf course at which I am a member opens the 2021 season tomorrow, Friday. I have a tee time in the early afternoon. It is supposed to be 64 degrees F, a bit of a breeze, and likely mostly cloudy. Sounds perfect to me. My game, on the other hand, having had a lengthy holiday will probably lack consistency and be a bit erratic. Fine by me.

The reaction from the sycophants to Biden's "press conference" today reminds me of the Irish Catholic wakes of my youth; "Doesn't he look great?!?".

Mike of Snoqualmie said...

Yes. At times, Biden's brain escaped and ran away. Biden had to use what little brain cells he had left to get his brain to come back.

Not so quick sparky. I still have no idea how success is measured.

It is not stopping death by rona.

If that were the goal, we would have vaccinated all the vulnerable first. But thousands still died while those not at risk sacrificed the vulnerable.

Viruses like this mutate quickly. It is just a fact of life on the planet Earth. The virus became endemic the moment it left China on a jet airplane. All true, I agree the VARIANTS!!!!!!!!!! will be used by the tyrants to keep things locked down.

I hope enough people notice that no one who's been vaccinated has actually contracted the VARIANTS to any degree, this, despite the UK variant being, well, prevalent in the UK and where there are enough people vaccinated to notice if there was a serious real-world drop in efficacy.

But yes. as I've stated repeatedly, the only way to overthrow the tyrants is through mass (un)civil disobedience. Personally I prefer tarring, feathering, and if necessary, ropes and trees.

"Any chance the entire press corp was involved in the production? All meeting secretly after hours and rehearsing."

The most striking thing to me about the press conference is that Shitforbrains was never once interrupted that I noticed. Trump's press conferences were an interruption fest- he was rarely allowed more than 20 seconds to give an answer before another reporter would try to ask a follow up with, "Mr. President, Mr. President," and several them trying to talk over one another. It was just fucking weird watching Shitforbrains just meander along trying to connect any two thoughts together in a coherent way with the rest of the room in total silence. It was apparent to me that Shitforbrains is having trouble reading anything now that is on paper and in his hands.

I think the press that was allowed in was warned in no uncertain terms- don't deviate from script and don't interrupt at all. The first time Shitforbrains is put before a press corp without a script will be the last time- he will have to resign the next day. He hasn't been in an unscripted venue since the last Democrat primary debate before the party decided to give him the nomination. And he is getting worse at the scripted stuff by the week.

Yancey Ward said...

alfromchgo,

That is just the reality- occassionally Fauci is correct. The problem is that many of the politicians have set zero COVID as a goal- that goal is stupid and unreachable. The vaccine makers won't be able to keep up with the variants any better than they keep up with influenza.

The good news is that it is highly probable that the variants will be less dangerous to the population. In the end, I expect that COVID's progeny hastens the deaths of between 10k and 50K Americans every year. However, if we continue to test for it like we are, the "death" count will be above that higher end just because of the way COVID on a death certificate is added.

Chuck, you are about the worst of the monomaniacs here. Have you ever posted a comment that was not about Trump?

The psychopathic obsession with Trump seems to be persisting. Back in 2015, I first got interested in the Trump phenomenon. I considered it, and still do, to be related to the Tea Party phenomenon and to the 1994 election, which elected a GOP Congress that then proceeded to do nothing important.

I was amazed that Trump won the 2016 election but considered it to be brick through the window of the Establishment of both parties. I did not expect much.

But then, in spite of every man's hand against him, he began to keep his promises. The two big ones, that involved intractable problems until now, were China and Immigration. He began to use EOs to deal with these problems even while the GOP Congress majority refused to do anything to keep their promises. John McCain campaigned for re-election non promises to veto Obamacare and "build the damn wall!"

He lied just as Paul Ryan did and the Democrats certainly did. We are used to being lied to by politicians and maybe we needed a non-politician to finally do what he promised.

