And nowhere is the promise of innovation greater than in American-made energy. Over the last three years, we’ve opened millions of new acres for oil and gas exploration, and tonight, I’m directing my administration to open more than 75 percent of our potential offshore oil and gas resources. Right now -- right now -- American oil production is the highest that it’s been in eight years. That’s right -- eight years. Not only that -- last year, we relied less on foreign oil than in any of the past 16 years. But with only 2 percent of the world’s oil reserves, oil isn’t enough. This country needs an all-out, all-of-the-above strategy that develops every available source of American energy. A strategy that’s cleaner, cheaper, and full of new jobs. We have a supply of natural gas that can last America nearly 100 years. And my administration will take every possible action to safely develop this energy. Experts believe this will support more than 600,000 jobs by the end of the decade.
TV police series new cliche - important team member is shot in the head, falls, end episode. Next episode he's wheeled into the hospital. Bullet missed doing any damage but he's in a coma for unexplained reasons. Screenwriter slack created.
What's interesting about the Trump impeachment is that it has brought a number of ugly Democrat scandals to light. It has also exposed the duplicity of the deep state.
The Democrats and media pounded Trump for 3 years, only to increase the size and resolve of his base. People who held their nose and voted for Trump in 2016 will now crawl across broken glass to vote for him.
Pelosi's first instinct was to avoid impeachment, but the rabid left wanted blood. At this point I'm convinced Pelosi regrets pursuing impeachment. Adam Schiff, Jerry Nadler and AOC have become the face of the Democrat Party in 2020.
Trump's three year rope-a-dope with the Democrats has created a favorable environment for GOP House and Senate candidates. I hope the GOP appreciates what Trump has done.
Loved Nigel Farage's farewell speech to EU which included, "There is a historic battle going on now across the West, in Europe, America, and elsewhere. It is globalism vs. populism. And you may loathe populism, but I tell you a funny thing: it's becoming very popular."
Put me on the side of the ledger titled "Doesn't Get Interest in Ice Fishing". And the column "Nor Brandy Old-Fashioned".
Was a little surprised to see they are holding the Superbowl this year, despite the Patriots non-qualification for the game. Leaning toward supporting KC - that Mahomes kid is special, but have a weak spot for Jimmy G and the Niners. Will be a fun game either way. Unlikely I'll make it to the end awake.
It seems that Prime Suspect episode is actually from 1991, not 2005, making Helen Mirren only 47. So much for Comcast's program info. She still looks good in later years, though.
I have been binging the "Inspector Morse" and the follow on series "Lewis". Highly recommended. The two shows span the period from 1987 to 2015. Have reached the last season of "Lewis". Been a great 5 weeks of evening television.

Went to the live cast of the Met's Porgy and Bess. Before the opera began, Peter Gelb the manager came on to state his hope that despite the recent depressing event, the opera would serve to brighten people's mood.
Great drama No car chases Very little sex and violence No car chases No orange fireballs Interesting plots, almost impossible to figure out even at the end
robother: I was at the performance of Wozzeck at the Met on 1/19. Afterwards Gelb came out for the post-production schmooze and made two political remarks so viciously vile that I said out loud—to the distaste of the woman next to me—that the Met would never get another penny from me as long as he remains involved. Which is apparently until 2027. So I’ll be saving many thousands. What an asshole.
Joyce Didonato also alluded to the political situation in her intermission interview in the radio broadcast of Porgy and Bess. They all seem to be driving themselves to distraction.

I noticed Peter Gelb's nonsense, too, although I stayed by the radio rather than going to the theatre. Tsk. Perhaps he was talking about the nCov.
I also heard someone during one of the intervals, perhaps Audra McDonald, perhaps someone else, refer to the innate understanding that 'we' have of the experiences of Porgy and Bess that the Met company lack. Which I thought rather racist, to be honest.
It is funny- "Prime Suspect" was really my first introduction to British crime mysteries- I watched it when it first aired on PBS, and I kept current with it up through the third series, but then didn't really rediscover the genre until we got streaming a couple of years ago. Now it is almost the only stuff I watch any longer. Is seemingly an bottomless well of entertainment.

