It's -1° — feels like -12° — here in Madison, Wisconsin, so I'm pretty much stuck indoors today, but...

... I still can't picture myself turning on the television and watching the damned impeachment trial.

It's just this impeachment and that lying son-of-a-bitch Trump.

Me too. Fortunately I have a full day of work today. Probably will skip the dinner time news for the same reason - not interested in the Left's explanation of the trial.

Doesn't a trial require evidence to be presented?

It was -17 for a low this morning. Coldest of the year so far!

I don't want to be one of those who spouts his Florida Gulf Coast temperature to you at this time of year, so I won't (this time). But damn...you should consider a one month rental next year. You could be outside walking in the sun, or on a beach, or in some wooded watery area with bobcats and weird, but beautiful Florida fowl, and an occasional wild hog (no...not my neighbor). Sure, it's not a winter wonderland, but it's not bad having lunch at a nice outdoor cafe.

We are in the American version of the French Revolution. King Louis is on trial. The good news is it *is* the American version. The left always forgets that. And it implies something no other preceding Revolution encountered: the Don’t Tread On Me spine of this country.

This revolution has already failed. This impeachment is a joke.

I get my natural gas from the mountain. Over the weekend, I had to snowplow up the trails to get to the wells. Ground was not frozen yet. Buried the tractor more than once. Snow is an incredible insulator. Hopefully with zero degree temps and fairly clear trails, the ground will freeze.

(I fracked before doofus Joe was emancipated.)

On the other hand, you could picture yourself abstaining.

I did that two days ago when it was -4 or so. Bracing! All you need is the right gear.

Test if you can feel nose hairs freezing and unfreezing as you breathe. There's a slight movement generated by the state change.

Today's topics do not interest me.

If, on a future day, Trump's team will address the election-fraud issue, then that will interest me.

The chief effect of very low temperatures (not wind chill) is aerobic load caused by having to heat each lungful to body temperature. That takes from your overall aerobic capacity for other things.

Two key issues, both require real live witnesses. One, what did Trump know prior to the rally about the intentions of the crowd. Two, how did he react to the violence and why did he wait 2 plus hours before doing anything.

But the dems are saying:
1 no witnesses needed because everyone saw what happened. Stupid argument. The senators saw people storming the Capitol, but they are not being impeached.
2. what's the point - he will be acquitted anyways. This argument is so ridiculous it doesn't even require a response.

There should be a real trial or why bother.

As for me, I look forward to Althouse parsing the NYT coverage of the affair. I won't watch it either.

I wonder if Trump will watch. My guess is that he won't; it's probably too nice a day in Florida to stay inside and watch TV.

What Happened to Officer Brian Sicknick?, by Julie Kelly, published yesterday by American Greatness.

The article's conclusion:

Comments from Sicknick’s family also raise legitimate suspicions about what happened to their loved one.

“Many details regarding Wednesday’s events and the direct causes of Brian’s injuries remain unknown, and our family asks the public and the press to respect our wishes in not making Brian’s passing a political issue,” his older brother wrote in a statement released January 8.

The family issued another brief statement thanking Democratic Congressional leaders for bestowing the “historic honor” of lying Sicknick’s remains in the Capitol and his subsequent burial at Arlington National Cemetery.

Democrats undoubtedly will present lots of optics this week related to Sicknick’s tragic death but Republican lawmakers, Trump’s legal team, and the media must demand more evidence. There is, of course, a chance that the FBI is having trouble identifying any suspects from the more than 200,000 tips it has gleaned so far — although one must wonder why a nationwide manhunt is finding Trump supporters charged with trespass misdemeanors, and not a heartless cop killer instead.

The more likely explanation is that Sicknick wasn’t murdered but died of other causes that neither law enforcement nor the family wants made public. It’s certainly the family’s prerogative to keep it secret; it is not, however, acceptable for the FBI to continue avoiding questions while at the same time feeding the public a false account of what happened to him. And since the medical examiner’s office hadn’t confirmed the cause of death, it’s beyond irresponsible for anyone, particularly a reporter, to describe it as murder.

The Left, as past and present show, will stop at nothing to destroy Donald Trump and vilify his supporters. No one should discount the idea that Democrats and the news media would intentionally promote a totally fabricated story or use as a prop an untimely death to satisfy that mission.

And since Democrats included the “murder” of Brian Sicknick in its bill of particulars against the president, the impeachment trial, ironically, offers the only opportunity for Trump and his defenders to clear the air on Sicknick’s death — it’s an opportunity they should not waste.

77 here in Florida, on the way to 82. Had to cut short the walk this morning because of the humidity, which is not normal for this time of year. Not watching the democrat shit show either. I swear, these people are over reaching to such an extent that Trump may be able to win a senate seat in 22 while he's waiting to run for his second term.

I don't get it. It seems Althouse reads the NYTs, Wash Post, and the New Yorker on a daily basis. What the difference?

They are a propaganda sham, and so is the impeachment.

I'm going to watch and mime Gin Miller's Everybody Steps today with the old lady. Snow clearing after sunset.

I also clear the snow for my wheelchair bound neighbor who happens to be a Trumper. We don't discuss politics, but he does tell me about every neighbor and what they do or don't do. He has all sorts of ancillary medical issues that my wife helps guide him through.

