"Social distancing in India."

Social distancing in India from r/nextfuckinglevel

UPDATE: At Reddit, it says: "Sorry, this post was deleted by the person who originally posted it." The post showed a street with numerous lanes painted for pedestrians, and perhaps 6 feet of space between the lanes. People walked single file keeping what might have been 6 feet after each person. I think there were 3 lanes going one way, and 3 going the other way, and all of the lanes were full, continuous lines of people walking forward.

I don't believe this is real.

They should all be dancing.

You are breathing some of the air exhaled by the person in front you.

I'm praying that India can somehow surf this thing and avoid a complete catastrophe.

India will turn out to be our hypothetical.

Here in Long Beach,CA, they've closed the beach and the walking path and bike path that parallel it. The beach has a few spots that draw a crowd during the summer, but not at alk this time of year. However, some people like to sit and stare at the ocean and the ships moving about. There's plenty of room for lots of people to sit 6 feet apart - even during the summer, you can sit almost anywhere and be 50 yards apart. But, we can sit on our front lawns and watch people walk, ride their bikes or drive by.

So, we can't walk on the walking path, which is two to three times wider than the sidewalks, but we can use the sidewalks. Can't ride on the bike path, but it's ok to ride down the street.

I just don't get it.

Half of the measures are political CYA. We did something! We are saving lives! We are helping!

Let's hope the Wuhan virus doesn't like Indian humidity.

Social distancing isn't going to go far, literally, there, and of course they have even more people living on the edge.

All the more reason not to trash our economy: the rest of the world needs us to be strong and vibrant.

India has 1.3 Billion (with a b) people.

Think about that. !.3 fucking billion people.

And, most are living impoverished lives in lower castes in crowded, filthy spaces.

That means, by any reasonable inference, they have spread any and all viruses they all have amongst and between each other. All 1.4 billion of them.

And, yet, no major viral epidemic since Spanish Flu of 1918.

So many Covid-19 deaths in India? 29

Please interpret.

Why aren't they all dead?

I've spent a ton of time in India.

No way this is how it's rolling, generally.

it certainly suggests there is a factor, there is also it's proximity to china, would mean there would be more cases, but there aren't

It looked like there were people standing between the lanes, possibly to enforce lane discipline.

Some crazy denier was on here talking about temperature and humidity as if they have anything to do with virus transmission.

India is just 3 weeks behind Italy on the curve.

They are all going to die soon too.

You can websearch "Social Distancing India" to see the pictures (or others like them). Also a map of population density in India. Much of the country is not that densely populated. The Ganges River Valley is extremely well populated.

India is also telling people to greet each other with a "namaste," rather than a handshake.
