And by "relish" you must mean enjoy looking on from the distance I am eager to put between me and this activity.
"I look forward to seeing how this department moves forward through the process of re-envisioning public safety. I relish the work that will be done by all of you," said Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best, quoted in "Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best announces resignation/Best's resignation comes after the Seattle City Council voted to cut spending for the Seattle Police Department on Monday" (at King5).

An often-heard 80s phrase: "bite the weenie with relish".
THEOLDMAN
Sweet, never dill. And fresh if available.
That is an unusual use of the word "relish." Presumably, he is pre-schadenfreuding, dropping a little dig as he prepares to laugh at their anticipated struggles and failures. While I can appreciate the sentiment, it doesn't quite work and just sounds odd.
Hey, Biden campaign, if you are still looking for the black woman candidate for Vice President that would be Best.
Unfortunately the Florida-Georgia line dividing Don't let the door hit you on the way out and We get the message lies north of three (3) police chiefs.
Wow. A black woman is out as Seattle Police Chief. That's how woke Seattle is.
Unbelievable. She was in a horrible position, running the PD in a city run by a socialist city council, with a Mayor who is a moron. There is no will to ensure the public safety, to protect it's tax base. They seem to think that extorting more funds from the productive and threatening them if they disagree with their money and time of life being taken is AOK. That the city is now filled with boarded up businesses, and overpriced neighborhoods bordered by tent cities full of drug addicts and homeless does not seem to perceived as a tenuous situation by the geniuses running this city.
Seattle, just a few years ago, was on the brink of becoming a great city. It had some rough edges, but it was booming. They could have taken the high road and made it the pearl of the Northwest. Instead- it's a shithole. Once the overpaid techies start seeing the values on their overpriced homes going down, and the U-Hauls start moving out on one-way moves, the only ones left will be the socialists and a few tech moguls. I guess it's karma that they end up living with those they helped create.
The swirl in the commode is strong in Seattle.
The expression is:
"Good luck... with that."
(You need that tiny pause in the middle.)
You can only kick me so many times.
A guy would have gone less for feelings and more for what's wrong with the system the progs have set up.
I don't understand why all the cops haven't walked out
There's no reason that poor looters shouldn't have nice stuff too, except that nobody will step up to supply nice stuff to anybody if they can't themselves get nice stuff from it.
I think she means appreciate. Appreciate greatly maybe.
Lily White City Council Sacks Black Chief
There. FIFY. Ain’t really a “resignation” if you eject after they halve you’re salary and then decimate your department.
the Seattle City Council voted to cut spending for the Seattle Police Department on Monday
It would have been unanimous, but one member didn't think it went far enough.
A giant "F U" to the liberals.
My Creighton law school classmate is John McKay, a liberal Republican who was US Atty in Seattle. He well might run for Mayor. Great guy.
This is really an effort to reduce inequalities in Seattle policing.
The sworn officers were doing too much and the public too little.
An overlooked part of this fluster cluck is the combination of prosecutors and courts.
Even if they arrest a violent rioter, they get released with little or no consequences.
And it's not just rioting and really large cities. I know a cop high up in the drug enforcement chain of command. He tells me they don't bother with most drug arrests in a mid-sized city because the prosecutor will not take the case. Some of these are for distribution of fairly large amounts of nasty stuff. And that still holds true after a major uptick in heroin deaths in the city.
Smart lady. I can't wait to see who they get to replace her.
Can relish be used as a garnish?
I too, relish watching the city fall apart, and the upper-class liberal voters who created this mess are robbed and placed against a wall.
As was seen on a wall graffito style in Oakland 2 months ago:
"LIBERALS GET THE BULLET TOO (HAMMER & SICKLE)"
"I relish the work that will be done by all of you."
Metaphorically speaking:
Do you know what really bothers me? You know what really makes me sick to my stomach?
The Seattle City Council putting ketchup on a hot dog.
Good for her that she doesn’t live in Seattle. She can avoid the coming crime wave.
