Did not watch the convention.

The polling on riots must be terrible for democrats if the NYT is reporting them straight now.

The real danger to the Democrats isn’t just lost votes, but the number of people being pushed to *openly* support Trump. That could shatter the narrative and cause a preference cascade.

I supported a fringe candidate last time. Not this time. Biden is too vacant, too weak to control the crazies in his party. I'd really prefer a better option than Trump. Trump >> Biden.

I've been enjoying the political posts and comments here lately, but haven't had much time to participate. I'll simply say that two things have surprised me.

1) The excellent quality of the Republican convention, contrasted with the laughably poor quality of the Democratic convention. Remember the night Biden was nominated in a small school room with a few people cheering, and some balloons falling down? It was an embarrassment. The RNC did an exceptional job, both with production values and with the diversity and quality of the speeches. And Trump hasn't even spoken yet. The R's have blown the D's out of the water.

2) How quickly the political narrative has changed. The Dems are clearly panicking, and it felt like today was a tipping point for some reason. The momentum on the Republican side is palpable. Today I saw one interview excerpt each with Biden and Harris. Both of them look like they are in way over their heads. I've never seen such a pathetic ticket in my life. For the first time in a long while, I'm optimistic about Trump's chances.

I have been thinking about the BLM’ers going into the Washington DC restaurants this past week. While I think some of the patrons are down with BLM and enthusiastic supporters, I wonder if some of the others are doing it due to Stockholm Syndrome, due to living in a city where they are subjected to BLM propaganda 24/7. Basically, just like the “educating” of our children in their formative years by liberal teachers & professors. Any opinions from the Althousians?

I do believe that part of the Democrats support the riots, and that the majority of the party has been afraid to confront or criticize that faction. To me that taints the whole party. I hope the GOP can pin the riot tail on the donkeys, because they deserve it. It will be hard to in the face of media mendacity.

A good, little used word is complaisance. We are seeing complaisance offered, and driving behavior, and being exploited. That can change, suddenly. That is why the real danger to the Democrats right now isn’t losing votes, it’s the bubble of complaisance and cowardice bursting. It’s actions like diners saying, no I won’t raise my fist that can kill Biden's campaign faster than anything, because they reveal the false preferences.

Mark: "I didn't dare click away to see, but I wonder if all of the networks aired Ann Dorn or if any of them dumped out of their coverage, like ABC did whenever Black men came on last night."

It doesn't matter.

Every republican national convention presentation, speech, commercial is already designed for broad commercial distribution in ads for targeted messaging to different parts of the nation.

This was supposed to be a convention destined to fail during ChiCom flu, but instead I have never before seen such a brilliant arrangement and weaving together coherent messages that speak directly to the heart of the American people, illuminate with no hiding allowed what LLR-lefty Chuck's beloved dems are up to in terms so irrefutable only sputtering will emit from the pie-holes of the democratical slobs, and destroy the media's and dems (but I repeat myself) carefully constructed false persona they have painted of Trump.

This convention will set a new standard and by 2024 both parties will be using this precise framework and even then, we will have absolute zero's like LLR-lefty Chuck trying to explain how it was really the democrats all along with their establishment puke "republicans" (who are all publicly on board Team Dem for 2020, as they were in 2016...and 2012...and 2008) that deserve all the credit for changing how political parties speak to the nation.

People who were triggered by Trump's coarseness dove into everything from pussy hats to Russia, and they felt 100% virtuous and superior to Trump and to anyone who would vote for him. Now their reward is Joe Biden, and that can't be reconciled with their lofty impressions of themselves.

On Sunday, November 29, 2009, a black man, Maurice Clemmons, killed four police officers, ambush style, in a coffee shop in Lakewood, WA. I don't recall that policemen all over the country started rioting and looting, breaking windows and setting property on fire. So I read the criminal complaint against the 17 yo kid. Charged with 1st degree reckless for Rosenbaum (the 1st dead guy) plus some related charges, first degree intentional homicide for Huber ( the 2nd dead guy), and first degree attempted homicide for the third guy. Head to see how the facts support the latter two charges.

The complaint also summarized the autopsies. Rosenbaum had several bullet wounds, the two most serious to the back, through a lung and liver, and another that shattered his pelvis. Superficial graze to thigh and graze to head. Also hole in left hand.

Huber was shot once in the chest and the bullet went aorta, heart, lung. He was probably dead before he dropped.

Jupiter said...

I have been investigating the matter, and it appears that under American law, as practiced in all 50, there simply is no right to use deadly force to protect property. If rioters are throwing Molotov cocktails at your home or business, the only situation in which you are justified in using deadly force against them is if human lives are in danger. Otherwise, you are supposed to let them burn it down, because their lives are more important than your property.

I like how you guys act like blacks have NO JUSTIFICATION. for their anger - but you historical killers are justified in everything you think, feel, or do.

"but you historical killers are justified in everything you think, feel, or do."

The history begins around 1492 with the European explosion and its conquest of the Earth. I'm sitting here in one of those places which supplied a disproprtionate number of those conquerors.

A lot of non-European peoples did not do so well as a result.

But for us it was a glorious adventure. And of course there is the ancient right of conquest and the rule of vae victis.

And it created the world, entirely, for Europeans and non-Europeans everywhere. Not one square foot of the Earth (if you subscribe to AGW theory, or you count electromagnetic emissions) is unaffected by the consequences of 1492.

buwaya said...

There are honorable ways to accomodate oneself, or ones peooles, to conquest.
One is to organize, fight and defeat the conquerors.

A very few of these peoples actualy did that. Your people should be honoring the Ethiopians for their ferocious and effective military resistance.

The Siamese did the same through remarkably brilliant diplomacy. Their kings and royal advisors do not get the credit they deserve.

Another is to join the conquerors wholeheartedly.

Another is to adapt and remodel your society to gain enough power to make conquest unappealing.

But most of those are not practical for you, a small and poor minority in a vastly powerful country.

What is not going to work, ever, is to live by whining and appealing to your conquerors guilt and compassion. You will thereby just become a sort of pet, and not a good pet. The sort of creatures that their owners really dont like, but would feel guilty about abandoning.

Best I think if your demand is for an independent state which you can settle, make your own way in the world, and run as you see fit. Some of those 1960s radicals had the right idea.

I think I echo the various ideas of revolutionary Black Nationalists (Malcolm X, at least at some point, Carmichael, etc.) plus I take into account the problem of Black Nationalism in a polity where the black population is widely dispersed among a non-black majority. That is, it is impossible to be Nationalist under such circumstances, one cannot be a separate country while intermingled so closely with a majority of foreigners.

Yes, these people were rather absurd, sympathetic as I am to some of them. They needed a territory, first, in order to be independent and thus properly a people. This was Theodor Herzl's argument. You need a black Israel.

As for this idea being Nazi - well, all of these movements, including Hitler's AND Herzl's were based on very similar ideas, of ethnic essentialism. This was the justification for the reappearance of Poland, the breakdown of the Habsburg Empire, of Wilson's 14 points, of the crackup of Yugoslavia and of most anticolonial national independence movements. Were these people all Nazis? Arguably they were, even some of those the actual Nazis later invaded, like the Czechs and the Poles. It certainly includes the Malays and Indonesians and Sri Lankans.