Yesterday I cleared my place and the neighbors then swam 2,000-yardsat the community center. That was a rough workout. After supper, taking the TB12 advise, I used a Finn Hook massage tool to work out the kinks. It did have a relaxing and invigorating effect.

It's easy to avoid the stupid Kubota trial. We all know Trump is going to be acquittaled. Avoid the stress don't let the algorithms win.

The dental assistant working on my new/first crown last week said she lived in Alaska for 16 years, reared her children there. She has had enough of this crap. But that is February in Iowa. Longest month of the year. Its still kind of nice now. We have been getting new snow almost everyday. 1 inch or less, so the landscape keeps getting refreshed. Pleasant in that way. After a couple of days acclimating to the temps not to far from zero, I have started leaving my heavy coat in the car, and going about my business in a light sweatshirt. (remote start makes that doable.

After tagging the Texas Election Fraud Lawsuit in the Supreme Court as “lawsuits I hope will fail” isn’t Althouse somewhat obligated to watch Impeachment Proceedings she indirectly supported?

Even last night entertaining the possibility of Trump’s “guilt” hinging on what did he know, and when did he know it…she seems to believe the proceedings are legitimate.

But in sympathy it will be painful for everyone as it is another step in the Democrat destruction of our Constitutional Republic and voting franchise.

Only the truly TDS psychotic won’t squirm.

I had to read a CNN article to that effect aloud to my mother and sister who are convinced he was beaten to death with a fire extinguisher. The longer the delay of the autopsy report, the more likely it had nothing whatever to do with the protests.

Every time I see this I think of a comic whose name I can't recall who had a bit about Reality Police where he would step into a situation flash a badge and say something like "Flannigan. Reality" in a "Friday. LAPD" manner and procede to untangle the situation with the application of common sense.

Up here in my neck of the woods, NE CA, we had a heat wave this morning. It was 25 degrees! (instead of 15) and rising to maybe 48 in the sun this afternoon.

I wouldn't watch the impeachment sham even if my eyes were taped open (ala Clockwork Orange) There are more constructive ways to spend time. Paring toenails comes to mind.

Inside today too!! Who wants to go outside and break their neck on frozen melted snow?

I'm painting some various patched areas in our sheet rock throughout the house. Then repainting all the window sills/trim and door trim. After 20+ years it is time to spruce up the joint. This was sort of a big challenge since matching the to the old paint (eggshell in the living areas and semi gloss enamel in the bathroom and kitchen ...and the window/door trim) to a formula that was lost and obsolete anyway required several samples. Then a sample board of the various colors to be put against the walls at different times of day to see how they all looked in sun and shadow and artificial light. (Actually, I love doing this stuff!)

Then for dinner, garlic shrimp scampi linguini. Salad and dessert. Italian creme cheese coffee cake. (made yesterday)

Being inside isn't so bad 😁

America's days of thanks to Donald Trump for instituting policies that developed covid vaccines at warp speed really begin tomorrow Wednesday, February 10, 2021 when the Senate will gather for a formal vote of thanks, extending over 32 hours in order to give everyone a chance to thank Trump properly. Tributes are expected to flow in from all quarters and will be extensively reported by the media. 10% of the US population has been vaccinated. World Wide 132,700,000 doses have been distributed. And thus, led by the Democratic party, we begin to thank Donald Trump for his efforts.

On an iPad or iPhone: from the numbers alternate keyboard, hold down the 0 (zero) key for a few seconds until the subsidiary menu appears, then select the degree sign from the list (as opposed to the zero symbol).

If using an Apple-style keyboard — bluetooth versions of which also work on iPads and iPhones — type Shift-Alt-8 (or Shift-Option-8).

Read an interesting NPR article on John Brown. He was convicted of insurrection which he denied. He stated that he intended to set free a group of enslaved Americans on the property of Lewis Washington and peacefully lead them in a convoy to Canada and freedom. He had done this in Missouri and intended to repeat the exploit. "I never did intend murder, or treason, or the destruction of property, or to excite or incite slaves to rebellion, or to make insurrection." The court found him guilty of insurrection and hung him. Robert E Lee headed the guard at the site and John Wilkes Booth was a part of the Virginia militia there. That's why the famous song about John Brown says:
"They hung him as a traitor/
Themselves the traitor crew/"

I occupied the day thinking of different ways to spend the tribute check with which they hope to buy my loyalty. I'll send a bit to struggling conservative media outlets. But what I want to do is support local businesses. Spring flowers like daffodils and hyacinths from the local garden store won't soak up much because there's just a little room on the table by the window (where they look great against the snow.) I have a struggling azalea I'm encouraging. Its buds bloomed half-way but now seem to want to go back in for six weeks like the groundhog. And I have a rampant cactus of some kind that nothing discourages. Over water in winter, under water in summer - it loves it all. It's grown till it's crawling over the edge of its cup trying to reach the snow of the other side of the window. "You wouldn't like it," I tell it. When I got tired of the azalea, I read new facts about John Brown on NPR (Insurrectionist or Martyr?); and then I read about the events of 1857 in India. These used to be called "the Indian Mutiny" but the more correct term now seems to be "Sepoy Rebellion." But I think I'll get the azalea going before I find some history to help me make out what's going on in DC. Seems unique. Or else, common as dirt and corruption. 1 AD - After Democracy.
