"Federal prosecutors,... broke the law when they concealed a plea agreement from more than 30 underage victims who had been sexually abused by wealthy New York hedge fund manager Jeffrey Epstein..."

"... a federal judge ruled Thursday," The Miami Herald Reports:
“The government aligned themselves with Epstein, working against his victims, for 11 years,’’ [said Brad Edwards, who represents Courtney Wild — Jane Doe No. 1 in the case]. “Yes, this is a huge victory, but to make his victims suffer for 11 years, this should not have happened. Instead of admitting what they did, and doing the right thing, they spent 11 years fighting these girls.’’
[Judge Kenneth A.] Marra, in a 33-page opinion, said prosecutors not only violated the Crime Victims’ Rights Act by not informing the victims, they also misled the girls into believing that the FBI’s sex trafficking case against Epstein was still ongoing — when in fact, prosecutors had secretly closed it after sealing the plea bargain from the public record.
You can read the judge's opinion at the link. He states as a fact that Epstein "sexually abused more than 30 minor girls" and "directed other persons to abuse the girls sexually."

It's a love of victims story. Where clicks come from ought to be part of every story. "This story is tailored to appeal to ..." Truth in news biz standards would clean up a lot of the soap opera women problems with public debate.

It goes without saying that Acosta and everyone else involved in this case should be fired, disbarred and subjected to every criminal and civil action possible.

And yet another Democrat big shot (Epstein and by extension Menendez) gets a special deal while Republicans go broke defending themselves, are denied bail, and feel the full fury of the DOJ for crimes real and imagined.

As to your first point, that's just crazy talk! What would become of the world if government officials were prosecuted and (horror!) suffered consequences when they break the law? Chaos, my friend, chaos! Oh no, we can't have that! /s

As to your second point, the word Democrat never appeared in the article. Nor did the nickname for his private jet, the Lolita Express, or that Bill Clinton was a frequent passenger on that jet.

tim in vermont said...

Acosta should resign as labor secretary or be fired. That being said, and I do believe it and I believe Epstein should go to prison, this likely never would have come up if Acosta wasn’t associated with Trump. This stayed buried all through the Obama years. Of course everybody on the inside knew about it and did nothing, but when he became associated with Trump.... Not to mention that ever since losing the election, the Clintons have been in bad odor so Epstein’s last line of defense fell.

“What do you suppose will happen to those prosecutors who broke the law?”

It’s bad enough that cops can lie to entrap suspects, but it is supposed to be unethical for attorneys to do so, or actually anyone working for them (which is why I was bothered by the Blue Bloods episode last week where ADA Erin Reagan’s investigator was showing Jamie Reagan’s fiancé how to get information from suspects by lying to and misleading them). But facetiously, prosecutors who break the law get promoted and ultimately hired by independent counsel investigations like Mueller’s.

Little OT, but did anyone else notice that McCabe, Strzok, etc lied and intentionally misled Gen Flynn in order to catch him in a perjury trap they had set for him? They essentially lied to him to catch him in misstatements. That seems so wrong to me. It is the height of hypocrisy, that they can lie to catch someone in a lie. Normally, we ignore this hypocrisy and double standard because the lying is done for mostly honorable reasons. But here, it was done in order to destroy the Presidency of the man to whom the people lying to Flynn owed their loyalty to, as well as their power to investigate crimes in the first place.

I think JAORE knows that, and is simply pointing out that because over the years Trump has seen Epstein at a number of large public gatherings and made his comment its neither controversial or horrifying.

I think that, first of all, Trump needs a new Secretary of Labor The best spin that Acosta can put on this sorry episode is that he was only following orders from higher-ups. But f he can’t or won’t name those higher ups then he’s hanging in the breeze.

Second is that I would like to know what it is with child rapists that the Brits (Rotherham) and here in the United States can be ignored for years and, at least initially, let off with wrist slaps? In England the social class of the victims (meaning working class and lower middle class) was deemed to play a role. Us that what’s happening here? Also Epstein contributes large sums of money to prominent Democrats — obviously it gave him a degree of immunity from prosecution, but should it?

And, third, Cookie is quite right about the FBI. It’s hard to remember that once upon a long time ago da young and then idealistic J. Edgar Hoover was initially brought into the FBI’s predecessor organization to clean up a thoroughly corrupt agency. If I were Trump I would put cleaning up the FBI on my to do list (not that Mueller, Comey, and McCabe have’t put it there already).

