"... his life matters, he should still be alive today. Right now, we must respond with our empathy and compassion. We must remember that anger and grief about injustice never need justification. We need systemic change to address the racism in our state and our country. As folks continue to protest and demand accountability and change, please do so peacefully—be kind to each other, help each other, and keep each other safe. And the stories of our neighbors who are hurting and demanding a more just and equitable country must be told to and seen by the people of our state and this country. Please allow the press to continue to tell them without interference or fear of violence or arrest."
A series of tweets by our Governor, Tony Evers.
He says "our Black neighbors," so he is assuming that the reader is not black. Black people are the other. Speaking only to white people, apparently, Evers portrays black people as emotional: "the pain felt... this grief and anger.... anger and grief... our neighbors who are hurting." He tells us, "we must respond with our empathy and compassion." In this conception, we the white people have empathy and compassion, not raw and dangerous emotion like anger, and we are the ones who are spoken to with the implied belief that we are capable of controlling ourselves and behaving in a forbearing, beneficent manner as we look upon The Other, our black neighbors. It's unsettling, this otherizing, and I don't think Governor Evers noticed he was doing this. Ironically, he wants the "us" group he's addressing to be vigilant about "systemic" racism.

Judging by the mob Floyd was a violent racist asshole.
At first, I focused on how these riots will help Trump win Minnesota in 2020 after he almost won the state in 2016.
* For Clinton = 46.4%
* For Trump = 44.9%
Now I recognize that I was thinking too small.
These riots will help Trump win 40 states in 2020.
Welcome to Utopia 2020.
Dear white people.
Signed,
Someone who thinks they’re not racist
Most virtue signaling about race I see on social media does feel racist, and it's because of this "otherizing" Althouse notices here.
I think Van Jones would agree with Althouse.
"I think Van Jones would agree with Althouse."
That's something I just said out loud: What would Van Jones say?
"Work" of a "few." How about "crimes" of a "significant mob". When words completely lose their meaning, we are all lost.
It's all fake from the start, beginning with what happened.
There's a huge audience that wants the narrative, which is about entertaining, not otherizing.
Nothing that's real should produce a mob of any kind.
The other, incidentally, is a positive in moral theory. Working to preserve his rights is how you become unique and non-interchangeable. Assuming you don't do it by passing a tax bill.
Tiny Evers echos Harriet Johnson:
Harriet Johnson: THE WHITE, GODFEARING CITIZENS OF ROCK RIDGE wish to express our extreme displeasure with your choice of sheriff. Please remove him immediately! The fact that you have sent him here just goes to prove that you are the leading asshole in the state!
"He [DEMOCRAT Evers] tells us, 'we must respond with our empathy and compassion.'"

That's the typical condescension of liberals towards blacks. Blacks can't control themselves, can't make smart decisions, so it's up to the liberals to do it for them.
Gov. Evers—typical white person.
This is not protesting. It’s a left-wing caring competition.
You were upset? I attended a protest.
You attended a protest? I brought a sign.
You brought a sign? I yelled at the cops.
You yelled at the cops? I threw a brick.
You threw a brick? I threw a Molotov Cocktail into a police car with four cops inside.
Blacks are the quickest to fall for it and make themselves into a dependent class. The gov is asking whites to support this delusion.
This post is precisely why I read this blog.
- Krumhorn
It's not unique to blacks, this falling for a delusion. Women are even quicker to fall for it. Militant feminism came before militant civil rights.
How much deference does HR require to feelings of women, vs feelings of blacks.
Looting in the middle of the night at both East Town and West Town malls. Reports of dozens of cars going from downtown to do so.
Yes, I know they add an e to Town but I refuse to.
These were folks looking to loot. A couple were identified as white kids from Sun Prairie and Waunakee, which explains the focus on malls.
We're the adults.
Evers is a buffoon, like most liberal white elected officials. The protests and riots are planned, organized and ready to go. They just need a trigger, and they got it with Floyd. Yes, I don't like what happened to Floyd and hope Chauvin has to answer for his actions in a fair trial. But I despise these rioters and the liberal buffoons who enable them to burn down cities.
"Black people are the other"
They must be the other. If they're part of the of the community, then all of leftism is reduced to collectivist economics, and that can't be up front.
In 2014 Blacks rioting about the killing of shoplifter Michael Brown destroyed Ferguson, Missouri. Then in 2015, Black students complaining about imaginary racism destroyed the University of Missouri.
By means of those two events in 2014-2015, Missouri's Blacks turned the state from a purple state into a red state, because two-thirds of Missouri's Whites now vote Republican.
I described this political shift in my blog article titled Support for Democrats has collapsed in Missouri.
My article's highlights:
Missouri citizens voted in recent Presidential elections as follows:
2000
Republican = 50.4%

