"I had a great mom. I loved my mom and she loved me, which... is probably not easy to do."

"She was so good to me. I couldn’t do any wrong, which is a big problem. Maybe that’s why I ended up the way I ended up. I don’t know. I couldn’t do any wrong in her eyes."

Said Trump, quoted at AP.

I like his comical use of "which": "I loved my mom and she loved me, which... is probably not easy to do.... I couldn’t do any wrong, which is a big problem."

He uses "which" to signal a change in voice, from serious/positive to comical/self-effacing.

Trump is another child of Woody Allen. Figuratively, I mean, and without the messy personal complications. That could be why he strikes a chord with so many of us.

When I was a kid there was a show called FamilyAffair, with Buffy and Jody. Jody sang a song once “Every little boy can be president”. No one mentioned girls. Even at the time I thought it might be easier if you grew up in a Park Avenue apartment with a butler. We all knew about the Kennedys.

I would say second that my way of praying, if there is such a thing, if I pray, has more than one age in the same instant. There is something very childish and when one prays one is always a child - something childish, something archaic - gathering some memories of my childhood and the images, the imagery, the iconography of God as a grandfather, a severe, just grandfather with a beard and at the same time the mother who thinks I am innocent, that is, ready to forgive me, there are these images of a couple of terribly just but merciless father but just, understanding father, and a mother who trying to trust my innocence. This is the childish layer of my prayers.

It took a while to find the unedited quote, which differeed in another way -

“Well, all I can say is, 'Happy Mother’s Day,'” [Trump] said. “I had a great mom, I loved my mom, and she loved me which, I must tell you, [is?] probably not easy to do but she was so good to me. She was so good. I couldn’t do any wrong, which was a big problem, maybe that’s why I ended up the way I ended up, I don’t know, I couldn’t do any wrong in her eyes.”

My mother told me for the first 50 years of my life that I was her favorite child, of her six offspring. She usually answered the phone with this when I called home. She would announce "Ahh, Michael, my favorite child!" after I said, "Hello."

So I was about 50, sitting in her kitchen on a rare visit home, when my brother calls her. She picks up her phone, hears who it is, and announces, "Ahh, Kevin, my favorite child!" after he says "Hello."

After his call, she asked me why I was laughing so hard while she spoke with my brother.

Trump is so lucky to have a loving mother.

Maybe that is why he has persisted, and even flourished, despite the constant barrage of false and treasonous attacks on him and his family.

And we are so lucky to have this President! Every day I wonder if at 73+ he has had enough, but he just keeps on keepin' on.

It's the pronouns and sometimes the prepositions that, if you pay close enough to them, make other people think you're reading minds, when in fact you're just listening carefully.

One of the most striking and, ultimately, disturbing things about this era is that Trump is the actual grownup in the room. I don’t mean he’s some perfectly sober paragon but for all his foibles and flaws, Trump is fundamentally an adult with not only knowledge of the world around him but knowledge of himself.

Look at his enemies/critics. Comey. Schiff. The NeverTrumpers. The media. They may be wearing grownup clothes but they think and act like children or, at best, like stunted adolescents who never grew to understand that anything real exists outside of themselves.

Let me try and illustrate the difference between grownup and child. Trump has a huge ego and that allowed him to think he could be President but he ran because he actually wanted to help his country and his fellow citizens. He was doing it for others, not himself. Barack Obama, for all his good intentions, ran for President because that was the next chapter in The Book of Obama. Everything is always about him.

And you can see the difference in how much Trump, in three years, changed his own party and politics in general. There is an energized economic populism on the Right that was largely invisible and impotent before Trump came along. But eight years of Obama left no mark at all on his party or political movement at all. Calling someone a “Clinton Democrat” actually tells you something about who they are, for good or ill. So does calling someone a “Trump Republican.” What does it mean to be an “Obama Democrat?”

Trump's mother was being mugged when a guy happened by and chased the mugger away.

Trump paid off his mortgage.

Yahoo, of course, disapproved.

In his 2000 book, Trump explicitly rejected the arguments of criminal justice reformers — some of whom he counted among his friends — as elitist and naive. “They don’t like building more prisons. They believe, at the bottom of their hearts, that we put too many criminals in jail. It’s an embarrassment to them,” he wrote.

“I like to remind these friends that they would be singing a different tune if they didn’t have a doorman downstairs,” he wrote.

Boy, is that true !

@Michael K-

It's fascinating to read that Yahoo article, from May 2016, predicting what a President Trump would mean for criminal justice reform.

My Mom did the same thing. She wasn’t lying or pulling anyone’s leg, though. That was her gift. And there are three generations of people that honor her memory for it. Definitely more valuable than the persiflage of any politician or public figure.

Why? You think Democrats don’t have and love their children? Being a mother has been one of the best things that has happened to me while on this earth. Being chosen to be be someone’s mother in this incarnation has been an honor and a heartbreak after losing one of my children. Nothing I’ve done while here in this life compares to loving and nurturing my children.

Brain dead as usual. The Planned Parenthood industrial abortion provider supporter speaks up.

I have already posted here that I am pro-choice, dummy. I have seen bad things before abortion was legal.

Unlike you, I think it should be limited to a period prior to viability and the woman should be sterilized after her second abortion.

The Democrat Legislature in California prohibited post partum tubal ligation unless the "husband" consented in writing.

Idiots like you have no problem with such logical fallacies. The ban applied to voluntary post partum tubals on women who had already had four babies.

Illogical does not cover it.

“Unlike you, I think it should be limited to a period prior to viability...”

Over the years that I’ve commented here I’ve always said I was not in favor of late term abortion and that I’m in favor of limiting it to twenty weeks...or less depending on what gains modern science has made regarding viability. I’ve said numerous times that I’ve had four children and have not had any abortions or even considered having any. YOU PERFORMED ABORTIONS... not I. Get on your knees and ask God for forgiveness, instead of attacking a mother who has just expressed how she is honored to be a mother.

You are a hypocrite and really you have no platform on which to speak about abortion, or those who are pro choice. You performed abortions, not I. You are pro choice, same as I am.

I must say, you are one vile old geezer. Whatever gray matter you have left is used for the benefit of being an asshole. I feel sorry for your children, they must be so embarrassed by having someone like you as a father.

Says the Planned Parenthood supporter whose party supports abortion to actual birth.

I would say you are a hypocrite but you are too stupid to understand what you are doing. Senility seems to be the only explanation.

Even readering is appalled. In addition to a half dozen abortions when it was legal in 1969, I have done thousands of operations ranging from open heart surgery to breast biopsies. No bedpans though, You've got me there.