The continued obsession with Trump hate is interesting but I think it is an example of psychopathy. I do not think of these people as normal. Inga is stupid but people like Chuck, assuming he is not lying about being a lawyer, are not normal. This is an illness.

It was in a general sense. I'm in the Control Group, because that is how Science works. Never masked. Didn't shut down. Didn't distance. Because all the information needed was in the first presentation of the Health Bureaucrats, Birx and Fauci. They relied on 'models' for which they had no data to input. I was surprised that Trump didn't catch that.

I will ask you to forgive me for using you as a foil. We all can't be in the Control Group. It never occurred to me to ever get a flu shot. BTW...I'm healthy and doing well, as I hope you are too.

What do you think the odds are of the Republicans ever electing a president again?

Yancey Ward said...

I will answer for Hercules. Zero. Just witness what happened in Georgia today- Kemp signed the vote reform bill, a bill that shouldn't be needed if you believe all the horseshit coming out of the mouths of Georgia Republicans ever since November 3rd. They have shit in their beds, and the courts are going to take this bill and undo it just before the midterm elections. The Democrats play to win, and they can see that if they can win the minimum number of seats in the Senate in 2022, they can get rid of the filibuster, and pass any election bill they want. They can even pack SCOTUS to make sure no court can interfere with their plans.

It is over. Just to get rid of Trump, the Republicans cut their own throats. The Democrats are probably laughing their asses off at all the NeverTrumpers- let the Democrats fuck them in the ass, and then get a big thank you for it from people like Chuck.

Rt41Rebel- ..."even if the ideals of this country are worth fighting for... (see below)

Our Capitol City in Washington, DC has been a cesspit of corruption for a very long time.

The fight is not there.

The fight is in the individual States. Every State Teacher's College, and every School District is owned by the US Dept. of Education. Staffed top to bottom with deviants, the US Dept of Ed was clever. They offered money. Then they pulled the strings.

In the '80s, Reagan thought the biggest threat to America was the USSR. It wasn't. It was the nascent US Dept of Ed. Ignore DC. Focus on your State and the 10th Amend.

That's the point that God made. That's why Jesus was sent.

Pretty much. Democrats cannot risk anymore elections. They will allow a 3rd of the House and a 3rd of the Senate to remain Republican, just to keep appearances up.

I agree and I made a great decision two years ago. I'm a DeSantis fan-boi, but I'm gonna be pissed if they trot him out as the (R) sacrificial lamb in 2024. He is much more important as Gov here.

In fact, not just re WI generally, but Madtown specifically:

BTW, I’m assuming that the $90,000 bid by Boxertwin was actually Meadehouse.

Just as they ignore my recommendations re not having plastic-ish counters and railings and decking, they/d go for this crap car instead of a 991.2 4S.

Sheesh.

DeSantis is a strong Gov. Across the country, Americans appreciate him. He should stay a strong Gov, as you say, rather than be buried in a mountain of fraudulent Presidential ballots, now that Democrats know they can get away with it.

Any bets on whether the fainting nannas will take the same position on this effort to disrupt a government function?

No problem.

I get a flu shot every year because one year, at the ancient age of 28, I started feeling a bit off on New Year's Eve. I cut the festivities short and went home.

The next morning I couldn't get out of bed, hurt all over and could barely breathe.
This persisted for not one, but 3 full days.
I could barely walk around the block without resting for the next week.

I got a flu shot to avoid that experience. Or at least improve my odds of avoiding it.