They tried to hold a riot it Baltimore, but they couldn't find anything left to destroy.
P.S. white people, grab your brooms and go to clean everything up so they can destroy it again tonight
The key point is that nationally coordinated cells of BLM and Antifa have taken over the protests (riots) and are now attempting a socialist coup in dozens of American cities. This something new. We have had race riots and protests over police brutality often in the past, sometimes on a huge scale (the 60's). But this is the first time we have experienced European-style leftist, revolutionary street violence. It will be interesting to see if we get a permanent violent Baader-Meinhof-Gruppe roaming our cities.
I've told my kids for years that in the end, racism is claimed to be the root cause for most societal problems and they'd better get used to hearing it and dealing with it.
In this conception, we the white people have empathy and compassion, not raw and dangerous emotion like anger, and we are the ones who are spoken to with the implied belief that we are capable of controlling ourselves and behaving in a forbearing, beneficent manner
Historically and culturally, this has been the norm. Instead of 'immediate' rioting erupting in a flash....."white" people tend to be more of a slow burn that builds up to a longer lasting and more widespread fire.
Anger is NOT raw and dangerous emotion, when it is a well banked and controlled fire. Anger is actually a good emotion when it is channeled in a smart and strategic way. Rioting and destroying property and people that have nothing to do with your anger...is not strategic OR smart.
Forbearance is not necessarily beneficent.
Also----> Forewarned is Forearmed
In which Evers affirms his liberal sense of patronizing superiority as regards Blacks.
Most people are not racist. Most people, when put one on one with another human being, deal with that human being with kindness, genuine curiosity, calm, interest, empathy, or, at the very least, politeness. That goes for black, white, brown, red people. Muslims, Christians, Jews, Agnostics, Hindus, Buddhists, Rastafarians, Taoists, et.al. Day in and day out, we know what we should do, how we should treat each other, all of us.
Except for the extreme Left and the extreme Right. And those two groups are driving this country apart.
Not to say there is nothing more to this. Years of looking at the squalor that is our inner cities, the black children having to grow up in areas that are less safe than Baghdad, going to schools with no hope of a real education, just hoping to live to the ripe age of 18. That's where we need to be addressing things. But...Dems got what Dems got. They own the cities. They hold onto the black vote by telling black America that all Republicans are racist and want to kill them. Then comes individual assholes- again, the extreme on either side, and a man is killed, needlessly, in front of the world. And everything I said up above about us knowing how to treat each other, is tossed out with the garbage.
We're in for a long haul here. The Left is adamant about ripping apart our country. They have help from outside of our country, as well as inside. This cannot end well.
I’m going with Michael Jackson on this one.
“I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change”
I remember all the riots in Minneapolis when that Somali cop killed the white yoga teacher. Seared in my memory.
One thing is for sure, the so-called "anti-fascist" Antifa fascists are loving the rioting and destruction party. Little white boy leftwing fascist will exploit the situation for their own ya-yas.
There is graffiti here in my town. the Circle with the A. These creeps don't care about George Floyd - they are spoiling for their break-things fight.
And the Negro's name
Is used, it is plain
For the politician's gain
As he rises to fame
And the poor white remains
On the caboose of the train
But it ain't him to blame
He's only a pawn in their game
"We need systemic change to address the racism in our state and our country."
Despicable bullshit.
This is what Van Jones said Friday:
"Even the most liberal, well-intentioned white person has a virus in his or her brain that can be activated at an instant ... White people are always innocent — and their innocence constitutes their crime"
Someone should make a collection of all the tweets and "news" outlets of leftwing democrat pols and celebrities encouraging looting, rioting and destruction of property.
I think the 2d Amendment is the real winner here. Nobody trusts the police to protect them anymore. Blue state mayor and governors will either suck it up or be voted out.
George Floyd? Who's that? They're here to party.
Thus far it seems concentrated in those dem metros that pay lip service to that other part of their population. This is fine. It will be interested to see if they actually come 'to the suburbs'. I doubt it. There will be homicides and various 'mass casualty' incidents. 'They' now that. We'll see.
Spot on, Ann.
...and Beverly Hills is not the suburbs. It's a gay anti-gun yuppy village filled with fags and wealthy white Karen divorcees. It doesn't count.
It's not flavor country. They won't come to flavor country.
Calling a group of people “neighbors” seems more like you are including them in your community, to my ears. Neighbors are people you want to help and protect.
You are looking for bad news here. Hey look, there it is!
Evers, along with most elite democrats see black people as physically strong petulant children. They try to control the emotions of minorities to make sure they don’t create trouble, while using emotion to get votes. ( they gonna putchall back in chains!) They are truly surprised and fascinated when they find a black like Obama who is articulate and wears a suit. I don’t see this manipulative behavior as different than the 1860’s Democrats who manipulated them into providing labor.
I've been thinking all the hate and "you are spreading COVID" to Michigan protestors and Florida beachgoers, while *not even bringing it up* during these Floyd riots is also racism.
To the criticizers/media/politicians, white people can be expected to to the responsible thing and are criticized when they don't. But black people can't be expected to follow those rules- they operate on feeling.
Where's Gretchen Whitmer telling the protesters that they are going to make her extend the lockdown? She's not saying it. She doesn't expect them to be able to control themselves.
"We must remember that anger and grief about injustice never need justification" presupposes that the identifications of injustice are agreed to by all.
Excellent analysis as far as it goes, Althouse, but it isn’t “a few.”
Tony clearly does not watch enough CNN to speak woke. We must go burn his house down.
I've felt a lot of grief and anger in my life. I've even experienced societal injustice and inequality - how come corporations get a bailout but I don't? But it never occurred to me that I could use this as a reason to shoplift, much less loot an entire store. When I was a kid, I liked to burn trash in my backyard. Maybe it would have been cathartic, as an adult, to burn down some small businesses and low-income housing. Because I'm so sad and angry. People just need to understand me more, and listen to my voice.
It has always been so. Always been a charade. OFor my part, my neighbors don't get smashed then try to pass fake twenties. Just sayin.
Milquetoast Educrat in action.
So it's ok to say "Black" as opposed to "African American" now?
The real reason for the riot? Mensa conventions cancelled as a result of coronavirus fears.
These are the people that rioted in the streets yesterday in Madison. I see one black person in that entire crowd.
It sure doesn't look like black people dragging this police officer through the streets in Chicago. But, this violence will be misattributed to Black Lives Matter and by extension to black people.
This is paint-by-the-numbers left wing violence. And its participants will happily let black people take the blame for their bloodlust. It's like white privilege and toxic masculinity had a baby who was then bit by a radioactive marxist spider. Why are the shittiest people in the world so certain that they are the good guys?
Van Jones' insight to this problem is that all white people, even the best intentioned, carry "a virus" of racism.
All thanks to president chaos who provided the spark and the oxygen to light this fire. The ChiComs and the KGB Masters of Trump world are celebrating his great works on behalf of you deplorables.
In Dallas, there were bricks laid out in areas where they knew the Rioters would be going. The left is going to use Racism to divide us forever more. Isn't it funny how you aren't hearing how we are going to die from Corona virus now from the Progressive Media....on to the next crisis.
You people are sick fucks who cheer social cancer spawned by your racism and hatred.
I can't wait until you people bring your guns to the fight. Maybe next year right fellas?
you got to be stoked the way that Donald has playing n-dimensional chess in order to win over more of the black vote.

