From "The Bonfire of the Democrats" by Rich Lowry (the National Review editor) writing at Politico. Go to the link for Lowry's details on the vulnerability of Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Tulsi Gabbard, and Kamala Harris.
The Democrats have created a weapon that will be used repeatedly against anyone that rises within their ranks, and they didn't even keep Brett Kavanaugh off the Court. What a disaster!
It's the ultimate in Alinsky's rule #4 — "Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules." Looking for a place for the precise text of the rule, I happened upon "Who is Saul Alinsky, and why does the right hate him so much?" That's from July 2016. Hate?!
By the way... Ridicule is man's most potent weapon (Rule #5).
ADDED: The Editorial Board of The Washington Post, last night, dug in, "Ralph Northam must resign." But what about Fairfax and Herring? The allegations against Fairfax and Herring are not "relevant" to the question whether Northam can continue as an "effective governor."
It’s reasonable to guess that other revelations elsewhere, about other public figures with their own histories or photos of offensive, insensitive or racist conduct, may surface in coming days. Each should be judged on its own set of circumstances. In the case of Mr. Northam, the circumstances are decisive; what’s done cannot be undone. He must go.Judge each person as an individual. Good idea. But you're also going to have to treat like cases alike. So if you don't want to throw out everyone who did nothing worse that darken his face to go to a costume party in the guise of a pop star he loved, then you have to stop yourself as you make that individual judgment against Northam, or you're setting up all the future cases to hinge on the argument that what this individual did was at least as bad as what Northam did. And I think the real reason the WaPo editors are against Northam is not that they want the wearing of a Michael Jackson costume to deserve the new political death penalty. It's that so many prominent Democrats put their reputations on the line demanding that Northam resign, and the editors don't want to leave them exposed.
But they are all exposed.

I blame Harvey Weinstein.
It's possible the bonfire will burn itself out before 2020--or 2024.

1. Blackface is a medium not a message. There's nothing wrong with it.
2. If it's not reported at the time, it didn't happen. Take your own accusations seriously before you ask anyone else to.
The statute of limitations isn't to give women time to change their minds. It's about new evidence.
It's nice that my alma mater Oberlin has become a running joke. It's not affecting the mood on campus however. They're renaming buildings after more suitable persons of oppression.
Everyone is spewing their wokeness but no heads are rolling.
Politcal tickle fight.
I had never heard of this Alinsky guy before, but I was hoping there would be more in this article about his ties to Satanism.
And then there's Gucci: Blackface Sweater
The Spanish Inquisition tortured converts to the Catholic faith that were accused of still having a secret Jewish Faith. The real test was whether the targeted victims had anything that worth being stolen by the Catholic Church. Those guys perfected the Progressive Dems' auto-de-fe press attacks.
I blame Trump.
Be careful what you ask for.
These tools were only meant to be used on republicans. This is a stage production of Outrage!
A blackface minstrel and a KKK appearing together at a costume party is obviously intended to be some sort of sarcasm. What was going on 30-40 years ago that brought up that idea?
Kind of like when there was a move on to save the planet by outlawing colored toilet paper, etc., and Sheryl Crow got sarcastic and said on camera that perhaps we should only use one sheet of toilet paper at a time. The media went berserk and landed all over her, pretending to take her seriously.
Never get get sarcastic with the media!
They will take an awful revenge on anyone suspected of not taking them seriously.
Joe Neguse(D) - Boulder fascist Democratic - (guy who is gerrymandered in to replace Polis - D money grubber) he's trying to find a thread of nothing to build a case to impeach Kavanaugh.
I would guess this kind of hypocrisy might affect turn out...
I'm entertained by the spectacle of the great anti-bigotry crusade self-immolating.
Heap Big Injun Fauxcahontas still seems intent on announcing her presidential candidacy.
When are you going to dump your Marxist feminist anti-bigotry crusade, Althouse? Use your intellect to good advantage. Lead the way. Give up your own bitch. Admit that you never had a grievance, that your feminist bitch was and is all bullshit.
I'm happy and content. No complaints. Gay men tried to drag me into men's rights politics. I said no. We don't need any more of that shit.
Good riddance to the anti-bigotry crusade.
Costume party from the 1980s
The fascists want this guy out so they can continue use their fascist rules on their enemies.
Crow got sarcastic and said on camera that perhaps we should only use one sheet of toilet paper at a time. The media went berserk and landed all over her, pretending to take her seriously.
I'd assumed it was serious, for women's pee. It's just a matter of cleaning up the effects of surface tension. Some study of volume vs capacity of a single sheet is needed.
So y’all are liking Rich Lowry again?
I was “Rich Lowry” when Rich Lowry wasn’t cool.

One can only imagine the extraordinary grief and devastation this democrat implosion in VA is causing LLR Chuck. I wish Chuck well in his upcomibg accelerated therapy sessions.
I understand that one possible therapy regime is total immersion in far left media-cocoon narratives and smears against republicans, so I know he will enjoy that greatly.
I wouldnt be surprised to see him pop in today to share some of his latest smear revelations: smear-velations!
The Democrats have created a weapon that will be used repeatedly against anyone that rises within their ranks, and they didn't even keep Brett Kavanaugh off the Court. What a disaster!
One thing that has always puzzled me about the American Left is why they don't seem to understand that precedents are a double edged sword. This is especially baffling when you think about how many of them have been to law school.
Alinsky's model is very much like that of Satan [Lucifer]. C.S. Lewis's The Screwtape Letters is a good read.
Doesn't intent enter into this at all? Dressing up as Michael Jackson because you like Michael Jackson shouldn't be a career ender. Suppose an accomplished white actor wanted to do a stage show as a tribute to Malcolm X or Martin Luther King. What would be the justification for keeping him from doing that?
Well, someone needs to take the bullet for the blackface fiasco, otherwise we'll be distracted
away from advancing the extreme left's Green New Deal. It's imperative we return to the Stone Age to stop Climate Change, you know. Maybe if me make post-natal abortion legal until age 18, and for anyone earning Social Security, we can avert the catastrophe.
Schultz was wise to maneuver his campaign away from the Democratic primaries and stay far removed from that clown car cluster-fuck circus maximus and auto da fé.
WaPo is a joke.
What's done is done!
Really, Monty Python's "Spanish Inquisition" skit is not history. Please stop blaring your ignorance.
"It is odd, then, that the Spanish Inquisition is so often today described as one of the Catholic Church’s great sins. The Catholic Church as an institution had almost nothing to do with it."
https://www.crisismagazine.com/2011/the-truth-about-the-spanish-inquisition
One Democrat is smiling, and that would be Crooked Hillary. Soon, very soon, she'll announce: "Hold my Bill, and watch this."
umpletweezer: "Doesn't intent enter into this at all?"
Not in the slightest.
What the left and their LLR lap-poodles like Chuck want are tools with which to destroy anyone who stands in the way of the leftist transformation of the nation.
Northam will be thrown over at some point since the dems will have to at least to pretend to be "principled", similar to how the LLR cucks pretend to be "principled" as they act as an attack wing for the far left.
Seriously, josh? The RCC had 'almost nothing' to do with the Inquisition?
What a day, what a day
For an auto-da-fe!
What a sunny summer sky!
What a day, what a day
For an auto-da-fe!
It's a lovely day for drinking
And for watching people fry!
Hurry, hurry, hurry,
Watch'em die!
Hurry, hurry, hurry,
Hang 'em high!