This is the third article I've seen in 3 weeks attacking science from the left.
Like the other articles, it specifically attacks the "falsifiabiity" criteria of the scientific method, the author is not a scientist and the "blame" for the doctrine of falsifiability is placed on the shoulders of Karl Popper.
http://bostonreview.net/science-nature-philosophy-religion/michael-d-gordin-quest-tell-science-pseudoscience

There are a lot of political fads that can't be called science because they aren't falsifiable. Systemic racism, Anthropogenic Global Warming, current theories about gender, etc.
"Falsifiability" was not invented by Popper in the 20th century. It has been an implicit part of the scientific method since Bacon first discussed natural science in the 17th century.
Bacon's most important contribution was to insist that only empirical data be used in observation of natural phenomenon.
The article is a mess (it was written by a history prof). The reason we insist on falsifiability is because that is the only way to distinguish science from pseudo science. The alternative is stick the word "science" on any explanation for natural phenomenon that is consistent with our observations, that is, science becomes a narrative that fits empirical sense data. It turns science into story-telling, and this was the problem Popper tried to solve when he emphasized the "falsifiability" requirement for scientific truth.
This is really, really bad. Empirical evidence can, for example, confirm many racist ideas and other pseudoscience. Without falsifiability, statements about "scientific truth" become statements about narrative control, meaning power.
In Nineteen Eighty-Four, Winston Smith told O'Brien tht Big Brother did not control everything in the universe because his power was confined to the Earth, and the Earth was a small place compared to the universe. O'Brien responded that was nonsense, the stars and planets were just lights in the sky, useful to Big Brother only for navigation and time keeping. They had no reality other than that which Big Brother gave them.

Reminds me of a Bones episode. Booth and Bones go to LA to handle a high profile case there. Back at the Jeffersonian lab, the Director steps in to cover for Bones in identifying an ancient body. Hodges, the triple hard science PhD, is stuck working with the Director, who is a regular anthropologist (contrasted with Bones who as a forensic anthropologist does real science). The Director keeps writing his narratives, based on the scant evidence at hand (e.g. “he was a strong Hunter, respected by the community...”). Drives Hodges crazy, who refuses to go beyond the real science.

Falsification is under attack, because some, if not much, of the “science” that supports the massive programs the Dems are trying to shove through either cannot be falsified (Climate Change), and is thus not science, but rather wishful thinking or religion, or have been falsified already (Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Cooling, then Warming). They are demanding that we flush trillions of dollars down the drain, and destroy our hard fought energy dependence, over what turns out to be essentially religion, and not science (unfalsifiable Climate Change).

Always keep that it mind. Whenever you hear “Climate Change” as an excuse for doing anything, realize that the use of that term is an admission that there is no science behind it, but rather it is essentially a religious claim. Neither Climate Change, nor God, can be proven or disproven. Climate Change is unfalsifiable. It is a post hac explanation of past events, that inevitably fails when predictions are based on it. When religion clashes with science, those adhering to the Religion traditionally try to discredit science, as was done with Galileo, and is being done today with Climate Change.

Bruce Hayden said...

“There are a lot of political fads that can't be called science because they aren't falsifiable. ...Anthropogenic Global Warming...”

I would suggest just the opposite with Anthropogenic Global Warming. There was a theory. It predicted continued warming. It predicted warming when, going forward, there wasn’t any real warming. New, better, predictions were made. Ditto. The theory failed to predict the future. It was falsifiable, and then falsified. It turns up that CO2 buildup cannot really be shown to be the driving force behind global temperatures. Rather, using multivariate correlation, it very much appears that the primary drivers are: solar activity, distance of Earth to the Sun, wobble of the inclination of the Earth in its orbit around the Sun, and El Niño/La Niña (that last surprised me). Astrophysicists have been saying this all along. These effects are inevitably ignored by most of the climate models that predicted global cooling, then global warming, based on CO2 buildup. Which, of course, is ludicrous, since very obviously the primary determinant of global temperature is going to be how much energy is received, and where. Probably no surprise though, since the paleo climatologists (tree ring counters) have long been the gatekeepers to the climate science field (Michael Mann, Phil Jones, etc). Notably, for a long time, physicists and esp astrophysicists were not considered, by these gatekeepers, to be climate scientists. Remember all the survey showing that 97% of climate scientists believed in CAGW? That was the tree ring counters. The astrophysicists were excluded from the survey.