"So it's ok to say "Black" as opposed to "African American" now?"
The Cooper thing has made that one confusing for the moment.
Funny that my mental lineage was connecting Governor Tony to Medgar.
This is what Van Jones said Friday:
"...their innocence constitutes their crime"
That stupid phrase goes back to 1963.
I knew the wave of “protests” had changed when I say protest/riots in Bakersfield California,a predominantly Hispanic community.
And my best video moment was watching a liquor store in Minneapolis get looted, watch a white guy lug a case of Bud lite a block or so to his LOCKED car, toss in the case and drive off.
George Floyd’s death, memorialized over a case of Bud Lights.
America, what a great country!
PS riots across the country, unpopular President, space launch...I went to bed in 2020 and woke up in1968.
"anger and grief about injustice never need justification"
Time for a party at Tony Evers' house.

To me, it seems that the rioter breaking the window is a Colored man.

It sure doesn't look like black people dragging this police officer through the streets in Chicago.
I watched it. I could not figure out what the assailants' skin colors.
I could not figure out even who was assaulting the officer and who was trying to defend him.
Racializing it misses the point. It’s about cops and the pettifogging justice system and how they treat people they confront. These people are mostly the poor and hence disproportionately black. It’s not cops hating on blacks, it’s cops and courts treating a large fraction of everyone they meet roughly, contemptuously, and dismissively.
. . . his life matters, he should still be alive today.
Floyd seems to have been on a suicide run for years.
I feel pity for the man. Everyone should, notwithstanding his criminal history. We are all made in the image of God.
The root of this problem -- both cause and perpetuation -- has less to do with racism among the people and more to do with the arrogance and hubris of so-called 'public servants', from the mayors on down, in predominantly blue-state cities.
So Gov Evers really believes we still have systemic racism even though America elected a black president twice?

interesting formulation. please tell where can I find more about this?
It’s as much about anarchists, the black bloc and antifa as it is black grievance. And there’s a rent a mob feel to some, but certainly not all, of the black folks in Seattle.
Unfortunately for the progressive leadership in many of these cities, this is their constituency. This is the base they feed and exploit with promises of free stuff, utopia, and ‘understanding their pain’. These are often the mobs they mobilize for political/social power and influence.
Now would be a good time for voters to send these particular politicians outside the city walls and put the people committing crimes in prison.
Your ideas have consequences, and here they are. Enjoy!
I think most Americans want to be left alone and to do well for themselves and their families.
Some—my wife calls them the interfering classes—want to intervene and direct the affairs of individuals and families. We have all heard the excuses for this interference—“We must protect people from harming themselves and their families—particularly the women and children”. This leads inevitably to what we are seeing now— the rejection of individual responsibility and the destruction of order in the name of a higher good.
Examples drawn from fiction are never more than illustrative, but consider Huck Finn. Was there ever a worse-parented person than the fictional Huck? Yet, he has a moral center that leads him to good decisions for himself and others, rejecting the constraints of authority. That is part of our national ideal.
Time to light out for the Territory.

Depends on the crime. For murder, about 1 in 6 white victims were killed by a black person. About 1/8 of Americans are black, and about 1 in twelve Black murder victims was killed by a white person.

The low bigotry of soft expectations...
The only people facing systemic racism today are Whites and Asians. Our political, academic and governmental systems all explicitly discriminate against Whites and Asians.
Even on a bad day, the cruel neutrality lifts my spirits.

