"Having a period already causes me a lot of [gender] dysphoria, but this dysphoria becomes heightened when I have to shop for a product that is labeled as ‘women’s health’ and in most cases, is pretty and pink."

Said transgender model and activist Kenny Ethan Jones, quoted in "For transgender men, pain of menstruation is more than just physical/Safety concerns and a lack of access to menstruation products are among the issues trans and gender-nonconforming people face during 'that time of the month'" (NBC News).

ADDED: I call bullshit on the assertion that the packaging is "pretty and pink." Tampon packages tend to be blue. The iconic tampon brand Tampax is packaged in blue and has been for decades. And it has not been distinctly "pretty." Rather, it looks serious and nondescript. Discretion is the idea!

This is without a doubt the stupidest article ever written.

WOMEN get periods. Only women. If you are having a period, guess what, you are a woman. If you think you'd rather be a dude, get rid of your uterus.

Every single girl who has experienced her first period (and grown boobs, and cried for no reason at nothing) has had that feeling of not being in control of her own body. That is PUBERTY. Do not think you are special or unique because that particular part of growing up sucked for you. It sucks. Period.

The expense of monthly tampons and pads is only an issue now that MEN have to worry about it? Literally HALF the world has had to deal with this but only now is it an issue?

Every dad of a daughter has had to buy one of those "pink" boxes (although strangely mine are usually blue, what's up with that) at some point. If dad can deal with it, you can, too. Grow a pair. Oh, wait.

What an ingrate. I watched two immediate family members deal with chronic, debilitating illnesses that destroyed them slowly, then quickly. They never once complained: they had to monitor themselves every hour of every day just to stay alive. That sort of courage is common among people handed a genetic bad deal, not of their own choosing.

99% of current transgender claims are ornate efforts to get on the victimization train. The activist-educational-complex is grooming these children like child molesters groom their targets.

I don't think she ever thought it would become true.

One of the bits was about how if men got periods they would start bragging about how heavy their flow was and trying to top each other. "My period was so heavy last month that I had to use 2 tampons at the same time."

"Shit Barney, that ain't nothing. I had to use 3 tampons and a pad!"

I went to youtube to see if I could find it. Turns out that "If men got periods" is a whole genre on youtube.

Here's a public service ad from ABC.com which is not about women who think they are men but about how horrible tampons are for the environment or something.

I liked the fake ad for "Manpons" made from kevlar with a titanium applicator and a bunch of other manly features.

"'I didn’t believe that having periods would be a part of my lived experience,' Jones told NBC News." Thank God he said, "lived experience," rather than a confusing work like "life."

“People are still reluctant to the idea that it’s not only women that experience periods.” I wonder why ...

"A box of 36 tampons, which could easily be used within one menstruation period, could cost as much as $12 — that’s significantly more than the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour." Maybe a good slogan would help. "No taxation without menstruation representation!" Eh, needs work.

"Trans individuals, according to Heng-Lehtinen, 'are experiencing poverty, unemployment and underemployment at higher rates, so there is absolutely economic vulnerability here.'” But is it a part of their lived experience?

Darkisland said...

Re cost, how much does a month's supply of tampons or pads cost vs what a man spends on shaving gear?

Looking on Amazon, it seems like tampons go for 25-50 cents with some even cheaper. That would make it $1-2 dollars a day 3 days a month.

Some men use a new blade every day. 30 days a month.

Or they buy Schick Hydro 5 and use the same blade for 40-50 days. I just used the next to the last cartridge in a 5 pack I bought in 2018. I shave every day.

Howard: another Rosanne Rosannadanna moment. The Christian Right, evangelical churches, and their alternative insurance programs are in a years-long campaign to end obesity and reward healthy eating. In order to purchase the limited-insurance programs offered as religious-exemption alternatives to Obamacare, you have to show you are not obese. If you are on narcotics, you have to medically justify them or get help to wean off -- which they offer for free with NA and AA groups sponsored by ... churches of course. If you are overweight, for a very low cost you can join a transitional weight-loss program with some coverage. If you meet weight-loss goals, you can buy the regular program in six months. If only regular insurance companies could offer the same.

