Ten years is one of the most important milestones of any marriage. While certain neighborhoods of the internet are wholly pernicious, it can be remarkable what good things can be found. Congratulations to the two of you, from a complete stranger.
Funny story. One of my sisters broke up with her college boyfriend. My mom told my sister, “That he was not the one.” They’ve been married for over 30 years now.
Don't let them say your hair's too long 'Cause I don't care, with you I can't go wrong Then put your little hand in mine There ain't no hill or mountain we can't climb
Congratulations on making your life work. That's an impressive achievement.....I read a lot of bios and memoirs. Most lives, even the most outwardly successful ones, really suck. Useful career, happy marriage, comfortable retirement. Just one of those things is generally enough to supply a modicum of happiness. I wonder if they're intensifiers if taken together. Myself, I wouldn't know.
But, when I hear the name "Bellyache Ridge", I don't think of marital vows & nail polish matching the flowers, I think of the US Army taking some ridge in Korea under withering fire from the Chi-Coms.
Your way sounds like more fun & involving a little less violence.
In “Frankenstein in Love” (soon to be a major motion picture), I have Franz Frankenstein marrying Margaret Saville. They exchange vows with just the two of them. Not like they could go into town and get married in a church anyway. I borrowed this idea from Althouse and Meade.
Yea, congratulation guys! I was here to see it all happen. A real love story. Honestly though Ann, how long has Meade been buried under the house? It's the little things that make love strong. My lady makes the best ice tea - really cold and really sweet just like I like it. I don't know how she does it, but she can leave it in the freezer all night, and it doesn't freeze. Cold and sweet, mmmmm!
I can't think of a better way for people to get married: simple ceremony in a nice setting...with no guests! Best Wedding Ever is the one I'm not invited to.
The average wedding today costs over $30k. And I’m told the Catholic Church preparation is six months. Insane. Great way to discourage people from marrying.
I have a vague memory of the original post, but I wasn't an everyday visitor at the time, nor was I a commenter at the time, but those 10 years passed really fast.
10 years is a wonderful milestone. Congratulations! We look forward to many more to come-photos of car trips, museums, night life, biking, and hiking. You two have a wonderful salon here, and we appreciate the intelligence, humor, and a bit of snark you bring to it.
I waa here 10 years ago and was certain I gave my best wishes at the time, but sadly. . . .my name isn't there so I failed. Maybe it was a different post.
I'll add my comment to the chorus of congratulations. It's been a good 10 years!
My husband and I celebrated our 10th anniversary this week as well. We took our four kids (8, 6, 4, and 2) to a picnic, to the playground, and to the pool to celebrate our "family birthday". And then next week we're leaving the kids in the loving and competent care of their grandparents to have a week to ourselves in a nearby city.
It'll be close enough that we can drive back if there's an emergency, but far enough away that only a real EMERGENCY will bring us back. We're really looking forward to a break from diapers, bedtime negotiation, sibling arguments and general complaining. We're planning on doing some fun things, but even if we do nothing but feed only ourselves for a week it'll be worth it to me.
Beautiful photos of your wedding site, too. Here's to many more years!
I love that same thing about Federalism, that states can experiment for all of us.
Wish we'd see Oregon doing more of their old free-thinking innovation, like "right turn on red", but this state is so mired in the dreariest of big Union/Democrat machine stasis, they can't rise out of their rut. sad.
. . . oh wait! we were talking about your anniversary! who cares about dumb oregon on a day like this?
Congratulations Althouse. Being a reader since year one I would like to say that having Meade around has added to my enjoyment of your posts. Having someone to bounce ideas off of has obviously been good for you. Congratulations to you both.
I was here when it all began and seems like yesterday. Have to confess, I wasn’t optimistic but I was wrong, again. Our own 50th comes up in a few weeks and it too will be in the mountains but not Colorado; western NC with Fall color.
Also the comments: From SteveR: "I'm sure he has no tolerance for politics as usual, so it could be quite enertaining or quite ugly, perhaps both. I'd like to see him run for senator, maybe he could get Hillary to answer a question."
Congratulations from another long time lurker/rare poster. Looking forward to many more years of following your adventures along side the interesting topics you discuss. Thanks for the work and time you devote to this blog.
I saw that baseball produced a second combined no-hitter on the season. This right here shows you that the game has lost a good part of its soul. Even a decade ago, you couldn't have removed a pitcher throwing a no-hitter unless he had an injury.
Channeling Groucho Marx (on private clubs), "I wouldn't marry a woman who would have me as a husband". But I did anyway -- after my heart went into tachycardia back in 1991 the first time I heard her speak. Never happened before or after. Now I only get a warm feeling in my chest when I think about her.