Next they'll be coming for white people who've worn a sombrero while eating a taco bowl at a La Raza party or pushed up the corners of their eyes to celebrate Chinese New Year.
I think the whole thing is a joke, much as I think the Democrats going after Kavenaugh was a joke. They started the joke, now they are stuck with it. I hope they enjoy what they have started.

Black face at a Costume party circa 1722 = burn the witch
Alleged and credible forced sexual encounter by Fairfax = hello? Hello? Bueller? Bill?
One Democrat is smiling, and that would be Crooked Hillary.
My assumption is that the Texas Bar Entrance form from Warren is oppo research from Team Clinton.
It's time for Democrats to "SHUT UP and STEP UP" as Hawaii Senator Mazie Hirono says!!
So, what about it Althouse?
How about if we all ditch our bitch?
Life in the U.S. nowadays is grand. We're so wealthy everybody is killing themselves with overeating. Most adults have asses so big they block out the sun.
Despite all the nattering online, life is really quite peaceful and tranquil.
How about ditching the bitching?
You don't need anything. Neither do I. I have so many beautiful musical instruments that I don't even have enough time to play them all. I suspect that you suffer a similar problem in an area of interest to you.
All this bitching is really a form of entertainment, a relief from boredom. The answer is to let it all go.
The left is heading towards an inquisition and most of the candidates won’t survive the rack. I think the democrats will go with Klobochar as she seems mild yet tough, probably few hidden skeletons. She’s Minnesota Nice which I’m surprised people think is a compliment. It means two faced. Minnesotans are famous for being amiable and then stabbing you in the back. The Coen Bros perfectly captured the quality in Fargo. She’s Hillary by way of Mondale.
To me, the problem is you're not allowed to change.
Shhhh, don't anyone tell the Democrats. We'll keep it as a secret until today's Democrats find out for themselves, but the KKK was born, bred, and inbred, as a Democrat Party apparatus.
"Who wrote the Black Codes and the Jim Crow laws? Democrats. Who fought against the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments? Democrats. Who consistently opposed anti-lynching legislation? Democrats. Who endorsed Anglo-Saxon destiny and white racial purity? Democrats. Who came up with the poll taxes, literacy tests, residency requirements, and wholesale disfranchisement of the poor? Democrats, And which party did the Solid White South vote for starting from Reconstruction all the way up to the 1960s? Democrats, Democrats, Democrats."

Fairfax logic regarding oral rape- she opened her mouth to say 'No', and since her mouth was open, I took that to mean consent..
Megyn Kelly demonstrated that this is the way these institutions get rid of someone inconvenient. Her sin? Suggesting it was all right to darken your skintone while impersonating a specific individual in costume when she was growing up. Her real sin? Making too much money from NBC (and maybe coming from Fox News).
So if you don't want to throw out everyone who did nothing worse that darken his face to go to a costume party in the guise of a pop star he loved, then you have to stop yourself as you make that individual judgment against Northam,
So let me get this straight...we have to ban the public display of pictures of coal miners and ban the showing of Mary Poppins because someone might get offended because of their ignorance, but when a Democratic governor who thinks it's OK to allow survivors of abortion to die of neglect intentionally wears Black face we have to get nuanced.
Althouse said... In other words...
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. - Matthew 7:5
Althouse is in unique position to notice that kind of eye-popping hypocrisy right now.
Why would anyone be surprised the Dems solve this problem by applying a double standard? Progressive-ism itself is built on the idea of a double standard.
Chuck—I have no problems with you. You aren’t craven like Rich Lowry, and you don’t want me to give you money for your political opinions. Reasonable people can see things differently.
MAGA.
I work out at the YMCA in blue collar Kingston, NY.
I play basketball with black guys who do manual labor. We laugh and joke in the locker room. We sit in the hot tub, never talk politics, and bullshit with one another. We talk about our medical problems, since we're mostly old farts.
Nobody wants to fight it out over race. Everybody's just having a good time.
Blacks and whites in podunk Kingston are dating and screwing with no ideological motive. They just want to get laid.
This great struggle online and in the political arena is a delusion. There is no great struggle going on. Racism is not an issue in our daily lives.
Junk the whole pile of shit. Quit trying to stir up a war to relieve your boredom.
"we have to ban the public display of pictures of coal miners and ban the showing of Mary Poppins because someone might get offended because of their ignorance ... "
I don't believe most people would agree with this. Those articles were both written by delusional individuals — and have been largely dismissed and ridiculed by most of the public.
I think whether or not Northam should resign should be up to him, and I would say the more troubling aspect of his recent political life is the abortion issue.
"you're also going to have to treat like cases alike."
Huh? These are progs we are talking about. They treat cases as required by party interests.
"you're setting up all the future cases to hinge on the argument that what this individual did was at least as bad as what Northam did"
There you go again, with your foolish consistency. These are progs we are talking about. Arguments are tools, logic is for chumps.
"But they are all exposed."
Ah, no. Monsignor Al Sharpton, appearing on MSLSD this morning, said not so fast. He went on to say the Virginia governor and AG admitted their guilt, whereas the Lt. Governor denied the allegations against him.
PS: The aforementioned Most High also said this morning he is heading to Virginia. The circus continues.