I'm not part of the evangelical community, but I speak at their churches, and it's fascinating to watch this effective, national-scale self-help program, completely ignored by the media so people like you can maintain your socially sanctioned sneering.

I don’t know if this is something that the commenter Tina Trent was referring to, but her comment piqued my interest in alternative ways of obtaining health insurance.

An estimated 1 million Americans pay for health care expenses through sharing ministries.

“Chelsey, a commercial electrical contractor who runs a marine safety company, sought the advice of an insurance broker, who suggested looking into an alternative to the ACA: a health care sharing ministry. Chelsey was a member of the local hospital board, but he had never heard of such a thing. But he soon learned he could pay $300 a month for health care through a ministry, with a $500 deductible per person. He signed up with a ministry that originally established by Mennonites, Liberty HealthShare, and his application was approved.

In a shifting health insurance landscape, and with frequent threats from the White House and Capitol Hill to gut the ACA, Chesley is one of a growing number of Americans who have turned again to health care sharing to pay for medical expenses.”

My awareness of the Christian alternative-to-insurance programs that Tina Trent may've referred to stems from my desire to remain uninvolved in government-required nonsense that commercial health insurance companies have to deal with-- abortion, contraception, gender nonsense etc: they are exempt from ACA requirements. Samaritan Ministries, Medi-Share, Christian Healthcare Ministries, Liberty Health and others.

I just loved this part:

"In a shifting health insurance landscape, and with frequent threats from the White House and Capitol Hill to gut the ACA, Chesley is one of a growing number of Americans who have turned again to health care sharing to pay for medical expenses.”

Of course, Chesley's change to the ministries program had nothing to do with threats from the White House and Capitol Hill about gutting the ACA- it had everything to do with the fact that he was going to have to pay $36,000 dollars for his family health care plan in 2017 on the ACA, and this changeover was selected in December of 2016- before Trump took office.

What was even funnier in the article was the complaint about how Chesley's saved $30k hurt the exchanges when he abandoned them. You just can't make this shit up any longer.

Inga said...

So, I guess the Christian alternatives to health insurance won’t cover gender reassignment surgery, eh?

It’s a joke, don’t get triggered.

Yancey Ward said...

And MaryBeth probably doesn't owe you an apology, Inga- it doesn't appear the churches sell insurance.

Marc in Eugene said...

Leave it to someone who is known to be a partisan of government-financed health care to find an NPR article describing the alternative-to-insurance business. "[So and so] a former Sunday school teacher, bristled at the idea of someone not receiving certain kinds of health care because of a person’s professed religious beliefs"-- this is like the fellow who goes out to buy beer, buys perry instead, and then complains in a letter to the editor of his local newspaper that he meant to buy beer and the evil store clerk sold him perry.

Tina Trent said...

Inga I am referring to cost-sharing insurance alternatives allowed under religious exemptions to Obamacare.

They’re not regular insurance. But they’re a good alternative for the many people who can’t afford to pay for all that birth control, pricey ineffectual inpatient rehab, Viagra, sexually transmitted diseases (with exceptions), abortions, sex change operations, vanity vein reductions and other predictable subsidized outcomes to the zeitgeist.

They offer interesting models for catastrophic care coverage. Many people would choose to buy insurance modeled on their rules differentiating between avoidable and unavoidable medical problems. And their rules on obesity and addiction are also interesting.

Inga said...

“And MaryBeth probably doesn't owe you an apology, Inga- it doesn't appear the churches sell insurance.”

They may not sell it, but they are providing ways of getting health care in a pool of participating members. Sort of like some sort of universal health care. Mary Beth was mistaken in that she thought Tina Trent was referring merely to programs that helped people lose weight, stop drinking, get in shape, etc to qualify for health insurance. So yes she does owe me an apology.

I’m all for private groups getting together and cost sharing their health care. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. The larger the group, the better, less expensive when there are many people. Wonderful idea.