Please, it's not "looting," it's "undocumented shopping."
Almost makes me think that women should not be mayors or police chiefs.
Seattle and Portland are goners.
As I understand it, the council cut $4 million out of a $400 million budget, or 1%. I understand why the chief would want to resign, but it can't be for the budget "cut".
Run for mayor
I've been banned from commenting at the Seattle Times.
I commented on an article about all the Unemployment Insurance going to Nigeria. My comment concluded that the Governor was laundering the money through Nigeria to pay for his failed presidential campaign.
I thought long and hard about retiring early this year.
As I understand it, the council cut $4 million out of a $400 million budget, or 1%. I understand why the chief would want to resign, but it can't be for the budget "cut".
They also cut her pay, which would cut her retirement.
relish is shadenfreudelicious
Please, it's not "looting," it's "undocumented shopping."
If I was a young crook/anarchist I would move to California and become a professional shoplifter. Hit two stores a day, take about $500 worth of stuff a store and you're living large. If store security detains you, the police probably won't show up. If the police do show up, they won't arrest you. If they do arrest you, you will be immediately released with no bail.
To be honest, I'm surprised crime isn't worse in California.
>>Please, it's not "looting," it's "undocumented shopping."
Jim, it's reparations. Try to keep up.
To the Women and Men of the Seattle Police Department
She forgot to not capitalize "men".
The link-linked article says they're cutting $3M and also $76M of a $400M budget. I wonder which it is.
"Seattle Councilmember Lisa Herbold acknowledged she made an error in approving an amendment to slash Police Chief Carmen Best’s pay by six digits. Instead, it will drop from $294,000 to $275,000 in the coming year, by means of the last minute alteration."
No wonder Carmen quit; she'll probably get 80% of $294K = $235K in retirement.
Is Police Chief one of those positions qualified white cops don't want anymore? So they give it to the first woman or minority who walks in the door?
Kinda like being President of the Moose Lodge?
Hey, Biden campaign, if you are still looking for the black woman candidate for Vice President that would be Best.
Then the ticket would be Biden-Best, and the ticket would be it’s own campaign slogan. @Mr. Forward, what a stroke of genius!
Can one garner relish? Asking for a friend....
I keep reading comments from my Progressive friends that defund doesn't really mean defund. The left is full of shit. What the hell do they think is happening to Seattle??? This is not going to end well for Progressives who want to abolish the police and every other form of law and order and seem to want the riots and looting. I heard one person say, this is their reparations they are owed. Good. We don't owe anybody else a God damned thing. Grow up. I can't wait until Trump demolishes the Democrats and law and order is forced upon these lawless communities for good.
Look, folks, the situation in Seattle isn’t serious until Amazon pulls out. When they go, that will be the canary in the coal mine.
And let’s take a look at the City Council, shall we?
http://www.seattle.gov/council/meet-the-council
There's never been a better time to not be Chief of Police in Seattle.
Not only are the Police getting defunded, and their salaries cut....but the rioters are marching to their houses...whilst the mayor and the governor do nothing about the violence and hate...."Say Source: @SeattleCouncil, & actions over the last days, including a proposed massive pay cut, plus refusal to denounce marches to her house, reasons in decision." Analogous situation: Replacing Gamelin with Weygand.
It makes you wonder what sort of masochist would actually want to be a police chief of a Democrat run big city these days. Anyone in that position will have no support from the mayor's office and outright hatred from a large portion of the citizenry and the media.
Who is John Galt?
And let’s take a look at the City Council, shall we?
Out of nine people, four are Latinas and one is a socialist Indian immigrant. Good luck, Seattle.
It will be an interesting experiment, and we can all relish watching it. But keep in mind, it's probably what the voters in Seattle want. They're not going anywhere, housing prices will continue to go up, and the city will become a semi-lawless homeless-infested playground. Look at San Francisco, one of the most degraded, filthy cities in western civilization. Median home prices there hover around $1 million. The degradation attracts as many people as it repels.