Perhaps, but Althouse does. At least as pertains to coal miners and the same reasoning or feelz would apply to Mary Poppins.
Joy Behar must go.
How long until we are told that White people going to tanning salons is racist?
No takers, huh?
Lowry and NR can still suck it. I find it interesting he had to write this for Politico so it would reach a wider audience than his usual LLR fanboys.
Suppose an accomplished white actor wanted to do a stage show as a tribute to Malcolm X or Martin Luther King. What would be the justification for keeping him from doing that?
He's taking away work from Black actors.
The Senators hold no sway over Virginia.
Booker has beclowned himself the most with refusing to address the sexual accusation against Lt. Gov Fairfax.
All The Senators who called for Northam to resign over Blackface need to address Fairfax. If Northam resigns the Fairfax becomes governor.
Fairfax has been accused of a serious crime. The Senators all voted against Kavanaugh and believed his accuser about an alleged incident from when Kavanaugh was allegedly 17.
Like Kavanaugh, Fairfax accuser is a college professor. She waited 13 years before telling anyone while Ford waited 30 years.
The Senators are scurrying.
I think the Clintons are behind this. At least Bill Clinton is. These were professional moves executed perfectly.
Maybe Howard Schultz is behind all this. If that’s the case, then we’ll played.
Only Northam has been thrown overboard by the party, with Fairfax and Herring getting passes so far because Democrats don’t want to nuke the entirety of a state executive branch they control.
The three cases are different. Fairfax has denied the allegations and there haven't been any other women coming forward with similar claims. If there are further claims that have some credibility, he'll be finished.
Herring did his blackface in undergrad school and can be seen as a misguided homage to a rapper that he liked and wanted to emulate.
Northam problems are more serious. Foremost is the conflicting information he gave, first taking responsibility for the photo on his yearbook page and then later denying it was him. There's also a difference a photo of a guy in blackface standing next to someone in a KKK uniform and doing blackface in a talent show. As mentioned, the later can be viewed as a misguided homage to an entertainer you admire while the former has no reasonable explanation. If there were exculpatory context, he should have provided it.
He also comes across as a complete doofus. I watched the second press conference. When a reporter asked if he could still do the moonwalk, he started looking around for space to do it. He had to be stopped by his wife who said it's not appropriate.
Like most politicians he's more concerned with his career and image than doing what's best for the public. He stated as much by saying if he resigned now people would think he's a racist. That's not a reason to stay. A valid reason to stay would be that he still thinks he can do a good job, which it is obvious he can't.
I'd suggest a sexual abuse charge is WAY worse than a bad costume from the 1980s.
A bit off topic maybe but I am currently reading "The Brass Check" by Upton Sinclair. Free at Amazon.
According the Wikipedia, Upton Sinclair does to the newspaper industry what he did to the meat packing industry with "The Jungle". Wikipedia also says that the book resulted in the adoption of a code of ethics for the newspaper industry and reporters.
The book could have been written in 2019 instead of 1919. Nothing has changed.
Lots of talk about fighting for "Social Justice" since Sinclair pretty explicitly considered himself a social justice warrior. Sadly, he doesn't use warrior though he does talk repeatedly about "fighting" for "social justice" as a socialist.
His biggest complaint is fake news, and he has lots of stories about fake news stories that he figured in. He got a lot of press in his day as a famous author and famous socialist.
The book takes rather a "poor me" attitude "Nobody would publish my poetry for the silly reason that nobody would buy it" (quote approximate), not being able to get newspapers to publish articles, newspapers being in thrall to advertiser instead of publishing people who could improve the world. (like himself)He is also rather full of himself.
But it is still a fun read. Sinclair is a pretty good writer.
He was the author of the novel Oil, also, for those who have seen the movie version There will be Blood. Both book and movie are pretty good.
John Henry
what’s done cannot be undone.
That's the absence of an argument.
You'd think we'd be able to discern a person in costume for entertainment purposes with no ill intent from mocking and belittling. But no.
Why?
As Will Chamberlain puts it- "because social justice theology has no redemption doctrine."
Herring did his blackface in undergrad school and can be seen as a misguided homage to a rapper that he liked and wanted to emulate.
In 1980? I don't think so. This story doesn't pass the smell test. There were few "rappers" in 1980, and though Kurtis Blow put out his debut album that year, were white racists like Herring really early adopters and aficionados? It sounds a little too convenient, not too different from Northam choosing MJ as his model in 1984 when by that time Jackson was as white as Elvis.
But Trump...
So playing KKK dress-up is worse than jamming an unwilling woman's mouth onto your throbbing genital?
No, off course not. But the former has been proved and the later is just an allegation.

