I agree that she wasn’t intending to make a completely figured statement that she wanted to claim was fully sorted. I had that feeling from the get-go in this thread.

If I was less of a jerk, I’d cut more slack. And I considered doing so, even before the first comment re this.

OTOH, she has been in these threads jabbering about how she interacts w/ some lib snowflake type people sometimes I figured that it may help her to remember that she can be a little loose w/ connecting dots herself. You want to claim “links” over the last year, you better be able to fill in what you are linking to. She cannot do that. At least she cannot do that using logic and reality re “links” to the actions of folks trying to overturn a legitimate election and thereby destroy our democracy/Constitution, not to mention trashing the Capitol (unless the pointing finger re “links” gets aimed at DJT and his supporters in media and political office, which seems unlikely from Freeman).

Anywho, I bet she’ll be less sloppy in future threads.

Or she’ll do what Doc Mike does when he sees that I’m around (like he did in this thread), and run away from particular threads where BS piss poor comments may be called out.

JPS,

Why don’t you tell us what institutional actions over the last year are linked to DJT supporters wanting to overturn a legitimate election and therefore our nation/democracy/Constitution, and trash the Capitol of our country?

>Ahnold- So far as I am concerned, he was a decent governor of that ungovernable state,

With the current 1 party super majority it’s getting worse and worse. The degree of incompetence and virtue signaling is almost beyond belief. And I think it will get worse.

And that's the problem, isn't it? The day after the Inauguration.

The guy had been President for all of one day and "the Resistance" started. Which means that the day after the Inauguration, you and 4 million of your buddies took a shit on the long American tradition of respecting the peaceful transfer of power to a different party.

What other American traditions are you and your buddies planning to take a shit on?

gadfly,

IIRC, the surname was Drumpf, not Trumpf.

Inga,

For the umpteenth time, the reason that Trump (and many others, though he's the only one now remembered) said that Obama was born in Kenya is that Obama's publisher said that Obama was born in Kenya. (Also his Columbia student ID, IIRC, but the publisher was the one that mattered.) Just as people accused Hilary/"Hilaria" Baldwin of saying that she was born in Spain because her publisher said she was born in Spain. (Again, there was a lot of other info also there, including her, what, dozen or so interviews with Hola! --sorry, no upside-down exclamation points here -- and the like, but the publisher was the biggest one.)

Forgive my ignorance, but aren't the people tasked with editing entire book manuscripts to be trusted to get the info on the frakkin' back cover correct? Or what? The only part of the book most people will ever read is the one bit we entrust entirely to moronic interns on their first day at work?

It was worse than that. The teachers' union mortgaged their Sacramento headquarters building to get money to spend. Then, like a fool, he scheduled it as a Special Election. Nobody votes in special elections but partisans and advocates. Had he scheduled the propositions for the June primary, they might have won.

Then he surrendered and smoked cigars the rest of his term.

What can you mean? I've been reading Althouse for more than a decade, not every day but nearly so, and I have never seen your name until four or five days ago. How any of us could know to run away because Big Bad Sprezz is on the prowl, so stop it with that egregious "sloppiness" and "piss-poor-ness," I don't know. Or do you mean that Mike knows you from other blogs, and you really have only just shown up here? If so, I ought to tell him not to bring, er, friends like yourself around :-)

FWIW, Freeman Hunt has been both the most consistently sane poster on this thread and a mainstay of this blog for a very long time. She has neither cause nor (IMO) need to apologize to you.

One more thing. A few years ago Trump had a fit against Ahnold. Trump was excoriating him.

I got in touch, and told him to leave Arnold alone. People grew up with Arnold. People love his movies. People love Arnold. Let it go. It's form over substance. It's Hollywood illusion. I don't know who Ahnold is. Love his movies though.

Trump let it go. Stopped the tirade. I think Stephen Miller clued him in. (I helped)

So we won't get rid of him because he has always been a psychopath, with a not-very-nice public persona until this was perceived as anti-establishment. But he is not very smart and his weird ideas on trade and dominating other countries brings us to war or economic depression or both. But no matter what the future holds, the Trump Gang will always be loyal sheep.

The only way Donald Trump will leave office in the next eight year will absolutely involve his wearing a toe tag.

MDT,

As an expert of this blog, you probably know that it’s very easy to change the name that you use here. But, the whatever the name is, it always links back to the account. I’ve had well over a dozen names. Sometimes taking my inspiration from other commenters. For example, Meade once declared me a “liar” so I used that as part of my name for a long time.

Anywho, I go back to April of 2008 when I landed here after being permanently banned from MyDD and TalkLeft because I was too mean to liberals when I trashed HRC.

Anyanywho, is it possible that you don’t have as much info re me as you think you do? You definitely misunderstood me if you think I want Freeman to apologize. I just want her to type things that she can support, rather than typing BS that gives her brain a happy jolt, but is shit re reality and facts.

