"It truly feels as though you and I have crossed an ocean of outrage together… but something tells me it’s time to rest my social media gavel and reclaim a little neurological bandwidth."

"If it seemed like I was ignoring my main Twitter followers here and outside the US and Canada in my quest to rid our democracy of 'Orange Julius Caesar' and his Empire of Lies, it was not my intention. I just assumed that a radicalized America is a threat to us all. When a madman grabs the wheel of the bus loaded with innocent passengers and threatens to drive it off a cliff, it tends to steal everyone’s focus."

Jim Carrey lets us know he's giving it a rest. He needs to get his brain back. He's not the only one. But don't get complacent. Who's driving the bus now... and is it really loaded with innocent passengers? Just because you could focus all your fear of evil on one person doesn't mean that when he's gone you've got nothing to fear. I recommend maintaining your equilibrium at all times.

My link goes to a NY Post article about his tweet, but the actual tweet came in a form that made some people think he was about to kill himself:

Don't bother arguing with Robert Cook. His position is that if you support Trump, you support everything he says and does, and everything he ever said and did. You know, like the Obama cult. Cookie projects his cult-like approach to everyone else, looking for daddy in the form of a politician to tell him "it will all be okay." He doesn't understand that many if not most Trump supporters are not like Obama sycophants and are not particularly thrilled with the man and his personal failings (he certainly has his share), but are totally on board for his policies and relentless pursuit of an American ideal that resonates with at least 75 million people. Not all of us are as willing to live on our knees as some regular posters on this board.

"WTF? Republicans continually criticized Trump. Mitch did it just the other day. On this very blog a number of righties criticized Trump, from way back in 2016, including yours truly. At no point did I think Trump was 'swell.'"

Griping on a blog is not "criticizing" the president. That's just bullshitting. I'm talking about the public making stern demands on the president if he is failing to serve the people's interests. I'm talking about things like Trump's supporters booing him at gatherings because he failed to bring manufacturing jobs back from overseas. In public, Trump supporters were never anything less than boot-licking sycophants to Trump's every crude joke and pandering promise. There was no substantive criticism of Trump by his supporters or by the Republicans in Congress. I'm talking about the kind of criticism LBJ received in the 60s from young people who opposed his war policy. They were almost certainly more likely to be supporters of the Democrats than the Republicans, but they weren't having what the Democrats were serving them. Similarly, there was no substantive criticism of Obama by his supporters or by the Democrats.

As I said, most Americans complacently sit back and accept as ambrosia whatever shit their president (or politician) of choice feeds them, whichever party they belong to.

You abolish it. Then tell me how you’ll enforce the law that makes abortion illegal.

Throw anyone caught performing one in jail for twenty years. Give the women a suspended sentence. They go to jail after their second one.

"Talking about abortion is all very cutting edge..."

What...you're not a fan of '90s talk radio? : )

He grew up in Canada, so wouldn't have "Orange Julius" in his meme bank.
Too bad, every missed joke is a tiny tragedy.

Inga the State's Handmaid wonders if I can write a post without my "buzzwords." You mean like "liberty" and "statism"? Guess not. That "liberty" is a buzzword you ought to look into.

Jim Carrey is proof that Canada doesn't export its best. Maybe he should go back and do stand up comedy in Moosejaw.

“When he’s gone”

Except he’s not. Not even close. Embrace the silence.