Or maybe it was actually "Be careful how you act, you stupid girl, you might just get bit in the ass when it comes back to haunt you."
Jeepers. Popcorn for Republicans. Democrats: what to do?
"We need to work a good set of guidelines. It doesn't matter what rules we applied in the past year, we got it wrong in the heat of the moment. Some suggestions for how to do it right, going forward:
1) If you wore blackface in the past, or made a racist joke, that was wrong. But you probably didn't really know it was wrong or were too young or stupid or inexperienced to know better. Don't apologize. Acknowledge it, say, Boy was I dumb back then, never doing that again, and move on.
2) If you sexually assaulted someone, you deserve what you get. You have a right to demand that the case against you be made. If the sexual assault was relatively trivial, see 1).
3) If you angrily accused others of the same thing you yourself did, you are subject to whichever penalties you wanted to impose on others. That's not something from the distant past, that's on you now."
It's the ultimate in Alinsky's rule #4 — "Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules."
Of course, none of the Left's adversaries 'made them' live up to their own rules. We never do. This is just a matter of their Frankenstein's monsters running amok in their castle.
In hindsight, electing a guy with baggage like Trump might be the torches needed for the GOP to keep these monsters at bay. He showed how to survive the rampage.
Do Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon still have shows?
Just wondering, you know, about standards for appearing in blackface and what it's supposed to do to someone's career...
When do we get to ruin the lives of men who dress as women?
This story doesn't pass the smell test. It sounds a little too convenient, not too different from Northam choosing MJ as his model in 1984 when by that time Jackson was as white as Elvis
That could be so, I've never been into rap music and don't know the chronology. He also could have done it to mock rather than to admire.
And of course, in 1984 Northam didn't need to put on blackface to do MJ.
This whole blackface thing baffles me. I grew up in NY in the 70's and I can't remember anyone dressing up in blackface as a gag or at Halloween. Must be a southern thing.
The Gucci thing made me laugh out loud. Especially since the mob isn’t wrong. It does immediately evoke the minstrel show. So how clueless were the designers and marketers of this thing? I doubt they were standard-issue Deplorables so how did the glaringly obvious inappropriateness of this rag escape their notice? Despite the best efforts of the mob even those down for competitive wokeness still don’t see everything through a filter of racial outrage. History teaches us that until you have the power to stand people against the wall in large numbers, you’ll never totally indoctrinate them. And even then human nature is always pushing back.
The problem with saying these black face episodes happened a long time ago is that Dems have attacked the idea that America has made progress in race relations.
All three won't resign because it would mean a Republican governor. Hard to see which one survives, though.
This comment is not in keeping with who I am today.
This whole blackface thing baffles me. I grew up in NY in the 70's and I can't remember anyone dressing up in blackface as a gag or at Halloween. Must be a southern thing.
Same here. Don't know anyone who DID dress "up" in blackface. And I've heard many southerners say it was just understood to not be cool, and they claimed it was a "northern curiosity about Blacks" that drove Yankees like the Vaudevillians to do blackface. It just wasn't done down south.
The #meetoo witch-hunt is just a phase. Some people will get unjustly fucked over. Life is not fair and this too will end. Get over it. Girls and minorities have been fucked over since like forever. Payback is a MoFo, but at the end of the day, they still need the white male patriarchy to keep the lights on.
" So how clueless were the designers and marketers of this thing?"
They are European most likely which doesn't have the same history of minstrel shows.
Without the lips, it would be fine.
And of course, in 1984 Northam didn't need to put on blackface to do MJ.
He was still dark-skinned then.
were white racists like Herring...
Presumes the conclusion, I see.
Maybe Herring was a huge fan of white nerd band They Might be Giants who threw a shout-out to Kurtis Blow in their 1988 song Where Your Eyes Don't Go
I have a hard time understanding how someone could hate blacks so much they paint their face to look like them.
It's easy to see how someone could hate blacks so much they dress up as the Klan.
Why no effort to identify the person dressed up as the Klan in the photo? Why is only the blackface getting all the outrage?
The Senators are already on record rejecting AmExPat’s standard.
One accusation is enough. It’s from a college professor so that makes it a @credibke accusation” per The Senators. She didn’t tell anyone about it for 13 years, which is 17 years earlier than Ford, so it’s “credible.”
Unlike Ford, Dr. Tyson is a “proud member” of the same political party as the person she has accused.
Also, Fairfax admits to a sexual encounter with her.
Fairfax is also accused of referring to Dr. Tyson as a “bitch” a few days ago. This, by The Senators standards, is irrefutable evidence of misogyny (except when Schumer calls a flight attendant a bitch).
There is now way out for The Senators.
They must all drop out of the Dem primary and resign their senate seats in disgrace. They have failed.
Maybe the larger issue with Northam is his admission/retraction/deflection paired with a memory so bad he needs his wife to tell him who he was emulating.
It couldn't be that he's a lightning rod for late term abortion.
I still think all could be forgiven if he truly still has the moves.
I mean, a guv who moonwalks into a press conference? "That's sick"
"I am afraid you are mistaking me for someone who has an interest in fair treatment of Donald Trump. I'm not your guy. I am interested in smearing him, hurting him and prejudicing people against him."
Rich Lowry
Hmmm
As Mel Brooks reminds us, an auto-da-fé is "what you oughtn't to do, but you do anyway!"
"double-edged sword"
You can also stab with it.
Being double-edged though doesn't make it turn against you. It just raises scoring possibilities, say an upwards cut under the hand grip of your opponent.
In sabre tradionally the outer third on the upper side is taken as useful for scoring.
Where your eyes don't go a filthy scarecrow waves its broomstick arms
And does a parody of each unconscious thing you do
When you turn around to look it's gone behind you
On its face it's wearing your confused expression
Where your eyes don't go
Sounds like our current social media world, right?
Justice Kavanaugh must be loving this. Dems are such lying hypocrites.
He might be laughing till he boofs.
What's so offensive about blackface?
I've seen old movies that had it, but I never thought it was particularly funny, or otherwise entertaining. I was never impressed by Asa Yoelson's acting, dancing, or singing. There were plenty of other show biz folks who did it, including Blacks, but I never understood the appeal.
Blackface isn't something I ever had the urge to try myself, but what harm does it do, other than to the dignity of the wearer? Who is harmed, and how? I'd like an honest answer, preferably from a black person, about how exactly he is hurt by blackface. I'll wait as long as it takes.
Still, with Dems getting a taste of their own medicine the schadenfreude is irresistible.
Gucci doesn't need to drop the sweater, just re-name it the Virginia Turtle-Neck.
Maybe the larger issue with Northam is his admission/retraction/deflection paired with a memory so bad he needs his wife to tell him who he was emulating.
I'm pretty sure Northam would have actually tried to moonwalk in that press conference if his much smarter wife had not stopped him and said out loud "inappropriate circumstances." Jesus what a doofus! I wish she'd stayed at home Saturday so we could see the Gov bust a move.
Yosemite Sam is next.
Shouting Thomas makes a good point. Sports has done more to improve race relations than anything in America. (Music and food are next.) The white students at Nebraska and Creighton have great relationships with their football and basketball teammates. The mostly white student body cheers on the school's team; regardless of its racial composition.