I like Arnold as an actor. He has been the star of some of the greatest action movies ever made. He has also done much for the body building and strongman competitions. However, when it comes to actors I am generally wary of accepting their opinion on, well, anything unless they have proven to me that they have expertise in the area. Arnold's time as governor of California should actually give him some expertise on this matter, but he proved to be unprincipled, easily bullied, and ineffective. This is what I actually expected from Trump, by the way, but you never know about these things. So, sorry, I am not going to watch a video by him about politics. He has nothing to offer.

Oh well.

I think Arnold is trying to save face in Hollywood. I have no personal knowledge, but something tells me that it has become increasingly like East Berlin.

Sprezzatura,

"JPS,

"Why don’t you tell us what institutional actions over the last year are linked to DJT supporters wanting to overturn a legitimate election and therefore our nation/democracy/Constitution, and trash the Capitol of our country?"

If I began by considering the media an institution, as they certainly consider themselves, would you have any idea what I was talking about? Because by and large they're no longer trying to be neutral. They're proud of not being so. But among journalists who are not explicitly conservative, only those so far to the left that they're disgusted with Democrats for not being further left are willing to scrutinize Democrats with the same skepticism they show Republicans.

"If I was less of a jerk,"

Do try. Points for self-awareness, anyway.

Arnold Swarzeneggar and Alec Baldwin. Movie stars.

If either one are on a marquee, I'm going to that movie. In their own way, they allow for the suspending of disbelief, so that the viewer becomes a witness to that which is presented on the screen.

Not just a viewer, but a witness. I see it. For 90 minutes, I believe it. The actors ARE who they present themselves on the screen.

News media is the same. A News anchor. Nice suit. Calm and reassuring. Good voice.

The viewer becomes a witness to that which is presented on the screen.

I'm Not Sure said...

Those who don't like Trump much seem to not talk about "an election" nearly as much as they do "a legitimate election". It's almost like they're trying to convince themselves.

Sprezzatura said...

JPS,

So, according to you, the media has, especially over the last year (while DJT was downplaying COVID and suggesting film flam remedies/injections instead of doing what most of the rest of the world did, which is why our country has been shit when comparing re other similar countries (see my link up thread re deaths per 100,000 population if you (like Drago) are living in a information bubble that blocks reality)), exposed liar-DJT and his attempts encourage the destruction of our representative democracy and Constitution, and that’s why DJT’s followers want to destroy our representative democracy and Constitution. Because the MSM warned them? If DJT’s BS had not been identified by the media, then DJT loon followers would not have followed him, according to you.

Got it.

Sprezzatura said...

That is not my argument. You are tiresome, and unearnedly pleased with yourself.

Sprezzatura said...

“That is not my argument. “

Your argument is exactly that the media showed that DJT was a F-up (e.g. re COVID in America v the world (see my link up thread re deaths per 100,000 population for different countries) when DJT was denying there was a problem and/or pushing film flam remedies/injections), and that made his followers decide that they wanted more of that, they dug in to support F-ed up-ness.

Technically, you’re right that I don’t know exactly how dumb (i.e. the exact IQ level) people need to be such that they fall into this foolish thinking cycle that you are suggesting was their motivation. But really dumb is for sure.

I guess you really showed me.

Sprezzatura said...

The media told you that DJT was shit. Now that it’s finally occurring to some of you (after DJT tries to overturn a legitimate election and therefore destroy our democracy/constitution, and he incites trashing the Capitol) that DJT is shit, you blame the media for pointing out DJT is shit before you realized it because you are mentally slow, or something.

What a shitty selfdefense.

Can none of you do better?

Sprezzatura said...

Personal responsibility.

Admit ya F-ed up. Don’t blame others for you.

Gotta do it.

Sprezzatura said...

If the media tells you it’s not a good idea to jump off a cliff, and that makes you decide to jump off a cliff and die, it’s a stretch to blame the media for your poor decision when you ignored the warning.

Just sayin’

Years ago, Antifa began blocking streets in Portland, OR. If you tried to break their blockade, they attacked your vehicle and you, if they could get ahold of you. Some elderly drivers had no idea what to do when faced with masked terrorists blocking the street. Those elderly people tried to flee, and were attacked and beaten.

The Proud Boys began as an antidote to Antifa. The news media immediately labeled them 'far-right' and 'racists'. What did Nancy Pelosi and the news media call the Tea Party? Far-right and racists. What did Democrats and the news media call Newt Gingrich's Republican Revolution in 1994? First it was 'America had a temper tantrum', but then it was far-right and racist.

Are you seeing the theme here?

I guess I should not be surprised that not a single progressive leftist has expressed any concern over the execution of the poor woman in the Capital Building, not even Mr. Empathy himself. "Execution" you say, "there is no such evidence." For those who believe this, take look at the video that clearly shows the shooter very carefully taking aim before he shoots her as she stands in the hallway.