You seemed to lose some interest, when the questions got a lot harder as to why an unsigned statement would emerge from NOAA, offering a curiously vague defense of Trump.
I liked the prequel to "Prime Suspect", but I think it actually needed more series for the writers to develop the back story of Jane Tennison, and it didn't get that time unfortunately.
There was a head-scratching email chain at work last week. One customer kept complaining about software problems with TLS and our support guy kept getting back seemingly non-sequiter answers to his questions trying to elicit details. Finally it turned out that TLS was not Transport Layer Security as all us computer types assumed, but a business unit at the company making the support call. They did have a sofware problem, but of a completely different type than we were digging at.
I also had a co-worker relate this one to me while I was working at Fort Bragg NC: The guys at my company were waiting for an important equipment delivery and finally got a call from the truck driver asking directions. My friend tried to establish his location so he could direct him in, but never could pin him down. Finally he said something like, just go to the main gate and I'll give you directions from there. When *that* call came in he still couldn't get any sensible location markers from the driver. It finally turned out that the delivery had gone to Fort Bragg CA and the truck was calling from *there*...
Chuck, it has been a while- are there any updates on the Case of the Pecan Pie? Did anyone find where it was purchased? Surely someone went store to store in the area checking for receipts.
The duet Leonardo Says from Facing Goya by Michael Nyman. This is a very strange opera, and the libretto makes no real sense, but I love the music to distraction.

I love them all, but Lewis has been my favorite. And the main reason was Laurence Fox as Hathaway.
And now I find out he is a no bullshit kinda guy. He denied that Princess what's-her-name was a victim of racism. (I watched her show Suits and did not have a clue she was "black" until they introduced her TV father as black) The PC people exploded in the British press last week. He is now the target of the cancel culture and is fighting back.
There are several versions of this piece by Gavin Bryars, built around a recording of a homeless man singing a refrain. It will either drive you spare or entrance you. I find it incredibly beautiful. This version is 22 minutes.

Check for an earpiece. Back in the day, you'd see people wandering around talking to themselves and you'd know they were crazy. Nowadays, they're just yakking on the phone. Sometimes you think someone is talking to you when they say something but they are actually talking to someone else.
Do we know whether or not Trump is getting secret payments from the Sharpie company? Could all of this be an elaborate scheme to enrich the Trumps and give valuable advertising to a gangster corporation? And how do we even know Trump used a Sharpie? Could have easily been an EXPO. I think it important to immediately issue a fake subpoena for the diagram with the Sharpie writing on it- especially before some dips it in bleach and wipes it with a cloth.

Trump challenges the Dems to an ice fishing contest. First day results Trump catches 75 fish, Democrats nothing. Second day Trump gets over 100 fish, Dems zero, third day Trump 200 plus, Dems strike out. Dems suspect Trump is cheating so they send Biden to spy on Trump. Biden comes back, “We were right, Trump is cheating. He’s cutting holes in the ice!
The problem with arguing with Chuck is that he argues like a shyster lawyer. He isn’t trying to get at the truth, he’s trying to win a case, and sometimes that means, well, to put it charitably, to deemphasize the truth.
I believe every word I read about Trump has not been filtered through the lens of leakers who want him removed. So you can take that stuff to the bank, just memorize it and don’t worry your head with questions anymore.

Stealing it.
No fishable ice in most of Michigan. Very frustrating. Not even on the small, sheltered lakes.
Guys were able to get out for a week or so back in November, but that's been it.
You don’t have to do anything. Just skip over them. Chuck (with a capital ‘c’) is a moby who tries to pretend he is a middle-aged, successful, lawyer and “country club” type of Republican. But he gets details wrong, and a good guess is that he may have met one or two country club Republicans, but clearly he isn’t one himself. He’s being paid to comment on right of center blogs and try to wreck threads. One of the shadowy billionaires who bought the Democrats for what they’d regard as pocket change, a guy named Reid Hoffman, has admitted to paying twenty-something guys living in mommy’s basement to pretend to be Republicans disgusted with Trump. If Chuck doesn’t get his money directly or indirectly from Hoffman, then it’s someone else (Soros? Steyer? Bloomberg?) with deep pockets and a love of keeping his foot in our faces.