everyone should click on that.
the tweet that goes along with:
Female officer dragged by white leftwing fascist punks.
"Looks like ANTIFA to me. First the cops. Then they'll come after you. It's not racial. It's a subterfuge. It's political. They're using you. CHAOS: Police officers dragged through the street in Chicago ..."
The line, "We must remember George Floyd." reminds me of what I was feeling last night. I was watching the television news. (Which is something I rarely do.) They kept showing all this footage of the looting and burning and kept talking about George Floyd over and over again. And the FIXED chyron at the bottom of the screen on ABC said "GEORGE FLOYD PROTESTS" all night long. I read that some of the news organizations told their staff not to refer to the violence as "riots." (Probably because they didn't want to look like they were presenting the African American community in a bad light.) But the following thought occurred to me: How many people are going to make the subconscious connection that "GEORGE FLOYD PROTESTS" = rioting and violence.
Not to be a full on conspiracy theorist, but ....
1. 5/17 - Mueller Special Counsel Hoax
2. 12/19 - Ukraine Impeachment Hoax
3. 3/20 - Wuhan flu pandemic & lockdown
4. 5/20 - Protests/riot/looting/arson in mostly Dem cities.
All in the context of a remarkable economic run where unemployment was low, the GDP good, and the stock market high.
Seems as though a lotta powerful forces have set into motion certain events, with the help, of course, of their sheep and mobs and media stenographers.
Did y'all know there's an election coming up in 5 months?
Hmmm.
FYI that circle with the A is an Anarchist symbol. Also known as Black Bloc because their usual attire is all black with a mask.

Yes, the attitudes of so-called 'public servants', which has been encoded from the top down into a form of attitudinal superiority that 'their lives matter' more than those they are sworn to protect.
I looked up Jim's reference to the wrongful shooting of an unarmed Australian woman by a Somali office in Minneapolis. Here's was the crux of Noor's defense:
Noor’s defense team argued that based on the officers’ testimony, they feared a possible ambush. They said that Noor’s police training informed his actions to protect himself and his partner.
For police officers, "if you're reacting, it may already be too late," Noor's attorney, Thomas Plunkett, said in his closing arguments on Monday, according to tweets from a reporter present at the hearing.
BTW, has anyone seen mockturtle around these parts lately?
I know she wasn’t rioting, but I’m pretty sure Howard was out there with his antifa buddies.
- Krumhorn
Lewis: I think you need to account for blacks being a much lower % of the total population.
The rate is only two to one if blacks and whites were an equal % of the total population. Since they are aproximately only 1/4 of white total, I think you need to multiply your 2 x 4 which gives you an 8 to 1 unfavorable rate of cross racial murder.

Howard, you still don't get it. That's your team out there celebrating with stolen booze and flat screen TVs. We don't go down there when the left is running wild. We are home and waiting for the rioters to try to move out of the blue run city.
Walz is desperate to find a "white supremacist" while his daughter is tweeting instructions to the Antifa rioters.
This is your night to shine, Howard. Go beat up a cop.
Is he assuming I feel less pain seeing a cop's knee on a guy's neck because of my skin color?
Man, your governor is condescending.
The ChiComs and the KGB Masters of Trump world are celebrating his great works on behalf of you deplorables.
Inga, are you using Howard's account?
I may be alone on this, but as I was watching Los Angeles being burned, looted, and defaced by rioters of color, I was thinking I really don’t give a shit about George Floyd. His life doesn’t matter to me at all. He had recently served a 5 yr prison term for a home invasion robbery and was just another miscreant like that Georgia fellow and the Ferguson thug and many other turds whom the Great Toilet of Life needed to flush.
That said, I hope the MN policeman with his neck knee flush handle fries in hell, not so much because his killed the guy, but because he wasn’t subtle about it.

For my part, my neighbors don't get smashed then try to pass fake twenties.
@BUMBLE BEE, mine either, but neither getting publicly drunk nor passing counterfeit bills is a capital offense. Nor is resisting arrest.
And this is why both the initial protests-turned-riots and the current Antifa riots are postponing us from a much overdue discussion of what is and what is not acceptable use of force by police on citizens. There has been successful pushback here and there, but waiting until someone dies is not how we should be evaluating police policies on use of force to subdue people resisting arrest.
Let me mention another common police policy — in at least some jurisdictions cops routinely shoot agitated, barking dogs when pursuing criminals, even if the dog is behind a fence and represents no physical threat. Someday someone attached to his dog is going to respond without thinking and a cop, and probably that homeowner, too, will be dead. Far fetched? Would you believe it has already happened? The score at the end of the first day of the siege at Ruby Ridge was, in order, one dead dog, one dead U. S. Marshall, and one dead teenaged boy. Obviously not enough bodies to cause police to rethink their policy.
But the discussion of which techniques are allowable for subduing large, resisting, criminals will not happen in Minneapolis because people with a legitimate complaint about police actions degenerated into looting and then Antifa showed up.
What a weak, mewling failure of a governor.
He didn't even mention social distancing or flattening the curve.
He obviously doesn't care about what's really important.
Maybe he can sic the police on some Sunday church goers.
Here in Michigan, Governor Whitless is wishing she had the kind of protesters that were here 2 weeks ago: armed, non-shooting, non-rioting, non-looting, non-vandalizing, and non-burning. All of the liberal state assembly critters had lots of things to say about them.
They're all strangely quiet right now.
Weird, hah?
I was too young to appreciate the riots and violence in the late 60s. At least there was some legitimacy to opposing the War in Vietnam.
But today, the Left doesn't have a Vietnam. They just hate America, generally. They don't like it when folks work hard, achieve middle class status, buy a home, and can simply go play a round of golf, and tell these asshats to go fuck off.
The Left and their cowardly enablers are the enemies of a free society. Don't forget that.
Floyd would be dead today with the heart attack he had.

@Louis Wetzel, actually, yes it is.