Marybeth didn’t have a beef with me speaking about churches providing health insurance (or an alternative to it), she mistakenly thought Tina was speaking about PROGRAMS that helped people QUALIFY for heath insurance. So yes, she accused me of misunderstanding the gist of Tina Trent’s comment. I was not mistaken, she was.

They aren't selling anything, and can't do so specifically because of the insurance regulations at the state level.

One of the difficulties with health or property insurance companies merging (e.g., Anthem) or consolidating operations (e.g., State Farm) is that each state has an insurance commission that sets regulations. Hence, operating costs are much higher.

It makes things more expensive for consumers but provides good bureaucrat jobs for loyalists of both parties.

Yancy is probably correct in assuming that no state insurance commissions allow churches to sell insurance, even if they wanted to.

Inga said...

Religious cost-sharing medical pools also ask members to donate to especially expensive cases, and they set aside some money from premiums for cases you can choose to help. So it's a partially self-regulating pool. And most participants send in extra money a few times a year. You also get prayer requests.

It is interesting. Imagine if other groups set up such plans.

I had a nice conversation with a church friend this morning in which she talked about another friend, a woman I don't know. The friend had lost her husband and daughter in a tragic accident, leaving one son. The friend is on her second round of cancer, which she is facing alone, having buried her husband (and, daughter). Her remaining son has now decided that he is transgender and wants to be a female. So with all this woman's burdens, what with the widowhood and having lost a child already and battling cancer, now she is also trying to manage this situation, drive her son across the state for hormone therapy, figure out what to tell her friends, etc.

Many transgenders have a hard time being likeable, that's all I'm saying. Many of them would be far better served getting their personality disorders which cause them to guilt their families into turning their lives inside out to accommodate their "medical" "needs" treated.

Inga thinks this can be denied.

Which is not surprising since she still passionately believes in the following hoaxes:
-Carter Page is a russian spy and not a CIA asset (even though CIA officials officially testified that he was)

= Trump and his campaign colluded with the russians

- Brett Kavanaugh is a gang rape leader and raped hundreds of women in Maryland over 2 decades

This is the sort of stuff Inga buys into while believing she can pretend the democrats didn't stand on a stage and raise their hands like little commie morons for Medicare for All.

Inga also thinks the dem party doesn't stand for infancticide either!

It just keeps getting better an better.

Yes, funny how this aspect isn't the subject of headlines and insistent questioning during media interviews and debates. Also hysterically funny is the fact that the goal of people such as Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel (Rahm's brother and a consultant in the crafting of Obamacare)and the influential organization Physicians For a National Healthcare Program is to eliminate the ability to get any treatment outside of the system even if you want to pay for it out of pocket. Their website used to say that explicitly; I just checked and now they couch what seems to be the same idea in the following item on their list of key features of their proposed plan:
Ban on For-Profit Health Care Providers
--Profit seeking inevitably distorts care and diverts resources from patients to investors

I think those alternative health share programs call themselves religious to qualify as an exception. They aren't insurance. Not even comparable. God forbid, literally one hopes, you join one of those and develop a serious health issue require ongoing treatment. They won't cover it. They're not required to cover anything at all. It's a holding pool for people without health problems to wait until they have health problems to get real insurance during an open enrollment period. In other words, a way for healthy people to avoid having to pay for sick people while feeling like they're doing some faith-building thing. (Until they really get sick. Then they're screwed.)

So you can take your question mark and stick up your shriveled up twat, you dumbfuck.

Yancey Ward said...

Freeman Hunt is correct- these are limited coverage pools. It would the sort of thing where people pool money for car maintenance and repair- nobody would be fool enough to allow someone in with a 25 year old clunker that burns a quart of oil every day, or had four bald tires.

That regulators of insurance have tried to shut these down isn't surprising- their existence does worsen the insurance pools by drawing off the healthiest potential premium payers, but that was always the problem with the ACA- it depends on gouging the healthy and the young. There wouldn't necessarily be an ethical problem with this but for the fact that the young and healthy's insurance premiums aren't being set aside to pay for their higher costs in later life. The structure is pure Ponzi.

Inga said...

“MaryBeth pointed out that the churches aren't selling health insurance, and you then demanded an apology for that comment.”