He said he felt like he was on an anthill, where people were walking on top of each other. Maybe they release a new Flu strain every now and then, watch it's spread and the reporting of same, letting the West to do their statistics. Kinda like watching football game films.

I'm visiting in a rural area where I have to use a hotspot to get coverage. Some shows and sites simply won't download under hotspot's limitations, others suddenly pixellate the characters' faces. Speeches cut off at dramatic moments in mid-gesture. The library has stepped in to supply a continuous, non-pixellated experience so I'm not cut off, I just have to plan. I was amazed at how dependent I had become on broadband even though I don't spend hours and hours on it. I expect to be able to flick to google and look things up, I expect to be able to jump to songs or clips people mention and then jump back to what I'm reading. No, no, it's uphill through pixel blizzards if you change anything. I am reading more real books which I tell myself is great but still my true feeling is: Support Rural Broadband!!
This Wuhan Flu is doing for air travel what decades of hectoring by watermelons was unable to do. I have no plans to get on an airplane until this is over. It’s pretty clear now that it is a virus concocted by the Chinese, so who knows how long it will survive.

So this is so sad and pathetic. He's like Captain Queeg, without the personality.
Lol. None of you want to talk about the specifics of what was reported; how NOAA senior staff may have been — pretty clearly were — ordered to put out a public statement to provide phony cover to Trump’s Sharpie debacle. But again, TrumpWorld’s standard, brainless reaction is to attack the messenger.
On a subject Althouse has blogged at least two or three times.

But remember he was so focused on alabama!! That he missed the summit in warsaw, what kind of a supervillain is he, lol.
Enjoying Vera on PBS the last couple of months.
As to Chuck, I am sure he and Schiff will find the second key to the pantry, using geometric logic, and will finally have DJT for good this time.
These are just pedestrian conspiracies, honestly. You delay sone weapons deliveries for a few weeks that would take a while to get to the destination.
Yes they set endeavour in the past but with uberwoke sensibilities
The duet Leonardo Says from Facing Goya by Michael Nyman.
This is a very strange opera, and the libretto makes no real sense, but I love the music to distraction.

More Nyman, orchestral this time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFlXbvwK9R8
Have reached the last season of "Lewis".
When will pbs take up line of duty, or would they have to edit too much. Hbo isdoing the cormorant atrike series from jk rowling.
Hes the son of edward fox the jackal in thr original film and the slithy british bureaucrat in patriot games.
The new iraqi prime minister, is already hated by the protesters.
—Midsomer Murders prides itself on inventing novel ways of killing without gore.—
All 21 seasons. It took us weeks.
One of my faves was the guy who burned to death in the pyre. The town was celebrating something and setting a mock-up on fire.
They really do come up with innovative ways.
I liked being forked by the forklift, too. The biscuit factory.
So what have we learned? Never go to Oxford, Midsomer or St. Mary Mead where Miss Marple lived.
They drop like flies.
And they hide a lot of bodies in churches.
Its like cabot cove, or apparently hastings in inspector foyle.
There are several versions of this piece by Gavin Bryars, built around a recording of a homeless man singing a refrain. It will either drive you spare or entrance you. I find it incredibly beautiful. This version is 22 minutes.

Now one of the things that was good about tbodyguard was that it was unpredictable and quite modern in its sensibilities
Who did you think were the villains and whi actually turned out to be.
I didn't know he was Edward Fox's son. The father was in an episode in series 6 of "Lewis".
It was James Fox in "Patriot Games". I think he is the brother of Edward.
I most remember Edward Fox as the British general who massacres the India protestors in "Ghandi".
I guess Chuck has passed out drunk. Now I won't ever learn the true story behind the suspect pastry.

Have you ever had someone in conversation respond as if they were having a completely different conversation? Had that happen today. It was very bizarre. I wondered if the person might be deaf but didn't want to say so.
Check for an earpiece. Back in the day, you'd see people wandering around talking to themselves and you'd know they were crazy. Nowadays, they're just yakking on the phone. Sometimes you think someone is talking to you when they say something but they are actually talking to someone else.
Sharpiegate? LOL.
When I think of Chuck, I think of this scene from Animal House: All Is Well
Do we know whether or not Trump is getting secret payments from the Sharpie company? Could all of this be an elaborate scheme to enrich the Trumps and give valuable advertising to a gangster corporation? And how do we even know Trump used a Sharpie? Could have easily been an EXPO. I think it important to immediately issue a fake subpoena for the diagram with the Sharpie writing on it- especially before some dips it in bleach and wipes it with a cloth.
Kung Flu masters? What's up w/China and flu?
2010 study conducted at the Wuhan Institute of Virology - the scientists were purposely crossing HIV spikes with Coronavirus to make something more infectious in bats.
They infected 7 species and found 2 were good carriers.
Why?