There is no evidence of diversity. There is evidence that the men knew each other. There is circumstantial evidence of excessive use of force. So, no witch hunts, no warlock judgments, let due process be our guide.
On Facebook I got into a debate with a very liberal white female law professor at Creighton. Her husband is the new dean. She ran for Congress from WVA and got 35% of the vote.
In her post she essentially approved of the rioting in Omaha on Friday night. I called her out that it is unseemly for a law professor to condone law breaking. She then insulted me and said I had poor reading comprehension for a lawyer.
She told me to read “White Fragility.” I told her to read Tom Wolfe’s “Back to Blood.” She then cited stats about how this “White Fragility” sold many copies compared to Wolfe’s novel.
She then blocked me. She’s no Ann Althouse. She’s a third rate intellect. The faculty at my alma mater has really declined.
Fuck George Floyd. Guy was a multiple felon and porn "star". I don't want to remember that.
He was a degenerate. We already have plenty, of all colors and stripes. One less doesn't hurt.
Trump- “MAGA loves the black people. They love African-American people”
“I've been thinking all the hate and "you are spreading COVID" to Michigan protestors and Florida beachgoers, while *not even bringing it up* during these Floyd riots is also racism.”

It’s all politics, of course.

In fact, if you post something on nextdoor linking to something non-leftwing, the locals come out and turn into little speech police fascists.

Did you know that Howard is actually trying to make the case that all of his Soros funded antifa led riot pals only got violent when cops used tear gas?

“Political tags — such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth — are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. The former are idealists acting from highest motives for the greatest good of the greatest number. The latter are surly curmudgeons, suspicious and lacking in altruism. But they are more comfortable neighbors than the other sort.”
― Robert A. Heinlein
The Minnesota governor's daughter is actively helping the rioters.
This political op will not only fail, but also backfire.
On the Pawlak/I'm Full of Soup vs Wetzel- here are the relevant numbers from Wetzels link:
Blacks killed by white perpetrators= 243
Whites killed by black perpetrators= 533
This is the gross 2 to 1 ratio Wetzel described, but there are 8 times as many white people as there are black people in the country. I will let you decide how to adjust the numbers, though I do have my own opinion on the matter. I will also note something else I noticed about those tables- look at the one at the bottom, and tell me what you see.

I think that it is fairly obvious that these riots have been planned for some time. It’s now summer, which is riot season around the world, and the country is reopening itself up. These various progressive anti-Trump attacks have to be sequenced. We are now in the COVID-19 response that it won’t really interfere with the rioting any more.
I expect that these riots have been queued up and ready to fire for quite some time now. We saw them practicing last year, in places like Portland, and expected to see it amped up this summer. If there hadn’t been a questionable White on Black police killing, something else would have been used as an excuse. Or, if one wasn’t found, they’d fire it off anyway. They didn’t need an excuse really. We saw that last summer. All they need is their rage at Trump and their Soros funding.
One thing that is going to be interesting is whether or not AG Barr can get the FBI in gear. I don’t expect Dir Wray to be ousted until after the election. There is a running joke that if you ever find a meeting with three Klansmen, two will be FBI informants. Did Wray even attempt to penetrate these AntiFA, Black Bloc, BLM groups? They could have been scooping up all of their communications over the last year or two. Were they?
AG Barr pointed out that rioters crossing state lines to riot, or those planning riots across state lines, etc, can be arrested and tried under 18 USC §2101. He was rather prompt with that. Was the DOJ already planning for this? How about the FBI? Should have been spending significant resources all winter on this threat. Did they? The FBI seems to have spent the year stalling courts and the Senate about their significant part in the attempted coup against Trump. We shall see.
"Howard, you still don't get it. That's your team out there celebrating with stolen booze and flat screen TVs."
Oh, Howard does get it, Mike. The pattern with Howard is pretty obvious- the more embarrassed he is, the nastier his trolling becomes. It is only when he really doesn't have a dog in the fight do his comments regain their biting humor.

To me, it seems that the rioter breaking the window is a Colored man.
I apologize.
I inadvertently wrote the wrong expression Colored man.
I meant to write Man of Color.
Please make the mental correction.