The elephant in the room is that Florida governor DeSantis fired his Secretary of State either same day or the next after it came out that said Secretary of State had one of these "Blackface" episodes lurking in his past. To much praise from the likes of the NAACP and ACLU, I might add.
Why won't Democrats do the same? Do they embrace racism that much?
And Northam doesn't just have the one picture, oh no. He had the kerfuffle where his campaign posters left off Fairfax, who is black. And he's on video as refusing to shake a black opponent's hand after a debate or something.
Racism runs deep, apparently, within his core.
As for the AG.... he'd likely get a pass for his little blackface bit, but for the minor fact he called for Northam to step down over Northam's..... before his came out. Whoops.
--Vance
Remember when people thought that the Immolation Clause was going to bring down Trump?
In 1983 I wouldn't think that blackface was racist unless it was intended to mock blacks in general. Halloween costumes both deride and honor depending. My daughter once went as Freddy Mercury, it was intended to honor his memory. People who dressed as Nixon, for example, not so much.
What this is about is taking a political weapon, ridicule, off the table when used against any black person. Trump can be an orangutan, Bush a chimpanzee, but Obama must remain sacred. Because of our decidedly racist history, we can't even point out that he was non too bright.
We have learned to love Alinsky, and this fight is on his battlefield as he defined it. Democrats thought they owned him is all.
What goes around... comes around.
Sooner or later. Go look at the French Revolution.
A guy could burn his bridges forever by wearing this:
Ski Mask
What if Northam just holds onto his job? The outrage against him has to die down sometime.
I haven’t seen anyone in the “press” pose this question.
Maybe Herring was a huge fan of white nerd band They Might be Giants who threw a shout-out to Kurtis Blow in their 1988 song Where Your Eyes Don't Go
OK, so he time-traveled AND wore blackface. How interesting. Yes he's a racist. Wearing the highly offensive blackface has been wrong in polite society since the 1960s, and anyone, especially any WHITE man in 1980 knew that the act would be offensive to black people and just didn't care that they were being racist. You should know Howard. Your side claims Trump is racist because his father signed a consent decree in the 1970s, and because he said there were "some good people on both sides" in Charlottesville. So yeah, according to your side's metrics Northam is a flaming hair-on-fire KKK-verified racist for wearing blackface and for putting pictures of hooded Klansman on his page.
Live with it. Your side has always been on the wrong side of racial politics.
I was never impressed by Asa Yoelson's acting, dancing, or singing.
You're impressed enough with Al Jolson to recite his birth name. (Or maybe you're just being a "look how smart I am!" jerk.)
There were few "rappers" in 1980, and though Kurtis Blow put out his debut album that year, were white racists like Herring really early adopters and aficionados?
Sugar Hill Gang was all over Campuses in 1979/1980. Every white person could sing Rapper's Delight. And 'The Breaks' by Kurtis Blow came out shortly thereafter. ("And Ma Bell sent you a whoppin' bill with 18 phone calls to Brazil")
Rapture, by Blondie, was #1 in early 1981. ("Then you're in the man from Mars, you go out at night and eat up cars")
In 1983 I wouldn't think that blackface was racist unless it was intended to mock blacks in general.
Given todays environment it's still kind of amazing that a movie like Soul Man was made as recently as 1986.
Hold your horses, Mike, I'm being intentionally ridiculous. It's a ridiculous episode and ridicule seems appropriate.
As for the "were white racists" callout that's a point of rhetoric. Calm down, hombre.
There was time when the standards of being able to perform the duties of an office only pertained directly to performing day to day duties of the office. Of course, in comparing candidates, other items come into play, such as character. It is reasonable to argue that certain character traits speak to the ability to perform duties like "leading all people, not just those of a certain race". And so set the standard of accessing political officers prior to Kavanaugh.
With Kavanaugh, the standard became any behavior that one might even be accused of having, ever in their life, can disqualify a person from performing the duties of an office. Technically, that standard was pushed back Conservatives to "credibly accused" with a preference to push to an extreme right ideal of "innocent until proven guilty". Alas, the moderate progressives on the left want to use "believe the accuser" with a more extremist vein saying "believe the accuser from whenever the choose to make an accusation from any time in the past". So that's the standard being applied in Virginia.
In the case of the Governor, there is a bit more proof of guilt. For the Lt. Gov, even if the accuser is lying, his response to the accuser shows poor character. For the AG; he accused and then recused himself.
For Texans watching from afar; the popcorn is fattening. But it is hard to avoid this schadenfreude feast laid out before us. I would gladly give up the entire feast for a return to "innocent until proven guilty", but then I guess that labels me as a right wing extremist.
After the #MeToo we can’t have any publicly elected officials like JFK, Johnson, or Clinton. Man or woman, white, black, brown, or yellow they have to go.
This is why NBC just went full Levine/Acosta. Wait until they find out who Levine pimped those young girls too.
"You're impressed enough with Al Jolson to recite his birth name. (Or maybe you're just being a "look how smart I am!" jerk.)"
I'm just giving credit where due.
Hear Hear Leland. I agree 100% as one of the only Conservatives in New Jersey!!
Doesn't the same common sense that tells us sexual assault is way more heinous than blackface suggest that Northam staying in the Governor's mansion buys cover for both Fairfax and the AG to stay in office? This prisoners' dilemma will get resolved when all 3 (and the Democrat Party) realize their fates are linked. The fact that the next in succession is a Republican will focus Dem minds wonderfully.
"has been wrong in polite society since the 1960s, "
My mom went as Aunt Jemima one year when I was about 5. That would put it at around 1977. I don't think my mom is a racist. She probably just thought she'd go as a character and had to darken her face (I think it wasn't even makeup but like a burnt cork rubbed around on her face) to achieve the costume's full effect.
There's a bill of attainder quality to this. People are claiming to know all the nuances and circumstances of an inconsequential event from over thirty years ago. It's possible that Northam's costume was meant to make fun of the KKK. Who knows? The man has no record of overt racism. Why not give him the benefit of the doubt? That's what I'd say if he were a Republican, and I see no reason not to say it now......I note, however, that his comments about post natal abortions were exceedingly stupid and, coming from a pediatrician, genuinely horrendous. Also, as mike r. and others have pointed out, his transgression is not something that he would forgive in a Republican.
Interesting. The only one who seems inoculated against the Woke Virus is Trump.
In their hatred of Trump the Democrats and Anti-Trumpers set in motion the intersectional Rube Goldberg devices that then drop the bowling balls on their own heads.
Meanwhile, Trump's supporters accept who he is: they may not even like him, but they don't care about his lack of Woke Credentials, they just want someone who will not be cowed by the mob into being a supplicant of the elite.
It must be fascinating to be the only elected official who gets to be who he really is, rather than being simply the fearful negative space against all that you think will prevent you from being elected.
I am Laslo.
Laslo is spot on. Most politicians, D or R, are scum sucking weasels. Trump isn't a politician. He's just Trump, no matter the polls, events, or time of day.
What about Sir Laurence Olivier? Does he get a pass for his blackface roles?