Well, it's kinda easy to see why the 7% of seatle, that are blacks, would be protesting
What's that? ALL of the protesters are White? Please explain to me, yet again, Why They are protesting?
I've often joked that woke cities look for the most woke candidate for positions like police chief, usually to the detriment of qualifications. For a while there is seemed like every chief was either black or a lesbian, or the best, a black lesbian.
But this woman impressed me in the sense that she seemed to actually care about doing the job that she was hired to do. And she has integrity, it seems, by resigning and not just clocking in and taking the money, which is probably a decent sum.
So good for her. I hope she finds another job in a city that appreciates her...

Wince must be from Chi-caw'-go.
My great grandparents were among the first settlers who fought the woods and hills to create Seattle. It was once a wonderful place, and it will always feel like home, so it makes me so sad to watch it circle the drain like this.
I wonder how much this will affect the surrounding suburbs which is where the money is? Seattle is kind of the crazy town in the middle but how much does this affect Bellevue or Bainbridge Island?
I hope she runs for mayor.
"An overlooked part of this fluster cluck is the combination of prosecutors and courts."
Overlooked by many, but not buy George Soros. It appears that Soros studied the American political system very carefully, and realized that the popular election of prosecutors is a very weak link. By dumping millions into prosecutorial campaigns that are traditionally low-key and low-budget, he has managed to gut law enforcement in multiple large American cities, electing leftists who have no interest in protecting property or public order, but are eager to target law-abiding citizens who fall afoul of the mob.
"Hit two stores a day, take about $500 worth of stuff a store and you're living large. “
You might have to add on staff to fence your stuff on e-bay. These things always grow out of control.
I made pickle relish with the over ripe cukes from my garden. It’s pretty good and wasn’t hard to do, though it had to pickle overnight. I kind of wish I had peeled half the skins though. When they get yellow, the skin gets kind of tough.
Relish with content whatever providence has sent.
COVID is killing urban areas so this was a good time to decide to chase away the people who were sticking it out,
Well they let that Darkie girl know how it is going to be on their farm.

A decade ago I knew a lot of Gen Xer's and Millenials who were desperate to move to Seattle or Portland because of the cool factor. They were even willing to eschew the traditional concern of employment opportunities. At one point that trend switched to Portland. I guess Seattle was becoming overcrowded.
I got laid of at the end of last year and am still looking for a job. I'm seeing a heck of a lot of contract positions opening up in Portland. Both of those cities have destroyed themselves over the past three or four months.
"Sweet, never dill."
Dill, never sweet.
Best resignation ever.
(I swear I looked through the comments first to see if anyone had else had done it.)

Mister, which way to Starnesville?
The throughly unlikeable ringleader on the city council was losing the election by 10 points, and then we woke up in the morning, She was still on the council.
Did I mention she's a woman??
On the topic of Amazon leaving?
They are halfway out the door. They are shrinking their workforce as they build the East coast HQ in Virginia

They're all looking for new jobs / trying to sell their homes
Until then, they will pretend to work, while continuing to get paid. Sadly, I can't say I blame them
Carmen Best objected when the mayor and council decided to abandon the police precinct in what became the wonderful, peace-loving, rape-shooting-and-shakedown neighborhood known as CHOP during Seattle's own Summer of Love.
In the new police budget, Best's salary was cut, says the Seattle paper, which noted that at least 20 other PD employees make more money than she did this year.
She's retiring, no surprise. I wish her well.
Dave Begley above: "My Creighton law school classmate is John McKay, a liberal Republican who was US Atty in Seattle. He well might run for Mayor. Great guy."
From the web:"McKay was widely considered a likely candidate for elevation to the Federal bench when the seat held by Seattle U.S. District Judge John C. Coughenour opened up in 2006. He had been a top litigator, was popular with law enforcement, and a supporter of the Patriot Act. Nonetheless, he received no support from the Republicans on the judicial selection commission and soon found himself removed from his job as U.S. Attorney as well.
The Seattle Times noted in February 2007 that "One of the most persistent rumors in Seattle legal circles is that the Justice Department forced McKay, a Republican, to resign to appease Washington state Republicans angry over the 2004 governor’s race. Some believe McKay’s dismissal was retribution for his failure to convene a federal grand jury to investigate allegations of voter fraud in the race."
IMO: That there was fraud is indisputable. The present mayor was the Democrat candidate's consigliere that, again imo, oversaw the machinations of this fraud. The Democrat Governor elected thru this fraud, Gregoire, was a disaster. Her farm team, including her daughter and ex girl friend Durkan are even more second rate.
Fun fact: Gregoire bragged about being a LUG in college. Lesbian Until Graduation. She "moved on." Durkan didn't.
$294,000 [down to] to $275,000
To put that in perspective, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives makes $223,500 a year.
Wait, so in Seattle, the City Council pays a woman $0.77 for every dollar a man makes?