I want very much to say this; not for my benefit but for Althouse's. When I have complimented and/or congratulated Althouse for blogging brilliance and excellence, it has been and always will be 100% genuine. I have never falsely praised her and I never will. I am completely confident that she will provide plenty of opportunities in the future to do more of it. She's an exceptional blogger. And writer. And legal scholar.

AND; when I think Althouse gets it wrong, I say so. Directly, without any personal aspersions. Althouse got at least a couple of things wrong in the Zion Williamson/Nike blog post and her associated comments. I said so. I said it clearly, and provided the basis for my comments. She thought that Nike shoe contracts with the big college powers were "secret". They aren't. It might be that Duke and Notre Dame and some others, as private schools, aren't subject to FOIA. But I gave her the link to the public, online .pdf of the Wisconsin Badgers' equipment/apparel contract with UnderArmour (new in 2016). The big shoe deals in college basketball are hardly "secret," and nobody told Zion which model of the hundreds of Nike basketball shoe models to wear.

So yes; I congratulate Althouse when her blog posts are particularly valuable and interesting to me, and I try to correct her and/or challenge her when I think she's been mistaken.

And you can't find a single example of my writing that would contradict this.

And to JAORE: You were right. It is horrifying. Keep trusting your gut.

One thing that hasn't been widely covered, if at all covered, in the MSM is that child porn arrests and prosecutions have gone way up since almost the day Trump was inaugurated. My former doctor is now sitting in jail for what will likely be the rest of his life on a child porn charge. A former Scout leader I know is awaiting sentencing. Networks are being rolled up. Unanswered question- how much information was gleaned from Weiner's computer?

If you peruse a site called crazydaysandnights.net there are constant references to underage sex amongst the Hollywood elite. And more frequently now, people are being called to account for it. The Hollywood elite mix with the uniparty elite.

Molesters find each other and aid each other. How? I don't know. But I also don't know how gamblers find bookies- but they do. Or how druggies find dealers- but they do. If you're not involved with any of this stuff, you have no idea, but if you are, you know how to find others.

We know there's smuggling along the southern border. Sex trafficking and drugs- and other stuff. (Freon is sometimes mentioned....) But yet, despite the vast majority of Americans wanting a barrier put up- Washington insiders resist. Why? Are they getting something out of the illegal traffic? Or are they threatened with exposure?

Looking at their uniform support for Roman Polanski, despite the fact that he admitted to drugging and sdomizingva 13 year old girl, despite her verbal protests, I find this easy to believe.

Hollywood and DC are filled with Scum.

Take down their enablers. The scumbag lawyers and political appointees are no better than they are.

This was The Mueller-led FBI and the Mukasey-led DOJ under President George W. Bush.

Remember, Meryl Streep herself called Harvey Weinstein "sort of a God" (hey, just like other lefties/LLR's called Obama!).

Remember all of Hollywood rose as one to give a sustained, multi-minute standing ovation to Roman Polanski. They praised him. They lauded him.

Remember, as Big Mike points out, Fun-Guy Roman drugged and orally and anally sodomizing a 13 year old girl.

That's all.

No biggee.

That 13 year old girls name was not "Heather Heyer", so she too does not count. Just another body on the path to the lefties/LLR's Brave New World.

Trans-social, but societal norms are historically progressive liberal (i.e. monotonically divergent).

Its quite clear, as of a few years ago, that there is indeed an institutionalization of homosexuality and homosexual abuse in the Catholic Church. Entire American seminaries at some points kicked out every student who WASN'T homosexual, as it would have compromised the "club", and in this these institutions were aided and protected by Bishops, Archbishops and Cardinals.

This is besides the coverups and reassignments and even the deliberate turning of blind eyes, as the current Pope has done.

And the extreme hypocrisy of the reaction when the institutional rot is mentioned.

IIRC, 60 Minutes even had an episode regarding this very situation. There was a young seminarian who was welcomed with gay porn greeting cards. Do you remember this? The whole place was all about gay sex.

Yeah, Epstein recruited her at a Trump resort. There is zero evidence that Trump had anything to do with it, but KEEP HOPE ALIVE!

There is a book explaining this and how it occurred. It is titled, " Goodbye Good Men" and was written in 2002. Many clergy have agreed it is accurate.

Not sure why people defend the Catholic Church. Countries where they are the dominant cultural force are dominated poverty and socialism/despotism.

It is a thoroughly corrupt institution.
