"It makes me think of the famous quote from General Patton: 'The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.' It makes me think of this song lyric that I heard over and over when I was young: 'Come on fathers, and don't hesitate/To send your sons off before it's too late/You can be the first ones in your block/To have your boy come home in a box.'"
Things written by me, just now, in comments to a post on Facebook, put up by my son John, linking to and quoting "Trump: Americans Who Died in War Are ‘Losers’ and ‘Suckers’/The president has repeatedly disparaged the intelligence of service members, and asked that wounded veterans be kept out of military parades, multiple sources tell The Atlantic."

First and foremost, Trump actually said almost none of the most outrageous things he’s been accused of saying. His critics regularly lie about him.
Second, when Trump lies, it’s obnoxious and annoying, but it has to be put in the larger picture of his full list of duties, accomplishments, and failures. It counts against him, but only so much. Whereas when the media lies, they fail at their one and only job. If they lie, then there is no reason to have them at all.
Moderators off for the day.
Military adventures are bad. Social justice (i.e. relativistic, elective, Pro-Choice) adventures are worse and claim more lives in war and peace than any other philosophical construct.
This is a Susan Hennessey operation all the way. If you dont know who she is, look under Lawfare.
Link to Althouse’s son? That’s a joke, right?
AA once again asks “how do you know?” As she did about the existence of Antifa.
Some of us are able to pierce the fog of obtuseness.
you seem to revel in it, Althouse.
If McCain wasn't the son and grandson of Admirals he wouldn't have ever been flying in Nam is the first place. McCain would have washed out in flight school after over shooting the flight line during training and landing in the bay.
He would have lost his wings flying stunts in Italy and flying in to power lines.
He would have lost his wings after destroying a jet flying to the Army Navy game.
The guy destroyed three Navy planes long before being shot down in Nam.

He would not have even been in the Navy, most likely. Unless he had enlisted to dodge the draft (as I did)
Then he would have been one of those guys who served 20 years and never made it past e-5.
OT but I just finihsed Peter Buell's bio of Fleet Admiral Ernest King. Excellent throughout.
King was CNO and CinC during WWII. With Marshall, the highest military authority. I knew a bit about him but not a lot. Dan Carlin's latest Hardcore History talked about him a bit and made me want to find out more.
The book talks some about McCain's grandfather "Slew" McCain who must have done something right to make it to 4 stars.
McCain the naval officer was a perfect shit.

Does it matter to me if : Trump had said he didn’t want to visit Aisne-Marne because the interred heroes were “losers” and “suckers”,
yes - proves that he is a deeply perceptive man and of good judgment.
any wars (an allegedly freedom loving country) fights with mixed volunteer and conscript forces raises 2 questions >>> who among the fighting soldiers made the moral/praise worthy choice?
Trump - as someone who successfully avoided that choice - proving he is not sucker or loser - all kudos to Trump - this would certainly be his evaluation - sadness for the conscripted and not so much for the volunteers if they did not make it back.

And then, after an outstanding career, he was sent home in semi-disgrace as the scapegoat for Halsey's monumental fuckup in the typhoon that killed a bunch of sailors because "Bull" didn't pay attention to weather reports. Halsey should have been court martialed and cashiered but the newspapers liked him and called him "Bull." McCain died soon after returning to the states.
[John McCain] destroyed three Navy planes long before being shot down in Nam.
Only North Vietnamese antiaircraft fire kept him from being an ace — for North Vietnam.
Written by a Biden apologist who still believes the hoax dossier is real and that the russians colluded with Trump and even changed actual vote totals in our election systems.
You've confused me with someone else.

People make the natural error of confusing you with the things that you say. They mistakenly assume that you are sincere and not just a piss-taking shitkicker. If somebody shot Robert Cook in the face for his posts, he could die knowing that he always played his own corner. If someone shot you in the face for yours, what would you have died for?