Still getting paid. The job prospects aren't pretty.
That may change.
Property in San Francisco is way, way down right now. I expect its the same deal in Seattle Portland and LA.
Houses there simply aren't moving. Condos are down by average $100K or so.
We still have the San Francisco house. I figure if we sold today we would get @200-250K less than at this time last year.
Its a good time to buy in SF, maybe, if you assume things will recover. Or maybe one should wait a bit to see how far it crashes. There aren't enough motivated sellers yet. They probaby will recover. SF is simply beautiful, physically, in both the natural and man made aspects. This all is not substitutable. But one may have to wait out an extended slump, like the 20 years or so of the mid-1960's to the early 80's. Theres a reason so many lovely Victorians became hippie pads.
Granted that slumps can be very extended, as with Detroit.
Less often mentioned is formerly gracious art deco downtown core of Los Angeles. Its been a pit for decades, in spite of the architecture.
The mayor hath shot her foot with the Chief's pistol. Seattle's as dumb as Portland.
pre-schadenfreuding
This. Also, is that cultural appropriation? Or can we just consider modern German the Saxon part of Anglo-Saxon?
I particularly like the thoroughly English prefix and suffix.
I remember when Best was serving as interim chief while Seattle kept up the search for the 'real one'. There was so much howling and gnashing of teeth because the city would not simply choose the woman of color that was already in the position - "racism!" "sexism!"
Were there insinuations she could do the job better due to her demographics? I'll have to review some old articles to refresh my memory.
Don't weep for Carmen Best. When Seattle attempted to hire a police chief - even though she was acting chief at the time - she failed to make the final cut. It was only after the screaming 'activists' found out, that she was appointed to the position instead of one of the three finalists.
Now those very same screaming 'activists' have turned against her? She resigns.
Seattle deserves every, single thing that's coming its way. Good and hard.
Look, folks, the situation in Seattle isn’t serious until Amazon pulls out. When they go, that will be the canary in the coal mine.
They've already started setting up shop in Bellevue.
The present mayor was the Democrat candidate's consigliere that, again imo, oversaw the machinations of this fraud.
Along with Paul Berendt.
Property in San Francisco is way, way down right now. I expect its the same deal in Seattle Portland and LA.

So far not in home prices in Seattle, at least according to the media. Been running across posts on r/seattle noting rental deals are more common - fewer huge rent increases. There will be stiffer competition for homes in outlying areas, as those that can WFH seek a lower cost of living.
A well deserved firing. The Seattle vote counters kept on "discovering" boxes of votes until they got teh result they wanted
No decent human being gave that a pass
I wonder how the fiasco in Seattle would affect the property values on Vashon Island? I had 10 acres there for a retirement home. I finally sold it about 10 years ago. I liked it a lot but decided I was not going to move there. My wife could not tolerate the climate. I suspect the values outside the city are holding up well.
The DA in Multnomah County isn't prosecuting the Portland rioters. Well, that's the 'fake news' version of what he's actually doing: but I'd fire him, anyway, had I the power to do so.
Best said and did nothing to resist the stupidity of the policies of the mayor and city council until very recently. Hardly the profile in courage being accorded by many here who weren’t paying attention.
wbfjrr2
Not for nothing, and I have no motivation to defend Best, but sometimes, you quit too early, you're just a quitter.
