"... in Virginia this month.... Malvo, who was 17 when he committed the crimes, was arrested with John Allen Muhammad, and ultimately convicted of two murders in Virginia and six murders in Maryland. He was given life sentences without parole in all eight cases. Virginia recently changed its rules to consider parole for juvenile offenders after they have served 20 years, but if Malvo, now 35, were paroled from Virginia, he would then have to begin serving his Maryland sentences. Carmeta Albarus, who helped Malvo’s defense team in 2003 break the psychological grip Muhammad had exerted over the teenager, said Tuesday that she was a witness to the marriage. 'I was honored to be there,' Albarus said. 'It was a beautiful occasion, given the circumstances of where it took place... She’s an absolutely wonderful individual.... I believe the institution was very accommodating'...."

How did the lovebirds meet if he was in incarcirated? Is she one of those weirdos who has a thing for high profile prisoners?
"Red Onion"?!
Doesn't have the same connotation as "Attica".
I’ve always wondered, what is the point of letting prisoners get married while they’re in lock-up? We’ve decided, as a society, that they’re not entitled to basic freedoms and participation in normal life. Does it benefit anyone to make this exception?
I lived in Washington when these two creeps were on their murderous rampage. Millions of people lived in a constant state of fear whenever they were outside. They killed a dozen of us. He should never breathe the air of freedom or feel the joy he stole from others.
Lots of murderer groupies. The Night Stalker and the Menendez brothers all got married in prison. Tex Watson, of Manson fame, has kids with his wife.
If Malvo were an illegal entrant, democrats would have let him out of prison already.
With this knowledge we can all go back to not caring about this POS rotting in jail.
For some reason I always thought those two were gay.
Women who romance and marry convicted mass murderers are seriously deranged people.

J Farmer; you should know, as well as Anyone, that gay men marry straight women ALL THE TIME
John Allen Muhammad literally called the shots, but Malvo lined up the sights and squeezed the trigger. IMO he deserved the death penalty too.

Punishment for escape is a red onion up the keister. It's not pleasant.
Lee Boyd Malvo... was married in a ceremony at Red Onion State Prison in Virginia this month, two people close to Malvo confirmed Tuesday.
They did not identify the woman.
"You don't know my name, do you?"
"Mrs... it rhymes with a female body part."
Dave von Ronk used to play with the Red Onion Jazz Band.
Were they prisoners here?

...that are often indistinguishable from the not deranged ones.

I would think the software could be upgraded but I think she asked about that once.
So ignore that person.
the two black men who were killing were homosexuals
Retributive change or something else. Trans/homos? Apparently, at least one of them is trans/bi or gender tolerant. There was also a black trans/homo male that made the news, sort of kind, of, until it was no longer reported, as a serial rapist Yeah, objectionable to blacks, whites, masculine, feminine, and transgender. Fortunately, most people do not indulge diversity (i.e. color judgments) and other classes of bigotry.
He's a serial killer. Don't forget that.
At last ... a feel-good story.

Gay conversion therapy works!
Do they have conjugal visits at the Red Onion?
A lid for every pot, one supposes.
Did they invite the families of the people he murdered? You know, to share in the joy of the moment?
Awwww, isn't that nice.
Did they force some unwilling Christian or Jewish baker to make the cake for them?
Separately: I never went there, but I understand there used to be a Red Onion bar around here somewhere. It's a better name for a bar than a prison, I think.
There's also a Red Onion road in an upscale subdivision not far away, and a tiny hamlet called Leektown deep in the Pinelands to the south of where I live. Not many people use leeks in cooking, but I'm very fond of them.
Onions: Easy to grow, tasty (especially sliced thick and grilled), and sometimes colorful. What's not to like?
What type of sick pervert marries a serial killer?
Douglas: It's a very well-known phenomenon. Strangely, there is a subset of women who are attracted to "dangerous" men. They write to them in prison, find ways to see them, etc.
Even run-of-the-mill thugs who don't make the national news never lack for offers.
Just another weird thing about human nature.
What type of sick pervert marries a serial killer?
A female one. I don't think Randy Kraft got too many offers. I was involved in his capture.
Michael K.: I downloaded your book yesterday. I'm looking forward to reading it in a month or so when I am retired.
Well, they can't all be Ted Bundy, but he's better looking than Son of Sam and better behaved than Jeffrey Dahmer. Not the worst possible serial killer she could have chosen. Plus, there's a good chance that someday, maybe in another twenty or thirty years, he'll get out and they can go on to experience a married life together. Let's hope their love doesn't fade over time.
WaPo: It is half of a two-man team THAT terrorized, not (shudder) "which" terrorized. Sheesh.
@gilbar:

Certainly. I wasn't claiming that this made him not gay only that I always sort of thought they were, even though I did not follow that case particularly closely. I was an undergrad at the time and starting a small business so didn't have much time for keeping up with the news.
The subculture of serial killer groupies is interesting. Richard Ramirez had a small band of female followers who would show up in the courtroom gallery. Ted Bundy managed to father a child, though precisely how is still debated. Florida does not permit conjugal visits to death row inmates. There is speculation that he bribed a guard, and his wife smuggled his semen out of the prison in a manner I do not wish to describe here. Although in her defense, I think she actually believed he was innocent and supposedly ended it after Bundy finally confessed. I think a lot of the other women have no real interest in forming relationships with these people if an opportunity arose but mainly just enjoyed the attention and limelight. But the attraction to "bad boys" is certainly a real phenomenon. There is a similar subculture in the gay community known as "rough trade."
He found a woman to marry? Who knew he had a shot.....

You could leave out the "mass" and it would still be true.
They met visiting some bars
I feel sorry for Malvo. He was just a kid. On the other hand, I felt the normal amount of teenage rage, maybe more so, at seventeen, but I would never have killed anyone. I shot a robin with BB gun when I was a teenager and felt like crap for a long time. I still feel guilty about it, ending a life for a little entertainment. It's not like a robin is a spider.
Too bad his victims will not have the same opportunity. But, of course, that not a consideration for the bleeding hearts who ‘accommodate’ this nonsense.

I remember in that case the FBI profile said all signs pointed to killer being a lone, enraged, middle-aged man of the white race. Then it turns out to be a black not middle-aged male, with a teenage immigrant sidekick. Oops. I haven't heard as much about profiling since then, except as an accusation that it's being used, and that its use is racist or Islamaphopic.
I too, traveled the DC corridor during their murder spree. I still remember the fear.
I feel sorry for Malvo. He was just a kid.
@Louis Wetzel, based on the rest of your comment I think you will agree with me that 17 is plenty old enough to know that lining up in your gun sights a person you do not know and who has never done anything in his life to hurt you, and then squeezing the trigger is absolutely the wrong thing to do.

IIRC the FBI profilers predicted that Richard Jewell would turn out to be the Centennial Park bomber. Oops again.