Exactly. Because Global Warming, no one will ever need to wear a baklava ever again.
Northam also made the claim that he fairly recently got religion on this via conversation with a black staffer, I think...promising to not do it "again". So he kinda forfeited his "that was then" angle.
That Gucci sweater is hilarious.
So now wearing a black ski mask is racist? Klobuchar Is out.
Anyone from a cold place is out.
What about Eddie Murphy? Does he get a pass for playing in whiteface?

This is one of the key reasons that the NeverTrumpers despise Trump so much. The NeverTrumpers have spent decades lying to the republican base in order to maintain access to the lefty media/cultural elites to whom they bend the knee.
Trump has demonstrated conclusively how unnecessary that is for political success so the NeverTrumpers cashed in their "LLR" bona fides because what really matters to the NeverTrumpers and LLR's is that the democrats, whom they fear and defer, like them.
It's really all about getting that invite to the next lefty swanky cocktail party.
Mueller must be under intense pressure to reclaim the news cycle.
I am not down with this shit, even if it is currently directed at people who want to destroy what I love and believe in. We warned them that this would eventually backfire and turn on them, but that is little consolation over this cancer on our culture and politics. Reason has been completely replaced with feelings and automatic conditioned response to stimuli.
So nobody but a Black can now play a Black character in any situation? Can a light-skinned Black wear blackface to play a dark-skinned Black? Can an Asian, an Indian, or an Eskimo? People have different skin tones. Get over it. Just because somebody did it in a way designed to be offensive does not make every such use forever also offensive.
I don't really believe most Blacks are offended by this. Most Blacks are just as capable of finding humor, nuance, utility, and reasonableness in such a thing as any other people. I would not be offended if my characteristics were copied by someone without them, even to make fun of me or my kind. That's what freedom and tolerance costs us as mature reasoning people. Is wearing a fat suit unacceptable when a thin person wants to play a fat one? How about hair color, or accents? It's unworkable to have these these things be taboo, and I believe it's fake outrage. Of course some people can be outraged about anything, but should the weakest and most unreasonable among us make the rules? Is that the world we want - that drab, stilted, scared, and timid world?
The Democrat Northham called the Republican candidate a racist for opposing sanctuary cities.
So fuck him. I'm laughing at the whole spectacle.
The Black guy should go too. You got to hand to RINO Gillespe - he set a new record in Republican incompetence. $24 million spent on his campaign, and no one found the yearbook or the incident of sexual abuse.
Lack of "wokeness" is a favorable credential.
a return to "innocent until proven guilty"
That would invalidate Pro-Choice/selective-child, which operates on the quasi-legal premise (i.e. Twilight Amendment) that certain individuals are guilty and can be aborted as an ethical choice. It would also invalidate diversity, which judges/discriminates between individuals based on the "color of their skin."
Drago tries to prove that a party divided against inself can indeed stand!
I never wore blackface, but, at times in the past, I have made sexist and homophobic jokes. I can't recall the precise time they became offensive, but there's no doubt they can now be careeer ending. None of my passing remarks were recorded for posterity, but that's not true of a lot of well known comedians. A simple apology no longer suffices. Self immolation on the steps of the Lincoln Monument would go a long way towards restoring Kevin Hart's reputation. Anyway it's a first step in the healing process. Perhaps Northam could join him. Make a party out of it,
Is there any huge star of the 20th century more forgotten than Al Jolson?
Duranty has "Frosty", Crosby has "White Christmas", Jolson has a bunch of cameos in old cartoons that kids can't figure out now.
He neglected to mention Paleface wearing redface.
"The man has no record of overt racism. Why not give him the benefit of the doubt? That's what I'd say if he were a Republican, and I see no reason not to say it now"
I do. He does have a history of outrageous race-baiting, smearing Ed Gillespie with abandon.
"his transgression is not something that he would forgive in a Republican."
OK, so you answer your own question. Let's play fair as soon as progs play fair.
Being principled and opposing the "New Rules" is a waste of time. The MSM and the Democrats have established wearing black face or sexual harassment - no matter when or weakly supported - warrants the political death penalty for Republicans.
So, do we do we defend the Democrats & let them skate - while they destroy the Republicans over the same charges? The only way this will stop, is when enough Democrats and MSM favorites go down. Then they'll re-think it. Not before.
When is somebody gonna stand up and say "Fuck you, I did what I did as a joke, it was funny, and I'd don't regret it. If you have a problem with it, then don't do it, and if it's that important to you, don't vote for me. If you are a grown up, and like my ideas, then vote or me, but I am not beholden to you and your weakness."
In the course of my weary passage through life, I have reached a state of moral grandeur. From on high I preach to all of you that the sin of wearing a blackface costume thirty five years ago is not unforgivable.

Didn't Al Franken say that about the Boob grab?
We can't get past this crapfest until both sides have been hurt by it. OK, we are there now. Can we agree it's stupid, stop it, becuase it is, we know it, and it's untenable in a free society with any interest in art, openness, honesty or fairness. It will stifle everything with a blanket of fear and hatred.
"Didn't Al Franken say that about the Boob grab?"
He may have initially, but backtracked into submission, and had to leave his job. I also thought he was treated unfairly, and I can't stand the guy, and thought he stole an election.
It's funny until somebody gets their eye poked out.
Then it's still funny, just not around that person.
- usenet saying
I was in college around the same time as Northam and Herring, although not in the South, it was in the Northeast, and I don't remember black face being a thing at all. And grad school out West later on but still in the same general time frame, again nobody was dressing up in black face at parties or doing skits in black face. Maybe it was happening and I missed it but I don't think so.
I think this was a thing for Southern White Boys, especially ones in college, the so-called elites, the upper middle class types. To demean and ridicule. And definitely not intended to be celebratory and appreciative of Black culture regardless of how much the VA Governor (aka Coonman) wants us to believe he loved Michael Jackson and was just trying to honor him. Jackson's distinctive look as an entertainer at the time could have been easily imitated and recognized through clothing and wouldn't have required blackening one's skin.
So I'm curious: Do Howard, Henry, Inga and the rest of the gang think Northam and the other two should resign?
Let's be clear: If they were Republican, they would be forced out. No mercy, no quarter would be given. Everyone knows that.
So do the same rules apply to Democrats? I'd like to know! Howard, why shouldn't Northam go? Fairfax? Herring? If they were Republican, they would be forced out (as DeSantis did to his secretary of state in Florida not too long ago).
Based on Kavanaugh and "MeToo!", can anyone of our leftists explain why these three bozos should not be run out of town on a rail?
There's plenty of conservative reasons why we shouldn't tar and feather these men, and they are laid out quite well above by some posters. But the left has thrown out due process for accused people. So, Howard, et. al. .... should Northam resign? Fairfax? Herring? Please let us know what you think instead of some snark.

