“Photographer Julia Keil decided to turn the camera on herself, making a series of self-portraits inspired by paintings, the cinema or other photographs.”

Nice work... at BBC.

ADDED: My favorite is Picasso's Blue Period. Be sure to scroll down to that.

Way too self-absorbed for me. Look at me! LOOK AT ME!!

I was thinking that, too, Bill, but I enjoyed her recreations of notable works. She had few tools to work with, yet she was inspired and creative and resourceful.

Not nearly as inspired as @covidclassics on Instagram.

This blank stare and isolated state was something which I related to and sought to recreate.

Never let it be said that Althouse isn't on top of what reddit.com has exhibited for the past month, and which was posted on Instagram throughout March and earlier.

Ah, heck, go ahead and say it. This is old news, Althouse.

Getty Museum seems to have started the trend MArch 25, after seeing a few earlier attempts.

She's good looking. She knows she's good looking. She just wants to share her beauty. So giving.

That assumes it was news.

Hmm. I thought it was amazing. She's very good.

The blue Picasso is great. Like John, I was struck by the fried egg earrings.

She is a stunning woman.

More "Look at me! Look at how arty I am! Aren't I clever?" rich-people navel-gazing.

Liked the Vermeer. And the Leibovitz.

Pre-Raphaelite is not much of a stretch for her. The Picasso painting was the most haunting. "The shapes a bright container can contain!" She's different and beautiful in all those pictures.

She's good, both as a photographer and as a model.

She’s copying Cindy Sherman and acting as if she came up with the concept on her own. Imagine an artist painting Campbell Soup cans as if Andy Warhol never existed, explaining how the idea suddenly occurred to him.

Photographers (and artists) have been recreating classic or iconic images as long as I've been alive. (hint: A long time) The skin mags even did it in the 1960s/1970s.

Btw, Julia's first image is Gwyneth Paltrow in The Royal Tenenbaums.

It's more the opposite of Cindy Sherman. To say this is the same is to miss the key element of Cindy Sherman!

The Reddit stuff I've seen is distinctly different too — more comical. I've seen and liked that too, btw.

Don't assume that everything I haven't blogged I haven't seen.

And I never said this is an especially original idea. I think it's good in the execution.

I liked the Pulp Fiction, especially the array of stuff on the bed.

Love the red wig.

Who's taking these pictures? And is the photographer at least six feet away...?

She is good in her execution. My failure in comments above was not crediting you, Althouse, with a simple bloggerly comission when I accused dyou of an omission. I'm a great believer in citing sources, and appreciated learning about Cindy Sherman here.
