MSLSD had a video clip of Hildabeast this morning. She recalled how she fully supported the Big O when he defeated her for the nomination, but Bernie did not do likewise when she cheated ...... er ..... beat him in her run.

Should be fun watching the rest of the Dem field try to get to the left of Bernie.

Both of my kids, 23ish and 27ish were caught up in Bernie fever - the younger much more enthusiastically. After the capitulation by the Bern to Hillary's and the DNC's shenanigans, they have both said no way that they would support him if he ran again. I wonder how many others feel the same?

My older one has actually inched a toe into the Trump camp. He makes her roll her eyes on many occasions, but she recognizes what he is trying to accomplish and sees much more clearly the crazy in the other camp.

Karen of Texas said...

@Humperdink

Hillary said Bernie didn't support her? I seem to recall - but my brain may be in a blender; sometimes it's jello - that he did tell his supporters to support Hillary. And they got a bit pissy with him.

So I guess the white men are not going to stand down.

White people are still more than 75% of the US population, and men are about half of that...so no 35% to 40% of the population is not just going to lie down and roll over. The Left has launched an all out attack on White men lately, and I think it's a huge mistake. You keep calling White men fascist, racist rapists and eventually a bunch of them will become exactly that.

Most one time losers know enough to accept the message of their defeat and ride off into the sunset, retiring to their comfy spot in Congress or retirement. Not our Bernie.

What this race needs is a couple of independents, a rerun by Hillary, a run from Biden, and a primary challenge for Trump from Romney, Weld, or Kasich.

A rat emblazoned popcorn machine will come in quite handy.

To retiterate points already made: of course, greedy thief Sanders is going to keep running for president. He and his despicable spouse spent 40 years sponging off one of the poorest states in the nation just for a lifestyle that was middle class compared to DC politicians. But just one presidential cycle and spittle-flecked angry asshole Bernie Sanders is suddenly a star! People are throwing money at him- he's a millionaire now! Another house, a Lakeshore mansion- Yes please! And that's not all- that little matter of your wife embezzling millions from the bankrupted university? Your friends in the democrat party will make that go away. Yes we can! Yes we can!

Why should we? If you can beat us, then beat us. If you can't beat us, then don't whine about how we should stand down because it's "your turn."

Big Mike said...

So, anyway, a guy who joined a commune and then was thrown out for not doing his share of the work (per the book We Are As Gods -- be sure to use the Althouse Amazon portal to order it) is today a leading candidate from the Democrat Party (of which he is not a member) for President of the United States.

Says something about that party.

Big Mike said...

And that's not all- that little matter of your wife embezzling millions from the bankrupted university?

@Michael Fitzgerald, point of information. Sanders' wife didn't bankrupt her university by embezzling funds. She overextended the institution, leading to its bankruptcy, and part of the fallout was the discovery that she committed a felony by deliberately overstating the value of assets pledged as collateral for the loans she took out in the name of the university to accomplish its (over)expansion. Also, IIRC, she pledged assets as collateral that were not the university's assets to pledge.

Run, Bernie, Run!

This makes me very happy. Here's why.

Roughly speaking, there are 3 factions to the Dem Party. The hard left faction is composed of wackos, socialists, militants, Antifa, college professors, protestors, activists. Think of Ocasio-Cortes.

The middle faction is mostly nice sweet, clueless, but comfortable white people living across the land. Think of my Mother in Law, who still pines for JFK.

Then, there's the money-ed faction. These are limousine liberals, who live in Manhattan, Beverly Hills, and Pacific Heights in San Francisco. They spout the leftwing rhetoric, and pay most of the campaign bills, but, if you come after THEIR money, well, they get nervous.

Bernie is wacko enough to actually come after the limousine liberal money. A wealth tax, a capital gains tax, something of that sort.

These folks don't identify with Bernie at all -- save for a few really, really rich, clueless Hollywood types, who are mostly uninfluential.

The moneyed-faction has very little loyalty. They will sit it out or run from Bernie in droves. But Bernie will totally nail the aging Hippie vote!

Run, Bernie, Run!

Yancey Ward said...

The media and the big donors will try to drive out all the female candidates not named Kamala Harris, and will try to keep in the race all the white males. That is how the Democratic elite will choose the candidate- they will divide all the non-Harris voters among the maximum number of candidates.

