I tried to cancel my digital subscription to the NY Times, yesterday. You cannot do it online. You have to either engage with a representative via chat or on a phone call. After waiting 40 minutes on chat, I decided to call. 35 minutes later, a person took my call, and I cancelled. The chat representative came after I was done with the phone call. Even though my subscription ends January 2021, they terminate your subscription immediately and claim to send a refund (we'll see when or if that arrives). Clearly, this is an unethical business practice borne of greed, hoping to wear down anyone who wants to cancel their subscription. You have no choice to have your subscription auto-renew so they are clearly rigging the process.

But I got my revenge. When I logged onto the NY Times today, I was blocked from reading articles. Because I use a VPN that cloaks my IP Address, I was prompted for a special $1/month International introductory subscription that jumps up to $8/month in one year. Far less than the $145/year I was paying before. The VPN confuses them regarding country of origin so voila!

I recommend exposing the public to the outrageous, unethical business practices of the NY Times and then asking why they charge foreigners less than American readers.

The Republican swampdwellers and hyperhypocrites of imperial DC hate and fear Trump almost as much as the Dims do. With almost no exceptions they see him upsetting all the routines of the Federal Blob, and not to their benefit.

He pays them no respect or attention, and that's a positive in my book. It'll be interesting to see who drags whom down (or up) in November.

In the current issue of The New Yorker there is an article about Joseph McCarthy. The writer, Louis Menand, observes that there is an uncanny resemblance between Joseph McCarthy and Donald Trump and he points out their amazing similarities. I myself was always struck by the resemblance that Donald Trump bears with Mother Theresa, but different people sometimes reach different conclusions.....McCarthy, like Trump, was a heavy drinker and inclined to self destructive behavior. The resemblances are obvious.... You wonder how someone with McCarthy's minimal gifts was able to gain such credence. My own theory was that people like Menand enabled him. There really were Soviet spies in the high reaches of the government, and people like the Menands of that era defended them. Harry Dexter White, Julius Rosenberg, Alger Hiss--they were all innocent and hounded, sometimes to death, by hysterical anti-Communists. People believed their lying eyes and thought that there were not just Communist spies but people who were willing to cover for them. The fact that so many prominent people denied that there was such a thing as covert Communists parodoxically caused many people to believe in the existence of covert Communist spy rings.

Practical Sanskrit: The misunderstood Swastika
blog.practicalsanskrit.com/2010/09/misunderstood-swastika.html

The word Swastika, स्वस्तिक, is made from Sanskrit words su + asti = well + being (सु + अस्ति = स्वस्ति) or all be well. the -ka suffix makes it a symbol, i.e. swastika is one that symbolizes well being, brings well being, good fortune.

mockturtle writes: I think he drew the swastikas wrong.

In reply, Roughcoat writes: Not if you're Finnish or an ancient Aryan warrior from the Vedic Age.

Well... that's a somewhat unfair and inaccurate claim. Swastikas of various forms were used by many ancient cultures, including the classical Greeks, a number of different Buddhist sects, and more than a few North American aboriginal nations. When the Finns gained their independence from Russia a search commenced for national symbols and devices, swastikas among them thanks to folk traditions dating from the prehistory of the Baltic peoples. However, the only officially adopted Finnish swastika was -- and remained until barely a week ago -- a form more or less identical to the NSDAP symbol. The differences were color. In Finland, the symbol was usually blue or yellow and occasionally black, depending on the application. The NSDAP form was black on a white disk enclosed by red. (The Luftwaffe used a black swastika outlined in white as a tail device; Nazi-era German civil aircraft always used a black swastika on the red and white background.) Another difference was alignment. The Nazi form was always canted 45 degrees to the left, in accordance with Hitler's original 1923 design. The Finnish form was always directly horizontal/vertical, like this.

Ok, a thought hit me tonight... why are so many American Black people, especially militants, Muslim?

First of all, Islam has a centuries long history of enslaving Black Africans, a practice continued to this day.

Secondly, all Muslims are by definition slaves, bound to the will of Allah. You would think that the last thing an American Black person would want to be is a slave.

(Note this has nothing to do with the Nation of Islam. That is a wacky racist cult that preaches Black superiority and has nothing to do with actual Islam. About the only thing I approve of in Islam is its lack of racism.)

Venona intercepts. Release was forced by Pat Moynihan.

Most of those positively identified were never brought to justice.
Partly because the signal intelligence system was so secret that this information could not be used in a prosecution. And when the Soviet archives were (briefly and partially) available many were confirmed with second sources.

Which was a great shame, as such spotty and controversial proceedings as were brought forward were used as anti-American propaganda and over all this gave cover to two generations of traitorous intellectuals to persist in slandering the US and poisoning its culture, the effects of which continue to this day.

When Venona was revealed in the 1990s Patrick Moynihan, in various articles and an important book "Secrecy", argued that the devastating cultural costs of this secrecy were not worth the operational benefits. A clear cut exposure and purge of the traitors then could have avoided much ongoing trouble, by cutting off the "trahison des clercs" at the knees.

Of course it's 'acceptable'. It's a free country.
For now.

The question is whether or not guys getting paid millions of dollars a year to play a kid's game should be on their knees protesting, or on their knees thanking God they live in such a great country.

Personally, I always saw sports as separate from politics. I didn't really care who my team's QB voted for (and I still don't).

But now EVERYTHING is political. And that's a damn shame.

Look, Crack, you and I would never be friends. But we could both root for the same team and high five each other after a touchdown as random fans do.

Now, we are supposed to disown fellow fans if they are not sufficiently woke, and don't kneel, and don't say "All lives matter".

Wokeness has pretty much destroyed the finest university system in the world. Not content, they are coming after every other institution, too.
