Meade at Starbucks: "I just want to say that I support your boss, Howard Schultz. Because I hate the Democrats, and I hate the Republicans, so go Howard."

Barista (leaning in, smiling, a little bit conspiratorially): "I agree."

Everyone's gone meta. It's kind of like pool in the 80s, where everyone decided that every cueball had to have some kind of weird spin, no matter how straight the path to the pocket.

Meade is sort of like Thoreau, who called himself “Inspector of Snowstorms.” Walking in and after snowstorms is a lot of fun.

Schultz can look to be latest victim of abuses of the Patriot Act. It’s not like Trump controls those guys, they are more like the Pakistani Secret Police, a branch of government unto themselves.

And the Barista probably hated Howard Schultz. I'm about to persuade my wife to buy a burr mill coffee grinder--and get our coffee beans on line. It's my version of "sticking it to the man". We'll no longer be tied to Starbucks Italian roast ground at the store.

Pasquini here in Los Angeles does a very nice dark roast--better coffee, no Starbucks.
But first you have to get the wife to agree to more kitchen clutter.

walter said...

Bold would be you saying that with your Trump dove shirt.
Schultz will divide tax rates according to the store cup names.
From Demi to Trente..with sprinkled social points accumulating on punch cards or app that can be redeemed for deductions.

Funny coming from Meade, not quite so funny when Althouse makes it part of her rationalizations come the next election.

The wife drinks Starbucks Veranda Blend religiously but I have never liked their coffee much, not any of the varieties. Right now my coffee is Kirkland Signature Medium Roast, 40 oz bag for $11.99 at Costco. Better than anything Starbucks's produces. Also shows how over-priced the Starbucks brand is.

Howard wouldn't get my vote but he would be preferable to any of the occupants of the Democrat Presidential Clown Car. I would agree he would split the D vote and get Trump re-elected, I think Trump has a base that will stick with him.

Once you do, you'll never go back. The best thing you can do for your morning coffee is to grind the beans right before you brew them.

You'll even find much better beans out there through independent roasters than Starbucks Italian Roast.

Skeptical Voter: Been there, done that, with Peet's coffees, and have really enjoyed my morning cup ever since. Turns out, its only the caffeine that's addicting, not the Barista attitude. (I hated it most when he/she condescendingly approved my choice.)

I hate the taste of Starbucks coffee (over-roasted). If Starbucks tasted like instant coffee then that taste would be expensive. I like coffee, and I have trained myself to like instant and hate Starbucks. I save a ton of money, and more importantly, time. It's all in your head. "Feed your head", but train it to serve you. Don't let it boss you around.

bagoh20 said...

I dare you to go in a Starbucks and order a coffee with a MAGA hat on. That is just asking for a tainted drink.

No men's room. $5 for a coffee. (No wonder Howard's a gillionaire!)

Of course the young barista is going to agree with the weird old guy. The boss sees all and knows all. Her agreement was coerced. COERCED, I say.

"Because I hate the Democrats, and I hate the Republicans, so go Howard."

Well, the problem with that idea is that the only way they can both lose is if Howard wins. Which ain't going to happen. Bu I'm pretty sure that the kind of idiots who want Howard for President were never going to vote for Trump. So, Go Howard!

It's kind of funny, watching all these wealthy shit-worms crawl out of the woodwork. They all think that if Trump could do it, so can they. Dream on, maggots.

I was watching the Weather Channel some years ago and they were reporting from Milwaukee on an early season snow storm. The on-site weather "talent" wondered aloud how the locals were going to get around between 'now and when the snow melts in the spring.'

Just think, we actually pay the city for that big heavy gift at the end of our driveways.

Americanos were never great. How to get dishwater out of an espresso machine.

In New Hampshire, a state with no sales tax and no income tax, except on investment income, they clear the snow almost as fast as it falls, or did when I lived there. Vermont? With an income tax rate that goes up to ten percent, sales taxes, special property taxes for certain affluent towns, etc? They don’t have a “bare roads policy” So basically, because the road in front of my home didn’t get sun, its ice until we got a thaw.

I remember the first snowy day of the “no bare roads policy” and there were fender benders everywhere, I saw two or three ambulances on my way to work. People adjusted eventually. But the first day was a real hoot. Kiind of like the Brit joke about the Irish changing the driving on the left rule in steps, first the cars, next day the trucks.

Trump isn't a Republican. He just ran as one. So Schultz runs, Dems lose, Trump is reelected, Repubs are still not happy.

Meade, and Trump, win.

Meade said...

"Meade, and Trump, win."

Exactly. And I don't know about the rest of you but I know I'm still not tired of all the winning.

Meade said...

I did and I do. And I'm willing to give Howard Schultz about 22 months to, you know, evolve.

I heard Howard at the Chicago Economic Club several years ago. As he described his fascination with European coffee houses he discovered on his first trip out of the US as a young man, I turned to the guy next to me and said, “Howard hasn’t been to many of his stores recently.”

He hated it when customers tried to talk politics with baristas, but loved it when Howard told baristas to talk to customers about race.

In my local Starbucks no one talked about race. No one talks about the patriarchy either. And the toilets are blocked off.

"When I was young I worked as a barista. I hated it when assholes like Meade would try to talk politics at me. It was almost always old men like Meade who would pull that dick move. I wouldn’t go into your office/place of work and keep you from doing your job with such nonsense. But assholes gotta asshole."

And yet this blog is my "office/place" and you come in here and pull dick moves regularly.

By the way, I sat at the bar and it was the barista who first engaged me in conversation, not the other way around.