interesting formulation. please tell where can I find more about this?
Emmanuel Levinas _Outside the Subject_ ch. 10 "The Rights of Man and the Rights of the Other" pp 116-125, is a tight argument.
The general argument, aimed more at development and persuasion, is _Totality and Infinity_, that ethics precedes onotology.
Yeah, let's remember George Floyd;
"Standing at 6 feet 6, he was a star tight end for Jack Yates High School, where he earned the nickname “Gentle Giant” from classmates." I'll bet they miss him now!
And don't let's forget this;
"In 2007, Floyd was charged with armed robbery in a home invasion in Houston, in which another man posed as a water department worker in an attempt to gain access to a woman’s residence, according to court documents. When the woman realized he wasn’t actually a water department worker, she tried to close the door. That’s when five other men got out of a car that had just pulled up and forced their way inside. According to charging documents, the largest man in the group, whom the victim identified as Floyd, “forced his way inside the residence, placed a pistol against the complainant’s abdomen, and forced her into the living room area of the residence.”"
Well, heck. After all that, it appears they didn't even rape her. At least, they didn't charge him with rape. Good old George did five years in the pen for home invasion robbery. He's a prime example of why sensible people spend a great deal of money to avoid having any "Black neighbors".
It's time to stop fooling around with these communist/anarchist terrorists. Antifa is and should be declared a terrorist organization and those who support it ought to be treated as terrorist enablers. Rioters and looters ought to be shot while rioting and looting. The sooner the better as the sooner the rioters and looters are shot, the quicker the the violence ends.
But for the cell phone video, Floyd's death could have been attributed to the unequal and racially discriminatory effects of COVID-19. All black deaths matter!
The faculty at my alma mater has really declined.
Stop writing checks!!
There are a number of YouTube channels that feature videos of cops screwing up - the channels offer analysis of how the officer could have handled the sitution better. These channels are run by cops, martial arts and other hand to hand combat instructors, or expert shooters.
There are a lot of incidents of cops escalating situations over *shoplifting*. Tons of them - drawing guns and shooting, getting into physical altercations, and sometimes even losing their service weapon to the suspect - over shoplifing. In one I watched recently, an all-white cast got into a really asisine situation where a white female cop went to a home of a suspected shoplifter (white) that seemed to have some mental/emotional issues. Guy resists arrest. They wrestle. He gets a hold of her gun. Somehow - his mother gets shot and a second shot goes out the front door (no follow up on that). Finally, the female cop's male partner enters the house and knocks the guy out. Now there was no follow up on any injury there (the video was mainly to teach how to NOT lose your gun) but he got hit pretty hard. In his own home. Over *SHOPLIFTING*.
I've wondered for long time: have we solved all of the really serious crimes and now cops have little to do but chase shoplifters?
Sheesh. Howie is about ready to bash his skateboard into a shop window.
"It's unsettling, this otherizing"
What do you mean, unsettling? Progs have been at this racial kabuki theater for more than half a century. It's all about playing on white liberal guilt. Which depends on a carefully constructed image of blacks as other.
"Ironically, he wants the "us" group he's addressing to be vigilant about "systemic" racism."
What do you mean, ironically? Of course he is targeting whites, of course whites are to blame for systemic racism, of course actual blacks are not in the picture.
Ironically, it sometimes takes nice smart liberal women a couple of decades to figure out The Narrative and how progs push it. Next, they'll realize that, Karen or not, it's all their fault--blacks have more to fear from them than from the KKK or other blacks--and many of them will even believe it. A big part of prog racial politics is about getting white women to submit.
Why can't we all just get along?
“Trump- “MAGA loves the black people. They love African-American people””
There’s some pretty good othering right there from the POTUS.
Comfortable Liberals just love this shit. Even when its NOT black people ANGRY over RACISM. Its a chance to preen and stand with their BLACK BROTHERS and SISTERS against those low-class white people who are SECRET RACISTS.
That's why all the rich Hollyweirdos are providing bail. Its why zuckerberg is talking about trump's "hate-filled, decisive rhetoric" and the MSM are labeling Riots, "Protests" and assuming its all spontaneous expressions of anger by black folks. Antifa? doesn't exist. Communists and left-wing radicals? They don't exist either.
Its all a liberal/left moral play. Facts don't matter. So, enjoy the show, and hope a "Protest" occurs in your area and you pick up some free TV.
We need systemic change to address the racism in our state and our country.
So original. So ............inSPIRing......so TOTALLY MEANINGLESS.
That's Tony!!
Its hilarious that all these Nooses and Nazi swaskitka's ALWAYS show up in in some liberal/left campus or big city and its hilarious that all these "Protests" with looting, violence, (and the occasional killing) always occur in liberal/left cities that haven't elected a Republican in 50 years.
Maybe one day, liberals like Evers and Frey will clap hard enough for Comrade Stalin and be purified of racism, but I doubt it. They like FIGHTING RACISM too much. if it didn't exist, they'd invent it.
Evers sounds like the corrupt thug DiBlasio, who just ordered the police force to use a "gentle" touch with looters and arsons.
This is the same DiBlasio who not more than three weeks ago threatened to use the police to round up jews.
I wonder where he and Evers were in January when jews were being stabbed in the street by BLM.
So Gov Evers really believes we still have systemic racism even though America elected a black president twice?
He'll write another junior-high level essay about that this week.
So that cop's name was "systemic"? No wonder he's such a dick.
We're behind the curve guys; here's the latest spin!
Police Erupt in Violence Nationwide
We all will live in Baltimore soon.
Antifa and other Leftist groups are definitely involved and they are increasing the level of violence, but the idea that this is all planned and manufactured is idiotic.
Whether it is justified or not, the anger and rage in much of the African American community is real and the riots are largely organic.
The authorities can let it play out and hope it will subside eventually or they can meet violence with violence and, maybe, end it sooner.
Tough spot to be in. A man like Evers, weak in his appearance and proclamations, is not the best man for the job.
Gook luck, Wisconsin.
Say, Matt, after you eliminate the degenerates who's next in line - the Jews or the Gypsies?
He's a Democrat and Democrats require both oppressors and oppressed. He obviously sees blacks as the oppressed and whites as the oppressors.
Maybe if he would look at people as individuals, he could figure out the right thing to do.
Let’s remember Floyd’s armed home invasion, his illegal drug use, and his counterfeiting. Let’s remember that he resisted arrest while knowing that he had serious medical problems. Lest we forget.
I would like a refund - this story is just too unrealistic.
George Floyd served time in prison for 5 years
George Floyd did Porn
George Floyd worked at a nightclub as security with the office accused of killing him
George Floyd got laid off due to Coronavirus
George Floyd was arrested for passing a counterfeit $20
The Minneapolis police have been basically untouchable politically, and supported the current mayor.
The Minneapolis police chief is Black.
The Governors daughter tweeted out information used by rioters.
A police station was allowed to burn.
The Governor blamed White Supremacists for the destruction
A msnbc reporter with a burning building in the background said the protest was peaceful
And Fox News and other news programs refrained from using the word “Riot”
Well, in memory of Floyd the community in Chicago has made sure that there is no intact store front on Michigan Ave from North of the Water tower to Roosevelt Road (1200south). For those not familiar with the Magnificent Mile this is a distance of three miles. Verified via CPD relative.
Oh forgot, some of the "protestors" have more refined tastes than other: Whole Foods looted rather the ordinary pillaging of the 7Elevens. Chicago 2020.
We all will live in Baltimore soon.
Know what's stupid about this whole thing?
One, dumb cop does a really stupid thing in Minneapolis and the rest of us are supposed to flog ourselves with guilt and have a great awakening to things we have nothing to do with.
No.
If you want to feel like shit over something you have no control over? Fine. But don't tell me to do the same.
Evers sees a distinction between People of Color and People of Palor.
The more important distinction is between the elite and non-elite.
Evers sounds like the typical Democrat, glorying in his white privilege while othering minorities. The Dem Party really does view blacks and browns as just votes to be harvested every couple of years, but who otherwise must stay in their place for then good of the Party.
I see these awful instances of police brutality in Democratic dominated cities, with Dems in control for years. NYC, Chi, Minn, Ferguson (suburb of StL). Rural and small-towns, not so much.
Worth thinking about, if anyone in the media or politics (either party) is capable of thought. (Which, they aren't.)

