Football snippet, Drudge-style.

I watched all or large parts of three of the games. For the Ravens, it seemed that Lamar Jackson was a little off target all night. He hadn’t played for three weeks because he missed the final game of the regular season due to concussion recovery protocol, and then they had the bye week. But I also had joked that the Ravens needed to borrow an M1 Abrams tank from the army to practice tackling Derrick Henry. Turns out that’s not so funny!

I'm hoping someone sits the KC players down and explains to them that the first quarter is part of the game, and they're allowed to actually play football during that time.

I worked all 3 shifts at my job. The 3rd shift (11 pm to 7 am) started on Sunday night. Our boss always said these words the week before the Super Bowl: "If any one you calls in sick Sunday night, you're fired." Nobody called in sick Sunday night.

For the season KC is first in second quarter scoring, average in other quarters.

Not to overlook the Packers, but I'm dreaming of an SF-KC Super Bowl, which will shatter all records of hype, attendance and ratings.

Go Niners!

Vrabel and the Titans coaching staff put together a very good game plan. First, chew up yards and clock by running with Henry. Then, play defense in such a way as to slow or stop the running game of the Ravens, make Jackson beat you with his arm. Perfectly designed and executed.

I do not think that plan will work with KC. Mahomes and that offense are just too explosive. In fact, if KC can get into a shootout with the Titans, take away the running game and dare Tannehill to move the team through the air, I like KC's chances.

Henry has become a monster. I'd be put 8 guys in the box and shut him down. He is the Titans.

Agree with Big Mike about Lamar Jackson. Maybe nerves, trying too hard, but he wasn't on his game. Even so, the Titans played impressively.

Sorry to see the Seahawks lose but they are a team with severe deficits this year. Not just the three injured RBs but a truly lame defensive secondary. But the Pack certainly deserved the win, played better than usual [IMO] and I'll be rooting for them against SF.

Now, the AFC is more complicated for me. Both the Titans and the Chiefs are super-exciting to watch. Should be a great game!

Stevew: That little ploy with the time-clock was clever and really unnerved Belichick, I think. I'd say the Pats were outcoached by the Titans.

Not a big football fan although I did watch most of those games. I'm commenting to ask, why the masculine beauty tag? Yes, Rogers is classically handsome, but I was much struck by the feminine beauty of the smiling Mahomes, seen through the facemask. Those eyes! I found much beauty watching Henry move. Is the masculine beauty tag a standing Althouse joke I've missed?

Off now to put on a pork shoulder butt to serve before tonight's game. Geaux Tigers!

You know who'd be really excited for a Packers-Chiefs Super Bowl? State Farm's ad agency.

We're a Chiefs household because of Mahomes (his father played for our minor league baseball team about 10 years ago, when we had front-row season tickets - he and my daughter got to be pretty good buddies), so we're rooting for them, but I expect a tough game. The Titans have been playing great football the last few weeks.

(I was hoping the Vikings would win this weekend, as I really liked the idea of a Vikings-Packers NFC championship game).

Rumor is, Drudge Report has been sold to some Never-Trump Communist.

Christy, While I seldom find 'feminine' beauty in a man attractive, I agree that Mahomes has an unusual beauty--the kind that often attracts me to Japanese men, as well.

And I agree: Go Tigers!

And I don't happen to find Rodgers attractive. Bring back Brett Favre. ;-)

I don't think Matt Drudge is still alive; his reclusiveness was his undoing.
I was hoping KC would lose, but did not at all feel comfortable when they were only down by 24. At that point, Mahomes had not really had a bad play; it was everyone else on his team imploding. I don't think KC loses unless Mahomes is having a bad day. When KC lost to the Titans, Mahomes was still semi-injured. Still routing for the Titans but do not want to see Mahomes hurt.

It's the State Farm connection.

That's okay. He plays for the other team.

"Chiefs Truimph"

Let's hope Trump Truimphs in November.

That would be an Eminent Truimph.

Lamar is still a very inexperienced quarterback. He is not a natural thrower and his side throws are terrible. John Harbaugh and his staff did a great job maximizing his strengths this season and minimizing his weaknesses.

However, when you are a force in the NFL, coaches spend a lot of time figuring out how to limit your strengths and expose your weaknesses. Vrabel learned from his former boss how to do that.

Every NFL coach will copy Vrabel's game plan against the Ravens until they adjust. Lamar will have to improve his side throws and (as every young QB) learn to read defenses better.

As a Bears fan, I would rather have Lamar than Mitchell, but we would also have to trade Nagy for Harbaugh. The idiot McCaskey family would never go for that.

Sorry for going OT, but that's kinda interesting. Similar to when the CIA took over reclusive Howard Hughes's operations.

Not saying the CIA has taken over Drudge, (too conspiratorial) but whoever has allegedly taken over Drudge would have some high-priced journalistic/political real estate to shape political policies, reactions and events.

Just sayin'.

Drudge is either being blackmailed or he is playing a long game, sort of like DeGaulle back in the day.

Lamar has the potential to be a great quarterback but he is an inexperienced human being. He is just a kid. Objectively speaking, it was very foolish of his coaches to let him run so often in the regular season. There has never ever ever been a successful playoff quarterback who ran that much. Sure Fran Tarkenton might be in the Canton Hall of Fame but you know what ---- i have got just as many Super Bowl rings as Fran or Lamar, and I did not have to get knocked down a few thousand times like a chump to reach that number.

stephen cooper said...

in case you do not know much about deGaulle, he was sort of a wimp for a long time before he broke out and became the deGaulle the Frenchmen loved so much.

I guess you haven't watched Russell Wilson much.

stephen cooper said...

actually I have.

does it make you happy to pretend you are better than other people?

Do you really think you have any idea about how the Seahawks won that year --- here is a hint ---

it was not because their quarterback ran a lot.

Now shut the fuck up.