Trump challenges the Dems to an ice fishing contest. First day results Trump catches 75 fish, Democrats nothing. Second day Trump gets over 100 fish, Dems zero, third day Trump 200 plus, Dems strike out. Dems suspect Trump is cheating so they send Biden to spy on Trump.
Biden comes back, “We were right, Trump is cheating. He’s cutting holes in the ice!
Drinking Singapore Slings in Singapore!
The down side: Having to read Chuck’s comments.

The down side: Having to read Chuck’s comments.

Perhaps population density plays a part. Back in the day, I knew a Chinese Professor who came from "a small town" of 6 million. When our project manager traveled to the university at the town, he went bonkers. He said he felt like he was on an anthill, where people were walking on top of each other.
Maybe they release a new Flu strain every now and then, watch it's spread and the reporting of same, letting the West to do their statistics. Kinda like watching football game films.
Chuck is AA's blog's comic relief, picture Marty Feldman.
Serious Question
What color was that Sharpie?
Was it Strawberry?
"stevew said...
Great photo. Love the color and composition."
No. It's been over a week since we had sunshine.
I love how WeHavetheMeats calls out Althouse in his posts, despite her never responding.
"Chuck is AA's blog's comic relief, picture Marty Feldman.”
If some billionaire is paying them, we should thank him for the entertainment. But maybe he figures that he is driving out moderates who would otherwise hear a pro Trump point of view that he would rather them not hear.
We have snow in Ohio too

Nobody is paying Chuck.
You pay for influence, not ridicule.
What malady afflicts ice fishers?
"Polar"oids.
"the absence of a snappy handle"
I'm rather partial to "Kung Flu" or "Corona-chan", myself.
Not a lot of news about Julian Assange lately. I wonder why. Linked article is from last September.
"Support Rural Broadband!!”
There has to be some place people can go where not every move is watched by big tech.
"Wuhan Flu" captures it all.
"The ice fisherman is captain of his soul.” I read that somewhere.
Browndog... sent your ice fishing joke to a friend in his shanty "up nort". He passed it around to the others out on the ice. 5 outta 5 stars!
This Wuhan Flu is doing for air travel what decades of hectoring by watermelons was unable to do. I have no plans to get on an airplane until this is over. It’s pretty clear now that it is a virus concocted by the Chinese, so who knows how long it will survive.
Turns out that there are 25K Chinese college. students in Boston, is that right? I guess it’s plausible, and the Wuhan Flu has shown up there now.

Here you go, Althouse; a terrific follow up by the New York Times, to Sharpiegate. It was worth a couple of blog posts for you at the time. You seemed to lose some interest, when the questions got a lot harder as to why an unsigned statement would emerge from NOAA, offering a curiously vague defense of Trump."
There are details worth discussing. New details, as redacted materials are revealed. Not reporters’ opinions. Original source documents.
But again, TrumpWorld’s standard, brainless reaction is to attack the messenger.
On a subject Althouse has blogged at least two or three times.
Getting on an airplane soonish. Not to China.

How sad and pathetic that after three years all Wehavethemeats has is some article by the left NYT's that Trump "may have" done something that no one cares about. Oh my god, an agency asked to cover some President's embarrassing moment! "may have!" LOL
Now for a more important question, what food is part of Arby's Two for $5 Mix 'N Match Deal? Or did they let you go? You have been on more at night lately.
Laurence Fox is now "meeting with his critics." You can be sure he'll never whisper another politically incorrect line.
John Thaw and Robbie Coltrane (Morse and Cracker) both played sort of "woke" characters, but they were glorious male specimens anyway. You can practically smell the louche testosterone. Modern male movie stars are such hairless babies.