Idiotic on its face: Chauvin is in jail, and almost all of white America thinks he is guilty, at least of depraved negligence, if not downright malice.
Jim @ 7:54 a.m.
I remember all the riots in Minneapolis when that Somali cop killed the white yoga teacher. Seared in my memory.
Excellent point. Black cop kills a white woman who called 911, no riot in Minneapolis. It also shows that the Minneapolis PD has a history of misbehavior that did not begin this month. For nearly 60 years, Minneapolis has had Democrat mayors. (since 1961, with 3 days of a Republican Mayor around Jan 1, 1974). Conclusion: Minneapolis PD misbehavior is the responsibility of the Democrats running Minneapolis for the last 6 decades.
After Somali Cop Kills White Woman, Second Minneapolis Muslim Cop Arrested For Sick Crime.
This is paint-by-the-numbers left wing violence. And its participants will happily let black people take the blame for their bloodlust. It's like white privilege and toxic masculinity had a baby who was then bit by a radioactive marxist spider. Why are the shittiest people in the world so certain that they are the good guys?
Agreed.
It's an election year that is not looking good for Dems who have a possibly senile, possibly rapey, definitley white man as their presumptive nominee. The attempted destruction of the economy using forced shutdowns driven by media-induced hysteria over Covid-19 is failing due to civil disobediance. What to do?
The "never let a crisis go to waste" leftist hate-peddlers and race-mongers in the propaganda media seize on an opportunity to fan the flames of racial animosity. Even though most Americans agree that Floyd's death was wrong. Can't have unity and agreement in this county*; you dont get eyeballs glued to the screen over that, and you can't hurt Trump with it.
As expected, the useful-idiot leftist "educators" and "community organizers" encourage the angry, emotionally broken, intellectually stunted youth to take their anger to the streets. The DNC media narrative will be to blame the predictable rioting and chaos on Trump and racism (naturally).
I expect the riots to die out when the internal polling shows that they are only succeeding at pushing normal people away from the divisive Democrats.
*(Have I mentioned how much I hate our fucking media?)
One the tags the Professor used for this post was “race consciousness”. The media and Dems yammer about race 247 so it’s impossible to be unaware of race.
She then blocked me. She’s no Ann Althouse. She’s a third rate intellect. The faculty at my alma mater has really declined.
The U is what it is about. We went on a home tour a year ago. There are a bunch of old classic homes near the University, mostly lived in by faculty or admin. Beautiful homes with "Black Lives Matter" signs in the yard. How many would you guess are owned by blacks?
One nice thing; all the crime in Tucson is down there. None across the river where we live.
One, dumb cop does a really stupid thing in Minneapolis and the rest of us are supposed to flog ourselves with guilt and have a great awakening to things we have nothing to do with.
Chauvin is in jail, and almost all of white America thinks he is guilty ...
@Jim, @wholelottaspainin’, go back and read my comment at 9:47. What if Chauvin is not a dumb cop? What if he was fundamentally a good cop merely doing what he was trained to do, applying a technique for subduing a large, strong person who is resisting arrest that he was taught to apply and that he was told was safe to apply if done right? You can lock Chauvin up for 1000 years, but unless Minneapolis changes its policies and changes the techniques it teaches officers for subduing large, strong, strongly resisting people they are trying to arrest, it will just happen again.
If I was on the jury (I won’t be!) and the defense proved that Chauvin’s instructors taught him that the technique was safe, I would probably vote to acquit.
Say, Matt, after you eliminate the degenerates who's next in line - the Jews or the Gypsies?

And he is most certainly correct.
According to reports Lloyd was passed out for 2 minutes and 40 seconds and Chauvin was still pressing down on Lloyd's neck. What was the reason for that? Doubtful it was part of the police training. A dumb sadistic cop.
Agree.