Wah-Wah Post:
Wear black face: Horrible!!! You must resign immediately!
Commit Sexual Assault: 'eh ... let's not be too hasty.
I'm trying to be consistent in my standards. With the Dems, it's a surprisingly difficult thing to do. Has any enterprising journalist looked up what Fairfax had to say about Kavanaugh or Clarence Thomas in the past? Such remarks would be useful in formulating my opinion as to whether he should stay in office........The charges against him are far more credible than those against Kavanaugh, but, still, there's a he said/she said quality to the encounter. I honestly don't know what opinion to take of this.
"Can we agree it's stupid, stop it, becuase it is, we know it, and it's untenable in a free society with any interest in art, openness, honesty or fairness. It will stifle everything with a blanket of fear and hatred."
I think "we" on the Right always agreed. The problem is the Left and the "reasonable conservatives". And they control the Media and the Culture and therefore ultimately politics.
I don't really believe most Blacks are offended by this.
The worst thing about outrage culture is that it really isn't about true outrage at all, but rather faux outrage in the cynical pursuit of power.
Mueller must be under intense pressure to reclaim the news cycle.
Quick! Someone alert CNN. We gotta a predawn raid to do, as soon as we pick a target.
Wash Post fact check: Democrats wear dark makeup, not blackface.
So my question, looking forward, is this:
When does porn become a career ender again? The new puritanism of the left would lead me to think that that time is coming very, very rapidly. If you have a Playboy, aren't you demeaning women? (Which to be frank, the answer is yes. Except gay porn, I suppose. I'll let Titus handle that one).
Feminists were all about porn not too long ago, but I think that's dead and gone. Pretty soon I think it will be off limits again, except for Muslims of course.

"You still don't get it. A plurality of the Democratic party *want* to stifle everything with a blanket of fear and hatred and they are in the driver's seat."
I don't think the majority of Americans are with that. We need to start ridiculing intolerance. Make the puritans the but of the jokes. Come on comedians - get some balls.
I'm curious that no one in the METOO movement is upset at the WaPo for protecting the Black Lt Gov. They had the charges but refused to print anything. Even though the woman has issued a notarized statement, hired a lawyer, and given names, dates, details, etc.
Unlike the California surfer girl, who couldn't even remember the year of the assault or where.
The outrage culture feeds on the hot button culture.
And, bye the bye, how is portraying a historical White person such as Alexander Hamilton as Black not blackface? The fact that a Black actor is playing Hamilton would enhance the insult if the races were reversed in the case of a Black historical personage.
Like all Progressives, Alinsky never dreamed his rules could be used against the Left.
Kavanaugh or Clarence Thomas

I think that one of the reasons that Trump resonates with deplorable people :-D is that Trump is Lalways who he really is.
People can detect a phony from miles away. Trump is Trump. Good, Bad, Warts and all. And he doesn't care. Take it or leave it.
This is a good thing.
It's pretty easy to resist blackface costumes and acts of forced sodomy, but hypocrisy is an easy sin to fall into. Especially when dealing with Dems and their preening moral stances.
I thought that Billy Crystal was great playing tribute to Sammy Davis Jr. in blackface.
I now realize that was deeply offensive and racist. I will never watch Billy Crystal again.
Exactly. Because Global Warming, no one will ever need to wear a baklava ever again.
That's good, because the nuts and honey get stuck in your ears.
Lest we forget, black holes, coal dust-face, and historical artifacts, too, are sufficient cause to be labeled a diversitist or even a National Socialist.
The modern one-stop reference for the Spanish Inquisition is Henry Kamen "The Spanish Inquisition: A Historical Revision"
The Inquisition is an essential part, of, at first, Protestant anti-Catholic propaganda, persistent long after the actual wars ended, and then of liberal, anticlerical propaganda. Between them we get that distinct thing labelled "la leyenda negra" by Spanish historiographers.
The Inquisition was in truth a remarkable exercise in institutional self-control and due process, especially for the time. Prosecutions could take a decade before judgements were imposed. There were appeals. There were no grand passionate slaughters, or railroading of witches, Jews or Catholic (Protestants) into overnight executions by the civil authorities. The simple comparative body counts in all cases should suffice to make the value of the Inquisition clear.
Come on comedians - get some balls.
They’re too busy feeding people into the fires of social justice.
i think wearing black face and calling people Nigger should be left to Black people.
I can't get that upset over a word - I can remember a book in our library called "Nigger" by Dick Gregory - or a silly Halloween costume. But if that's what it takes to get white people to stop saying Nigger or wearing blackface - maybe its OK.
BTW, I've never known a single person who wore "blackface". It never would've occurred to anyone This must be a Southern thing.

When do we get to ruin the lives of men who dress as women?"
There are no women.
Although there were some at SOTU. Specially dressed so you'd know what they were. But. There are no women. Because SOTU day doesn't count. Now therefore if you can contrive to commit your own culture-crime on a day that doesn't count, OK, good. Halloween used to be such a day. But what a trap that's turned out to be. And kindergarden, even sixth grade, were safe spaces. And comedy. And parties with alcohol. You thought. But no. Safe? No, no, no, no, no, no, no. THAT'S WHERE YOU TOLD THE TRUTH BECAUSE YOU THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE, YOU SCUMBAG. And so now we know who you are. You have self-confessed by the day you picked to wear a disguise that it was no disguise but your racist, KKK self. So nowhere is safe, like North Korea.
And there are no women except at SOTU, February 5, 2019 when Magical Don summoned them from out of hiding to sing awhile till Nasty Nan clapped her hands and they all flew back to scrubbing, scrubbing, scrubbing 400 years of dirty laundry which the theys [theys means "the women"] must scrub clean or Nasty Nan will never let them sing or meet a handsome prince ever again. Always Cinderella, never the ball - the plight of women in the reign of San Fran Nan.
Or that's what would be the narrative, except there are no women.