Yancey Ward said...

To give an example of how this works- just look at the 2008 Democratic primary. The media had in their hands the material to end John Edwards' candidacy long before the Iowa Caucuses, but chose to sit on the information because Edwards and Clinton were dividing the same kinds of primary voters. In other words, the media and the donors had chosen Obama right from the start. Had Edwards not been present in Iowa, Clinton easily wins that caucus and wins New Hampshire far more decisively than she did. Obama winning Iowa and holding close in NH is what gave him the momentum necessary to win the nomination.

The media will work to do the same for Harris.

Bay Area Guy said...

@Yancey Ward,

The media and the big donors will try to drive out all the female candidates not named Kamala Harris, and will try to keep in the race all the white males.

Hmm. This means we must cease and desist from all negative comment directed towards Senator Pocahontas from the great Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

This is a tall task.

Yancey Ward said...

BAG,

Who recently has been giving Warren the hardest time? It is the Left-leaning media- that's who. I suspect Warren will get a lot of negative press, and the same goes for Klobuchar. People like Gillibrand will probably just not get any coverage at all.

Another candidate that will get reamed by the media will be Booker- they won't want to have Harris competing with Booker for black voters in South Carolina, or anywhere else.

On the flip side, though, you are likely to get a lot of good, positive coverage of Sanders, Biden, Beta, Bloomberg (if he runs), and Sherrod Brown.

Tomcc said...

One million people- sounds a lot like Dr. Evil's "one MILLION dollars" to me. That's maybe .3% of the population. Not exactly a groundswell, but then I'm not a successful politician, so what do I know?

Bay Area Guy said...

@YH,

It's gonna take some serious re-wiring of our deplorable, sexist minds, but we're gonna have to lay off Senator Paleface, er, Senator Warren, and start trumpeting Sens. Klobuchar (tough spelling and pronunciation) and Gillibrand.

I already kinda sorta like Tulsi Gabbard, or, more precisely, find her to be the least confused of the female Democrat candidates, so I think I will start by supporting her.

Change is hard. But, as you rightly point out, it is our duty.

Ralph L said...

Harris can pass, and her father was Jamaican. She can't assume she has the black (esp. female) vote locked up in the primaries. Not after their half-Kenyan letdown.

Bay Area Guy discloses: I already kinda sorta like Tulsi Gabbard, or, more precisely, find her to be the least confused of the female Democrat candidates, so I think I will start by supporting her.

I like Tulsi, too, though I don't agree with all her policies. She has a lot of sense for a Dem. But I was hoping she would wait until 2024. There's no way I would vote against Trump in 2020.

Francisco D said...

Bernie was attractive in 2016 only in comparison to the unspeakable Hillary. He had the not-Hillary space all to himself. Not so this time.

There is a likable quality to Bernie, despite his politics. Tulsi Gabbard has that same effect on me. They both seem genuine. I would never vote for either of them, but I would enjoy sitting down and talking to them.

Bay Area Guy said...

@Mockturtle,

To clarify, I'm talking about support in the primary. I figger Trump won't have a serious primary challenge, so we can cross over to vote for one of Kamala's opponents in the Dem primary.

I'm in for Trump in 2020, too.

mockturtle said...

We can't cross over in primaries here in AZ. In WA we used to be able to until someone caught on to the Dems'scheme, when either Jesse Jackson or Pat Robertson 'won' the GOP primary one year.

As Trump says, Bernie is yesterdays news. His time has past.

First, we got lots of young, women and people of color who have the same policy views. We don't need some Jewish guy from white-bread Vermont.

Second, He's 77 y/o. He'd be 79 in Jan 2021. That's just plain crazy! We don't need 80 something year-olds as president or (I'm looking at you - Breyer and Ginsburg) as SCOTUS judges. Old people need to understand that you need to get off the stage and give the young (under 80) a chance.

rcocean said...

Its hilarious that Boomers who didn't trust anyone under 30 -when they were young -are now desperately trying to hold onto power and the media spotlight in their 70s.

I'm rooting for Cory Booker. He's got "crazy eyes" - and since the Democrats have gone crazy - he's a good fit.