Thank God for moderation. Otherwise, we'd get 50 comments like this, including the boring "How can you say that?!" responses.
Oh wait..Chris Wallace sorting it out with Cornel West....
Ain't nobody got time for dat, Walter!
Chris Wallace to Sen Tim Scott re phone call to Trump: Did you speak truth to power?
Great, great catch, Ann. White liberals have laid so many race-baiting land mines they no longer know where to step. This is Karen in Central Park, a good white liberal who got caught in one of her own land mines.
Liberalism is over ... I hope.
Somebody else must have already pointed out that Nicolas Chauvin (any relation?) is the eponym of Chauvinism.
Perhaps the systemic change needed is the dismantling of Police unions that protect bad cops.
Nahhhhhh....
Systemic statism has killed millions, if not billions, more than systemic racism (to the extent that it isn't just a catch-phrase to justify legalized looting by the State) ever has. See "Democide."
BTW the mayor of Hudson, WI, has requested Evers to send the National Guard.
"We need to behave, so they don't have to..."
Why do they always for riot for the lawbreakers and not the legitimate innocent victims? Trayvon was beating a guy's head in; Gentle Giant strong-armed a shopkeeper, robbed him, walked down the middle of the street like a dumbass and then attacked a cop; Freddie Gray was a drug dealer; Degenerate George was a former armed robber and, apparently, a current forger.
Meanwhile, a legitimately innocent black nurse was killed amost 3 months ago in KY:
1) in her own apartment
2) at midnight
3) when the cops busted into her apt, allegedly unannounced
4) looking for someone that didn't live there
5) AND THE SUSPECT WAS ALREADY IN CUSTODY
The name Breonna Taylor is on some signs now, at least. But nobody rioted over that complete and utter police f-up. Nope. But the former and current criminal - now that's who they riot for. Too bad Ms. Taylor's neighbor didn't have their phone on.
So, I say again, fuck George Floyd. I'll remember Breonna Taylor, a nurse serving her community during a pandemic.

Here's what (most) white people already know, and what black people should understand. When a white person says, "It's institutional racism" the subtext is "Don't blame me. I'm not racist. It's all those people who aren't like me." The claim of "institutional racism" is a cop-out. Racism is put into action by individual people. So if black incarceration rates are attributable to racism, it is not some amorphous "institutional racism" it is a series of actions by police officers, prosecutors, judges, members of juries, members of parole boards, etc. But in every case individual people taking actions which are (or are not) racist.
Someone referred to "Russian Collusion Liar Inga." That's unfair. Don't you know there is no truth but socialist truth, comrade?
If a group of radicalized, Rothbardian anarchists got angry at "systemic statism" and decided to torch IRS and BATF offices while beating up "liberals" and other State-fuckers, would they be justified? If not, why not? And why would that violence be unjustified, while the violence of the anti-police "protestors" is justified?
Bilwick: "Someone referred to "Russian Collusion Liar Inga." That's unfair. Don't you know there is no truth but socialist truth, comrade?"
I'm just another kulak wrecker.
>>For those not familiar with the Magnificent Mile this is a distance of three miles.
For the sake of accuracy, the distance from the water tower to Roosevelt Road is barely more than two miles. While a north-south mile is 8 "blocks"/800 street addresses elsewhere in Chicago, the distance from Madison(!) (ground 0) to Roosevelt Road (1200 South, where I went to high school a bit further west) is just a mile. The water tower itself is just past Chicago Avenue, 800 North, or one mile in the opposite direction. Michigan Avenue ends more or less at Oak Street, about a quarter mile further (in a high-rise containing Spiaggia, Tony Mantuano's pricy but nice Italian restaurant), with Lake Shore Drive/the lake to the east and residential high rises to the west.
In addition, the "Magnificent Mile" is just the part of Michigan Avenue north of the Chicago River, where all the fancy/pricy chains, etc., are located. Maybe three quarters of a mile in toto up to the water tower. If your information is otherwise correct, that's presumably where the window breaking occurred. And I am doubtful that there was any window breaking at Water Tower Place, aka the John Hancock building across the street from the water tower, or some of the other high rises in the area. Not to mention the water tower itself, where there aren't any windows to break.
South of the river, there are also few, if any, windows to break to the east. There are instead Millennium Park, Grant Park, and the Art Institute and, further to the south and east, the museum complex (Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, and Adler Planetarium), then Soldier Field still further south. Even on the west side of Michigan Avenue, not a lot of ground-level windows I can think of in, e.g., the "Cultural Center" (once upon a time the headquarters of the Chicago Public Library) or the former Conrad Hilton hotel (location of some of the riots in '68).
South of Roosevelt Road was a desolation in my time. Has become an up and coming area, I believe, but I'm doubtful there was any rioting there.

Yeah, that was Trump in that video as the tall masked white guy who started the riots by smashing windows at that Auto Zone in Minneapolis. Oh, and he was the young white female agitator from upstate NY who threw a somewhat-Molotov cocktail at a NYPD van with four cops in it. And, now that you mentioned it, I remember him dancing on the CNN logo the other night in Atlanta, holding the Mexican flag. And yeah, he WAS that woman who smacked a white cop in Baltimore twice, only to be clocked hard and fast by a black cop. Last of all, he caused those criminals in Dallas to brick-beat a man almost to death.
Thank you, Howard, for reminding us how Trump did all THAT. I would do the "/sarc" close, but I would find it deplorable that someone wouldn't give you credit for figuring out just how...mmmm...easy it is to see.