The idea that normality is when normal people act normal, is an error.
Civil strife is never created by a majority, but by minorities, often very small ones. Empires have risen and fallen, with great slaughter, while life in most villages went on as always.
Harris will get a pass thru the primaries. Trump will win the election unless the economy tanks. Harris has all the political skills of hillary and has never run a seriously contested race.
The only reason the Time Machine Costume Outrage Fascists want Northam gone is because they want that weapon securely in place to bomb their enemies. (and because they were all in for him and if they stay all in for him, they are tainted! forever!)
#Bagoh for president.
The Virginia Triumvirate this week are just a weapon to bludgeon The Senators.
They are scrambling on Fairfax.
I want The Senators to say Blackface is worse than sexual assault. Or that one accuser’s “credible allegations” are not enough to drive a Black Democrat Man from society but are enough to trash a White Republican Man.
It would be awesome to see the late night comedians talk about the Films shown at the fundraiser for Lt. Gov Fairfax's legal defense fund:
The Jazz Singer.
Black Like Me.
Soul Man.
Howard: "Drago tries to prove that a party divided against inself can indeed stand!"
You are being a bit tongue and cheek and snarky.
But you are not far off.
It's the "itself" part that is at issue.
What has been exposed is that the NeverTrumpers never really were conservatives. It has all been a game.
Dems win and dems get their policy preferences.
Republicans win and we get....Failure Theatre.
The NeverTrumpers were never republicans. They were rent-seekers and court jesters dancing at the self-anointed's commands. They simply wanted a seat at the table and they didn't care who's boot that kicks them they had to lick.
Trump has exposed all of that. The charade is over. The clear policy, tactics and full narrative alignment between the NeverTrumpers/LLR's/Dems/Left has been laid bare.
And that little humpty dumpty can never be put back again.
Which is why the NeverTrumpers are fighting so hard to elect democrats across the board: in the feeble hope that once the dems are back in power and the Leftist Project to Transform America Into Something Hellish is back on track, that the left will "forgive" these li'l NeverTrumpers/LLR's for some minor past transgressions (like identifying as republicans), pat them on the head, and toss them some scraps.
As a further footnote to buwaya's comment above, I should like to take note of the fact that when Napoleon invaded Spain he abolished the Spanish Inquisition. Well and good. What could be worse than the Spanish Inquisition? Occupaion of your country by French forces for one thing. Napoleon's armies were the original social justice warriors. They confiscated the crops, raped the women, and devised inventive forms of torture to inflict on the partisans or men who looked like partisans. Over several centuries, the Spanish Inquisition killed about five thousand people. That was a slow afternoon for Napoleon.....Here's an interesting statistic I recently read: Napoleon during the course of his wars caused 30% of the male population of France to become killed or crippled.
Where can I get tickets to The Virginia Monologues?

I used to have a very visceral reaction against Lewis because I assosiated his work with a person I didn’t like. But lately I’ve read certain quotes and things the piqued my interest. So I want to give his work a shot, and your recomendation sounds like a good place to start.
If they were Republican, they would be forced out.
How, if Northam was a Republican, could he be forced out?
That's where the real Northam frustration comes from on the left. You can't force him out. You have to convince him to resign.
Why I tend to believe Tyson:
1: There was no point in her going to the police in 2004. She had no meaningful proof, and at the Boston 2004 DNC there were probably 1000 incidents of two people meeting at the DNC and engaging in oral sex, or more, with each other
2: Fairfax claims that he and Tyson continued to interact for a while, but he didn't want more, so she went off in a huff,
Tyson claims she never talked to him again.
At least one of them is lying. If Fairfax can provide evidence they socially communicated later, then he's clear. If he can't he's guilty. But at least Tyson is claiming she acted reasonably.
Here's why the Democrats are screwed:
1: The entire VA General Assembly is up for election in November of this year.
2: They have two white racists and one black rapist. If they nail the rapist and let the racists slide, they're going to have great difficulty getting black voters to show up for them in November. So either all three go, or all three stay.
3: If all three stay, they are going to have a HORRID time trying to recruit candidates for the November elections. Because anyone who runs on the D ticket is going to have to answer "what should we do about Northam, Fairfax, and Herring?" Since there's no "good" answer (for a Democrat) to that question, they're going to have a hard time finding people willing to walk that gauntlet.
4: Come September, when voters are paying attention, the GOP House (Assembly) and Senate can move forward on impeaching all three. So the Democrats will NOT be able to duck the issue.
Yes, however is Governor when all this is done will be able to veto any redistricting measures that hurt the Dems, so the Dems don't want to give up the seat. But they're still better off dumping all three (with a quiet promise to each "resign or be prosecuted (impeached)"), and trying to win one of the houses in the Nov elections, than they are letting the three hold on.
Greg P: "Here's why the Democrats are screwed:"
I disagree.
Did Castro ever worry about the vote totals in Cuba?
We've got "ballot harvesting" now with the dems controlling all the major enforcement offices in VA.
The left is never going to let VA go back to even "reddish".
Just wait until 2020 when we see 17,948% turnout in Milwaukee, Detroit and Philadelphia precincts with the vote totals going for the dems at just about 100%.
Sally327: “I think this was a thing for Southern White Boys, especially ones in college, the so-called elites, the upper middle class types. To demean and ridicule. And ....”

I think this is correct.
I would add, we need to stop using only THEIR definitions of "racism." Their definition is rigged to help one party - Dems, whose base will tell you that only white citizens (Republicans, largely) can be racist. This is a claim most Americans, of all colors, do not agree with.
The party of Al Sharpton and Louis Farrakhan has a problem with race.
@Paul Z,
"They've cut down every forest in England to get at the Devil. And now the winds are starting to blow."
Thread winner, well done.
If you think about it, the conservatives are following the classic tit-for-tat strategy. It's a two sided equation (let-let-our-guys-go and your-guys-are-toast), both aspects are linked.
As long as the democrats do it to republicans and don't do it to democrats, republicans won't do it to Trump and will do it to democrats. The democrats started this long ago with the Hitler, Bush lied-people died nonsense while republicans went along with a forgive and forget approach. Ted Kennedy driving skills, and Bill Clinton's dropped pants finally pushed the republican to play the let-let-our-guys-go democratic half of the equation with Donald Trump. The Kavanaugh debacle finished any tolerance the right had for the "you're condemned, we've forgiven" model played by the democrats.
If the democrats want to escape from the tit-for-tat game, they have to start consistently condemning their sinners and allow a couple of republicans to go free. Until then, there is no incentive for the republicans to drop the retaliation approach.
I'm hoping Senator Warren wins the Dem nomination and taps Governor Northam as her running mate.
Get it?
What does one think WaPo or any of the Democratic candidates would have written or said about Northam if Fairfax were a Republican Lt. Governor? Does anyone really believe that they wouldn't have excused Northam's problems and encouraged him to remain governor, and then called for Fairfax to resign? With the Democrats, hypocrisy seems to be a requirement of office.

One thing that has always puzzled me about the American Left is why they don't seem to understand that precedents are a double edged sword. This is especially baffling when you think about how many of them have been to law school.
Yeah, the went to "law school" where they "learned" that the US Constitution was a "Living Document", which roughly translates as "there are no precedents. There's simply 'we get our way'".
So, yes, they really are shocked, not just "shocked, shocked!" to see something treated as an actual rule to which they must abide