Happy Anniversary! Happy Anniversary!
(This is my go to gift for my anniversary. Amazingly it works every time. Better than flowers I'm told...)
Congratulations. Glad it worked out even though you married on a Monday :)

Congratulations. We share a date. 23 today for us.
Congratulations!!! I immediately guessed it from the title alone. Do I get a cookie? I'm a little hungry right now.
Althouse and Meade, sitting on a mountain, k-i-s-s-i-n-g. Congratulations.
Congratulations Ann and Meade.
My wife and I have been married 32 years. Our last anniversary we were, like, meh.
Congratulations!
I can't think of a better way for people to get married: simple ceremony in a nice setting...with no guests! Best Wedding Ever is the one I'm not invited to.
Congrats on 10 years!
Happy Anniversary, and thanks to both of you staying at this blogging and support thing!
And you did it all by yourselves! Congratulations, Ann and Meade!
I find it hard to believe it's been ten years, it feels more like six months to me. The older one gets, the faster the time seems to go.
Thanks very much for sharing, and congratulations. Nice to find some happy news on the internet.

So, when one is grousing about something, do either of you say, "Quit your bellyaching!"

Happy anniversary to you both!

Best wishes for many years of health and happiness.
happy anniversary,
Happy Anniversary -- a perfect match
Congratulations!
2009 was a year of health crises and deaths in my family. It was a very hard year.
I remember your marriage. It was a bright spot for me. Thanks for the encouragement just by sharing your lives.
I send my husband this song every year on out anniversary.
Congratulations. I think you’ve found your own rainbow.
Congratulations for filling out the form 10 years ago and making an honest man out of Meade.
On Bellyache Ridge you either get married or throw up.
Happy Anniversary!
Going through the archives, I spotted this:

Trump as governor was a weird concept in December 2005.
Congratulations, and happy anniversary!

What? Meant ❤️😊
I started commenting shortly before the betrothal. I've been a pain-in-the-ass for at least 10 years.
Oh, by the way, make sure you take advantage of the Althouse portal.

Sweet Jesus! Lazlo feeds on these indiscretions. Sorry.
Excellent milestone, here's to many more!

Wow Birkel, I followed the links on that post. Wow.
Also the comments: From SteveR: "I'm sure he has no tolerance for politics as usual, so it could be quite enertaining or quite ugly, perhaps both. I'd like to see him run for senator, maybe he could get Hillary to answer a question."
People had him figured out in 2005. Amazing.
Meade liked the blog so much, he married the hostess!
Congrats to you, both!
Congrats Meadehouse!
Happy anniversary from a long-time lurker

Happy anniversary to you both!
Aw, this makes me happy. Hooray for love!

Congrats!
I read some messages.under those posts. Who doesn’t miss Sir Archy, now departed this life 270 years and more?
Mazel tov! Sorry I wasn't timely, but the blog has been boring of late and I check it less regularly. Many happy returns of the day!
"Life is not worth living unless it is lived for others" (Saint Theresa said that, in Albanian, I guess ....))
Always nice to see people when they have a reason to be happy
Congrats and God bless you and everyone you love in the past and now and in the future
I was thinking of what you wrote - the other day - about that 'other' festival and the womans face on the poster - Jefferson Airplane - a smile, a smirk that meant so much to me - I'm thinking of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkBXwZIcgpk&feature=share - to grow older, to grow old seems absurd. She so diffident, awkward and, then, she looks 'down' - but does she? She looking to someone!
Is she 'diffident'? No. Every time I look at that 'video' I see something different. Go ask Alice.
